I'm Portuguese and trust me I've had good Portuguese food but this food was the best thing I've ever tasted. The meal I got was Portuguese steak , rice ,and fries. The steak was cooked perfect and very juicy. The fries were soaked in the garlicky sauce and it tasted amazing. The rice was also covered with the sauce and tasted perfect. My husband and I attempted to go here last evening, were told for a party of 2 it would be a 20-25 minute wait, we waited for an hour and were skipped over. The owner asked if she could bring us out drinks and never came back to get our drink order. I understand that some family owned restaurants have favorite regulars and give preferential treatment to certain guests. And I also understand that on busy nights (especially when World Cup futbol is on) things can get overlooked and forgotten. But this was a very disappointing experience and we will go to other Portuguese restaurants in the future. A must-try Portugese restaurant in Rhode Island. The restaurant space feels cozy and casual, staff are friendly, and the food is phenomenal. When dining in I'd highly recommend trying the steamed littlenecks--once you finish the clams, keep the sauce for dipping the complementary bread in! Bife A Case is my family's go-to entree, always ordered medium rare and with round potato fries. I'm sure you can't go wrong with any other entrees, but the opportunity cost is too high for me to try them--we eat here about once a month, and the order's always 4x Bife A Casa plus a couple apps. There's no bar seating, but they do serve alcohol including a number of red and white wines, and a few specialty cocktails. read more

3.8 for me. Highly recommend reservations as it is a smaller venue and popular. I called days ahead to verify that there would be Fado music as advertised. This was confirmed so I booked a 630 table as music was to start around that time. Parking is extremely restricted so prepare to park on the street for free. Looks like you can unload your party in the front. Complimentary Portuguese bread to start. We had the little necks with tomato and onion (Amêijoas à Espanhola). This was shareable for our party of 4 and delicious. We saved the broth as it was so good. They will even pack it to go. We had the bacalhau (cod) surprisingly came with bones which can dangerous to ensure you don't accidentally swallow a bone. Came with potatoes and was very good. The grilled chicken Peito de Galinha was good as well but chicken was not as tender as expected. My husband enjoyed the steak Bife à Casa. They will bring out the desserts and explain them. The rice pudding was tasty. This restaurant is a 4/5 for noise level, which was off putting to me. Music finally started at 8 PM and we only stayed for 2 songs, which were not Fado at all. I felt like I was listening to a cruise ship singer who sang one Italian song and an Elvis Presley song. This was a huge disappointment because we specifically came for the music. Called to order takeout, they can't even hear you when you are ordering you are screaming at each other because of the music -need a better system for sure. I asked for round Portuguese fries AND rice. Only got the round fries rice missing. Steak is dry there is barely any sauce and then when I call back someone answers blaring music can't hear a thing yelling at me hello?? And then just click hangs up in my ear so I had to call back once again still can't hear barely anything. She asks me for my name and looks at the orders and reads it back saying it says round fries only. not what I ordered. Not my fault she didn't hear me when she took the order to begin with and got it incorrect. Told me she could have the rice ready for me in a minute, well I didn't open my food in the parking lot I just expected it to be right. I drove home to open the meal to eat and found there was no rice. I also wanted to order dessert when I placed the order but she again couldn't hear anything I was saying so she just rambled off what they had and I had to tell her to just forget it and I would take care of it when I got there. Food: we ordered the sautéed shrimp (camarão), Pastéis de Bacalhau and shrimp rissois appetizers and I ordered the Bitoque plate. Everything was so delicious but that Shrimp appetizer was 10/10. We used the bread to eat all of the sauce that came with the shrimp. It was that good! Service: waitress was quick and always made sure our water glasses were full. We didn't have a reservation but were seated fairly quick. We got to the restaurant early. It looks like we might have had a wait if we came later in the day. Ambiance: soccer on the tv, laughs and loud conversations all around us. I felt like I was at home. I really enjoyed the ambiance and being able to peak at what was happening during the soccer games. Everyone chatted with everyone (even though we didn't know anyone). Overall I would highly recommend this place. As soon as we entered we were treated like family and the food was delicious. I have been eating at O Dinis for over twenty years, and having lived in NYC for the last thirteen, it's a must whenever I'm back home. Just had an amazing birthday dinner for a friend with eight people total. Natalia, Danny, Miguel, and the young lady who served us were all incredible and welcoming. Always try the specials; we had fried smelts which were perfect, as well as a delicious pork shank and seafood stew. Beyond that, the steak a casa, alentejana, galinha, and shellfish are always great, as is the wine and dessert. I almost don't want to write this review for fear that I won't be able to get a table next time! An all-time favorite. read more

