It was fine. Got there at 6:30 on a tuesday night and the first table I sat down at wasn't wipe. Ok, probably just got off the dinner rush and grab the next table, also not wiped down. Family next to me finished their meal, took a while for the table to be bussed, not wiped down. Huh, alright. The first thing to note is they close at 10pm, I got there at 830pm and you could no longer sit inside. There is seating inside and I saw them cleaning, so they must have different hours on being able to sit and eat inside the restaurant. Not a big deal, just something to know. This pizza joint has been in business for many many years and definitely has an older feel to it. I did like the icicle lights draped around the kitchen area. Since we couldn't stay, I did a take out order. There were multiple people in the kitchen that just stared at us and I got the feeling they were very annoyed that we were placing an order, even tho their business hours say they are open till 10. A woman finally came over and took our order. My 7 year old son loves SpongeBob and noticed she had a SpongeBob decal on her shirt. He mentioned it and told her he liked it a couple of times and again she just seemed annoyed. This did not leave a good impression with me. Everyone just seemed more interested in cleaning up. I understand wanting to go home but at 830 there is still an 1.5 before you close, it's not like we walked in 5 minutes to close.... It took about 20 minutes to get our food, totally fine and we left. The garlic cheese bread did not really have a garlic flavor at all but I did like the flavor of cheese bread with the meaty dipping sauce. Tasted similar to something my grandma would make, and we liked it. Also the pieces of bread are HUGE! So 2 pieces was enough for us. I got a pepperoni pizza and a meat lovers pizza. Both were very good! The crust was the perfect Minnesota crust and the toppings were plenty! I was torn on whether to give this place 3 stars or 4 due to service... In the end the food was good. I'm willing to give them another try at a different time. And I'm hoping the poor service last night was just a one off. read more

We took a pepperoni and sausage pizza as a takehome to cook, and it was OK but nothing special. Actually, I was a little disappointed. Number one, they didn't have instructions on how to cook this. Second, the flavor was a little off. I felt like the tomato sauce was a little too sweet and the cheese wasn't soft like where you could stretch it across from one arm to the next. 2/5 Observation: they may be new to the "take and bake" pizza so you may have to give them a break as they fix and enhance this new concept. read more

Service was very good. Quiet restaurant as it seemed like people were mostly picking up their pizza so we basically had it all to ourselves at the time. My spaghetti was okay. Overall it wasn't bad. The outside looks like something out of a horror film so I was pleasantly surprised at how welcoming the staff was and how attentive they were. Maybe next time I'll try the taco pizza I somehow didn't notice they had! I'm disappointed in myself for missing that. Not something you see that often on menus! read more

A long time local favorite, the cheese toast is the best in town. The pizza is really good, wether you get the normal crust of deep dish, you should be happy with your decision. My parents have been going here since they moved to the neighborhood (2008) and we love this spot. We've never had a bad pizza from here, we've never had any issues with any takeout order, it's truly a neighborhood gem! I first ate at Pizza Flame the night we moved into our house in 1989. Since then we've stopped in a few times a year for thirty years. It was a nice place to have in the neighborhood, since it was an easy walk and who doesn't like pizza and beer? Well, I decided to walk there tonight and ... they no longer serve beer. The waitress told me "not since COVID." I don't know what that has to do with it except it sounds like an excuse--and I seem to recall having beer and pizza there last year. Anyway, this changes the value proposition. Previously, I could pay $25 and get beer and a pizza that was better than MOST frozen pizzas. Now I can pay $20 and drink water ... or drive to Aldi (their pizza IS better) and pay $7 and drink my own beer at home. The pizza landscape is pretty bleak in Coon Rapids in 2022. read more

I was hopeful the looks like it's been here since the 70's. I thought they would have to be good to stay in business. I may have ordered wrong at the recommendation of the waiter I tried the double crust and was not impressed. The service was fine and some reviews say the thin crust is better but I'm not a fan of the MN/WI cracker crust pizza I like more of a "one bite everyone knows the release" Portnoy NY style. read more

