Truly a palace of pizza! It's pizza royalty! We enjoyed the pan cheese and the pan buffalo chicken pizza! Great and consistent pizza.

I generally only get the Eggplant grinder because it's that good.

We are not often in Middletown, but we will definitely be back. This is a great place to stop, and I 10000% recommend it. Of course, I had the gluten-free veggie pizza, and I added pineapple because I am a pineapple-on-pizza person. Sue me, I am an islander. My partner had the shrimp pizza, not gluten-free, and ordered a medium. The size was honestly obscene for a medium. He kept asking to drive back down there every day after because he wanted it again. Definitely returning.

They do offer a free lot in the back, but judging by all the cars, Mondo is very popular on a Friday evening. Sure enough, there was a big line of people picking up orders, but we walked right in and were seated immediately. We started off with a beet salad, which was surprisingly delicious, combining candied walnuts and sweet orange and green apple slices with salty feta and tangy balsamic over a mountain of mixed greens. We then moved on to paninis, generous portions of meat and toppings on freshly baked, crispy bread. One of us chose more mixed greens tossed with dressing while the other chose crunchy French fries. We also ordered a third panini to go, the Mondo combo. We asked for fries; the kitchen accidentally gave us a salad. Our server, Heather N., saved the day by noticing the error and giving us both side orders. Mondo is family friendly, and there were plenty of children during our visit. As such, the volume was a tad loud and boisterous, but nothing obnoxious that would prevent us from returning.

Sally's Apizza offers some great pizza, but has some major issues in what should be the highlight…read moreof a coal fired pizza. The tomato pie has a nice sauce with a strong tomato flavor. I enjoyed the tomato pie more than I thought I would but a pizza with cheese on it would have been better. The summer special pizza, shrimp scampi was fabulous. The shrimp wasn't too chewy and the garlic works so well on the pizza. This is an absolute favorite of everyone in our party. My biggest issue with both pies is the crust edges are overcooked. I like some char but there is just too much that it just tastes bad. I almost never throw out the crust of a pizza but I had to do it for almost every slice here. Great pizza, but not necessarily a must have.

The tomato and moz pie was everything I wanted out of this New Haven specialty. Charred, light, and cracker-like crust met with bright fresh tomato sauce and a thin layer of baked in cheese that combines into one flat unit of tasty. The shrimp scampi pie took it in a different direction. As more of a white style of pizza, the topping of shrimp, confit garlic, onion , and lemon made for a scrumptiously bright and oceanic apizza pairing nicely with the smokey, charred wood fired base. Walking out with black dusted fingertips was a badge of honor! Service: We got here on a weekend before 11 and had to wait approximately 30 min to be seated and then 35 min to get our apizzas after ordering. The wait staff was so nice and excited it was my first time. Ambiance: Unapologetically historic and classical. You come here for the storied past and great food. Don't forget to run to the bathroom and catch a glimpse of their glorious wood ovens making magic.
