We ordered dinner from there tonight and as it so happens we were missing 1 item. I tried calling back to the restaurant but no answer. But then just a few minutes later the delivery guy shows back up with our missing item and a free dessert! Now that's great service and truly appreciated. How much do I love Yelp? A whole lot. Why? I would never have found this place without it. After seeing Joe. F.'s ROTD on this place I bookmarked it and decided to give it a go when I needed pizza sometime. Joe F., you have gained some serious food cred in my book. Let's just get down to it here- The Italian Calzone is frickin mind-blowing. My wife and I really were not expecting anything too special but this thing was a round-house kick of flavor to the tongue. Indulge me here for a moment: 1. Hot, crispy dough, with a thin coat of butter and a dusting of garlic salt and parmesan. Yes please. 2. The perfect blend of hot, melted cheeses- mozzarella and ricotta. The ricotta snuck up on me like a dairy ninja and destroyed all attempts to eat this thing civilized-like. We devoured like hungry wolves. 3. Loaded with luscious, salty Italian meats- ham, capicola, pepperoni, and salami. Need I say more? Probably one of the greatest Italian creations I have ever put in my mouth. We also had the brushetta, which was good but not as great as the calzone. The menu is huge, so it seems imprudent to go higher than 4 with such a narrow sampling of items but, seriously, if you don't like this calzone, you may not have much hope for this world. (must get tiresome, always being right, wouldn't know myself). Three of us split a large 3 topping pizza on special for $10.00 and an order of Jalapeno poppers. We had one slice as a leftover, even. I assume this is a lunch dine-in special since the regular menu price would be about $15. We liked the pizza crust. It was NY style, with a nice crustiness to the dough. It held up to the fresh ingredients well. The cheeses were tasty and appropriately stringy. The sauce was about the right amount for a thinner crust pizza. The toppings were generous and covered the entire pizza. (Don't you just hate it when you get a pizza where they leave a huge outer ring of crust with no sauce and toppings? I know I do!) The jalapeno poppers were a generous serving as well at $3.99. There must have been 5 or 6 of these. (I forgot to count before we dug in, and after they were eaten, it was too late to count them). Two of us loved them, and the ranch dressing they came with. One of us wasn't all that fond of the orange cheese on the inside. Different tastes, eh? The place was decorated OK, but I wouldn't think this would make a "romantic evening" kind of place. They also serve beer and wine. No, we didn't try any because it was the middle of the day, for Chrissakes! They have a rather extensive menu, with lots of things like calzones, pastas, wings, subs and wedgies (whatever that is?) Pizzarella is very convenient for me, so my roomie and I tend to eat it more than we probably should. The menu offers your common Italian dishes (Salads, Pastas, Hoagies, Pizza, Calzones, Sandwiches). It's your run-of-the-mill, strip mall Italian joint. They do serve alcohol, which is rare for the type of place that it is. The interior is very casual, somewhat small. They have a nice patio area as well, where they once allowed me to have my dog. The people are friendly, although not the most efficient folks. The food is decent, the breadsticks are out of this world (hence the three stars). Everything here is always better fresh rather than delivered. UPDATE: Pizzarella changed the recipe. I recently ordered pizza, and it was completely different, a major improvement! Stop by this place craving a pasta dish. Let me just share the moment I walked in I was greeted by Carlos. I am a foodie as well in the industry so I tend to ask a few questions. Carlos was so knowledgeable of the menu which guided me to ordering the Lasagna. I was very impressed with the flavors from the sauce, herbs and cheese. Was so tasty and the portion is enough for 2 more treats. Came with a Cesar Salad and very good garlic bread. I will diffently be back to try more... Pizzarella is actually pretty good, especially when compared to all of the chains in the area like Macaroni Grill or the Olive Garden. The place is cozy and well lit at the same time, with two TVs - one generally shows sports and the other just regular TV (Family Guy, for instance). They have a beer and wine selection and the menu includes a lot more than pizza. Wedges are like calzones, and are pretty good. Its generally akin to most one-off suburban Italian restaurants but the personal feel inside makes it a better choice than the chains. There is a patio outside as well. read more