Loved it. Authentic family-run Portuguese restaurant. Appetizers we tried - all good: huge grilled chorizo, whole calamari, gambas (shrimp) in garlic sauce. I had the Gambas (shrimp) entree. My friends wife had the salted cod. She's a Rhode Islander and said it was good. My friend had the pork with the steamers and he said it was terrific. See the pictures. I thought it was a bit strange that they give you shoelace french fries and rice. Both were good but I just don't want double carbs. Not complaining. I really liked the rice. Arguably the best part of the experience was the wait staff. This is a traditional family/ neighborhood place. The waitresses recognized my friend and were giving us hugs (he's a doctor and we aren't kids so of course we loved the attention). Stopped here on the way to Massachusetts. Hungry from being on the road for a couple hours, we enjoyed the delicious clams and sopped up the juices with bread. We asked for recommendations from the waitress, who noted everything on the menu was good. My husband and I got the marinated pork chops and chicken. I was not as impressed as I was with the clams. The plates weren't bad, they just weren't "wow." The restaurant is also very loud and cramped. There seemed to be a lot of Portuguese folks there, so I would imagine the food is authentic. My wife and I were visiting Providence on vacation and were told we should seek out Portuguese food. I had never had it, and my wife had spent time in Macau and Portugal, so we were excited. I finally got to go here for lunch. The place does an incredible business, and I couldn't get in the last time. After reading the last Yelp review, I was worried about what to expect, but luckily, it was as far from the truth as you can get. They're probably a disgruntled ex employee. So one of the only drawbacks is no private lot. You can park on a side street, though. We entered the restaurant and were promptly greeted by our soon to be server. She was courteous and attentive. The waitress told us about the specials and then we ordered our drinks... Portuguese beer. While waiting to place the orders, I observed the dining room a little. It's comfortable enough, clean and tidy, tables for two a tad too small. I ordered the Portuguese kale soup, which was good, but the broth seemed to be made from seafood stock and tomato, which is different than I'm used to. My main entree was grilled chicken with garlic butter sauce, Portuguese potatoes, and rice. There was also fresh bread and an olive oil dip. Visited O'dinis on a Friday night 11/8/25. Me and my spouse were approached by the host who asked us to add our name to the white board which only had 2 names before ours. Waiting by the door with "no place to sit" except outside on the cold stone seats with the weather being 45 degrees we choose to wait indoors. *** Noting that there were 2 "unoccupied tables " in the back, I questioned why we could not sit there. Now, in walks a couple from outside who proceeds to an empty table for 4 close by and I asked for the manager who was the owner (Natalia was her name). Yes, the couple was there before us however; I asked the manager why we were not seated early at one of the EMPTY 2 available tables which seats 6. I have been to other restaurant who seat you as "first come first served" ...... NOT O'DINIS (lousy customer service) She said " we save those tables for larger parties who MIGHT walk in". We stopped by around 2pm on Sunday. We were seated relatively quickly. The restaurant was packed, and servers were scrambling. Tables in the restaurant are tight, very close by one another. It seemed like the older woman ran most of the restaurant, telling the younger servers to refill our waters and grab take out bags for us. She took the orders and brought out the hand written checks, manning the register. The others did everything else. Of course the restaurant is packed, it's almost like 1 person running the store so everything is so slow. It took a long time for the food to come out, to get our check, and also a VERY long time to get a second bag for our take out boxes - where I had to ask a second waiter. Only the guy with the glasses was attentive to us the entire time. Thank you! We ended up ordering the Peito de Galinha Grelhado com Camarao & Carne de Porco Alentejana. Portion size is big. