Total hippie vibe here and if that's your thing, that's cool. They dont do New England style IPA beers here at all and that's on purpose. That sucked for me since that's my favorite kind of craft beer. Free stickers are offered and they had maybe a dozen beers on tap at various prices. They do flights that vary in price based on your selection of beers. Tons of merch for sale. Seems like a really cool venue for music and the Saturday afternoon we were there they had a food truck out back. We found our bartender to be very friendly. read more

Though I'm not a beer drinker, I love this place! Pisgah Brewing is my favorite local outdoor venue as it feels like being at a music festival, but I get to drive home and sleep in my own bed at night instead of camping. I've seen many live concerts here over the years ranging from reggae, bluegrass, indie, jam band to funk. They have a large venue in an open-field with a huge wooden stage. During their outdoor shows, they have a beer tent set up as well as food trucks and other vendors and local artists. They also have a bar inside with a small indoor stage. There is a patio area right outside where they often have fires at night. I've always had great experiences with the bartenders here, Pisgah is super welcoming. I love the fact that Pisgah is located a bit outside of Asheville, it always feels like a little getaway going here. BUT, make sure you make smart choices when you go here, don't drink and drive! read more

Fun place to grab a beer in Black Mountain North Carolina, right outside of Asheville. They have a great stage and live music as well as an outdoor stage. Their beer was pretty good, they've been around for 14 years. They do only take cash, so be prepared. They have about 8 of their own brews on tap. They are in the midst of a renovation, they have a great space and excited to see what they are going to do with the space and their tasting room. Cool brewery swag too! read more

Driving to Asheville from Catawba Falls Boyfriend and I decided to check out a few breweries in Black Mountain, stop no 2: Pisgah Brewing Company Boyfriend and I were able to sample two flights of four beers which were $7/each. Boyfriend really enjoyed the Valdez, a coffee stout (if I am going to drink a coffee beer in the mountains, I prefer the Highland Thunderstruck Coffee Porter), and the Nitro Vanilla Porter. I thought that a few of the beers were good but none of them really impressed me. I did not like the service as much here. But, it looks like a cool venue if you want to drink craft beer and enjoy live music. Note, this brewery is dog friendly as long as they are on a leash! It is also cash only so make sure you bring cash or you will be stuck withdrawing it from their ATM with a $2 fee plus the fee from you bank, if applicable. Overall atmosphere was very welcoming and felt like a mix between a warehouse and a dive bar. Which isn't a bad thing. Staff wasn't overly welcoming but service was otherwise timely considering there was only one bartender this evening. Beer is solid with some interesting flavors. Nothing stands out in terms of a truly unique flavor concept or profile for those seasoned in craft brews from across the country, but what they do have they've done well. One star knocked off because cash bar only - was going to let it slide but a modern form of payment should be standard with a closeout penalty and/or minimum if that's the reasoning behind it. read more

We stopped here on the way from Catawba Falls back into Asheville. Thursday afternoon, around 6.30. 7 pm was Liz and her friends performance. Place was rather quiet. We stopped here on the way from Catawba Falls back into Downtown Asheville. We looked at the website in advance so we knew that it was cash-only and also dog friendly. Our pup at inside at the bar with us. It was fairly cool inside, even with the back door open. We were there in the afternoon, so there weren't any concerts happening. I enjoyed the quiet and slowness of the bar in comparison with some of the super-busy competitors nearby. They sell hummus and chips, but I wish more food was available. We had a flight of 4 IPAs: Grey Beard, 98.1 The River, Little Slaty, and Hazy Train. They were all good, but the Hazy Train was amaaaaazing. Pisgah is off the beaten path near Black Mountain, but away from town. They have a neat venue with live music and evidently you can have a wedding/reception there as the day we went there was a wedding which had just occurred. It looked like they were having a great time, so I'm super happy for them. The beer was good, and one of the better nitro stouts I've had. I'm more of a Porter/Stout drinker and not big in nitro stouts, but that was all they had in dark beers read more

Pisgah used to have the best "down and out' taproom in the WNC area - actually the best one I have ever been to, anywhere. The old taproom had probably 15 taps; the core Pisgah beers; more unusual Pisgah beers; and maybe a couple guest taps. Great selection. Pisgah gave up this taproom and the accompanying bewing space near the beginning of the pandemic. It now concentrates its production at a space just "a stone's throw" away. However, the taproom is now outside and the only taps are about four plugged into the side of the trailer. I notice quite a few concerts on their schedule for the coming (2022) summer. And it appears that they might have more beer types available in their taps now. I hope so. This used to be a great place. read more

