We had dinner here this past weekend and had some good and bad points. -Fried calamari appetizer: The calamari was super tender and very well seasoned however the batter, even though it seemed very lightly fried, did not stick to the calamari and was very oily. The portion was also pretty small given the price of $19. -Chicken Parmigiana with penne pasta: The chicken was cooked and seasoned well with melted mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce on top. The penne pasta was not my favorite. Most of the penna was overcooked and mushy while a few pieces were hard and seemingly undercooked. Overall, if the pasta was better, I'd say this dish was a fair value at $29. -Cacio de pepe: Initially, when it came out, we noticed that the sauce was very watery and not emulsified nearly enough. At first taste, we both noticed that it tasted very different from what we would expect. The smell was quite rancid and very off-putting (not the normal funky parm cheese smell). We let the server know and she had the pasta remade which did not make much of a difference. The sauce was still pretty watery and not creamy, and the flavor was very off from what we would expect this dish to taste like. We sent this dish back and did not request a new one this time. For reference, this dish was $25. Service was friendly and our server was apologetic about the pasta and took it off our bill so that was fine. It was just a bit slow, especially when we got the check, we put our credit card in the book and stood it up with the card sticking out so it was easily visible. Our server walked by our table 3-4 times without even glancing over to see if we were ready. Overall, 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 stars for the friendly service. read more

We had such an amazing experience here. From the moment we walked in, we were treated so well -- the service, the atmosphere, and the food were all outstanding. Jake took incredible care of us and truly elevated the entire experience. I started with a glass of the Cabernet, which was so good that I ended up purchasing a bottle of the Prati. Absolutely amazing. For appetizers, I ordered the scallops and the black tiger shrimp -- both were phenomenal. For my main course, I had the chicken tortellini, which was delicious and comforting in the best way. My husband ordered the fresh vegetables and the chicken sandwich without the bread, thank you to the Chef for the special accommodation, and he loved every bite. He also had an Old Fashioned, and I have to say -- the bartender was completely on point tonight. We sat on the patio, and when we asked for a heater, they brought one out right away. It made the evening so cozy and comfortable. This is officially my new go-to spot, and I will absolutely be requesting Jake again for his amazing service. Donna and Harold were celebrating their Golden 50th Wedding Anniversary on the delightful patio wing adjacent to the main entrance and my bride, who works closely w/ Donna as an adjunct instructor, received an invitation. Color us suitably impressed...just probably not to the point where WE'D return as paying guests, ourselves. Not because of anything that the Pizzaoili team neglected to do, but solely because we are not the biggest consumers nor partisans of, Italian cuisine. Our dinner party was comprised of 25-30 guests, carefully arrayed around a large rectangular table with big heat lamps strategically positioned. Pizzaoili prepared a Prix Fixe menu for guests of the Spiegel dinner party. We started with baskets of golden, flaky Italian bread dressed with generous amounts of bruschetta then pivoted to house salads which, candidly, would've rated higher had they been sprinkled with parmesan reggiano and/or black/red peppers. Guest then chose from a fixed menu list of four entrees, including: -Salmon with Roasted Seasonal Vegetables -Beef Lasagna -Chicken with Peppers served with Penne Alfredo -Linguine served with two sizable Meatballs My bride chose the lasagna while I opted for the Chicken and Peppers dish. The pasta was prepared al dented, the sauces with rich and creamy to the point of being superbly filling. Our wait staff, a dynamic duo of two ladies, did a masterful job in keeping the wines, coffees and diet cokes topped off. Restrooms were suitably clean and provisioned. So I haven't been here in awhile because there were no gluten free options as far as pasta. But tonight I went back & was surprised they now offer a GF noodle. I ordered it with marinara sauce. I was so disappointed I couldn't even eat it. I understand that GF noodles are hard to cook sometimes or certain brands are terrible but my pasta was so overcooked it was like mush. It was penne style and I couldn't even pick it up. It fell apart. Fortunately we found Bruno's in Downtown Brea to enjoy GF Italian food. They have figured out GF noodles with any dish other than lasagna. Maybe Pizzaioli's should inquire from Bruno's on brand of noodles & how to cook them so it's a pleasant experience for us GF peeps. read more

