Buffet is 16.99$ no problem actually a good deal IF they were as advertised and other Pizza Ranch locations. If zero stars were possible that's what this location would receive. Arrived 7:10 pm approached the counter and a manager or employee had his back to us headphones on playing with the tv. He didn't acknowledge us until he was done and said someone will be either you soon then walked off. Eventually a manager took our simple 3 buffet order and payment failing to tell us the only drink options were coke, diet, and water. I don't drink diet and I detest coke and didn't want water so had I known I would have waited to dine here until they were Pepsi converted as signs said on the drink machines after paying. There were 3 dried out half pizzas on the buffet as we passed to go to our seats. Sadly not a single pizza ever came out of the kitchen for the buffet the entire time we dined which was extended because we waited after salad and soup for fresh pizza. The fried chicken was pretty much the same story a few dried out and old pieces lay there no white meat at all. Finally while having what I will say was probably the best broccoli cheddar soup I've ever had the manager messing with the tv came out either a tray of a half dozen to 8 or 9 pieces of fresh chicken (all dark meat) dumped it then loaded up his plate with chicken and sides and went to eat leaving only the cashier to work FOH and what I can presume BOH since he was running about between both filling the buffet by piece milling pizzas together and refilling side items that didn't need topping off like gravy and potato wedges. A few groups came in one after another as we had soup and salad groups of 5/6 per party. Still no fresh pizza or chicken. After 30 minutes of waiting and nothing coming out of the kitchen except 1 pizza specially made for a party of six and delivered to their table we gave up and left having just had salad and a cup of soup because that was literally all that was offered. At other Pizza Ramch locations were asked either at check in or upon being seated by a waitress if there was anything they could make specifically for us but not at this location. The dessert bar had literally 1 slice .... Not 1 pizza pie but 1 slice of dessert pizza on it and soft serve. The soft serve jumps out because after the 3 parties came in totally approx 15-18 people on top of us and a few other customers already there the manager who was casually dining then had dessert paying no mind attention or respect to the mounting customers and lack of food. Don't get me wrong I know and very much believe in employees having their meal breaks but before you do you have your co workers back and have stuff stocked you certainly don't take from what little minute was available to paying customers . But even if you are going to do so don't do it right in front of customers. So low class and unprofessional to take the only fresh food brought out and then casually sit in the dining room eating watching customers arriving knowing there is no food on the buffet except salad and a few sides. Price for dinner was $10.99/adult. For a regular night, kids would have been $9.99/kid. We've been to this one 3 times. This location has higher reviews. Go figure. But i have observed the same of this Pizza Ranch from previous visits as my review follows: Front counter service was so-so. At this visit an employee was sweeping when we walked in and walked away from us without acknowledging us that there will be help shortly. Felt like she was purposely ignoring us but I brushed it off. A different employee rang us up but her countenance was the same. Food was hot and fresh. Very well stocked and clean. Pizza came out quickly to replenish empty trays. Ice cream machine worked. Desserts were hawked and seemed like they couldn't get those out fast enough. Keep in mind it was busy! Seating was good but floors were very dirty in our area. Our table could not be cleaned off any faster. It was possible they were low on staff, but I don't really know. But a night like Tuesday kid eat free night you would think service would be on their game. There were only two people clearing tables. Tuesday night kids eat free is the best deal for Pizza Ranch. I also put in a 20% tip online so I automatically added it to my bill but they then asked for a tip on the receipt when she got to my house and I put the tip down that I put on the website. They ended up charging me two times the amount that I originally put on there. So I got ripped off. Pizza Ranch I am not a fan of buffets. I typically find the food to be mediocre at best, sometimes unsanitary and just overall not my favorite dining experience. However, as the mommy of a 5 1/2-year-old autistic boy, Pizza Ranch on University Avenue in Waukee ends up an option once in awhile. It's quick, close to home, clean and after my son's swim lessons when he is starving and can eat more than a college male athlete, this place makes it into our dinner rotation more than I would like to admit. What I like about this buffet is it's super small, it's not a spread of 50 items that are all pretty much the same with slight variations and named