Love the gelato here. Vanilla chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chip, mango, lemon, and mojito sorbet are my faves. Coffee is very good as well. Would give 4 stars for the gelato, no doubt, however the Reston location has a fruit fly problem which Mgmt needs to address. Went twice over the holidays and there are fruit flys flying all over. Saw at least 10 flying around. The obvious problem is you have no idea where these flies are getting into and how many are in the back. Please clean it up! read more

I consider myself a generous tipper. I'll tip on a bottle of water, but my visit today was the first time I've walked out feeling no remorse for not including any gratuity. The gelato is decent, but any silver lining here is quickly overshadowed by the abysmal customer service. After receiving my gelato I walked to the register and was ignored while not only waiting to pay, but while also watching my gelato melt in front of my eyes as numerous employees rung out multiple customers who were initially behind me. I'm not proud that I got frustrated, but after my initial plea went unheard the only way I could get them to acknowledge me was to sternly direct the cashier to ring me out and tell the customers who were cutting ahead to wait in line. I could've walked out without paying and nobody would have noticed, so I can only wonder how many people have done that very thing. Pitango was one of my favorite places to go as it offered dairy free yummy flavors like their chocolate one. I went this Spring of 2021 and noticed a big change in the recipes and I confirmed this with an employer that stated that the recipes had changed. Great flavors and best of all, it's always changing so theres always something new to taste. There's not much to say about their gelato - it tastes great, and its all natural. If i must complain about something, just to lengthen this review some, it would be their chocolate milk. Theirs is a European style and its very thick and decadent and.... ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING and made me physically sick to my stomach, also made my friend vomit. Seriously, he did! How did I only try this place recently?? Such sacrilege.....look at my user pic for heaven's sake! (which btw is an awesome tiramisu gelato...one of many as I ate my way through Italy) Considering the high standard for comparison, Pitango floored me. CHOCOLATE NOIR sorbet, you have stolen my hea....er, stomach. If you love dark chocolate this will be like crack to you. It's gotta be made with at least 60-70% cacao I think. Rich, decadent, just the right amout of bittersweetness, and delicately creamy. I usually stay away from sorbets in general because I find them too icy or sweet but this was absolutely perfect. I thought the first bite was heaven but then when I discovered slivers of actual dark chocolate lurking in the mix I think I could hear angels singing. The black tea gelato wasn't quite the same religious experience, but it was delicious in its own right and definitely warrants 5 stars. Pistachio and hazelnut, the other 2 flavors I tried, were just as well made but not as memorable personally. I'm more than willing to go back and give them a 2nd shot though ;) I work ~15 minutes away. I think I'm in trouble. read more

Wow! I came in when I saw the sign for hot chocolate, but had no idea that it was actually sipping chocolate, which is no measly step up. Really enjoyed that, although it was very filling. Having recently moved back to Reston with my husband, we are playing catch up and sampling newer local vendors. Last night we visited Pitango Gelato and I'm sad to say it took me so long to get here. We've been missing out. I ordered a small split with Cardamom and Spicy Dark Chocolate. My husband ordered a large with Bourbon Vanilla and Spicy Dark Chocolate. I was suffering from severe sweet tooth so I wasn't sure the small would completely satisfy my cravings. Half way through I was so happy I didn't let my eyes fool me. The portions are surprisingly filling! I LOVE gelato and have to say this was some of the best I have ever had. The cardamom was fabulous and exotic, with heavy spice. You could tell the actual seeds had been ground and added to the gelato. The chocolate was very dark and left a kick at the back of your throat as it melted. The bourbon vanilla I sampled from my husbands order was also decadent, but I would recommend not pairing it with something as bold as the spicy chocolate. While switching between the strong flavors you lost some of the subtle vanilla character- and it's worth savoring every bit. My only regret is not sampling half the menu and being able to eat more in one sitting. We'll definitely be rectifying that soon (but we may ride our bikes to offset our new favorite treat). read more

