Massive Gyros Sandwich
Olivia S.

Was craving a quick fix for Greek and this place hit the spot. I got the gyro that had thick, moist slices of gyro meat with lots of feta ($1 added charge) tomato, cucumber, lettuce. Yum. It's nestled away in a gas station parking lot. I hope this place gets well-deserved traction despite the kinda hidden location! The restaurant is a humble, clean establishment. Has chairs for seating. Service was prompt and friendly. Will be back 9/10!

Rice was cold, dry, and old tasting. Hummus had the consistency of soup and tasted horrible.

Gyro King of Escondido. This strip mall location, which is behind a gas station, has been serving up piles of tasty gyro for over a decade. Locals know this place very well. It's consistently fresh and tasty. Price is affordable for their large portions. Their gyro meat and rice both have a very distinctive flavor. I find it unique and delicious. Not much ambiance - There's a dining area, but this place does a brisk take out business for a reason. - Massive gyro sandwich

Recommend by a friend and it did not disappoint! Very flavorful, fresh and generous portions. The gentleman was super nice - I had to take a phone call so I stepped outside and he brought me my (to-go) order when it was ready! Cute little place to grab some great food!

Every time we are in San Diego, we stop by Pita King to get our favorite Greek food! It's their Gyro Plate with hand carved beef or lamb for $17 regular/$20 Large. Pita King never disappoints! Portions are huge and the Gyros and sauces are fresh and delicious. You can eat in as there are clean and comfy chairs and tables for diners. Or you can have your food to go as I always do. The service is great- fast and easy. It is a casual Greek place and it's clean and big enough. It's right across from a gas station and convenience store so everything is there for your convenience. Great place to stop by if you're on for a long drive to Vegas!

Came here yesterday and the gentleman who helped me was very respectful and quick to make my food. Great customer service....no complaints there. Problem is, my Gyro wrap was super salty. So salty, I could not eat it all and had to give a lot to my children. Thankfully, they enjoyed it. I haven't ever encountered a restaurant that had made my food too salty, so this was a first. I'll come again, but just request less salt.

Best gyro loaded with meat!

It's been years since I first tried Pita king. It was and continues to be the best gyro I've ever had. There is absolutely no better place in Escondido to get a gyro. Must get with feta! It's so creamy and smooth. The gyro meat is so flavorful with the perfect char. The pita chips are excellent made from their pita bread which is great. The gyro is massive and easily 2 meals! You pretty much get a salad on top of it and when you get to the bottom of that there's a pile of gyro meat! The people are always friendly and now I live closer to it so I'll be supporting the business more often now. Thanks Pita King!

Vegetarian Combo

This is a hidden gem in Escondido! I've been to Pita King twice and love it. There was one guy doing everything and he was so attentive and kind to everyone that came in. I got the vegetarian plate and it was so heavy! Definitely worth the price. So much flavor and great variety. I saw other people's dishes and they looked great too!

I drive from San Marco's. I arrived at 7:40. Employee let me know they are closed closed. It took me 15 minutes to get home. That's when I screenshot what their hours were. Had I known they would be closed I would have never made my way over there with a toddler on Mother's Day.

We ordered takeout from Pita King and haven't eaten here in years. My last experience the chicken was overcooked and I was not impressed. We ordered two chicken plates, a gyro combo plate, and a chicken pita sandwich. Unfortunately they gave us a gyro sandwich instead of the pit sandwich (boo) and it was very messy and greasy and falling apart. Wouldn't order again. The chicken plate was huge and had lots of bell peppers which was nice. Consider sharing meal if you're not a huge eater. Greek salad was different than I'm used to (had egg in it) and came already dressed. I didn't love the dressing and would have preferred a traditional red wine vinaigrette dressing. I'd order dressing on the side. The pita slices that came with the meal were small and on the hard side, not big and fluffy as some other places. Tzatziki was good but in a very small container. Everything was just ok. I wouldnt come running back but it was good in a pinch and is close to home.

Gyros Sandwich

Got the Gyro Pita and it is absolutely massive! Very delicious, the meat has a very smoky flavor. Definitely worth a trip, wish I lived in the area so I could go back.

Carne Asada Fries !! They're now offering Mexican food!!

Do they roast the gyro meat on a proper vertical roaster, or do they buy the salty premade sliced stuff from Restaurant Depot like so many pita places do? I don't see any roasters in the photos, so I doubt it.

Yes they do. I remember watching them carve the slices off for my gyro through the window at the front counter. It's delicious!

I love this place! Food is delicious. Would recommend to…read moreanyone, it's a little loud inside but if you're not eating there it doesn't matter. Staff is friendly. I did however have a bit a negative experience, picked up lunch couple days ago and got a chicken kabob bowl and as I bit into it noticed the chicken was undercooked. Didn't have time to go back and share with staff.

Why did I come here?…read more With a hunger for mediterranean and the worry that nearby Aria may be a bit too pricey for a quick meal, I brought my son out to The Pita Guys for some gyro or shawarma. What we found were limited options, higher than expected prices, less than helpful staff, and not the best of food. Being my first time, I had questions about the menu. The young pair behind the counter didn't seem to know what they were serving, as they kept looking at one another for guidance with little ability to give me much relevant info on anything other than what types or protein they had. Once I finally ordered, they started to taking and filling the orders of people behind me. It wasn't until a much older woman came in from the back before my own dinner started being prepared. Seriously, it was a pretty weird setup. The food was served Subway style, where they go down the line asking what you wanted added to your wrap. Shawarma meat is minced, staying warm in a tub, and scooped to order by a spoon resting in a bin of cloudy water. Not only did it feel a bit gross, but it also seemed that the bulk of the juice in the meat came from that watery spoon, as the shawarma I ate was very dry. When it came to my son's Shawarma Plate, the menu stated that it came with two sides. What they don't tell you is that the only choices on the 'sides' menu open to you are Hummus and a Salad. The much more desired sides of Falafel, Baba Ghanoush, or even kid friendly Fries, were not offered. Needless to say, my son ate his chicken and rice, but wouldn't touch his hummus. So, a Shawarma Plate and a Shawarma wrap ... dinner for two, not a ton of food, neither of us were all that impressed ... and it cost us over $40. Needless to say, with how everything tasted and what it took to get ... we won't be coming back. For the price it cost us, I think we'll stick with the far superior Aria up the street. Or, at the very least, try the Kebab Shop down the block.

This is a "large" bowl for $17. Pretty sad considering you can buy an entire rotisserie chicken at any grocery store for like $6-10.