something different. This is a simple spread of pizzas, freshly fried chicken, a decent salad bar and plenty of sides. When we arrived it was only us and two other tables. By the time I grabbed my son's pizza, and then my dad went up for his turn, there was a line halfway out the door and my son's autism went bazerk. My dad wolfed down his dinner in a hurry and took him home so I could finish my salad, as I can't eat very quickly. My salad and toppings were fresh and delicious, my dad said the fried chicken and sides were amazing though I'm not 100% positive that he even chewed his food because he was in such a hurry to take my son out of there , and my son appeared to enjoy his one slice of pizza (before bolting)! Now I will say, he generally does that more when grandpa is around so that could have been adding fuel to the fire; he does play my dad like a fiddle, LOL. I battled between asking management if I could take a few slices home or just letting it go. But seeing as how much food was being wasted at other tables around me (am I the only one that gets enough food only for what can be eaten and not wasted?) I decided to give it a try. I would not have blamed the manager if he had told me that was against their policy; in fact, I was fully expecting that response and rightfully so. The manager was beyond gracious, as I very quietly whispered that I was sincerely sorry and could I grab two slices of pizza for my son because he only finished one slice before having to leave. I quickly explained to him that he doesn't do well in noisy environments where he's not overly familiar and around people he doesn't know. He was so kind about it, grabbed me a small box, told me to grab whatever I needed and did not make a big fuss about it. My son can eat an entire pizza from Pizza Ranch himself, but I was beyond grateful that he even let me take two slices! We will be back again and again, service like that is so important from a place that caters largely to families with small children. I can't even imagine the number of patrons that try to get away with taking food home or hoarding food in their purses (as someone who dines out a lot, and has been in the restaurant business her whole life, you would be shocked at some of the things people try to get away with in restaurants)!!! I've seen people bring their own Ziploc bags to bag extra food in, run Tupperware containers out to their cars to try and hide it, etc.! I've seen it all, and I couldn't even begin to imagine having to keep an eye out for that at an establishment like this. The only complaint about the little food I tasted would be that the chicken tortilla soup had excellent flavor with just a little bit of heat, but there was nothing to it. No corn, no beans, hardly any meat and really no substance at all. But the soup itself had great flavor. My fiance and I came here on a Sunday night for dinner. The parking lot was packed so we knew it would be rather busy and that normally means new pizzas coming out often on the buffet. We went up to the buffet and saw just a few pizzas so I opted to start with the salad. What can I say, typical stuff that you always find on a salad bar. For $10 you not only get all you can eat pizza but really good fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad bar, and beverages at the coke machine or ice tea machine. Its nice having all those options at one set price. There is a huge variety of pizza available and they keep bringing out more and of all kinds. I probably tried 6+ different flavors. Another nice thing is they are small slices so you can try lots. Their salad bad was pretty good but was missing real bacon bits. And their fried chicken was da bomb. Super juicy and crunchy. Mashed potatoes were edible and nothing special. Overall, buffet quality is good. You get plenty of options that are pretty tasty. Perfect for groups or a family. My wife and I took my mom here Sunday after church for her 70th birthday. The manager at the cash register asked us if we wanted specialty pizzas, but then they brought me a cheese instead of a Bronco (all meat). The server was really nice and apologized for the manager's error, and then it took another 30 minutes for them to make the pizza. When they finally noticed that we still hadn't gotten our requested pizza, They said "we'll have that right out." I said, "You know what, don't bother, we're getting ready to leave." Any good pizza place would have said, "Hey, why don't we just put that in a box for you" but this place doesn't know what customer service is, because they said, "would you like to take some home? How many pieces?" I said "four" because that's how many we would have eaten if they had brought it earlier. They brought two pieces. And from that point the manager with her hoodie and her headset kept glaring at our table as we sat there and talked. My wife went back to the buffet and got two pieces of the pizza. Then right before we left the server came over and said, "I'm sorry but my manager says you need to leave now." I said, "Don't worry, we're leaving and we won't be back." I also informed the woman in the hoodie (assuming she's the