This is my kind of pizza. It is NY style. I had the pepperoni slice, a small house salad and a drink for just under $10. Pizza is cheesy, a little greasy (yum!) and the crust is a bit crispy and flavorful. The only complaint I have is there are only a few little tables, no music and is more like a takeout joint. I am a total pizza snob and never expect to find anything out west that compares to NY pizza but I have to say bravo bravo bravo to this place. On 1/21/15 it was utterly dreadful. We'll never go back. Not busy, some drivethroughs, but we were only ones in "cafe". These people don't know how to use the space. Noisy, deafening, and there were only 2 of us and maybe 3 workers. CRASH CRASH with the pizza trays in the back; BANG BANG BANG when the hopelessly uninterested counter woman "cleaned" up around the front. At least the muzak wasn't too loud. TOTALLY different than the Pizza Centro by Regal on the South Side. We live near this one, so we walk. We gave up about a year ago because it is such an unpleasant atmosphere. Like eating in a factory, or a steamship boiler room (just guessing). But all that pathetic, unnecessary ambiance aside, the pizza was the WORST I've eaten in memory, at least for 10 years. It is hard to avoid eggplant at this place -- one of the saddest pizza menus I've ever seen in decades of pizza-eating. What is with the danged eggplant? So we always get the Chelsea, one of the few without eggplant that has a chance at some flavor. TERRIBLE! The crust on the bottom was sodden, and about 1/16" thick. I know they think they are doing NY pizza. No way! Been to NY many times; they should sue these clowns for fraudulent misrepresentation. The green peppers were like 6 slivers on a 16" pizza. Large swatches of cheese terrain. Where's the meat? Never again. We used to like the floppy pizzas there, with their pretentions to being New Yawk style, but this was the pits. Bad night? Maybe. But the noise from the crew is the same as it always is, and that space is hard, noise surfaces and someone needs to care about the customers ... or you will be out on your ear. The Design Center is a challenge, but the Cleopatra folks make it work, and so does the cut-rate reliable Chinese place (though they put those nasty little corn things in everything, without warning, almost like the forced eggplant regime at Pizza Centro). Never again. Never. Dreadful, awful. BTW, some pizzas are almost as good when you reheat them. Tonight, which reminded me of the horrid experience, there was nothing we could do with it. Sodden damp 1/16" crust, thin sliverettes of green pepper, a few random sausage bits -- I added about four slices of chunked pepperoni, so we had some flavor, but most of it had to be eaten with a fork. Almost required a spoon. Sad. "wet garbage" to quote from another (oddly positive) review. That says it, and unpleasant, even contemptuous workers, CRASH BANG CRASH. So, stick with Upper Crust, Backroad (though they've declined recently), Il Vicino, Pizza Centro Southside, Da Lino, Rooftop, or even one of the reliable chains (NOT Domino, no one should patronize them). But stay away from Pizza Centro north/Guadalupe. read more

Coming from north Jersey, I take my pizza very seriously. This may not be NY style pizza, but it is by far and away the closest you'll get here in town. The only reason why I wouldn't give a five-star rating would be due to the price. Any respectable pizzeria back east would also use quality and fresh ingredients, and their rent would likely be much higher than here in SF. So I don't really see a valid argument for the high prices, other than "everyone else is doing it", which doesn't sit well with me. read more

