Friday night dinner during our staycation. We came at around 7:30pm and was seated right away, albeit in a table tucked way in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is long with big windows to enjoy the harbor view, but unfortunately we were seated in one of the few tables without a nice window. For food, we ordered a large pizza that is half goat cheese and half BBQ chicken, a house salad, and also fettuccine Alfredo at our son's request. Despite this being a pizza restaurant, the pizza was only so-so, which is disappointing. My son said the pasta was also just so-so, but the salad was pretty good, and the small portion was enough for two. The restaurant was a bit dated, at least it was in the back corner where we sat. We were there in time for happy hour and enjoyed the buffalo cauliflower starter, apple martinis, and for our dinner we tried two different 10" pizzas. How has it been THREE YEARS since I updated my review last?! On this visit my parent's and I took my kiddos to dinner to enjoy the views of Pizza Nova over some yummy garlic knots and food. Hooray, the Garlic Knots are still made hot & fresh and complimentary! I am always so tickled when they bring an actual portion to the table, enough for everyone! This trip our table kept our drink orders to water, no cocktails. Although the cocktail menu looked yummy. My parent's stuck with their favorites - Spicy Chicken Wrap and the Nova Chicken Club. Both were hefty portions and still tasted as good as remembered. On this trip I mixed it up and ordered The Best House Salad with chicken and no cheese. Still tasty after all these years! My kiddos were thrilled to see pizza on the kid's menu. So they had the cheese pizza and the pepperoni pizza (see photos). They are so flavorful and fluffy. Althoough we ordered a basic pepperoni pizza, it was still really good. The crust and cheese were perfect and had a great taste. The pasta put it over the top and the basil and tomato made the dish that much better.All dishes are family style so you can definitely share. We had three in our party and had plenty of food and even had enough to go. We were eager to revisit the place, and we came back on an early Friday afternoon. The place was still bustling. Our waitress didn't come by for about 10 minutes, brought us water and left us a drink menu, promised to be right back to take our orders and then disappeared for another 15 minutes or so. We finally saw her again, taking orders for another table, and then she finally came back to us. We ordered drinks, garlic knots, and a prosciutto gorgonzola tomato pizza. Unfortunately, the pizza came out first and the garlic knots a few minutes later (both brought out by another server) but they forgot our drinks. Our server eventually came out asking how everything was, and we had to remind her about the drinks. And then we had to ask a couple times for a box. We love the food here, but service seems to be hit or miss. The first visit was a solid 5-star experience which made us eager to come back. While on vacation in San Diego, I was looking for a good lunch spot, and this place was perfectly located right on the harbor. Not only did we get a beautiful view of all the boats, but it was also conveniently close to many of the local hotels. Their lunch specials are just $16 and include a fresh salad plus your choice of pizza or pasta, with plenty of combinations to choose from. I went with their sausage and mushroom pizza paired with a Caesar salad, and it was absolutely delicious. Every meal comes with their amazing garlic knots, which were warm, buttery, and downright addictive. Our sweet waitress even brought my son a free chocolate milk, which completely made his day. There's plenty of free parking in their lot, just be sure to look for the signs that say "Pizza Nova 2-hour parking." Firstly, the complimentary garlic rolls were delicious. They were garlicky, oily and cheesy. The rest of the food however, we found to be mostly mediocre. We ordered their fish and chips entree as well as the roasted tomato, arugula and prosciutto wood fired pizza. The fish was bland, but the fries were well seasoned and crispy. The pizza had fresh ingredients, but the lemon olive oil overpowered everything else. Personally, I think it would have helped if the prosciutto was slightly cooked. My daughter ordered their "build your own pizza." She chose pepperoni and cheese for her toppings. She was disappointed to find out that she doesn't actually get to build her own pizza, as in put the ingredients together, but rather, just order the toppings. She thought the pizza was tasty though. For my beverage, I ordered an old fashioned. After my first one, I asked the waiter if it was made with Maker's because it tasted of just, well whiskey. I was assured it was made with Maker's. The second one I ordered, tasted as if it was made with Maker's. What a mystery. We paid $126.06 with tip. Pizza Nova may not be on the top of our list, but there is a chance we would make a return visit; maybe we'll find something on the menu that will surprise us. read more