***this place is cash only! Luckily I had enough on me, but this could be frustrating.*** I was tipped off to this place back in Tampa by a friendly cigar city patron familiar with the Asheville area. When I told him I was traveling to Asheville, he told me Pisgah was a must. I am glad I followed his advice! The setting of this brewery is beautiful. Tucked away in an industrial zone of the Black mountain/Pisgah forest area, it offers some good scenery to go along with some good beer. Their variety of strong, dark beers is on point in the winter months. It took two full flights to even try all of the beers I wanted to for the limited amount of time I would be there. The bartender stuck with me through it and pointed me in the right direction. Their standard porter and vanilla porter are good, solid rotators, but not the best I've ever had. Their Belgian Tripel is hoppier than most with a strong banana note. Not my favorite tripel, but a pleasant surprise. Their red devil is a Belgian ale with cherries and raspberries. The fruit notes are light, yet ever present and it's a deceptively full bodied, yet refreshing and light tasting beer that packs in the alcohol. Cosmos is a porter with Belgian yeast that has an odd banana character to it. Not exactly what I was looking for in a porter. The Mac daddies of their lineup are their special stouts. The valdez hits you full in the face with coffee and backs it up with a roasted coffee taste. If you like coffee stouts, you will like this one. The chocolatized was my favorite. A variation of their vortex stout, it packs in 25lbs of cocoa nibs to give you a nice strong chocolate flavor with an unmatched smoothness. With 11% alcohol, the only thing holding me back from more was the price ($7 for a 12 oz pour). I left the building with two bottles of chocolatized. I hope they distribute to Florida soon! read more

First off - this brewery is cash only! We did not know this when we got here (our fault for not researching) but I did find it odd since they seem to be a decent size place AND they have lots of live shows. They do have an ATM (maybe 2?) on site though. I tried their chocolate pumpkin stout and LOVED it. They are dog friendly, and our pups were loving the attention they got! Good lord. How have I not reviewed this place before now? This is one of the few places in the region that, as a resident of the GREAT Asheville, makes me jealous. One of the best breweries in the region. I put it up there with Wedge for some beers and much better for others. The setting is remarkable and they have started doing outdoor concerts in an adjacent field with a well built wooden stage. I saw Steel Pulse there. They just had Galactic and Cowboy Mouth. They will have Dark Star Orchestra. Hippies galore! (I like Indie rock). Loved it though. Honestly, you really get the feel of all the cool people that I just want to know in Black Mountain/Suwannee area. The dark beers are special to me. Porter and stout are great. One is often served at French Broad Chocolate Factory as a chocolate porter float! The IPA is really great, but Wedge beats it by a nose. The pale ale is the best by far in the region. And one time...back in January...they had 13 dark beers. Many of them are theirs and specially made seasonal. Two that I can't get out of my head are the Valdez Coffee Stout and the Bacon Stout. The latter is so rice it almost gets too much for a second one. The Valdez is just simply amazing. I miss it as it is usually a winter beer I think. Buy Pisgah...put on a bumper sticker...go there...and see a show there too. No credit cards...but they have an ATM. read more

First off, this place was a bit hard to find. The 8.5" x 11" sign on the first building on the right in the industrial park was small. Once we circled around and found the door & the bar, things only got better! Tried a flight of 4 of their beers for $4 and got a pint of the Blueberry Wheat, which was excellent. The Coconut Porter was probably the darkest beer my fiancee and I ever liked. We both kept sipping our sample of it and saying, "We don't like dark beer or coconut, but there's something about this that's actually quite delicious!" My mom thought the place looked like a dive, but soon warmed to the location and actually had the first beer I've really ever seen her drink. After a while we wandered into the "pool room", pas their outside tables and in a little hanger-sized room. Loved the clock permanently stopped at 4:20. Ha! Played pool there for a half-hour or more. Fun place, good beer, and boy was it hopping at 2:30pm on a random Thursday afternoon! read more

