Found my to go box in my food, styrofoam all over the chicken tenders. I go back to tell them.... The "boss" says to me this happens all the time..... I tell him i work in a restaurant... he then says oh well you guys must not use styrofoam. (ps we do... and that doesn't happen, never mind trying to use that as an excuse like wha-) Then tells me in the middle of their dinner shift they are changing out fryer oil and will be nearly 30 minutes to get it remade. (p p s fryer oil should not need to be changed out like that unless you leave it and dont change it every shift which is disgusting) I have worked in a restaurant for years. You don't miss a giant hole and crumpled styrofoam everywhere when putting together an order. Especially when you have barely three orders. Place was dead. Pizza Pub is not only a classic Greek Pizza restaurant with a menu to please everyone, but they are also SUPERHEROES. Moving here had no kitchen - Pizza Pub to the rescue; trades people doing work at the house - Pizza Pub to the rescue; surprised by 6 hungry teenagers - Pizza Pub to the rescue; 10 more people show up unexpectedly - Pizza Pub to the rescue; every placed closed at 9p - Pizza Pub to the rescue. Look - Pizza Pub's cheese pizza is hands down one of the best I have ever had period. Funny when I hear the occasional "Greek Pizza is good but greasy" here is a reminder: first, at the fancy pizza places when a pizza droops with, well "grease," it's called oil, olive oil, heart healthy oil - but at a real pizza place the same oil is called grease. Second IF it bothers you, blot with a paper napkin. Here is what I know every time I get a Pizza Pub small cheese pizza - it is served hot. Cheese is perfectly melted with that slight browning on top. Pull a piece out and YES you can pick the whole piece up, no droop. A perfect crunch from first bite to last. When I want a little something extra well, I add bacon and jalapeno peppers to my cheese pizza. And the ultimate test of great pizza - one no one likes to talk about - when you wake up in the morning and you head to the fridge for leftover pizza - I'm addicted to my morning slice of Pizza Pub pie! Big menu so you will just have to try what you want - here is what I or others have had and all has been good: Pizza, BLT Club, chicken and cheese quesadilla, French fries, Grinders - tuna, American mix, chicken parm, ham, Genoa, Italian Combo and steak & cheese. Wings are solid, salads are substantial especially with grilled chicken, melts are a trip, and calzones are cheesy goodness. Pretty terrible pizza and grinders, but the rest of the menu is decent. Prices are insane, especially for the area. The guys behind the counter are always nice, but I regret dining in, the place is filthy and never even close to full. The Pasta dinners here are unreal!!! I couldn't believe the size and the weight of my sausage/meatball penne dish! I picked it up and immediately had to put it down it was THAT heavy. Was pleasantly surprised to see how much meat was included especially since other places in the area are charging $1 per tiny frozen meatball. This meal was EXTREMELY well priced especially for the copious amount of food they gave you! The Caesar side salad and garlic bread were an awesome treat too! My dad got a double cheeseburger sandwich and raved about it. Pizza Pub is my #1 for Italian takeout right now, everything on their menu has impressed! read more

Been here a couple times for subs. Last time will be my last. We ordered 5 subs to go. Got home and was looking forward to my chicken cutlet sub, guess 3 of us had to split their last one. I know the place isn't fancy but for real, they could and should have told us they were out instead of selling me the worst grinder ever. Literally had 3 strips of "chicken" that was almost purely breeding and it was obviously reheated several times before I got it. Worst customer service in CT. I got an Italian sub. On the phone the guy asked if I wanted veggies on it... I said yes all veggies except tomatoes. Upon pick up the sub cost almost double what it was advertised. They charged me 75 cents per veggie past lettuce and tomato. I was confused and pointed to the menu showing the guy at the counter there are no prices for veggies on subs.. he replied..." well it's common sense more veggies is more money..." if that's the case post the damn price of the veggies bone head! I gave him an ear full and left. Complete scum bag. Me and my family haven't been back since. read more

