Wow. First time I've had venison like this, and man. The presentation was cool. Waiter brought it out covered in glass and opened up the container in front of me so I could see the smoke leave the plate. She got the surf and turf, which is always nice. Made reservations for a belated father's day dinner and we were seated immediately. Our corner was unfortunately decorated with storage that had gatehred quite a bit of dust. As a visual person, it did hamper the ambiance for me, especially since I was sitting right next to it. AMARETTO SOUR: 3/5. Very sweet, and orange-forward which is a new flavor profile for this cocktail for me. BREAD & WHIPPED BUTTER: 5/5. Served warm. The bread was pillowy soft, and the butter, (which was more air than butter and therefore definitely zero calories), was delightfully salty. BRUSSELS SPROUTS: 5/5. I've been burned by so many poorly done sprouts that I don't order them anymore, but my partner wanted to try it and I'm so glad we got them. Zero bitterness, and crispier than an newly minted dollar bill. OCTOPUS: 5/5. Grilled to perfection, soft, not rubbery. The spices in the romesco sauce were aromatic and punchy. STEAK TARTARE: 4/5. Good. These crostinis were the most crostinis to have ever crostinied. The perfect vessel for the rich steak. MUSHROOM SOUP: 5/5. This is the first time I've found balance between being truffle-forward without being overbearing. Usually I'm done after about two spoonfuls, but all 3 bowls (shared between 6 of us) were cleaned. SURF & TURF: 5/5. Owen's checks internal and external temperature, which means steak is cooked true to the way it's ordered. More impressive is that they didn't overcook the lobster. A moment for the gorgeous blue plates; they are heirlooms, and only 7 of them exist in the world. CHILEAN SEA BASS: 4/5. For me, the radish did a lot of heavy lifting in balancing out the saltiness of the soy vinaigrette and richness of the fish itself. STEAK FRITES: 4/5. Again, perfectly cooked steak. I only had one fry, and I thought it was a damn good fry, but my partner did say it eventually got salty. And he loves his salt. CAMPING TRIP: 5/5. The crust on the salmon, the theatrics of the hot rock, the fresh veggies. It's a classic for a reason. MAITAKE MUSHROOM: 4/5. While it was good, I didn't find myself continuously reaching for more, as I nearly always do with mushrooms. ROBUCHON POTATOES: 5/5. AKA indulgent, buttery velvet. A labor of love well received. STRAWBERRY TART: 5/5. While the strawberries were phenomenal, the vanilla (?) custard was a little heavy for me. My mom inhaled it though. CRÈME BRÛLÉE: 5/5. So good. I don't know when it became normalized to serve crème with an Ozempic-thin layer of brûlée, but thank you Owen's for not doing that. read more

I did the 10 oz filet with fries and my husband did the wagyu with the truffle fries. I've honestly never had fries with my steak and wasn't sure what to expect but it was a really good pairing. We each added asparagus for a vegetable side. For appetizers we did the loaf of bread and the beef tartar. The loaf of bread was warm and had really good fluffy butter. This is one of romantic fine dining located in downtown Chino. We were here just because we wish to eat great beef. So my husband ordered Australian Wagyu and I ordered Short Rib over Pasta. First off the Wagyu was so 'stingy' considered it worth of $75, it's only the super tender meat and 3 pieces of potato, could be more generous with some veggie for that price. While the Beef Short Rib Pasta was tender however the sauce was too sour to my opinion. Overall service was great and sweet. We were taken care of well. I had heard great things about this restaurant in Chino from friends and Yelp reviews, so my expectations were high. My girlfriend and I had been looking forward to dining here for a while, and we decided to celebrate our 3 year anniversary here this past Wednesday night. The night started off on a positive note: the restaurant had a cozy ambiance with pleasant music, and the staff left a personalized anniversary card with heart confetti on our table -- a thoughtful touch I appreciated since I had mentioned our celebration in the reservation. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. Our server, Jordan, was friendly but clearly inexperienced. He struggled with multitasking and took longer than expected to take our order using the tablet. Both my girlfriend and I have past experiences in the restaurant industry as servers, so we know this wasn't due to a busy night -- the place was relatively slow. Jordan also didn't seem knowledgeable about the menu or ingredients, and he kept running back and forth to the kitchen for basic questions. He recommended the swordfish with eggplant as the special of the night, which my girlfriend ordered, and I got the Wagyu Ribeye. I asked for grilled onions on the side -- a pretty standard topping request at most gourmet bistros -- but was told they weren't available. Odd, but I let it go. Thankfully, my steak came out perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. The real issue came with the swordfish with eggplant dish. Right away, my girlfriend commented that it was dry and completely bland. I tasted it myself and agreed -- it was far from the standard you'd expect, especially for a nightly special. We flagged it to Jordan, who didn't show much empathy or concern. He simply said he'd take it back. We requested the salmon instead. To make matters worse, it took over 25 minutes for the replacement dish to arrive. By then, my ribeye was cold since I had waited to eat with my girlfriend. Again, Jordan didn't acknowledge the delay or offer to accommodate us in any meaningful way. He lacked the attentiveness and awareness expected at a higher-end restaurant, and it really put a damper on what was supposed to be a special night. When the bill came, the swordfish dish (which we didn't eat) was removed -- which is fair -- but no other accommodation was offered for the overall inconvenience. We had to ask if anything else could be done. Jordan went to speak with a manager and returned offering either 10% off the replacement dish or removing a glass of basic champagne from the bill. He laughed while presenting the options, which came across as unprofessional and dismissive given the situation. In the end, while I appreciated the personalized card and initial gesture, the poor service, disappointing food quality (especially the special), and lack of accountability really soured the experience. This place might be great on other nights, and I understand not every experience is perfect -- but I felt it was important to share our honest experience so others celebrating something meaningful aren't left feeling like we did. read more

Very crispy with great flavor served with lemon and mayo. Then we had our salads. Cesar Salad and Green Goddess Salad. Really good and flavorful salad dressings with fresh crisp vegetables. For our entrees we had the Lobster Tail and the Flat Iron Steak. The Lobster Tail was served with clarified butter, lemon, on a bed of pasta. The Flat Iron Steak was juicy and rare with crispy and seasoned French fries along with a sauce. Service was great. Just underwhelming overall I came to Owen Bistro for my birthday and honestly left pretty disappointed. The food itself was just... okay. Nothing really stood out except, strangely enough, the salty butter that came with the bread (that was actually excellent). Everything else was pretty bland and average, and clearly catered to a very mild palate. The "off the menu Chocolate Cake" was, unfortunately, the worst cake I've ever had. It was so dense my fork could barely get through it, bitter, and just not enjoyable. And that's coming from someone who cooks and bakes. Zero out of ten on that one. I barely touched it and it was also my birthday which our waiter knew so honestly, I was expecting him to at least give us a percentage off of the cake since it was almost untouched and I let him know how unhappy I was with it, but he just really kind of seemed dismissive. Service also missed the mark. The waiter opened by telling us how tired he was, which is just not something you say to guests right as they sit down. Later, we waited about 15 minutes just to get a dessert menu, only for him to come back and say he had already put in our dessert orders... which we never actually made because he never brought the menu we asked for. The restaurant itself isn't particularly aesthetic, so you can't even get nice photos to make up for the mediocre experience. I initially came to give 3 stars, because I enjoyed the patio ambiance and live music. However, the bathrooms here have no soap. For being the only restroom in the building and no soap is disgusting. That means that STAFF DOES NOT WASH HANDS, super gross. Really makes you question If they are properly handling our food In the back of the house. We spent about two hours there. I let staff know when I first got there, that there is no soap. Then at the end of the night, I went back and still no soap. They told me to go to the men's restroom- which by the way had an extremely strong urine smell. All of this really does note exude a fine dining experience and leaves a lot to be desired from Owen's Bistro. Topping that off with a hidden 20% service charge which is not clearly stated on the bill, which means customers are double tipping. We left 20% on top of 20%, I felt like the bill was really high for what we got. How are we suppose to know when they are not forthcoming. Super shady and really really bad business! read more