Disclaimer - I'm not a beer snob but do enjoy an occasional libation or two. A beer fan told me about this place and I'm glad he did as it didn't disappoint. This place has a super local feel to it. I grabbed a flight of beers and could have easily gone for two - the selection is pretty vast for a smaller brewery. There wasn't really a week link in the bunch. Bartenders and patrons are super friendly and laid back. I see where many people say it's hard to find, but it's right where the GPS shows and then pretty obvious once you walk in the door. Pisgah Brewery puts out some of the best beer in WNC!!! The taproom is great & features a rotating cast of beers made on site and other great local beers from other high-quality local craft brewers! Dogs welcome in taproom outdoor smoking/fire pit area!(except summer outdoor field shows for safety reasons) The taproom features an indoor stage that was recently expanded to accommodate more music/beer loving patrons! I have seen many shows inside and really enjoy the intimate setting that allows for great crowd interaction with both local and national touring acts. The New Mastersounds, Cedric Burnside, Charlie Hunter, Shane Pruitt Band, to name just a few shows we have seen in the past year:-) Food trucks set up out back for most indoor shows along with a nice fire pit and picnic tables for outdoor chilling. Large doors open the venue up to the picnic area giving it a great indoor/outdoor feel! Late spring all the way through the summer, outdoor shows are held in the field located onsite, which features a full-size stage big enough to accommodate most national touring acts! Sharon Jones(RIP), Maceo Parker, Dark Star Orchestra, Umphrey's McGee, Toubab Krewe, Leftover Salmon, Keller Williams and may more have made appearances outdoors in the field @ Pisgah Brewery! We made a special trip to come here after trying some of their beer at NC brewers fest in charlotte. Which really, you'd have yo make a point to get here since it is in the middle of nowhere. Truly a hidden gem though, once you find your way to the taproom, you are transported to hippie paradise. Awesome outdoor beer garden, great music and of course some just solid, good beer. Like every brewery in w. NC you have some questionable characters lingering around but that contributes to the overall experience. You can get flights but bf and I opted for a porter and ESB, both of which were excellent. So good we had to go for our standard share beer and went with the IPA. All were very good and not too hoppy but my favorite was the ESB. If you're in the Asheville area and are looking to get your hippie funk on, definately add pisgah to your itinerary! read more

We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and totally enjoyed ourselves. The space is open and appealing, and while there was no music at that time its clear its a big part of what this brewery is up to. During our visit we were however glad that the music playing was both very cool and not too loud. We could talk...yay! It was a little chilly to sit outside, but others took advantage of the outdoor space, including some dogs. There was a food truck too, which we didn't partake of but that is always nice to have. We did a flight, and I must say I was quite enamored of their tripel and the double IPA. The Chocolatized was also very good, but jut not so much my thing that day. Just me. How I wish the breweries in Georgia were like what we are finding in North Carolina. Hopefully they'll get there... or we'll move. read more

Favorite brewery hands down. From the freshness of the beer to the amazing customer service these guys have it down. Usually they have a band playing on the weekend resulting in a pretty groovy vibe. Their beers are very well priced. The staff is always willing to chat with you if they have a minute and are extremely courteous. We have come here three times for concerts. The venue is laid back, comfortable and family friendly. You're welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets and it seems like there are always lots of little kids running around enjoying themselves. Maybe my favorite brewery, ever. Pisgah brewing is just a little slice of heaven. The staff are so kind and friendly. We love to sit at the bar and hang out. At first glance this seems like a very odd location, but it works for them. They have a great indoor stage. Also an amazing outdoor stage and event space for larger concerts. Cash only, but there's an ATM. I don't mind this. They experiment with many types of beer using ingredients from local farms and even from their own backyard. I love all their styles and how they are constantly rotating the taps. Anyone can find something to drink here. They are truly innovators and have been around for many years. Got kicked out because we had a crying infant. Not even given 5 minutes to chill him out before the bartender came over to kick us out. Afterward he calmed down and we visited with local friends to tell us what had just happened to us. Nobody had complained, just a jerk of a bartender. First of all, this place was SUPER hard to find. Their website also didn't work on my phone. My friend and I who love great beer went in to have a couple flights and see what they had to offer. The beers were mediocre. The only one that was even slightly worthwhile was the Belgian style Balkan Porter. Everything else was pretty one-noted and some were just not good. To top it off, the bartender was extremely rude (we had also heard this from other friends who came last week) and was EXTREMELY pretentious. Every time we ordered more beers he would scoff about something we would say. It is a cool place in the back of a warehouse, but don't expect great service! It is great that their beers are organic, but I just wish they tasted better! read more

How are there only two reviews of this place?! I'm new to Asheville area and went here last night for the first time. Yes, it needs a sign. Not sure I would have found it if I hadn't been following a local. But it was a lovely warm evening, and there was certainly no better place to be. Warehouse-ish bar area, with a band that started kicking around 8pm. Usually I feel a little put-upon when bands just appear, but the music was great and funky, if a bit loud. Chilled out on the lovely grassy area out back - it has a little stream running through it and the kids were loving it. Reminded me of where Winnie the Pooh might hang out - you know, if he were a beer-drinking kind of bear. Up near the warehouse, a Jamaican guy was grilling and selling some delicious jerk chicken. Had another beer as the stars came out and the bonfire kept things cozy. The crowd was friendly and fun. I predict many a summer afternoon/evening hanging out at this place.... read more
