Worth the hype for sure! We got three Large pizzas: the Mozzarella & Tomato Sauce Pie, New Haven Original Clam Pie, and Basil Burrata. It was perfect for 5 people. All had thin crispy crusts with a nice char. Wonderful, varied flavors between the pizzas. We also got the Gassosa and White Birch Beer (non-alcoholic). The Gassosa tasted like a more natural Sprite whereas the Birch Beer tasted like licorice. We were the last ones to enter at around 8:50. +1 for our server for comping our drinks too!

Stopped by this place for lunch and tried the potato rosemary with bacon and the Calabrian stinger pizza. The Calabrian definitely was the better of the two pizzas with great flavor. The potato pizza was ok. It just a little lighter than what I usually prefer since I like pizzas with more bold flavors and meat. Really like the pizzas overall the service was excellent and the food came out in about 10 minutes. Definitely recommended this spot, it's easily in my top 5 pizza places in New Haven.

Came here with a group of 5 during my first trip to Connecticut for work, and it was a great introduction to a local New Haven pizzeria. We arrived right as they were about to open and were seated immediately, which was much appreciated since the place was busy--people waiting outside in line to get a seat the whole time we were there. Service was friendly and efficient throughout the meal. We ordered the mozzarella and tomato pie, the potato and rosemary pie, and the cannoli pie for dessert. The mozzarella and tomato pie was classic and delicious with fresh flavors, while the potato and rosemary pie was an interesting combo. Super crispy, savory, and something different. The cannoli pie was a good sized, shareable slice a great way to end the meal. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that everything was very good, but not quite mind-blowing. Still, definitely worth visiting since the dine-in vibe was so chill and full of history.

Pepperoni mushroom with half hot cherry peppers...amazing!

One of my favorite pizza places and it is rich in history. The crust is excellent thin crust with a slight char from the coal fired oven. The first bite bends off the slice, but after that bite, it's crunchy and firm. The sauce is the standout here as the pie has covered and then the toppings follow. It is not over cheesed so I you like it that way, you will have to specify. The pepperoni cups as it should as they collect the flavorful oils. The cherry peppers have a decent amount of spice and the mushrooms are fresh. They do have pepper flakes, oregano, and Parmesan on the side. Expect to wait in line unless you get there before opening time. They also have a parking lot for Sally's customers only.

Came to town for work and had to try the holy trinity of pizza, this was stop 2. Now compared to the others, I think this was favorite. I waited on a Tuesday night around 6:30 for about 45 minutes in the freezing cold 40 degree weather with no jacket. It was so worth the wait. Pizza I opted for was the half meatball & hot cherry peppers and also the original. It was so good, lots of flavor and tasted with nice char underneath. The original was good, but I needed to dress it with parm cheese, garlic and oregano. I did that after I tried a slice without it. It was still really good. 9.5/10. I washed it down with the white birch beer and finished with the cannoli cake. You have too. But the cannoli cake here, good, wasn't my fav. The one at FP was better. But hands down my fav pizza spot in NH. The staff was nice and efficient with serving me. Wait the 45 minutes... even in the freezing cold. It's worth it.

- Another popular pizza spot with a small private lot that's almost always full; when we arrived at 3:45pm on Pi Day 2026, there was already a line of customers outside--we ended up waiting about 40 minutes to be seated - Smaller establishment with booth-style tables lining both sides of the restaurant; a bit tight, but not uncomfortable - Amazing staff--very friendly and attentive throughout our meal; kept us updated on the status of our pies and contributed to a genuinely happy, fun atmosphere - Pizzas were very good--served hot and fresh with a thin, chewy crust, though ours had a touch more char than we prefer; mozz and tomato pie had a nicely tangy sauce; original clam was loaded with tender chopped clams, though it was a bit light on that briny clam flavor

Friends so wanted to check this place out, so I joined the adventure. Great Spot, Pie and Server Service. Well Worth it.

I had really high expectations since this was apparently one of the famous pizza places in New Haven. The online ordering was easy and I got a meatball pizza and a salad. There was a line, so I was glad I ordered online and everything looked good and was very hot. I would say the pizza just overall lacked flavor. The edges were almost burnt as well. While the size of the small pizza was really large, the flavor just wasn't there. The salad was honestly better.

I got a small basil burrata ($22) and it was ready for takeout after 45 mins. The pizza was thin, saucy and delicious. The crust had a good char and the tomato sauce was sweet. The oil and cheese mixed really well together. This was definitely the best pizza crust/dough texture I've had on a pizza! Definitely understand the hype when it comes the pizza in this area! Overall fantastic pizza!

Sally's Pizza - New Haven, CT We waited in line for about 30 minutes, and honestly, it was totally worth it! I've tried pizza all around Connecticut, and I have to say--this one is definitely my favorite so far. We grabbed the classic mozzarella and also tried the baked potato slice. While the baked potato was interesting, I definitely preferred the classic cheese--it's just that good. Highly recommend if you're in the area and don't mind a short wait for some seriously amazing pizza.

