When I walked into the Jersey Mike's on Baltimore National Pike, there were three employees at the front. One young woman was cleaning the sandwich preparation area while the other two employees, a young woman and a young man were standing nearby. A fourth employee was in the back grilling and wasn't involved in what happened. I stood at the ordering counter for several minutes without anyone acknowledging me. It wasn't an incredibly long wait, but it was certainly long enough that I began wondering if I should just leave. During that time, no one said, "We'll be right with you," or even acknowledged that I was standing there. Then another customer walked in and was greeted almost immediately. Only after that did one of the young women ask if she could help me. She was standing near the register, so I walked over to her and placed my order. As I was standing by the register giving my order, the young woman who had been cleaning stopped what she was doing and walked back to the ordering counter where I had originally been waiting. She asked, "Can I help someone?" as though I hadn't already been standing there and placed my order. I walked back over to the ordering area, and she had me repeat my entire order from the beginning, even though I had just placed it moments earlier while she was standing only a few feet away. The interaction was extremely confusing and unlike anything I've experienced at a restaurant before. More than anything, it made me feel genuinely uncomfortable. At that point, I asked to speak with the manager, hoping he would listen to my concerns and help me understand what had happened. Unfortunately, his response felt apathetic and dismissive. There was no apology or attempt to understand why I felt so uncomfortable. In fact, he initially wanted to direct me back to the ordering area when I said (as he had been standing right there) I've already ordered. I was sharing a situation that Indidnt understand. When I asked for mayonnaise on the side, he simply tossed a packet into the bag. The entire interaction left me with the impression that he wasn't interested in my concern or issue. The one bright spot was the young woman who originally took my order and handled my payment. She was kind, apologetic, and even gave me a discount. I genuinely appreciated her professionalism and empathy. She was the only employee who made me feel like my concerns mattered. By the time I left, the experience had completely taken away my appetite. I ended up throwing the sandwich away without eating it and went somewhere else for dinner. This review isn't about waiting a few minutes. It's about how a customer is made to feel. A simple acknowledgment when I walked in, clear communication among the staff, and a manager willing to listen could have completely changed my experience.
