I used the TooGoodToGo app to places these 2 orders. Didn't know what to expect, but there was no parking to pick up the pizza. I had to double park in front of a grocery store, and go to the back. Then there's a guy ready to check my app, and he gave me my 2 orders. Luckily I asked him how to bake this at 450 for 8 mins. Whole process might have taken me 5 mins. It's turned out really good. I've been to Pizza Matador several times now to grab their frozen pizzas through the TooGoodToGo app, and they've all been great! The dough is chewy and satisfying, and the ingredients always taste fresh, definitely way better than your average frozen pizza. I've tried both their veggie and meat options, and both were solid. $7 for each 12inch pizza, what a deal! They sell half-baked pizzas, so you just finish them off at home. Super easy, and the end result is delicious. Pickup is inside The Food Mill, which also carries a bunch of natural supplements and health products. Street parking is usually available, though they do have a tiny lot if you're lucky. read more

For a follow-up review, I picked Pizza with an ingredient I usually hate and buy it from their website, it was a self-hate experiment, getting one with fruit on it. I absolutely, positively hate fruit on a Pizza, a friend who loves the Hawaiian Pizza with Pineapple asks me to eat the pizza... it is just impossible to visualize a Pizza with Pineapple. I always bring one with ingredients I like and is usually accepted by a vast majority of Pizza lovers. There is never any fruit in them. I was in a bad mood and willing to "hurt myself" with foods I don't like, btw, there are plenty of Oakland, Berkeley "restaurants" that serve subpar food but with an attitude, but that is another review I won't write. Anyway, I ordered a veggie Pizza with figs on them. Apparently figs have a short season and these fine pizza folk decided to use them. I am sorry to say, it was a dang good Pizza. Especially with a Shiraz or a Zinfandel wine. Who knew? I'll try one more and hope the first one was an accident, and it is bad so I can exclude fruit from Pizzas once and for all. Finally, a pizza restaurant near my house that makes authentic Italian pizza! The dough is superb, due to their technique. The fermentation does something with the gluten that makes it so easier to digest and makes the dose so light and fluffy. I got the salsiccia, and was not at all disappointed. The sausage was very high-quality and quality of the pizza in general made me think of Italy. I love that the pizza is delivered and butcher paper and not a box. I ordered a vegitarian pizza from the TooGoodToGo app. and it looked so good i couldn't wait to go home and bake it. They suggested an oven temp. of 475° for about 8 minutes. I used my pizza stone which gave it a really even bake. At eight minutes my cheese was melted, but the crust was not browning so I went another five minutes. Turned out great! The cheese was stringy with a snsp to it. The red tomato sauce had a rich, fresh flavor and there were generous amounts of artichoke heart. The crust was crispy, but not too chewy. In life, everyone should get a second chance. After I posted my 3-star review, Chris H. emailed me and suggested I might of undercooked my pizza. He asked me to try their pizzas again, and i agreed. So I went out and bought a 16" pizza pan, since I didn't have the right pan to bake pizzas. So, I preheated my pizza pan in the oven at 450*F for 15-minutes. Then I slid the Trad Pie on it, and baked it for 7-9 minutes. The result was a pizza with a golden crust, and loads of rich flavor. It's still a thin crust pizza, but the rich flavor makes it a good choice for a "ready-to-bake" at home pizza. Also, for anyone still undecided whether to try these pizzas......this isn't a ghost kitchen. Pizza Matador operates from a commercial kitchen in Oakland's Dimond District. In operation since 2015, they use their own drivers so there's no added fees. They offer a wide variety of pizzas, and they're worth a try. read more

