Octopus special (only served on Fridays)
    Victoria S.

Our favorite Portuguese restaurant in RI! Very authentic food that is extremely good! We love coming here on Friday to get the Octopus special (only served on Fridays) if you do come for the Octopus, get here early, bc they sell out! 10/10 service and food always!!

Pastéis de Bacalhau e Rissois de Camarão

Food: we ordered the sautéed shrimp (camarão), Pastéis de Bacalhau and shrimp rissois appetizers and I ordered the Bitoque plate. Everything was so delicious but that Shrimp appetizer was 10/10. We used the bread to eat all of the sauce that came with the shrimp. It was that good! Service: waitress was quick and always made sure our water glasses were full. We didn't have a reservation but were seated fairly quick. We got to the restaurant early. It looks like we might have had a wait if we came later in the day. Ambiance: soccer on the tv, laughs and loud conversations all around us. I felt like I was at home. I really enjoyed the ambiance and being able to peak at what was happening during the soccer games. Everyone chatted with everyone (even though we didn't know anyone). Overall I would highly recommend this place. As soon as we entered we were treated like family and the food was delicious. One of my favorite Portuguese restaurant experiences so far! Great job to the owners and staff.

Fried smelts special, littlenecks in white wine and garlic.

I have been eating at O Dinis for over twenty years, and having lived in NYC for the last thirteen, it's a must whenever I'm back home. Just had an amazing birthday dinner for a friend with eight people total. Natalia, Danny, Miguel, and the young lady who served us were all incredible and welcoming. Always try the specials; we had fried smelts which were perfect, as well as a delicious pork shank and seafood stew. Beyond that, the steak a casa, alentejana, galinha, and shellfish are always great, as is the wine and dessert. I almost don't want to write this review for fear that I won't be able to get a table next time! An all-time favorite.

    Gambas (shrimp) in garlic sauce.

Loved it. Authentic family-run Portuguese restaurant. Appetizers we tried - all good: huge grilled chorizo, whole calamari, gambas (shrimp) in garlic sauce. I had the Gambas (shrimp) entree. My friends wife had the salted cod. She's a Rhode Islander and said it was good. My friend had the pork with the steamers and he said it was terrific. See the pictures. I thought it was a bit strange that they give you shoelace french fries and rice. Both were good but I just don't want double carbs. Not complaining. I really liked the rice. Arguably the best part of the experience was the wait staff. This is a traditional family/ neighborhood place. The waitresses recognized my friend and were giving us hugs (he's a doctor and we aren't kids so of course we loved the attention). If you want old country peasant food in a family atmosphere with plenty of wine, this is the place for you. I will go back. Loved it.

One of my favorite spots to eat whether it's the steak with the beer garlic sauce or the pork dish with the clams for a dinner. The apps. The fire sausage an the clams in the red sauce an the bread to dip in the red clam sauce

Stopped here on the way to Massachusetts. Hungry from being on the road for a couple hours, we enjoyed the delicious clams and sopped up the juices with bread. We asked for recommendations from the waitress, who noted everything on the menu was good. My husband and I got the marinated pork chops and chicken. I was not as impressed as I was with the clams. The plates weren't bad, they just weren't "wow." The restaurant is also very loud and cramped. There seemed to be a lot of Portuguese folks there, so I would imagine the food is authentic. The waitress was very nice, although I wish she would have been more helpful or opinionated on the menu options.

I finally got to go here for lunch. The place does an incredible business, and I couldn't get in the last time. After reading the last Yelp review, I was worried about what to expect, but luckily, it was as far from the truth as you can get. They're probably a disgruntled ex employee. So one of the only drawbacks is no private lot. You can park on a side street, though. We entered the restaurant and were promptly greeted by our soon to be server. She was courteous and attentive. The waitress told us about the specials and then we ordered our drinks... Portuguese beer. While waiting to place the orders, I observed the dining room a little. It's comfortable enough, clean and tidy, tables for two a tad too small. I ordered the Portuguese kale soup, which was good, but the broth seemed to be made from seafood stock and tomato, which is different than I'm used to. My main entree was grilled chicken with garlic butter sauce, Portuguese potatoes, and rice. There was also fresh bread and an olive oil dip. The food was delicious and authentic mainland Portuguese cuisine. We'll be back!

Absolutely delicious food. It's a very small restaurant but the food was flavorful. The prices weren't bad at all. The service was amazing.

