After our customary PT, we decided to stop for a lunch on this strip mall. The selection is usual - Mexican, pizza and Pita Guys. Our orders to go were - Build your own pita wrap with falafel and Chicken shawarma pita wrap. Build your own - the employees are doing all the toppings for you ( since a 3% service charge on your bill), also I was surprised by 8.75% sales tax in San Marcos. Food was very good (I liked garlic souse on my chicken shawarma), unfortunately pita was cold and chewy (one star off). Next time, the suggestion was made - take a bowl, same ingredients, maybe pita on a side. The place is small, just a few tables inside and outside also. My husband and I love The Pita Guys! I wrote it a review about 4 years ago and gave it 5 stars. I would do the same today. My husband and I usually get the Mediterranean salad with chicken and it is enough food for both of us. We love all the things you can add to your salad like olives, hummus, cheese, and about 10 other options as well. My husband's favorite is the salad but I love the falafels! I usually order 6 so I can bring some home but when we went this time, my husband enjoyed them too. If I had one complaint, I wish they served iced tea. Ahh what an absolutely lovely dining experience! First of all, the inside of the restaurant absolutely sparkles with cleanliness, which is so inviting and refreshing. I'm serious, I have never been to an eatery that is THIS clean and shows such pride in ownership and valuing of customers. Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let's talk about the food! We got two plates and a sandwich along with fries and a side of falafel (not pictured because we devoured it too quickly !). Everything was absolutely delicious, made fresh with the best ingredients. Pita Guys reminds you of Cava and Chipotle since they assemble the food in front of you. Tried the chicken shawarma plate. It comes with pita chips or bread. Wish we got the chips bc the bread was stuck--the wrapper got stuck to the bread. They don't give enough bread but portions for everything else (protein, rice, and sauce) was good. The plate was large enough to share / split between two people. We had extra sides left over (tzatziki and hummus). The baklava/baklawa was crispy but crumbled easily. The brownie was rich but the pistachio gave it a nice crunch and flavor ! Friendly service ! Ambiance is chill and casual. They played hit songs / throwback music. They definitely raised the prices from what was currently listed on their page (included photos for y'all). Would definitely come back to try other items if it weren't so expensive. There weren't many options for us in San Marcos, but if you're in this area and crave Mediterranean food, this is a solid spot. read more

Why did I come here? With a hunger for mediterranean and the worry that nearby Aria may be a bit too pricey for a quick meal, I brought my son out to The Pita Guys for some gyro or shawarma. What we found were limited options, higher than expected prices, less than helpful staff, and not the best of food. Being my first time, I had questions about the menu. The young pair behind the counter didn't seem to know what they were serving, as they kept looking at one another for guidance with little ability to give me much relevant info on anything other than what types or protein they had. Once I finally ordered, they started to taking and filling the orders of people behind me. It wasn't until a much older woman came in from the back before my own dinner started being prepared. Seriously, it was a pretty weird setup. The food was served Subway style, where they go down the line asking what you wanted added to your wrap. Shawarma meat is minced, staying warm in a tub, and scooped to order by a spoon resting in a bin of cloudy water. Not only did it feel a bit gross, but it also seemed that the bulk of the juice in the meat came from that watery spoon, as the shawarma I ate was very dry. When it came to my son's Shawarma Plate, the menu stated that it came with two sides. What they don't tell you is that the only choices on the 'sides' menu open to you are Hummus and a Salad. The much more desired sides of Falafel, Baba Ghanoush, or even kid friendly Fries, were not offered. Needless to say, my son ate his chicken and rice, but wouldn't touch his hummus. So, a Shawarma Plate and a Shawarma wrap ... dinner for two, not a ton of food, neither of us were all that impressed ... and it cost us over $40. Needless to say, with how everything tasted and what it took to get ... we won't be coming back. For the price it cost us, I think we'll stick with the far superior Aria up the street. Or, at the very least, try the Kebab Shop down the block. read more

We only had salads. Didn't try anything else. I think the biggest problem I had was that the meats were already cooked and kept at the counter - this neither works for kebabs nor shawarma. Maybe it's helpful for some who wants immediate service like subway but at $20 for a salad I don't want meat that is possibly sitting there for a while. I would appreciate an option to have fresh cooked kebabs made and shawarma fresh shaved off the spit. The beef/lamba shawarma was much better than the chicken kebab which was just warm and dry. But I think fresh shaved off the spit would definitely be better. The rest of the salad was pretty okay. We got a pretty small serving of the sauce for the whole salad however maybe we shouldve asked for more. read more