We paid $6 for COLD bread. We thought okay being an authentic Italian restaurant we'd get fresh and warm bread. Not today. I got the chicken Parmesan. Chicken and tomatoe sauce were lacking flavor. Service was not so great. Waitress and waiter were not very friendly. We kept having to get their attention and they'd walk right past us. Vibe just felt off. Food here is really good. Thai place has been in business for 30 years. I remember coming here in my 20's for a client lunch. It was great then and it is great now. The service here has always been great. This place gets busier and busier every time I come. It's dark here in the evening gives you a fine dining ambiance, during the day it is brighter. I've been coming here regularly and have spent a lot of money supporting this place because I genuinely liked the ambiance and the food. I don't usually write reviews, especially negative ones, but this experience crossed a line. There has been a bartender, Kris, who has consistently come off as cold and unwelcoming. I brushed it off for a while, assuming maybe she was just having off days--no one is "on" 100% of the time. But after today, it's clear this isn't just a personality issue. My husband and I came in when the bar was nearly empty. As usual, we were ignored. Thankfully, a very kind young bartender, Jake, stepped in and took care of us--we appreciated that. Shortly after, another guest sat directly next to me despite plenty of open space. Not ideal, but fine. What wasn't fine was being asked by Kris to move down the bar to accommodate her. The same bartender who regularly ignores us suddenly became warm and attentive--just not toward us. That contrast made it very clear that the issue isn't general service... it's selective service. We quietly moved, closed our tab, and left. But honestly, it didn't sit right. We support local businesses, we tip well, and we treat people with respect. To be treated like we were an inconvenience--especially when the place wasn't even busy--is disappointing. I've since noticed other reviews mentioning similar concerns about customer service, which makes this feel less like a one-off and more like a pattern. It's unfortunate because this place has so much going for it. But great food and ambiance don't outweigh feeling unwelcome. We won't be returning. read more

We walked into Pizzoli's on a Sunday afternoon. It was surprisingly quiet. But all the employees were very nice and told us to sit anywhere we would like. Our server Nydia came over and was very pleasant and informative. She told us about all the specials which all sounded great, but we where in the mood for pizza so we asked asked her what her favorite Pizza was and she recommended the Fungi Pizza. Which was fantasticico!! They were very engaging and took our name down and said they can sit us right away. We get there and they do. And it's all down hill from there. Our waitress comes to our table. Older women with glasses. She takes drink orders, I ask would you like us to split the check now or afterwards. She said "yes tell me before" but in a very rude and condescending tone. When we walked in they took our cake from us and failed to mention the $25 holding fee for an outside desert. Our food arrived and the chicken Parm was terrible along with the spoiled tasting pasta. We have been coming here for more than 15 years and I have to stay that the chicken tortellini in creamy jalapeño sauce is our dish of choice. However over the years this dish which used to cost about $20 is now $32. It has evolved over the years from a green tortellini noodle to a plain tortellini noodle. It used to be offered with tiger shrimp as well. The chicken used to be a few strips placed on the top, now its all mixed in and the proportion of meat and noodles has lost its appeal. Too much chicken, not enough sauce. Very dry consistency. We had to pour the dipping sauce on it to add some flavor. From the disappointed visits we have had with the evolution of this favorite dish, we had to make alternate choices for dinner. We used to have a girls night out and all of us would order this dish and then have to order these dishes to go for our spouses as well. So in lieu of this we had to try new menu items. We ordered the chicken parmesan, the pizza, calamari and jalapeno sauce for our bread to dip. Some of us couldn't resist to have the tortellini so we opted to have it split in the back for two for an additional $6 dollars. Hands down the best part of the meal was the server we had who realized we were old time group of friends and kept trying to make us laugh and keep the mood light. The ambiance was nice and quiet with elegance. Definitely a nice location hidden in chino. However from the meals, only the bread with the jalapeño sauce for dipping was worth raving about. We kept running out and having to wait long periods for refills. Everything took long from our drinks to the appetizers to the food. It was not a busy evening for the restaurant. Came here to celebrate my promotion with my fiancé. We were pleasantly surprised as our favorite Italian restaurant is Alza Osteria in Brea. We were surprised there was good Italian in Chino, closer to us. We got a pizza with 4 or 4 toppings, very delicious, the dough was fresh and the sauce was zesty. We also got the caprese as an appetizer. It was bomb. The Blanca vino dish was awesome, it was linguine with white wine and seafood. I actually told my fiancé we could totally get pizza to go next time because it was so good. The bartender was Justin, he was really food because I asked for an off the menu rum cocktail and he made me something that was citrus based, so delicious, it was called something with missionary.