I live right next to Pizzarella, so when we moved in I was really excited. I was excited for a local place that isn't a big national chain with shitty quality and customer service. Sadly, Pizzarella turned out to be a local place with shitty quality and customer service. The pizza is okay, but oddly it tastes better reheated the next day. I don't know if that it's undercooked in the first place or if reheating just kills some of the boring taste. The customer service isn't great. I really don't understand if I have just had the misfortune of going to this place on their "off" days because we all have them... or if the other reviewers have the luck of going the one day the people who work there actually care about your order. Whenever I'd call to order, I was always put on hold for at least a few minutes right when they answered. Okay, if they're busy, that's good. means everything will be fresh and tasty as they're popular, right? not really... Can barely get a word in edge-wise with the person taking my order. Whenever I'd walk in and order a pizza to go for us for dinner, they would very brusquely take my order and then just pretty much walk away. Also, I find it disturbing that they don't make their own crust. They don't even re-heat frozen dough, it's shipped to them in giant plastic bags, already formed and looking like it's partially (if not completely) cooked. I can go to the store and buy pre-cooked pizza dough, too. Would probably be cheaper and might have more flavor, anyway. It's not god-awful pizza that will kill you or make you sick. Wow and I mean wow! They have a fantastic menu and not at all too expensive in some areas. I tried the Greek pizza and it is amazing! A pizza with lamb gyro meat, feta cheese, tomatoes and extras! Oh my I was in heaven! The first time I got a pizza delivered. The second time I actually went in and sat down. This time I got a gyro and they are also the best! Pizzarella answered my sick husband's prayers on Saturday night. He was really hungry for chicken noodle soup, but his lazy wife didn't want to go out in the rain. I knew Pizzarella had soup, but it's usually minestrone or potato. I called to see what they had, and WALLA...they had chicken noodle on the menu that night! I ordered him two bowls so he could have one for the next night as well. I got my regular spaghetti and meatballs...YUM! The soup hit the spot (and the serving size was HUGE). Unfortunately, I was also feeling lazy, so delivery was required. Thanks to several helpful reviews from my fellow yelpers, I decided to give Pizzarella a shot. The menu offered a plethora of options ranging from custom pizzas to pasta to sandwiches. After obsessing over all of the topping choices, I decided to build my own small pizza and hope for the best. And there was dessert! Tempting, indeed. I called in semi-late on a Sunday night hoping they weren't shutting down early or out of certain things. Thankfully, both the person taking my order via phone & the delivery driver were helpful & friendly. I was told a delivery time of around 45 minutes &, sure enough, I had my meal in hand at exactly the 45 minute mark. Well played, gentlemen. I tried a small pizza topped with pepperoni, artichoke hearts, and banana peppers. Yes, I'm aware that the toppings are an odd combination, but just go with it. The crust was cooked just right - not too mushy, but not too firm. It was on the thinner side, which is great for me since I've never been a huge fan of the thick pan style dough. The tomato sauce was good and used sparingly, which was also appreciated. There was a ton of cheese stacked on my pizza, so yay for that! However, I felt that the cheese was meant to hide the fact that they were a bit stingy with the toppings. I got a small sample of the three toppings I ordered, but I think they could have tossed on a bit more for the price. Don't get me wrong, the cheese was gooey & tasty, but I'd like a little more bang for my buck. Oh, and I broke down and ordered a slice of cheesecake as well. My options were plain or strawberry, but I wasn't much in the mood for a sugary fruit topping. I stuck with the plain and was not disappointed at all by the smooth texture and light crust. I wanted to order some iced tea, too, but they only deliver bottles of Lipton or Green Tea. Last review almost one year ago, but this one is necessary. Stopped in at my fave neighborhood pizza spot for a thin crispy crust pizza, with spinach, tomatoes, roasted red bell peppers and sausage. As always, simply delicious; sprinkled with lots of red pepper flakes and grated Parm. Yum, yum, yum. Gino, you made probably my most best pizza here ever !! $36 for 2 medium 2 topping pizzas and an order of pepperoni rolls wouldn't be that big of a deal if the dominos pizza across the street didn't put out a better pizza for 1/2 the price. Tasted like a frozen 99 cent Totinos from Wal-mart. Poor quality toppings, not much cheese and tasteless crust. I'd seen such great reviews on Yelp about Pizzarella that I thought I must try it. It was fine, but not as spectacular as the raving reviews. The Pizza was good, but the fact that the placemats give away the name of their pizza supplier means you really aren't getting much more authentic than any other pizza place in Dallas. A little disappointing. Ill give the pros and cons. Me and a date went on a slow weeknight, maybe 4 tables occupied. I wont be back. Makes me sad because I love supporting small local establishments..not when they are sub par though. Cons 1.A big table came in around the same time, the waiter basically told us firmly to order faster so that we wouldn't get stuck behind theirs. The place was dead. A little rude 2. My date asked for no peppers on her entree, but received tons on her salad. The waiter didn't seem to care to make the connection. 3. Very cold inside. They to get a better heater. 4. Waiter got my dates order wrong, brought her shrimp when she ordered chicken. He seemed annoyed but I heard her order it. Also brought me the wrong salad when I ordered a Caesar. All these aren't a big deal if they were busy, but they weren't. Pros 1. The food was fresh, salads very crispy. 2. Semi friendly waiter back up, not so much the waiter. 3. The pizza at Pizzarella is good. The calzones there awesome! I have had the pizza there once and it was pretty normal. I am not sure what it is about the calzones, but they are just so tasty. It could the garlic butter sauce but who knows. I met the owner once and he was very nice. He even let us taste test a new dessert which was good. read more