O Dinis - An Unforgettable Dining Experience In May 2024, a large group of friends gathered for the first time since the pandemic, and while we had an amazing weekend exploring Rhode Island, the absolute highlight was our dinner at O Dinis. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like family. Our waitress was incredible--handling our large group with ease and enthusiasm. Most of us had never tried Portuguese cuisine before, so we entrusted her with our meal choices, and she did not disappoint. Every dish was phenomenal, and the wine selection was just as impressive. They brought out different bottles and multiple glasses so we could sample a variety, making the experience even more special. My wife and I are big foodies--we've dined at James Beard Award-winning and Michelin-starred restaurants--but this was hands-down our favorite group dining experience. If we didn't live in Texas, we would absolutely be regulars. We're incredibly excited to return this June when our group gets back together again. O Dinis is a must-visit!

Amazing food and generous portions. We didn't wait, but the place quickly filled up and there was quite a wait after us. So good!

Wow. If you're looking for a spot that has amazing food, beautiful art and design aspects, friendly…read moreservice, and plates to share, Aguardente is the place for you. A friend and I came in and put our names on the waitlist, waited for about 45 minutes at a bar down the street, and then had some of the most fulfilling tapas ever! We got a Prosciutto & Salpicao board, the Queijo de Cabra, and Frijol Dip. I also got a nice portuguese red wine that paired well with some of the cheese we received. We sat in a very sweet and cozy nook and enjoyed every minute! I will be back when it's warm out and the front patio is open!

My friend and I came here on Father's Day expecting it to be packed, which it was, but there were…read morestill a few tables available, both inside and outside. At their front patio, they had the World Cup game playing, but the back patio felt cozier so we opted for that. The inside though was a strong second since the lighting is very low, creating a cool and calm environment. Walking through the restaurant to get to our table made me realize that each table is unique, no two are decorated the same or have the same furniture. It was a hot day but the overhead mesh cover blocked out a lot of the sun. Our waitress made us feel very welcome from the start and told us about their drink and food specials. My friend ordered Guatemalan beer as well as a Spanish beer. For food, we ordered the plantain fries, octopus, calamari, and shrimp salad, and grilled lamp chops. The seafood salad came out first. According to the menu, it was going to be paired with cornbread. It looked like sourdough bread but had a far denser consistency. I was expecting the salad to have lots of shrimp to act as a filler but surprisingly, it was about 60% octopus, 25% calamari, 10% shrimp, and 5% onions. The seafood was very flavorful, tasted fresh, and cooked perfectly. The portion size was great for two. Next came the plantain fries, which I was least impressed with as it was essentially fried plantain chunks. I think it would have been better if they were cut into smaller pieces that can be easily dipped and consumed in one bite. The plantain was gently ripe, so just a little sweet and the dipping sauce was like a less sour sour cream. Lastly, the lamp chops came out and the presentation was wonderful. They were a bit skinnier and less tender than that I was expecting, but flavor wise they were good. We enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service here.

I'll be honest, they didn't look like much at first, but one bite in and I was sold. Perfectly grilled, simple, and that pimento sauce was absolutely bomb. For the main event, we "split" the paella for one... which turned out to be a feast. We powered through and finished every last piece of rice because it was sooooo good. And dessert? Passionfruit mousse. I don't even like passion fruit, but this was hands-down the best mousse I've ever had in my life. The restaurant itself has a quirky, endearing vibe, kind of like walking into a summer party at your grandma's house, complete with fun, kitschy touches. It somehow transports you to old-school southern Spain but maybe that's just me. Jury's still out on the house wine, but with food this good, I'd come back in a heartbeat. Still gets a 5 from me.

My husband and mother both ordered a beer but were told by either the manager or owner that, and I quote "we're a Portuguese bar we don't serve that shit"; I think my mouth quite literally hit the floor. They have a FULL bar and you expect me to believe you do not carry a single beer, specially Portuguese beer like Sagres or Super Block if you claim to be a Portuguese bar? We were told they could not make a bourbon on the rocks for whatever reason and settled water and soda because it was exhausting trying to figure out what the bartender was capable of making or what they had in stock. I have NEVER been treated with such an attitude within 15 minutes of being seated and would never come back here after this meal, the other waiter who eventually took care of us for the rest of the meal was very kind and did his best to make up for what had occurred. There are so many other Portuguese restaurants in East Providence that Riviera doesn't even compare at this point, overall super disappointed.
