The meatballs had great flavor and went really well with the crispy crust. The cheese pizza was also really good, and the plain pizza ended up being the favorite for a lot of my family because it lets the crust and sauce shine. This is the second time ordering from Grand Apizza and I can't be disappointed. Prices are average, the pizza is very good and delivery is superb. We ordered five large pizzas; two cheese, a bacon, a pepperoni and the special cheese, buffalo chicken. We placed our party order two days ahead of the event for a specific time. Grand Apizza was able to accommodate the time and the delivery for a group of 15 people. The transaction was smooth and communication was great. Pizza was still hot and fresh! Cash only for the event we had, so no prepay for such a large order. We've used us for two family parties at Hammonassett State Beach. Last year we were able to get deliveries to West Beach. However, this year they didn't go past the gate. Luckily, we were able to get back in because the beach wasn't at capacity. read more

We also got French fries to start and they were really good - they weren't the frozen kind at all they were hand cut and fresh. What brings me to find the time to complain about a darn pizza!?! Clinton location... We walked in and order a pizza to-go and asked to sit down and have a beer as we waited. Only two tables had two people at each and then the two of us. While seated, I smelt burnt pizza and I said (out loud) "I hope that's not my pizza". I heard someone behind the counter chuckle, although, couldn't see the counter. I have no freakin' idea why I didn't check the pie before I left, but my friends & I probably have eaten a thousand+ dollars worth of pizza at this place as we're from the area. My big mistake was not checking the pie, especially after I smelled one burning, but mine came out quite a while after that. I put it in the back of the vehicle and drove it to a friends house. Opened it up and it was burnt, and it was strange, because it wasn't burnt evenly. I didn't even ask for it crispy like I normally do. I called Grand and our waitress answered. I explained the issue and the first thing she said was "did you eat it", I said "no". she gave me her cell number to send pictures of the burnt pie. I sent them to her and did not get a reply. Half hour went by, so I texted her "sooooo". No reply. I told my husband to swing by Grand because I was headed out of town the very next morning. He didn't have the chance. So while out of town, I called two weeks later and said "Hey, I never heard back from you about the burnt pizza". The first person handed the phone to another person that said "We can't help you when it was 2 weeks ago". I said "Well, I texted the person that waited on us and I did not hear a reply. Whose number is 860.....?" She said she had to check. Next person to pick up the phone tells me that the manager remembers the pictures and said that it wasn't "THAT" burnt! Lololol. Seriously, whats a large pizza cost to make with some veggies and 1/2 sausage? Let me tell you, far less than what we pay for one. Anyway, Sal's & Alforno and Saybrook Pizza in Old Saybrook are so consistently better and much friendlier. But, I already passed those before I thought to bring a pizza to my friends. Review Title: Extremely Disappointing Experience I'm very disappointed with my recent delivery order. It took over two hours for my food to arrive, and I actually had to call the restaurant just to check on the status. When it finally showed up, the food was ice cold and tasted like an old frozen dinner--as if it hadn't been properly cooked before delivery. I ordered delivery because I just had surgery and wasn't able to go out. I have been a customer since they opened the restaurant years ago. One doesn't expect a delivery order to be oven hot but it should at be cooked at least. To make matters worse, the delivery driver acted like they expected a significant tip, no apology for lateness or food temperature. I always tip well but now it's just expected. Also, they didn't even call me to say it was going to be late or anything and when I called to check I am treated rudely like I am ruining their day by checking on my order. I have been a long time customer here and I have to admit this was the worst experiences ever. They charged an extra 4$ each for half of a large pizza for toppings, a delivery fee, service fee(ordered through the app), tax and tip. For a total of 2 large pizzas and 1 small specialty pizza it came To 80$!!! They never mentioned a tip being included so I gave the driver 5$( he was the best part of the order)!! Not one to complain or leave a review unless it's excellent, but I must. Ordered pizza here for years and it's good. I, sadly, can no longer eat dairy so I ordered a pizza for the fam, but had questions on other items (given dietary restrictions). I called and was greeted with a very bothered hostile employee - I get it diet concerns are annoying but I had 2 simple quick questions. I didn't want to be a bother or call but I searched and all menus online don't fully describe menu items. Rude staff member aside, I ordered nearly $100 of food (it's pricey for what you get), and the cheese on my salad was all melted (strange) but the worst was the chicken Marsala - I love salt and salty food but this tasted as if they accidentally dumped the entire salt shaker on it! I will also agree with others, I typically order delivery for which the shop happily takes my card, but the one time I ordered and picked up I got the stink eye because they said they only take cash and to use their ATM (what's the fee?) to get cash - how can you do that when you take cards for online delivery orders? Although their pizza's decent, not sure I'll go back - 3 strikes and all. Sorry be nicer more fair and care about your other dishes much as you care about your pizza. read more

