Had not been back here in over 2 years as I live in Temecula. However, I was soooo disappointed at the extreme poor quality of the gyro meat!! Being from the east coast it's bad enough I have to deal w/this beef/lamb mix instead of just LAMB, but this used to be the best gyros I could find in California! The meat was always fresh, nice slices grilled to crisp perfection. Today I had some sort of cheapy, gristly, crumbly meat. Definitely not what I was accustomed to getting. Out and about shopping in an unfamiliar area and so we're looking for a place to eat dinner. Pulled up Yelp and found this place and it got decent ratings. The place is dated but it looked clean. The service was good, our waitress came by and took our order very quickly. I ordered a gyro sandwich with a side of fries. My wife ordered a gyro plate which came with pita bread, rice and a small Greek side salad. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. Good stuff! read more

It's been over 10 years since I first reviewed Chicken Plus and it still deserves 5 stars. I finally tried the pastitsio dinner which I have wanted for years and for whatever reason haven't ordered. I wish I knew. Never received our order. Received someone else's order ( a vegetarian order) and the delivery driver went back to the home she accidentally left our order at (we weren't told she was going to do that). We were told we were getting a refund. Over an hour later she knocked on our door ( restaurant was closed) with our food. We told her we had to eat some of the food she left us because we were hungry. She did not understand, she didn't speak English. Our food she picked up from the other home was tampered with. It was the only way to find out what was in it, since there is no receipt attached. I am a retired food establishment manager and Food Safe Certified. You cannot do this it's not safe. If anyone would have gotten sick it's a lawsuit. The food I had was all vegetarian. Plenty of salads. I received no chicken. I love the chicken at Chicken Plus but I don't know if I could ever eat there again since DoorDash denied our refund . To start, the employees are AWESOME! There was one employee with very cool tattoos that was very kind, and another named Maria that was so very sweet! So joyous and it radiates. Next of all, The food is simple and satisfying! The chicken is absolutely delicious, next time I come I will be ordering a whole plate of chicken a la carte. The Diet Coke I had was bubbly and scratched that fizzy drink craving. Lastly, the shop decor is so simple and homey. I've been dining here for over 20 years. I can't believe I've never left a review! I raised my kids just down the street from here. They often return with my grandkids. I no longer eat meat and the vegetarian options are solid and delicious. My kids all loved when I brought home the chicken dinner for them. The owner is a sweetheart of a man. When I left the state for a bit and moved back, he was so sweet about letting me eat on the patio with my cat. I do not recommend bringing animals to ANY restaurant whatsoever, but I had just pulled in from E Wa and needed the downtime and of course stuffed grape leaves and salad. I'm really struggling with this review. I think it matters what you value most in this situation. Here's the thing, the lady at the counter was super sweet while taking our order. I got falafel and the hubby got the ribs. When ordering, I asked for the diet coke- the machine was out so I took regular. Not a huge deal but in the grand scheme of things, it was the start of us noticing what was lacking. As we waited for the food, we noticed that there was no music playing. It created for a very weird atmosphere, especially since it's such a small place. Because it's small, it's also very cluttered. When the food arrived, my husband mentioned that he should have thought twice ordering ribs at a non-bbq place. Of course, I tried his fries, neither one of us were fans. My falafel was really good. However, they focused on presentation over functionality. The lettuce, tomatoes, onions, were all on top of the paper. There was no way to it is practically. I took off all the topings and tried to add them back as I could. While it was an annoyance, I can't deny the flavor and texture of the falafel balls. They were spot on. I mentioned the service, which truly was great between the two ladies that we interacted with. However, it was awkward to constantly have to ask them for things that should have come standard like BBQ sauce for the ribs. My advice, stick to the Greek food, especially the falafel. Be prepared to have it be messy as you'll need to deconstruct it. And maybe have it delivered or pickup but avoid eating there. read more

The $9.99 beef and lamb gyros are very good, with tender and tasty meat under a huge pile of roma tomatoes and raw onions on a manufactured fluffy pita bread. The small side of cucumber sauce is fine. The $2.99 fries are very good but not quite crispy enough, so I'd ask for them to be a bit more well done. Went to this restaurant last night for the first time with a friend. I was very impressed with their service and their food!! We had chicken, Greek salad, French fries, and bread. AWESOME!!!! Another great thing is if you have allergies such as shellfish.... Most of the time there's not much on menus to eat... but here was great not to have to worry about that. Still taking advantage of inflated Covid pricing despite now being 2024, the food at this local dive is good but breathtakingly expensive. In addition, they've reduced the amount of meat in EVERY item AND cut the amount of sauce that comes with each item by half by downsizing the plastic containers the sauces come in from 2 oz to 1 oz, unless of course you want to pay more for extra. Example: a dinner and appetizer that used to cost me about $16 is now costing almost $23. I'd say it's time for a price and quantity rollback, wouldn't you? read more

Quaint place with friendly service. I have to be honest that the menu overwhelmed me as it was a mixed choice of greek and bbq offerings. Though I did not order it, I was surprised by their salad serving. Another customer ordered a medium salad and it came out in a fairly huge serving bowl. Really underrated place for Greek cuisine. I think it was the owner or manager came by our table to grab our order, very nice guy. The cashier/waitress was also really great. We dined in and got a shish kebab plate and gyro plate. Don't sleep on those Greek salads, they were super loaded and tasty. My gyro plate had great potion, I loved the warm pita bread and gyro meat. The shish Kabob beef plate had giant chunks of meat and bell pepper. Just delicious. I need to come back and try the chicken. An employee was having their lunch at the table next to us, and she had mashed potatoes on her plate. It looked sooo yummy. Some surprisingly good food here. I have not yet had a lamb shank anywhere in San Diego that gets close in comparison. Fall of the bone goodness with all of the vegies and rice. Beef Kabob was terrific with meat so very tender and perfectly skewered/grilled veggies. We decided to also try the ribs (excellent) and rotisserie chicken (waaay tastier than Costco). We will be getting some catering done from these guys in the future. Not too much for ambiance and characteristic décor, but the food definitely exhibits the strongpoints of this eatery. If you want good (Greek) food and a few other localities/specialty items (they even have tortillas and French fries), then this is a must try. Highly recommended if you haven't yet tried it. Chicken was juicy and flavorful, the veggies were grilled to perfection and the rice just complete the plate. Feel like they could dab a little hummus for the pita bread that is included though. Just a dab will do. the hummus is okay. Not the best in my opinion, but it does the though. Also, the parking is weird. Most of not all spaces say 30mins? We just winged it as we went on a Sunday.