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like family. Our waitress was incredible--handling our large group with ease and enthusiasm. Most of us had never tried Portuguese cuisine before, so we entrusted her with our meal choices, and she did not disappoint. Every dish was phenomenal, and the wine selection was just as impressive. They brought out different bottles and multiple glasses so we could sample a variety, making the experience even more special. My wife and I are big foodies--we've dined at James Beard Award-winning and Michelin-starred restaurants--but this was hands-down our favorite group dining experience. The rabbit had an interesting but good flavor, a flavor I've never tasted before. Today we went at 2:30 for a late lunch and was sat right away. It started getting busy but the time we were leaving but we still had good/quick service. The sauces are extremely salty, barely edible. That's how salty they are. Better off just ordering a sandwich or without the sauce. The restaurant is extremely loud. The seats are flat and hard and not comfortable. The service is great! And despite the problems I still like this place and enjoy coming here with my family. Impressive. What a discovery for me. I am so glad to have been let in on this Portuguese dining treasure. If you come here expecting high brow dining, you are out of place. If you come here expecting authentic and delicious food and dessert, then you are in for a treat. Food, price, service--triple winner. Parking is a challenge but come early enough or after 6PM and park in one of the closed businesses at this time, facing the main street. The first sign I knew it was going to be good is having a tough time deciding which dish to order. Appetizer was Amêijoas à Espanhola (littlenecks steamed in a tomato and onion sauce). I went for Camarão à Alhinho (Shrimp sauteed in spiced garlic and butter sauce)...mmm, while my friends ordered Bife à Casa (pan seared sirloin steak in beer and garlic sauce). A tip: if you're going for potatoes as a side dish, ask for the fried potatoes sliced like chips. Bomb. We ordered wine to pair with our dishes and finished off with flan and coffee. It was a lovely night of dining and as such, we had a really great time. We never felt rushed. I aim to relieve that experience. read more

Chose this restaurant for my birthday celebration with siblings on a Saturday afternoon. The place is small but cozy & I think due to its size is a bit noisy. Though they do not take reservations we were sorted right away. The staff is very friendly & attentive. Started off with their Portuguese vegetable soup which was very good. They also serve a great dipping sauce with their bread. We ordered the grilled chourico & shrimp & cod cakes for appetizers which were good & also came with a similar dipping sauce but had added chickpeas. Again very good. For my entree I ordered the grilled salted cod. I have had salted cod before & being Cape Verdean have had it growing up, it was a bit saltier then what I've had elsewhere, but very tender & moist. It did have a nice flavor & perfectly grilled. The grilled onions & garlic sauce was tasty. The boiled potatoes were delicious. Even asked them how they were prepared, but didn't get a definitive answer. My siblings had grilled squid with a lemon sauce which was good, pork with rice, however pork was a bit dry & a chicken & shrimp dish which was good. They do serve big portions. One of my favorite Portuguese restaurants! We've been a few times and, so far, the food has been consistently good. Place is on the small side & be prepared to wait to be seated Fridays-Sundays. We did takeout last time. Got 4 steaks, ordered medium rare, & they were perfect despite having to drive 30 minutes home. I was happy they took travel into consideration when cooking them. I definitely need to branch out when I go as I always tend to order one of the streaks. Though, I have had the carne de porco à alentejana & caldo verde; both are also really good. They have live entertainment sometimes as well, including Fado, which drives home that old-school Portuguese vibe. Will definitely be back, hopefully for years to come. read more

Staff were very friendly and engaging despite the fact that the small dining area was full of guests. Prices are very reasonable and portions are large although the menu is limited which would be OK if the actual quality was a bit better. Things (chicken and salmon dishes) were overcooked and rather dry. Also it is not the best choice if you enjoy conversation without shouting which several guests were quite adept at. So if you would like kind of a cross-cultural experience it would be worth a shot but if you are expecting a fine dining experience there are better choices. read more