Hands down the best New Haven Style Pizza on the shoreline! Authentic, family run business that is really very consistent in delivering an excellent pizza. We order pizza here once a week, maybe twice in the summer, and I would say that everything we've ordered (pizza, calzone, stuffed bread, pastas and grinders) are 'out of the park' excellent 9 out of 10 times. A tried and true pizza place by the shore. I recommend the Quattro fromaggio or the Hawaiian (yes I'm one of those people), both of which they do really well! Flavorful and reheats great. On another trip, we got some total misses. Personally I was not a fan of the sausage and broccoli pizza, and I asked to add extra garlic and didn't end up getting any garlic flavor, but of course was charged for the extra topping. The Stromboli stuffed bread was MASSIVE, great deal if that's what you're looking for, but we thought it was way too much food for multiple people to split. They also sell Foxon Park sodas from East Haven, CT! Love these things. Highly recommend trying some if you're from out of town. We ordered for pickup several times, and every time they're running late. Like 20 minutes late. Every order was late and the customers seemed to be very impatient. My family and I have been coming here for as far back as I can remember, and after frequenting Grand Apizza for around 20 years-ish, I can count the amount of bad experiences I've had with it on a single hand. I'd say thats pretty good. Its a family business, and you can tell the standards are pretty high and that theyve been making pizza for a long time. Everything from the amount of cheese they use to the sauce to the crust is all done pretty well. If you've been to New Haven CT and like Modern, Pepes or some of the other highly acclaimed pizza parlors in that area, Grand is pretty comparable to that. Its the same New Haven style. When I go there I like to get Bacon and Pepperoni. The salty meat flavor is done fantastically, but it doesnt overpower the cheese, crust or sauce at all. Its like the heavy metal of pizzas, very powerful and complex flavor. You can either pick it up on site or eat it there. You'll get good pizza either way but if you want the full experience youre best off eating it there. Its best its hottest and freshest. The restaurant carries Foxon Park soda too, which is a local soda company incase someone reading this review didn't know. It pairs pretty nicely with the pizza and its generally a sign a restaurant is pretty legit. I can't speak anymore highly of this restaurant than I already am, but definitely check it out if youre in the area for a good while. I promise it won't disappoint. read more

I order Two Broccoli Rabe Grinders from this place. This is supposed to be a Full sized Sub. For $12 I got two Grinders that weighed 14 ounces each With The Paper and Foil Still On The Sub! Well. My son is a fan of Dave from Barstool. He has a review of pizza places all over that he does called "One Bite". Look it up- quite entertaining. Dave reviewed Grand Apizza and gave it an 8.2 the best being 10 of course so we had to try it. It's a small to medium sized restaurant following the COVID guidelines so all good. Cash only and most of the business was take out when we were there. The waitress was very sweet and quick to serve us. No complaints. Now to the food. We started with wings. Very crispy traditional buffalo wings- lots of vinegar in the sauce. Good and tasty. We ordered a small sausage and a large mozzarella pizza well done. Don't want any flop - as Dave would say. The pizza was delicious. Crispy- great tomato flavor in the sauce and just the right amount of cheese. Large cheese only $13.75 and 12 slices. I've paid more than that for junky pizza. There's a reason why apizza grand left New haven, they can't compete with the big boys. When, Barstool's Dave pontroy gave this place an 8.2, I had high hopes. This place is pricey and skimps on quality. Large toss salad, a bag mix of ice burg from Sam's club. How about some nice home made creamy Italian dressing? Not here, they give you Ken's packets. As for the pizza, maybe you will get some of the good pepperoni that they have at pepes? Whoops fooled again, cheap pepperoni. So I'll start with something positive.. the calzones and pizza are quite good, but that's about all I can say. The customer service, which matters just as much, in my opinion, has MUCH to be desired! We came in as a larger party( been coming for years with no problem- in fact were treated wonderfully by the previous management) but this time, AWFUL! We were given an attitude immediately, were told we didn't tell them we were coming when we had certainly called earlier in the day, took a very long time to get any drinks or orders, and were given PLASTIC forks and PAPER plates because we were told there weren't enough for us! Mind you, all of the other tables in the dining room received silverware and plates. When we asked for plates and knives to cut our calzones and such, we were met with exasperation. I'm not sure why a business would think it was okay to treat customers this way. It's really disappointing. I'll add that this is the first negative review I've written, as I normally love to hilight a business, but I think it is important that businesses are held responsible for their shortcomings as well as their assets.