I admit to being addicted to this place. Considering that is probably the only Gelato place in NoVA, you have at least try it once, then twice, then again, etc... The flavors are plentiful, change once in a while, and they allow you to mix two of them (Quince anyone? First time I've seen it as a flavor). This place is really good! I've tried the hazelnut and espresso gelatos and the white grapefruit and passionfruit sorbets. I definitely have to say I like the fresh lightness of the fruity sorbets better than the actual gelato. The serving sizes look small but they really do fill up the cup and it ends up being a pretty filling serving. It's nice that you can get two flavors in one cup. This place is very cute and located in the Reston Town Center. But the gelato was very disappointing. I tasted several flavors but none were good enough to buy a cup . Store bought is better. My friend got three flavors: banana, espresso and crema. He didn't like it. My other friend ordered an Affogato, hot chocolate over gelato. She said it was "okay, nothing to write home about". Pitango gelato is damm good. Of course they let you try all the flavors and I always have a hard time deciding but you can never go wrong with hazelnut. There is plenty of seating usually and the staff has always been friendly the multiple times I've been. It is a little expensive though, probably because it is the only gelato place around but the prices are definitely hiked up about double what a normal gelato place has them at. Definitely a nice treat once in a while though. read more

Flavor was five star, but price and serving size bring it down. My wife grew up in Europe eating gelato, and we have had gelato around the world. Flavor wise this was great! I had cardamom, pistachio and almond (almond best of those) my wife had passion fruit, mojito and hazelnut. The passion fruit was excellent, very flavorful. The hazelnut wax perfect. A"large" cost $6.99 and the cup was not that big. Plus if you look at the bottom of the cup, it is indented more than usual, which makes the portion even smaller. read more

Very generous servings. Our grandson got a cone and they also put it in a cup. I could add more to the top of the cone as he ate it so it wasn't so messy. I had the chocolate noir. Oh wow! The best place - sadly - in Reston for coffee, why that is, is another matter. Tucked across the walkway from Mon Ami Gabi, I was first sent to Pitango Gelato by a waiter at Passion Fish, just down the way. I think PG has the only non-chain baristas in the area. The gelato is very good. I would prefer even richer, creamier texture and taste but this Pitango Gelato's is still a delightfully refreshing treat. The ordering que is confusing; sometimes there are two lines: one for coffee, and another for ice cream. But I've been called out once or twice by someone in the "ice cream" line for cutting into a coffee only order. The interior seating is disappointing; they clearly are not inviting you to stay and savor your coffee in the company of others...do they even have WiFi? A must, especially on a sunny day when you can sit outside. read more

So we reached this place at 10:04 PM on a Wednesday, assuming it's open till 11 pm (which are weekend hours, we forgot!) and door wasn't locked and we just went in. There was a guy and a girl who immediately told us that we're closed and we said sorry and were about to leave and I just said 'we thought you guys were open till 11, but it's okay we're sorry' So this nice guy said that it's okay we can serve you and we have so and so flavors available and me and my husband started choosing and suddenly this another girl comes from inside (assuming store manager) and says We Are Closed!! We were kind of zapped at this behavior which showed on our faces then she said we can serve you this time but for next time keep in mind we are closed at this hour and I just said we were leaving the first time itself so it's okay we don't want it now. I always loved coming here because of friendly and warm vibe of this place but looks like they turned colder than their gelato!! We were literally 4 minutes over their closing time and the door wasn't closed yet and with the looks of crowd around, it didn't seem close either. Moreover when two employees decided to be nice to us and serve us, the not so nice Manager could have been nicer and if she really wanted to remind us then she could have done it after serving us Politely!! I work in service industry too - not in Gelato industry - but sometimes we do go that extra mile to keep smiles on our clients' faces and not turn them away after one of our colleague decides to go a little extra mile.... Went there on a whim before they closed and the service was so nice and the GELATO WAS AMAZING! I had the local raspberry and the orange dark chocolate. They let you try flavors before you commit to buying a regular/large. (You can also combine two flavors in the regular which is so nice). My friends got the mojito flavor and I wish I would have too!