When I tried Pizzarella, I expected another fast food pizza chain. I was wrong. The first time I ordered, I tried a calzone with chicken, mushrooms, onions, and tomatos. It was really good, and stuffed full of toppings. The portions were generous, and enough for 2+ people. I was thoroughly impressed. The second time I ordered a steak gyro. A M A Z I N G. The meat was exceptionally tender. The cucumber sauce was perfect, and the pita bread was really soft. The lettuce, tomato, and onion were really fresh. I have to say that i'm suprised to find a gyro THAT good outside of a greek restaurant. The customer service is great. The employees at this restaurant really know the product they sell and can tell you the best things on the menu. I will never go back to dominos, or pizza hut. This place is delicious. read more

Meh. If you're desperate to eat, and since there feels like only about 5 restaurants west of Midway in Carrollton (*excluding "old Downtown" if you care for that*), then okay, it's not BAD; it's just lame quality and speed. And not cheap lame. Really the only reason to go here is for people in the close neighborhood wanting to take the family out for a quiet little mom and pop shop pizza. It's not great, not cheap, but it's the only "neighborhood place." Kind of the opposite of, say, bustling Chili's. I'd take Chili's for food and service and price in an instant, by the way, along with "The Diner" and Pete's and...well, I can't immediately think of any others (west of Midway, besides "downtown") except Wendy's and Jack In The Box and fast food and donut shops. Specifically I have had Calzone, Pizza and gyros. After unimpressive fare on all 3 - foods which actually excite me at other places - I'm through giving them more chances to win me over. P.S. It's impossible to reach unless you're driving east or south (north is possible if you hit it right). And when you find a parking spot, it will be on the wrong side from the door that's not blocked off :) read more

I generally really like Pizzarella, though it is pricier than a typical chain like Pizza Hut. We ordered two medium pizzas & breadsticks for delivery, and the cost was $25 before gratuity. We have had one negative experience. We waited 45 minutes for delivery, opened the box, and the pizza wasn't cooked all the way. We let them know, and they returned 30 minutes later with a new pizza. They made us give them the old pizza and didn't offer us any other compensation/incentive to return. To us, that is "ehh" customer service. read more

Moved to Carrollton, TX from St. Louis 2 years ago and we just happened to try this the 3rd night being Texans. Man 'O' Man, I am so glad we popped in and ordered a Pie. We always go with the loaded Pizzarella Special and it never disappoints. It is a bit pricier than the large chains, but we are OK with this. Always have and will support small local business and with pizza this good only makes it that much easier. My inlaws came in to visit from St. Louis and they liked it as well. The sauce is a bit sweeter than up north, and the crust a bit thicker. I suggest this place to everyone who has never heard of it. read more