I cannot understand what the fuss is all about...we ordered two small pizzas and one Calzone....to make it short, the food was AWFUL. My mom's pizza with extra cheese (a nearly $2.00 upcharge...yes, $2 for extra cheese) was tasteless. My dad's pizza with jalapeno and tomato was $16!!! For a small pizza with about $.50 worth of vegetables....my Calzone was the WORST I ever ate...anywhere. There was some extremely hot nasty, pasty cheese that was simply gross and hot for the sake of just being hot and there was about $.60 worth of pepperoni...to be fair, I did gets LOADS of dough!!!!! WOO HOOOOO They claim New York Style Pizza...they should claim NY Style Pizza with NY pricing...two pizzas and one Calzone....$45...overpriced like everything else is in Santa Fe!!!!! The pizza was good with interesting combinations. However, eating out is also about service. And if you're a restaurant that accepts tips (as evidenced by a tip jar and a tip line on the cc receipt), you need to actually provide some service. Self-serve utensils and drinks doesn't cut it for $40 worth of pizza. When the counter person brought our pizza my friend asked for some silverware and she replied 'its over by the drink machine." The pizza is great; the calzone sucks. The owners falsely advertised both prices and availability. I went in for a slice of pizza and some sides of salad dressing at 4:30PM. They advertise that they sell slices to 5PM. There was no slices available at 4:30 and they had run out about 15 min. prior. They were not going to make more because the owners were not sure they could sell the whole pie in slices before 5 PM--so false advertising. They told me that unless I bought something else that the owners told them not to sell salad dressing separately. NOTE it is a separate item on the menu and you can buy a side of garlic bread without buying anything else. I then called the owners because they are almost never physically present. They never responded to my calls. It was an employee who took the initiative and he told me about not wanting to "waste" the slices and that Pizza Centro is not a grocery store so that is why they do not want to sell sides of salad dressing separately despite the menu listing. I should say I was going there about every eight days to buy pachettos (sandwiches made with pizza dough) or a salad. I was overcharged on the tax or they charge different prices than on the menu--another fraud. read more

Can't top Near R's long and both varied & in-depth pizza experience and raves for Pizza Centro but must say from a novice's standpoint that the pizza is very good - the place smells as a pizzeria should - high humidity, roasting peppers and chilies, yeast - and the 'Alphabet' pizza is worth the trip in itself (where ever you're driving from!) Pizza Centro also supports the local (Vista Grande) library with a percentage of gross several night's a year - so - very good pizza with excellent crust, and community support = a winning combination. read more

Since moving East 35 years ago I have traveled between Santa Fe and Brooklyn several times each year. As much as I enjoy New Mexican food and the Green Chile Experience, the occasional pizza always has a place in my diet. Two local pizza places have served me well over the years, but until Pizza Centro arrived, true New York pizza was not available. While some may prefer other styles or even chain offerings, Pizza Centro provides the real thing. A little expensive but that is hardly the point when the hot pizza arrives. The charming staff, the proximity to down town and the large selection of toppings as well as wine and other beverages make this a great spot. Pizza Centro in Eldorado has really great pizza and salads. I have had lots of pizza back east and in California and Pizza Centro compares well with both east and west coast pizza. I hope in the future they might try a whole wheat crust pizza. read more

The pizza's got a good crust (best feature), but, the price is waaaay out of whack. We ordered two (separate occasions) -- one basic cheese/pepperoni -- good, but very greasy (that may be OK with you -- we blotted). The other (artichoke, olive, mushroom and sausage) was good, with solid if not overly generous allocations of toppings. If the price were about 2/3 of what it was, I'd rave. As it is, too expensive for what you get. The crust is the winner here. Better value elsewhere -- even in NYC, you'd get this for less. No 'medium' -- only small, large and extra large. We needed a break from all the New Mexican food and this is just what the doctor ordered. The crust was light and thin and the toppings were numerous and flavorful. The peppers and onions on the "Chelsea" pizza could have been cooked more (they were basically raw with some browned ends) but the cheese and meats were awesome. The Caesar salad was pretty heavy on the anchovies and way heavy on the cheese, but we ate it all. I ordered two small pizzas, each to be baked at home, and arrived home with one wrong pizza. One of the employees immediately drove the correct pizza to our home (25 minutes away) with a gift card. I lived in New York City for a few years and I'm always on the look out for the kind of pizza I remember loving out there. Finally, my pizza prayers have been answered. I've stopped by a couple of times already and I enjoy the fact that I can just order a couple of slices. The crust has just the right amount of crunch and bite and I like the ratio of cheese to sauce. I haven't tried the salads yet (they do sound yummy) but I do have my eye on the calzone.