Soggy Grinder. I had a simple request: I called ahead to order a grinder, I was catching a flight home to Florida. I explained to the gentleman over the phone that I would bring my own ziplock bags and that I wanted to keep the lettuce, tomato & olive oil separate in the ziplock bags so that 4 hours later, when I arrived in Florida, that the grinder would not be soggy. He told me to just come and explain when I got there since it would only take a few minutes to prepare. Hmmm. Ok. I arrive with my own ziplock bags, as to make the simple request easy on us all. Both guys told me, it will be fine, they put the olive oil in a separate container but assured me the lettuce and tomato would NOT make the grinder soggy. I explained that I have been doing this for years. (We don't have grinders in Florida and I was bringing this back to my sister.) Again, they insisted it would be fine. Sure enough, my sister received a very soggy grinder. I mean, geez, guys!! Is it too much to just oblige the customer who makes a simple request and even brings their own bags to make sure? It's a simple customer service skill that other Grinder shops have graciously done for me in the 20 years I have been doing this! And, they used their own supplies to ensure that the product was still in good shape when I arrived. I felt totally disregarded and the 2 'gentlemen' made it clear that they could care less. The name "Pizza Pub" is very misleading. They make pizzas and you can buy beer out of a cooler. Thus the name. As for the pizza? Greasy, rubbery crust, and low end ingredients. I would take frozen pizza over this pizza 9 times out of 9. As for the pub? You can buy beer from a cooler. Maybe they have pitchers of beer, but I'm not sure. The place needs such detailing inside, we never eat there. It's not a pub. Head down to Main St in Essex if you are looking for a pub. The owners seem nice, but with 3 other pizza joints within a few mile radius, I think any "out of towners" would be better off exploring different options. The Pizza Pub has been a local favorite for over thirty years, and they never disappoint. You have never eaten a better steak and cheese grinder in your LIFE. Order it with extra cheese, onions, mushrooms, peppers, and black olives. You'll thank me, I promise! They've also got some delicious pizza - but have some paper towels at the ready because it's well-known to be extra greasy (and that's a good thing!). "Great for take out only"? I'm amazed that no-one has mentioned the decor at Pizza Pub. Sure, it's a small place and most people get their food to go, but it's actually a very unique place inside: The small dining area (only two tables) leads through a brick archway to the main dining area, where beefy wooden picnic tables sit atop a floor completely covered in rocks. Yes, the floor is made of rocks! I've personally never seen it done this way anywhere else, but it is very cool and adds a lot to the atmosphere. The walls are painted with outdoor scenes and there are several tall houseplants against the wall, all of which, put together, give a sort of out-of-doors feeling. I worked there for about a month, many years ago - when it came time to clean up at night, we'd just get a big garden hose and spray the whole room down - it's just wood, rocks, and plants, after all! Above you hangs a model train whose tracks extend across the entire perimeter of the room (an homage to the Essex Steam Train, a world-famous locomotive that crosses Main St. just down the road), and there's a classic 50's jukebox in the corner. Or maybe it's an 80's jukebox. Either way, it's got a lot of great tunes in it. They stock a nice assortment of drinks, including Jones brand sodas, and of course they have the normal, everyday fare. All in all, it's a great place and you can't go wrong with anything you order. It's going to be delicious! And if you choose to eat in, you can't go wrong checking out the very unique and cool dining room. It's never packed and you'll probably have the whole place to yourself, since 99% of people get it to go. Check it out! You won't be disappointed! read more

İv been a costomer for a long time now. They always have great food and even better service. Couple of years ago i found out that they changed ownership and i got nervious to be honest. İ went and tried one night and i saw that they had a new menu with much more to offer. İ tried their new pizza called the Mediterranean pizza and it was the best pizza ive had in essex/centerbrook. İ would reccomend trying their new menu and just have a beer while you wait for your food. The new owners are great people to talk to i didnt even miss the old owners at all. A great place to sit down, relax and decompress! Very good pizza and excellent grinders make this place a "go to place" when the time is that you just don't want to cook at home. Plus, Jack, (one of the owners) was extremely helpful to me when I absent-mindedly left my cell phone on my vehicle and drove off and he spent over an hour tracking my phone down after closing and it was raining in the dark and we located it on Route 9 in Old Saybrook using his phone so you talk about a business owner going the extra mile (literally and figuratively) to help a customer! read more

Pizza pub!! This is where my mom would take us as very little girls when we were on the road and needed some pizza without having to go all the way to Pizza Works. It did the trick for saucy/cheesy/greasy/affordable party-style sheet pizzas. I remember the interior to be like an old ticket station, all brick and spartan... very clean... dim lighting... oh maybe that's just my memory going fuzzy... Me and my friends were in town and we got a couple of tips from the dunkin next door that this place was "okay" but when we had a large buffalo chicken pizza I ended up eating 4 slices!