Heard good things about the pita guys. Decided to try them. I went during lunch, there wasn't anybody in line, except one lady before me. I got the small bowl, and it was quite small for $16ish. They do stuff it with sides and they add rice, with almonds if you want. Then she put a scoop of chicken, but for some reason it was not a full scoop, I would say I got like half, like about 3oz of meat. The worker before stuffed the other lady's order, but this staff was a bit stingy. Ok. So I didn't really know what was what and I would ask but I could not hear bc they have a thick glass and the music was loud. It was not a good experience. The male staff who serviced the girl behind me pointed that the items are listed on the glass window. Would be nice to know beforehand. Anyway I got salad, garlic sauce, pickles, cucumber, tomatoes, hummus and tzatziki. It was just too many toppings in a small confined space. The bowl is just way too small. The little amount of chicken I got tasted pretty good. It was nicely seasoned. Too bad I didn't get much of it. I don't think I would return. We visited this restaurant twice this weekend. My daughter, who's a picky eater, absolutely loved the chicken and rice bowl. I appreciate the customization options for my bowl. Amazing Mediterranean food, and truly hard to find in North County. My girlfriend and I stopped in right before closing since she had to work late, and the staff couldn't have been nicer. They welcomed us without hesitation even though it was near closing time. A lot of places in the area rush you out the door 20 minutes before close, so this was a refreshing change. We ordered one chicken shawarma plate and one beef shawarma plate, both of which were delicious. We sat outside so the team could start closing up, and the manager, Tariq, came out to check on us personally. He even offered us two extra plates that had been called in but never picked up. That kind of generosity and genuine hospitality is rare, especially from a fast casual spot. Very bad experience with our takeout. What made it worse was that we picked up a lot of food for the company we were having that night. It was so embarrassing to feed guests such bad food. Humus was revolting. Absolutely inedible. Lamb and chicken shawarma were old, stale and chewy. Salad had dark brown old lettuce. The only decent thing was rice, hence extra star. We love Pita Guys! We got the tri-tip plate and the chicken shwarma and they were delicious! The best part though was the manager or owner was in, interacting with the customers and he also was making a new menu item for the customers in line to try (picture attached). The new item was really good! It was a pita wrap with chicken, different sauces, and it was toasted so the pita was crunchy on the outside but still soft on the inside. He made a full size item for each customer that was in as well! Not even just a sample size. We placed a large takeout order from Pita Guys for my daughter's birthday party and everything was wonderful. The food was delicious, there were great options to choose from and the pricing was very reasonable. When my husband went to pick up the order, he only had to wait a few minutes, which was completely understandable given the size of the order. He was greeted by the owner, who kindly apologized that the food wasn't quite ready yet, even though my husband had actually arrived a few minutes early. When the owner found out the food was for my daughter's birthday party, he insisted on including enough desserts for everyone in our group at no charge. He even added extra food and bread. It was such a thoughtful and generous gesture and truly went above and beyond. We would absolutely return to Pita Guys just for the delicious food, but the kindness and hospitality from the owner and staff made the experience even more special. I got the medium chicken sharwama bowl. It was very tasty I got it all the fixings. I would say though the chicken was a little dry. The bowl was very flavorful and they didn't overdue with rice. I ordered pickup so cannot say much for the ambience. It was pricey for the size of the bowl $15 for medium bowl. My order was prepared and ready by the time promised. This is my second time at this location. First time I had a chicken kebab plate. This too was flavorful and the chicken was moist. I will definitely be back. read more

Regulars here for quite a few years. Recent visit was absolutely horrible. I ordered chicken schwarma-- pretty much a staple here, and it was the regular dinner hour. The guy helping me showed me the chicken schwarma, and said "this is for online orders, so the wait is 20 minutes." Two of the three menu screens were broken, and all the prices on the printed menu were blanked out. Basically, they're now phoning it in. And if you want one of the basic regular meats like the chicken schwarma or the beef/lamb, looks like you're better off phoning your order in, rather than driving all the way there and having them tell you that they're currently making orders for people who aren't there. read more

I really enjoy the food at this place and the service and employees have always been great. However, I was very disturbed by an incident that occurred the last time I visited. I believe it was the owner's wife who came into the restaurant and began loudly and aggressively berating one of the employees in front of the customers. The entire place went quiet while she was doing it and everyone was very obviously uncomfortable. I can't, in good conscience, support a store that treats its employees this way. I was never that big of a fan of this place, but unless I wanted to drive to Escondido this was the next best option for kabob type fare. Rice and salad portion is good. The meat portion is okay, but often salty. I found the hummus and other sauces to be bland. Whether there is one person in front of you or a group on lunch break, service will be super slow. Went here on a Sunday afternoon. Got the shawarma fries meal and it did not disappoint. Food was cooked very well and made to order with the extras I wanted. Great value for the money since I was able to save my leftovers into my dinner for that night. The only drawbacks are: the bathroom seems to have been unavailable for months. Seems a bit off putting to not have a way for customers to wash their hands before they eat. The interior seating seems to have been reduced by a lot, with only 3 tables now available to sit in. Not sure what happened, as they seem to constantly rearrange their look but it gets less enjoyable with each one. Not the biggest issue since I got a table, but, on busier days it would be an inconvenience to not be able to eat there. Outside seating is limited and shared with other neighboring restaurants too. The table itself wasn't cleaned before we sat down. Minor issue but still, not a fan of getting sticky arms when I sit down. All of the points above shouldn't deter you from this place since the food is amazing. But the Oceanside location doesn't suffer from any of these issues. She did above and beyond in what to recommend, gave explanations on certain sides, and best of all had a really good attitude. I hope the owners recognize her great customer service. Food was incredibly fresh and delicious. Honestly, I felt like it was too fresh at one point from how bad I used to eat. This is pretty much a Chipotle and cava mash up. Glad to have found this spot tucked away off of the freeway. Food is fresh and made to order right in front of your hungry eyes (belly). Service is quick and the staff is super helpful explaining all the differences between the meats and toppings. The place is super causal and clean nothing too complicated here. Get in, order, sit and or go. Plain and simple. A full order of falafel will yield a dozen balls of joy and comes with various sizes. Don't forget the specialty deserts in the cooler they are very tasty. The baklava is super sweet and crispy.