The ambiance here is warm with a home vibe. It's cute seeing the pizza paddles on the walls and some of the Italian-inspired artwork. It isn't a huge place, so it's best to make reservations. Parking can be tight if you have an SUV but they do have free 2-hour parking for Pizza Nova guests. We came here to celebrate my belated birthday with some friends and started with the calamari, which was fine but nothing to write home about. It was crispy, lightly seasoned, and served with a tangy dipping sauce, but overall, it didn't stand out as a standout dish. However, the Salmon Crostini was an entirely different experience. The crispy sourdough crostini paired perfectly with the rich, fresh salmon, and the subtle flavors of the goat cheese and pesto and herbs were just spot on. This was a highlight--fresh, flavorful, and a great start to the meal. My absolute favorite! For our entrees, we shared a few dishes. The Pepperoni Sausage Pizza was by far the winner of the evening. The crust had a satisfying crunch, and the balance between the zesty pepperoni and savory sausage was perfect. The cheese was melted to perfection, and the sauce had just the right amount of tang without overpowering the toppings. It definitely stole the show. The Thai Chicken Pizza came in as a close second. It had an interesting flavor profile with the spicy, sweet, and tangy combination of the Thai-inspired sauce, topped with juicy chicken and fresh veggies. While it didn't quite top the Pepperoni Sausage, it was still delicious and unique. Oh and warning - if you have an aversion to cilantro (like I do), make sure you ask your server to 86 cilantro otherwise, your pizza will taste soapy. xD Desserts were a bit of a letdown. The Lava Cake wasn't as rich and dense as you'd expect. Instead of that molten, gooey center, it was more like a fluffy cake that lacked the deep chocolatey sweetness that defines a classic lava cake. I don't know if it wasn't great because it was flourless, or if it just wasn't great, period. It didn't have the indulgence you'd crave after a pizza dinner. As a chocoholic and self-proclaimed lava cake addict, I was pretty bummed. The vanilla gelato ice cream was just mid, too. Similarly, the Crème Brûlée was disappointing. It had a very mild, almost overly-eggy flavor without much of the sweetness you'd hope for in this dessert. It felt like they forgot to add the vanilla extract and sugar. The custard was a bit too soft, and the expected caramelized sugar top didn't add enough of the expected contrast. It lacked the richness and complexity that would make it memorable. And most importantly, they didn't torch the top, so I don't even know if there was sugar on top! My friend stabbed it thinking she was going to crack a hard sugary shell topping, and it was just soft like pudding. Either they forgot to add sugar and torch it, or it just isn't Crème Brûlée. It was definitely more like a sugarless egg pudding. I don't recommend their desserts. The Tres Jugos Margarita was delicious, with a nice balance of tangy and sweet citrus flavors. The only downside was the price $16--at its size, it felt like it didn't quite deliver value for money. I think it was an 8-10 oz. little cup and with all that ice, yeah you're not getting a lot. But if you're looking for a refreshing drink to accompany your meal, this one definitely hit the mark. TLDR: Pizza Nova shines with its pizza and appetizers, especially the Salmon Crostini and Pepperoni Sausage Pizza. While the desserts and the pricing on some items could use a bit of work, the meal as a whole is enjoyable, especially for anyone craving a well-executed pizza with a creative twist. If you're in the mood for great pizza and a solid drink, this place is definitely worth checking out. And if you're just visiting San Diego for a quick trip or layover, Pizza Nova is really close to the San Diego International Airport! I've always had a great experience here, and the food is consistently good, which is why what happened tonight was completely unexpected and extremely upsetting. I am a local customer and have been to this location many times, including a couple of times with my service animal, without any issues. There is also posted signage stating that service animals are accepted. Tonight, I was immediately told by a staff member named Serena that I would not be seated because she saw I had a dog. Her stated reasoning was that a different dog had recently bitten a customer, and because of that, she said animals were no longer being allowed. When I explained that my dog is a service animal, I was still refused seating and questioned as to why my dog was not wearing a vest. Service animals are not required to wear vests and are not in the same category as pets. This occurred before the hostess could seat me. My service animal was effectively punished for the actions of another customer's dog. This situation could have been handled professionally and respectfully. Instead, it was handled in a rude and dismissive manner and constitutes discrimination against a person with a disability. Please educate Serena so that when we return or when another guest with a service animal visits, she understands the difference between a service animal and a pet and handles the situation appropriately. Because of how this was handled, I will be raising this concern further. read more

It has the feel of a place you'd stumble upon while walking along a pier. We were just visiting San Diego with the kids and stopped in as part of our trip. Honestly, I don't see us coming back. The experience was bland and forgettable, and I'm sure there are better pizza places to try next time we're in town.
