I tried to call to resolve but they only offered that i come to restaraunt and pick up a free order of pita bread. Beware !! They no longer deliver but use doordash. I ordered two platters that come with rice and pita bread and order of falafel and order of baba gahanoui. There was no pita bread no rice and portions of platter were tiny. Cost was $60 !! Very poor customer service too.. They did not offer to send out missing food. They stated that I ordered incorrectly .. incorrect ! Their application is cause not me. After getting no where with phone call .. i asked for a refund they balked at that. I stated i will post negative reviews. They said ... Please do that.. this occurred June 11 2026 at 8:45pm.. It's challenging to find a good Middle Eastern restaurant in the area. My go-to is typically Pita Inn. Recently, I was very pleasantly surprised by the flavors and food quality at Hala In. Although the falafels were a bit under-seasoned to what I crave, their mujadra, hummus, pita, and baba ghanouj were delicious. My hats off to them for not skimping on flavors, spices, and acid, i.e., lemon juice! Yum! Be warned: At least when we went on a cold April evening, the restaurant was quite chilly. I hope they'll either bump up the thermostat or add a secondary door structure to minimize how much cold air enters where everyone is seated. Brr! read more

We ordered a large carry-out meal from Hala In for Mother's Day, and it was absolutely fantastic. We got the combination platter for 10 people, which included two generous trays of rice, a tray of perfectly seasoned meats (chicken kabob, beef kabob, and kifta with bell peppers), a fresh tray of salad, and a great assortment of complimentary sauces--yogurt, garlic, and hot sauce. I also added a side of falafels, which were crispy and flavorful. To top it all off, they included a complimentary dessert, as well as free plates and utensils--everything was ready for a great family gathering. The quality of the food was top-notch, and every single person in my family loved it. The meats were tender, juicy, and well-spiced, and you could really taste the care put into the preparation. The service was tremendous--kind, generous, and very thoughtful. One word of advice: it would be helpful if they followed up with a notification when large orders are ready, just in case a customer forgets. They have the best hummus in Chicago. I know that's a particular kind of thing - so what I meant was that on a balance of smoothness and flavour it's better than others. There are things you have to carefully and lovingly do to achieve that. The place operates like a family owned spot, idk if it is ...but they shared some of their own off menu with me and it was great. You know the homestyle things not on menus anywhere. Excellent Middle eastern Resturant. From outside looked like a hole in the wall. Seating was cafeteria style, 8 tables. Just before seeing a play, we had an hour at hand so decided to try this place Along with two friends. The Palestinian owners were very good, his two young sons were assisting by the tables, services was excellent and quick. We ordered mixed salad, a veggi platter and a meat platter, it was all mouthwatering and excellent. Bottled water was complimentary and soda was optional. The Falafel were fresh and very tasty. So my hubby has been on this Middle Eastern restaurant kick lately...I'm pretty sure it's because many of the restaurants have killer lunch specials, and Hala's has now made it to the list. Yesterday's lunch special was $6.99, and it was an incredible value. It came with a chicken kabob, rice, pita bread on the side and a salad. The chicken was kabob style with big chunks of chicken served on a bed of rice. It was juicy and tender and nicely seasoned, but more on the mild side. The portion size was perfect. The rice seemed just a tad overcooked, but it was packed with flavor. The salad was simple and a nice addition to balance things out. We ordered a plate of hummus, and it was devoid of any salt, but in a good way. I also had the chance to try the lentil soup. It was wonderfully thick. The restaurant is a neighborhood gem, and everyone seemed to know one other. It was small with one long communal table in the middle, and a bunch of two-seat tables around the perimeter. It was pretty packed in there. We sat next to a bunch of people we didn't know--very cool. The crowd was interesting to say the least. We encountered a guy dressed as satan with a vote for Bernie t-shirt on. That made for an extra memorable experience :-) Easy parking. read more

Rice being a staple food when growing up caught my attention. Mujaddara was a delicious rice choice mixed with a handful of lentils and caramelized onions and yogurt on top. It is the new rice dish in my list along with 'moros y cristianos' from the Cuban gastronomy and 'arroz con gandules' from Puerto Rican cuisine. It consists of beef and chicken shawarma with onions, sumac spice, and tahini. It's very flavorful and even when you think you're full, you will keep wanting more! What I love about this place is there's no frills, just good, authentic, and satisfying food. The service is fast...my order is usually ready within 15-20 minutes after I place my order. Tabbouleh was tasty, but 6 dollars for a 1 cup is a bit pricey. Chicken shawarma with rice had good flavor, but the chicken was a little dry. I think the chicken shawarma was about 16 or 17 dollars. There are things in Rosa J's life that she regrets. When she numerously passed by Hala In because she was making excuses for having a difficult day at work or just being tired, she made a conscious decision on skipping this wonderful place. From now on, there's no more going home...directly...Hala In has officially hooked her up! I don't know how many times I've passed back and forth while riding on the CTA 81 (Lawrence) bus. I'm now very mad at myself and keeping asking myself why I didn't try this place when I was given a plenty of opportunities. Being an avid yelper receives a number of benefits, including a small order of hummus on the house. It may sound very cliche, but their hummus is one of the best I've ever had. If you think many of those middle eastern eateries in downtown and in other Chicago neighborhoods have the best hummus, think twice. I challenge you! I also had the grilled tilapia. Wow, what a well-seasoned piece of fish! It also came with salad, rice, and grilled veggies on the side. Everything was delicious. Hubby's falafel platter, on the other hand, had fifteen (15) pieces of falafel! Yes, he counted for me in case I wanted to share this piece of information with you all. For $8.99, that wasn't bad at all. We also shared the Arabic coffee since neither of us tried it before. What a discovery! I'm now in love with this and can't get enough of it. Very decent quiet place to try out Mideastern cuisine. My favorite is the lamb shank, this is the best lamb I ever tried so far. I also liked grilled salmon. The portions are large and I either got to leave filled upon or with a box. The place is clean, your order may take time but I believe that's what it takes to serve you a great dinner. I live in the same building and the owner is a very nice man. The only disappointing thing is that the prices went up since I first dined there. If I'm not mistaken I paid $12 for the lamb shank in the August of 2013 and I thought that was ridiculously cheap. Now it's $17 and seems more adjusted. Lots of free parking along the street.