This has been an upsetting experience. I have ordered so many of these Pizza's and have shared this with other friends that have also ordered. One friend did not like the Pizza and I bought it off her after she threw the rest in the garage. She received a 50 dollar coupon which she gave to me. Then I received an email from Chris that this coupon was for my friend and that it is ok that I had used it if I get her to change her review!!!!! I am still in shock and I am writing this from Switzerland actually... Threatening customers to change reviews and make them feel uncomfortable is not how it is done . A friend brought me a mozzarella and a mushroom pizza. Now that I have tried this, I am wondering how a half baked pizza wasn't a thing before! You don't need preservatives and because you finish it yourself in your oven at home, you can eat piping hot. This is the best take-out or delivery pizza in the East Bay, imo. We've been ordering from them for years. It's in league with the best fancy-restaurant pizzas. You just order right from their website, it's delivered partial-baked and you finish it yourself. You have to follow the cooking directions but they're clear. Since you finish the baking at home, it's piping hot when you eat it. When you order from the website you can get the pizza within 20 minutes OR order ahead and select a delivery time slot. You get the best selection when you order early and if you order before 2pm, there's a discount. If you order multiples, there's a discount (they freeze really well). They have rotating seasonal specials (fig!!!!!). It's a thin crust and not overloaded, so you have to like that style. The ingredients are super fresh, the crust is a 48-hour ferment, and the packaging is minimal, eco, and elegant. And they always have excellent vegetarian choices. I discovered Pizza Matador thanks to a reco from our local listserv and we have been very impressed by the quality of the ingredients and fine customer service! Ordering from the website is fast and easy, and I recently recommended Pizza Matador to someone who was looking for a slow-fermented crust (THE BEST KIND) on one of the local food forums. DO ORDER EARLY - they do sell out. This isn't like Domino's or Round Table - this is an artisanal product, and well worth it. These are pre-baked, so you finish them off in a preheated oven for about 10 min (upper rack, please; no pan if you want a crispy crust). They also now sell plain crusts in pairs, so you can top it with your own fixings. We are on a low-salt diet, so we prefer the plain cheese/white styles. The other toppings they offer are excellent (if a little salty for us), and their tomato sauce is very tasty (and lightly applied; we like that style). If you live within their delivery area, TRY THEM. Well worth it! read more

We have ordered from Pizza Matador 4-5 times now and are happy repeat customers! No, it's not cheap, but it is a special treat because we are getting top-notch, quality ingredients on a lovingly made pizza without having to leave the house! I followed the pizza stone instructions and preheated the stone in a 475F oven for 30 minutes before throwing our pizza on there for 8 minutes. It came out with a bubbly, crispy, airy crust with beautifully blistered spots and a juicy center that was not as all soggy on the bottom. Our last pie was the Niner pie, that I embellished with some finely diced bell pepper and freshly grated parm. I'm still dreaming about it. We had a salad with it, and it was a perfect dinner for two. We are equally enamored of Zachary's Chicago style deep dish, so we can go both ways. I got the Pizza Matador from Food Mill on Macarthur blvd.The guy had a bunch of pizzas in containers, Just sitting inside the door in a chair! I didn't finish cooking It, I just got it & placed it inside my the car and went to Dominoes! For $11 it was super small and plain. Hopefully it tastes good! Tasty but small. I paid $27.50 for a 12" thin crust pizza. That's like paying almost $50 for a regular large 16" based on total square inches. (I'm not counting the additional $9 delivery/tip charges). This just doesn't compare well value wise to the equally high quality from Cheeseboard, Arizmendi, etc. If price is no object and you're ok paying $37 with delivery and tip for a pizza that will barely feed two hungry people, then this is a high quality option. read more

I just ordered my first pizza from PM and it won't be my last. What I appreciated even more than the delicious pizza was the super-streamlined customer experience. The online menu was straightforward, the ordering was simple, and there was up-to-the-minute tracking of my delivery available online. Last, but certainly not least, the time between deciding I wanted pizza tonight and receiving the pizza delivered to my doorstep was approximately 20 minutes. As for the pizza: it was delicious! I do notice that I don't feel gross after eating almost half of a cheese pizza, which I'm assuming has something to do with this special, fermented crust they tout. Also, unlike most cheese pizza, it was (surprisingly) not swimming in grease. They seem to have found sharp enough cheeses to provide good flavor without requiring a boatload to be tasty. I will also note that the toppings didn't seem stingy, just well-balance. I'm kind of a stickler for good crust, and good topping:crust ratio too, and this pizza delivered on both fronts. Pizzas are decently sized, par baked, packaged not in boxes, but wrapped well in paper so less to recycle, and several flavor choices. We ordered on a Sunday at about 4:30 and flavors like pepperoni were sold out. But we were happy with the sausage pizzas we were able to get. We got some extra cheese pizzas to freeze. I preheated the oven while the pizzas were en route and they came out perfect and hot at dinner time. The kids were thrilled. I highly recommend this pizza. read more