I finally tried Sallys! What an experience it was! Recently, I did a pizza tour in New Haven for my birthday. Sally's was our second stop. We came in the afternoon mid February and had maybe a 30 minute wait outside. They certainly have a system down. Once seated, we decided to have some of Sallys very own red wine. It was better than I expected! We had to try the traditional Apizza with no toppings and boy it did not disappoint! The rich but not sweet sauce was one of the best I've ever had. My fiance rated Sallys as his top of our pizza tour. It was certainly at the top of my list too! Make sure to peak at all of the pics of the famous people that have stopped in Sallys. It was an experience to remember and the pizza is top notch!

Whether im staying nearby or driving through this is a must stop. The tomato pie is to die for. It has the right amount of acidity and tartness to go with the crispy thing crust. Its a favorite for me and my family.

THE GOOD ---------------- + Some of the best pizza out there, ANYWHERE! ++++ Small Mozzerella and Tomato Pie - If you like your pizza on the charred side and super duper crispy, you'll love this! Their signature pie is as thin, crispy and delicious as it gets with its tangy, tomato flavor. ++++ Small New Haven Original Clams Pie - Solid. Can't say it's on the level of a Pepe's clam pie, but still flavorful. Love the coal oven char on it and razor thin crust. ++++ House Salad - Was very simple with romaine lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onion, shaved parmesan and Italian vinaigrette, but it was perfect and jussst what we needed before devouring 2 small pies. + Service was TOP, TOP notch all around and as welcoming as there is anywhere. ++++ ALL of the employees were very courteous and you can tell by their friendly demeanors that they absolutely loved doing their jobs there. This is not an exaggeration at all. Every waiter was REALLY, REALLLLY friendly. ++++ Our waiter saw me taking photos of their kitchen and offered to ask his boss to let me get closer to their coal oven for pics ... AND his boss immediately brought me closer to the action and opened the piping hot oven just for me! Then he engaged in convo with me even though it was extremely busy. To say that I was appreciative of their hospitality is an understatement. + Old school interior, but much more spacious than I expected with plenty of booths inside - in fact, all of the tables are booths. + Private parking lot to the side of the restaurant had plenty of turnover in spots constantly, so it was super easy to find parking in there. However, I'm sure as it gets closer to peak dining times, it could get jam-packed. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Nada. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Nada. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = We came by on a chilly March Saturday afternoon and hopped on the line at 3:40 PM and, surprisingly, didn't have to wait until our hair had turned gray! Despite the line being about 25-30 people deep, we ONLY waited a manageable 40 minutes, although there were probably about 6-7 parties ahead. CONCLUSION -------------------- = If you come here on a weekend, it's best to visit during "off-peak" times if you don't want to wait an eternity - meaning you'll probably have to eat at a time you typically don't eat lunch or dinner, like before 11:30 AM or 2:30-5:00 PM. Personally, it's a small trade-off for some of the best pizza you'll everrrrr have. Any other times and you might be looking at possibly a 1 hour plus wait.

Ask the Community - Sally's Apizza

Planning on passing through on a Friday in the coming weeks and am wondering if I would need to call ahead even for lunch time? Would like to know beforehand thanks!

You can go on their website and order for pickup UNLESS you want to eat inside. I would suggest waiting and eating inside if you have the time and want the full experience.

Will Sally make a pizza half white and half red?

Best way to do this is order two smaller ones ..depends on what kind of pizza - I’m sure the topping may have different cook times

What's the wait if I get there at 5:30 on a Saturday night? Can I order before for pickup and then eat in the outside area?

Thanks for reaching out! Wait times do vary, so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to provide you with an accurate answer, however on weekends we tend to be busier. Outside is first come first serve for tables, so we can't guarantee you'll get a table… Read more

Coming from out of town. Can you eat in or only takeout?

You are able to eat outside on the patio as well call for takeout if you are just stopping through!

Are dogs allowed on patio?

Yes, the patio has spacing sufficient for social distancing both humans and canines. Do not know if they will be putting heaters out in the side parking area patio that we ate at.

Do they take reservations for the outdoor dining, or first come first serve? Is it really necessary to get there for opening when they open at 10am?

They do not take reservations....it's first come first served. I have gone multiple times and waited maybe a half hour. No need to get there at 10am unless you like pizza for breakfast. Btw, excellent pizza and service.

I have been on the phone trying to call sally pizza for 15 minutes, no one is picking up and puts me on hold, I dialed the phone number at 7:55PM, what time does it close on Sunday?

We are open till midnight. Please try back again. We only have 1 phone line and we answer the calls in the order they are received.

Are your phones working? I called 40x and get a busy signal. If you get this message I'd like a large cheese.

Are you the one that asks if everyone phones working, what you just go down the line and call to see who's answering 😳😳😳😳

Does Sally's deliver?

They are now available on Door Dash! Check their hours, they close pretty early.

If I am looking for takeout pizzas on a Saturday afternoon (3.30 pm-ish), how far ahead should I call?…

Always give yourself at least an hour, just order ahead and tell them what time you would like it for.

Do they take reservations?

Sorry, we do not take reservations.

Gluten free pizza?

We do not.

Yelp shows that Sally's takes credit cards, but historically they were cash only. Did this change with the new ownership?

Yes. We started taking Credit cards in April of this year.

I love this place! Do they do take out?

Yes they definitely do. I saw many people leaving with pizzas. But they only do Pizza's that's it. Worth it tho

Possibly a stupid question - do they do slices or just whole pies?

Just whole pies. We do have a small sized one which would make a perfect sized pie for 1.