Great thin crust pizza and great service! I finally tried these guys out last night. We shared a large thin crust Meat Lover's Pizza and it was very good. We also enjoyed talking to our server, who was very friendly and happened to be a family member of the owner. According to the staff, Pizza Flame uses the same pizza sauce as Mansetti's. I believe this because to my taste, the pizza tastes nearly identical to Mansetti's pies. And that's good...because I love Mansetti's Pizza too. I'm glad I stopped by. Ordered the Large House on Traditional Thin Crust Pros: perfect crust, proportioned well, great texture, cooked perfectly, served immediately out of the oven. You can tell the cooks have experience. Cons: too salty, not enough cheese on the outside pieces, the sausage tasted like old meat, the sauce lacked flavor (other than saltiness). Our family used to eat here back in the early 90's. It was our 2nd favorite pizza place, 2nd to Tasty Pizza. This experience was a bit of a letdown. Don't get me wrong, the pizza is still very good, however, if we are to wait an hour and fifteen minutes I believe we should have been warned, give us a time frame, any time frame. This past week, we ordered Pizza Flame pizza for my boyfriend's birthday. We purchased a large Hawaiian pizza and a medium House pizza. We picked the order up at Pizza Flame, and the order was all ready for us. The boy who was our cashier looked terrified. I don't know if Pizza Flame was a new job for him or he's just very shy, but he looked hesitant with every single move he made. I gave the kid the benefit of the doubt, but he barely made a peep when he interacted with us. As the money transaction was happening, I observed the inside of the place and let me tell ya, it was run down. The management here definitely needs to update their interior because it is old. I was told that they have booths with ripped seating as well. I'm sure they make a lot of money based on how popular their pizza is, but it isn't exactly showing when it comes to the layout of the place. It sure could use some updates and this is my reasoning for knocking off one star. Regardless of the interior, the pizza was delicious. I had never had Pizza Flame before and can't wait to eat some more. I probably could've eaten an entire large pizza by myself. The large and medium pizzas were not that much different in size, so if you're looking to save a couple bucks, buying a medium for a group wouldn't be a bad idea. I was sold on their thin crust. I liked how the outskirts of the pizza were crispy and the thin crust along with the melty cheese on top left me speechless. We practically inhaled both pizzas. I'm usually impartial to Hawaiian pizza, but it tastes so good here! Flavor in every bite and being that they cut the pizza into small squares, you end up feeling like you could eat 50+ squares before you're full. I wouldn't want it any other way. I'm planning on trying the chicken alfredo pizza next time I visit! I heard they have plenty of other unique options too if you like to get creative with your pizza. Even though this was my first time here, I was really liked this place. Not only the decor, but the food as well. I have to say, I am really liking the cool retro 1970s look. I really feel I am going back in time, and yet the is one of the best tasting pizza places in town. I really like how they take their time with making a pepperoni and Canadian bacon pizza. The pizza is so good. I always get the Buffalo chicken thin crust. Best I have ever had. More expensive than your typical pizza but it's worth it for the taste and quality. Highly recommended! Edit 12/19/17: We tried the shrimp Alfredo yesterday and it was not very good at all. Bland with tiny pieces of shrimp- not very authentic. I'd honestly recommend the lean cuisine Alfredo over this. BUT the pizza is still really good. We will just continue with the pizza moving forward. Edit 6/22/18: Ordered take out on Father's Day (one pizza) and they said it would take half hour. I showed up about 30-35 minutes later. The 16 year old at the counter said it'll be one moment which is fine. She then said three minutes later to take a seat as it'll be a little bit before someone can get to me. Umm no thanks I'm a grown man I'm fine standing. She then asked for last name and provided that and that I had called about 30 or so minutes ago. She looks around and says, it'll be about 20 minutes. I asked if they even started the pizza and she did not. Had her cancel the order. Very disappointed and will no longer be coming here even if the pizza is decent. Pizza Flame does what they do very well, I crave the taste whenever I get cross 694 into the Northern Burbs. I don't think there is a name for the style of pizza they make, I haven't seen it anywhere else. It's a fantastic, greasy, paper thin pizza, made fresh, cooked in a stone oven and cut in mostly bite sized squares. It does get a little soggy in the middle, cause the crust is so thin it can't hold back the cheese and grease.....mmmmmm.....the crust actually becomes part of the goo, instead of holding it up. Soooo good. If you don't like it soggy, order it well done. It keeps it crisp in the middle and adds a bit of a burnt flavor to the za. The Double Crust (just 2 thing crusts rolled together) will also alleviate this "problem" The Deep Dish is also unique, but really this place is about the thin crust. I miss you Pizza Flame, I'll see you next year when I make it back to town. read more

Horrible, HORRIBLE service. A waitress walked past our table 5 or more times before we finally decided to ask for menus because no one was helping us. We had been sitting for at least 20 mins and the waitress was basically helping one table at a time instead of multi-tasking. She said she thought a different waitress had our table. We sat for another 15 mins and I had to ask for her to take our order. My family used to come here all the time growing up and the pizza is great, but this is bad. It's hard to upset me on the service side of things because I used to serve and am extremely easy going.. but this is terrible. read more

I was there tonight and ordered a 10" thin crust pizza with 3 toppings. Sausage, black olives, and onions. The bill with tax was 17.00. The toppings were so sparse that it was pathetic. Avoid this place if possible: I certainly will. I would've been much better off to buy any frozen pizza from the convenience store next door, and cook it at home. read more
