I was 45 minutes from home, in Old Saybrook, when I realized the restaurant I was planning to visit was closed for Labor Day. I vaguely remembered that there may have been a CT Visit Pizza Trail Top 20 votegetter based in Old Saybrook. I Googled the Trail, and sure enough, Pizza Palace was number 16. I was there about 5 minutes later. PP serves Greek style pizza, but also has seafood, grinders, apps, etc. They have nice inside and outside seating. Service was very good. I ordered a small Scallop and Bacon pizza. My server asked if I wanted it red or white, and I thought it would be interesting to go half and half. The crust was well executed Greek Style. The bacon was good and crispy without being overcooked. The bay scallops were cooked through and perfectly tender. The cheese was well melted and tasty. The white sauce half seemed to have a Bechamel. It wasn't too assertive and complemented the other flavors well. The red sauce half was also very subtle. Pizza Palace definitely makes one of the better CT Greek style pizzas I've had. I really had a lovely experience and I can see why PP is so popular. 4.5 Stars

Mushroom, spinach, bacon pizza!

Another amazing meal! This is our go to spot for whole belly clams, hands down! Oil changed every night, and clams always fresh. The pizza is also very good and everyone from the owners, staff, cooks etc treat you like your family..

Great food. Staff was very friendly and served food right away. Warned that it was hot out of the oven. She checked on us and brought items when requested. Great experience

We've driven by this place many times and it always seems busy. Being part of the pizza tour, we stopped to try it. Its small but bright with outdoor seating. The staff is very welcoming. We ordered 2 small pizzas and my husband got a beer. Prices are nice! We tried the pepperoni pizza and the loaded potato pizza. These are pan baked pizzas with a thicker crust, not a new haven style pizza. We were disappointed with that. Putting that aside, the pizzas were delicious. There were hot and cheesey and tasty. The pepperoni was delicious. The loaded potato was akin to loaded cheese fries on a pizza. Not bad, only different. Im glad we stopped here. We did leave satisfied. Just don't expect a New Haven style thin crust pizza and you'll enjoy you meal!

I was not expecting this to be so good! We were looking for somewhere still open late and showed up 10 minutes before they closed. We felt bad about coming so late but everyone was so kind and accommodating! Not to mention, the pizza was DELICIOUS. We just got a regular pizza with mushrooms and jalapeños and it was so flavorful we were audibly going "yum" after every bite. Genuinely was not expecting this to be some of the best pizza I've had in a longggg time

Who would have ever guessed that a Pizza restaurant would have the best whole belly clam dinner we have ever had in our entire lives. Went to Harvey Beach today and the man at the gate suggested this place when we asked for great seafood. I cannot compliment this place enough. The clams literally melted in your mouth. We also ordered the fried Cod dinner which was also delicious. The server, Alex was so friendly and so knowledgeable. Just very pleasant. We had the best experience. And the price was lower than expected. If you want to treat yourself when in Old Saybrook CT, and love whole belly clams this is your place! Delectable! And the atmosphere was so comfortable. A family place. Don't pass this one by. Oh, and I hear the pizza is good too A real gem!!

Large salad

How can you sell two large salads both with bad lettuce you can't eat?? Cucumbers looked like two days old What a shame and charge $11.95 for crap So disappointed Next time don't ask if I want my change back Just hand it back That's so unprofessional and lacks character

Nice "pizza place" to sit down and eat rather than take out and they have much more than pizza. All good!

Sal's Pizza & Pasta - Old Saybrook, CT…read more Slice Mob Takeover Nine members of the Slice Mob walked into Sal's Pizza & Pasta hungry. The pizzas never stood a chance. Located in Old Saybrook, Sal's is spacious, comfortable, and welcoming, with Italian classics playing in the background and plenty of room for a large gathering. It proved to be the perfect setting for a Slice Mob takeover. A variety of pizzas made their way to our tables, but I started with the basics: crushed tomatoes, fresh garlic, and grated Parmesan. Sometimes simple is best. Built on a beautifully crisp crust that held up from first bite to last, this pizza let the tomatoes shine. They were lightly seasoned and full of flavor, supported by the punch of garlic and the salty bite of Parmesan. No unnecessary distractions. Just a really well-executed pizza. Next up was Sal's Works. Same great crust and sauce foundation, loaded with sausage, pepperoni, bacon, roasted peppers, mushrooms, onions, and mozzarella. This pie struck a nice balance between meat-lover indulgence and vegetable-forward freshness. The toppings were applied with restraint and purpose, allowing every ingredient to contribute. Salty, sweet, savory, and packed with contrasting textures, from crispy bacon to tender sausage and vegetables, every bite worked. As more pizzas arrived, the room got a little quieter. That's usually a good sign. The Slice Mob tends to have plenty to say, but when great pizza hits the table, conversation takes a back seat. What stood out most? Not a single complaint from anyone. And if you've ever dined with the Slice Mob, you know that's about as rare as finding a parking spot in New Haven on a Saturday night. Michael, the second-generation owner, came out to greet us and pose for a photo. Super nice guy, humble, appreciative, and genuinely happy to see us. He also couldn't help but comment on the number of pizzas we ordered. Fair observation. We may have slightly exceeded the recommended daily allowance of pizza. The restaurant is beautiful. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. And perhaps most surprising in today's world, the prices were incredibly reasonable. Judging by the smiles around the room, the empty trays, and the steady stream of pizzas coming out of the kitchen, Sal's didn't just feed the Slice Mob. They won us over. Great owners. Great staff. Great pizza. Sal's Pizza & Pasta is officially Slice Mob Approved. Pizza is life. See you at the next slice.

We had a gift certificate for Sal's, and we had no idea what to expect. We went for lunch around…read more11:30 on a Saturday and it was almost empty. There were three of us in our party. We ordered a large regular pizza with extra cheese and a large salad. Before the food came out, the server brought us a large basket of warm bread and butter, which we were not expecting. That won us over immediately. Before long, she brought us an absolutely enormous salad. It had a nice variety of vegetables and a delicious balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing. The pizza was perfectly cooked with a slight char, a nicely flavored cheese mix and a slightly sweet tomato sauce. The crust was thin and had a great texture. We were thrilled, and will definitely be back.