manager) "I'm not coming back, and it's because of you." My family recently ordered dinner for delivery from the pizza ranch and it was the most disgraceful experience we've ever encountered. First, we ordered a pizza, bread sticks and dessert pizza and were told it would be 45 minutes for delivery. After 90 minutes I finally called and they said they forgot our order and they would expedite the delivery...20 Minutes. Next, I had to call an hour later and they apparently had no acknowledgment of our order period but were promptly billed for it...go figure. Three and a half hours later we received our pizza, which wasn't cooked and they forgot the bread sticks and dessert pizza but we were still charged. We decided to give them another chance because we are from the orange city Iowa area and still had hope they still instilled their beliefs in doing the right thing. When we called they informed us that they will never deliver to our address again. The pizza is mediocre to begin with but we believe in supporting locally grown businesses. We ordered Pizza delivery. The pizza came with the toppings slid off the pizza and hardening into a corner of the box. We called in to let them know and they said they would get a new one to us. An hour later we still had not received it. We called again and they let us know that we would be the last people to receive our pizza that night. Another half hour later we got our cold pizza. Ate lunch at the Pizza Ranch today. At othere Pizza Ranch they ask if there are any special request, such as a certain pizza. THEY DID NOT ASK IF WE HAD ANY REQUESTS. The food we had was good. But there was little of it. BUFFET WAS NOT REFILLED IN A TIMELY MANNER!! Had to ask for food to be brought out. And then wait and wait. A gentleman finally came out to refill the chicken, his shirt did not cover his belly nor did his pants cover his crack!! Not a pleasant sight on someone serving food. NO ONE CAME TO BUS DISHES FROM OUR TABLE!!!! When I reported this to the manager she said they would work on it. THere was not a large crowd there eating, think I know why. I usually go to the Pizza Ranch in Ankeny, which I love! Decided to go to the Waukee location because it's closer to my house. NEVER AGAIN!! For starters, as we were looking for a table to sit at, I noticed 3 workers at a corner table: 1 with her feet raised onto the chair next to her playing on her phone, 1 girl standing by her talking to her, and the other girl tying her hair in a ponytail. So we find a table. I ask a male worker for a high chair. I had to ask him for a wet rag because he brought me one with food stuck on the seat. I go up to the buffet line. I ask the same male worker that brought me the dirty chair if they had soup. (Ankeny location offers 2 kinds of soup) He points to the back and says "I'm not sure, You can check in that pot right there to see if there's chili in it." ....umm, thanks but I'll pass if you, the worker, can't even tell me what's in the pot. I proceed to make a salad. Who in the world serves shredded taco lettuce for salad?!? Apparently Pizza Ranch in Waukee. OK I pass on that too. I'm looking for silverware. I had to tell the worker in front that their silverware tray was empty. So I decide on cheese bread and marinara sauce. Not only was there dried up sauce that looked like it had been there all day without being cleaned all over the buffet line, but the bowl that the sauce was in was down to its bottom and dried up. How could anyone find that appealing? I ask the worker to refill the sauce. She brings it out and lets me know that she brought out a new container. My response " thanks, but what am I supposed to be dipping in it?" the bread was completely out and had been for awhile because I had already been waiting for it. Proceeded to the line with the chicken. Mashed potatoes were down to its last and all dried up. There was "stuff" floating on top of the gravy. The counters were filthy!! At this point I've completely lost my appetite. So I go back to the table with one slice of pizza on my plate. As I'm looking around, I count 8 female workers doing absolutely nothing but standing around. How in the heck do you have so many workers but there's so little being done in the establishment? I remember reading a "Now hiring, you must be 16 years of age" sign as I walked in. Just because you hire a bunch of young kids to run the place, doesn't mean you should allow the place to look run down. If your workers can't keep the place clean and look professional as they do it, they shouldn't be working in a public place like that. The whole 20 minutes I was there, I only noticed one older woman doing ANYTHING. I watched as she refilled the salad bar. But with so many workers standing around doing nothing, that place should have been spotless. And it shouldn't matter what time of the day you go. Shouldn't matter if its 12 noon or 7 at night. The quality of the food and customer service shouldn't lower because its getting later in the day. I was highly disappointed in this location. And when we got up to leave, a female worker asked if "everything was ok." I blatantly said no. and she was shocked!