We just moved into our new apartment and I noticed this place across the street. With the moving boxes stacked to my neck in the kitchen, there was no way I was going to cook. So I decided to take the 30second drive to Pizzarella and try it out. First impressions: Typical mom and pop pizza joint...except with a lot of gyros and Mediterranean-inspired flavors. Interesting. But whatever. I'm a vegetarian and had no problem finding something to order. I got the Mediterranean pizza just for shits and giggles. The food: OK. Not bad. But not great. Cafeteria-esque in quality but the cheese tasted fresh and good. The put A LOT of cheese on their pizza--so be aware. The service: The guy was a little curt at the counter but hey, they were half and hour from closing, so I get that. Still, this seems like a place where you seat yourself, shut up, eat your food, and get out. No one is going to ask: "How is everything tasting?" here. No one is going to talk to you except to take your order. Which is fine, I guess. Still, the atmosphere seemed somewhat aloof. All in all...OK. A solid 3/5 stars. First time at this place. Ordered Chicken Parmesan and Gyro platter. Chicken Parmasean was amazing! Had a very rich flavor to it and the portion was big enough to feed 2. Gyro's cucumber sauce seemed like it was homemade and it delivered exactly what it was suppose to. Great taste. Only odd thing was that the Gyro platter came with Gyro and potato wedge? Perhaps replacing the wedges with something more "Greek" would be a better combination...maybe like a Greek salad or something. One of my local favorites. This is the place I like to go either after late night football games when everything except McD is closed or when I need a good lubch. Nothing here is really gourmet but it's all done really well. I love the seafood calzone and the Greek pizza. Owner is an incredible guy and he's the kind of owner who likes to get to know you and says hello when you come back. They also regularly offer me a free drink while I wait for a pickup order. The the staff was very nice... I have no complaints about that.... I ordered the appetizer meatballs with garlic bread and the antipasto salad.... The meatballs, first was the taste, it was like they were straight from Sam's club freezer section. I wasn't expecting true authentic cut with a knife and fall apart meatballs but I wanted to atleast be able to cut and not have a "rubbery" feel to them. The overall flavor tasted like typical freezer section meatballs. Very plain and the sauce couldn't even penetrate the meatball with the rubbery texture. I was willing to let that slide and just not order again... but then I opened my salad... The antipasto was to have no green peppers and no tomotoes... when I opened the salad a pungent smell of green peppers came from the container....again trying to take it with a grain of salt.. I removed the peppers and as I was removing them there were quite a few tomatoes as well so I removed them... I requested Italian and Greek dressing and only got the Italian.. the consistency on the dressing I couldnt really pour over my salad and the 2 small cups I did receive wouldnt have even covered 1/2 of the salad... I was dipping pieces of the salad in the dressing. The pepperonis tasted fine but the salami and ham tasted old.. I was afraid to eat it. I have a feeling these salads are pre made maybe a day or 2 ahead of time because like the green peppers the taste of them were folded into the entire dish and that's all I could taste. Needless to see I ate about 6 pepperonis and the the large container away. My friend got the pepperoni calzone and said it was ok. He ate his that's why I am giving 2 stars for that... I cant give any stars for the meatballs or the salad they were bad and those 2 things alone were $17.00. I rather gone to salada and got a salad I loved! Really disappointed. I went to add some pepper flakes to my pasta, and in comedic fashion the whole lid came off the shaker and ruined my food. I tried to make it work but the food was not edible. I told them I didn't need it remade because my palate was already fried trying to eat it. They took off $3 instead of the full $15 for the pasta and when we told them that wasn't very fair and we wouldn't be coming back they didn't seem to care. As someone who has years in hospitality this is really disgraceful. Would not recommend. read more

After very little convincing, me and the girlfriend met up with fellow Yelpers Samantha D. and Chad B. to see why they were so in love with Pizzarella. I now understand. We got there around 9 so it was pretty dead inside, but they encouraged us to have a seat, have a beer and take our time with figuring out what we want to eat. Well, you don't have to tell me twice. You certainly don't have to tell me twice when the beers are $2 for a gigantic mug. Yea, you read that right. Two-mother-effing-dollar-beers. And these weren't little piddly glasses either. They were big, filled to the brim (with beer, not foam) ice cold mugs. And I don't think I can say this enough. . .for $2. OK, mini-fit over. . .on to the food. We were assured the calzone would be big enough to split so we opted for chicken (diced chicken, ricotta, mozzarella and tomato sauce) with extra sauce on the side and, at Samantha D's request, garlic butter on the side as well. First of all, this thing was massive. Part of me was glad we decided to split it, but part of me was sad I didn't get my own so I could have some for lunch today. The calzone was piping hot with a nice dusting of salt and parmesan on the outside of the buttered dough (which led to incessant finger licking on my part. . .maybe it's a good thing we were the only ones in the place). The inside was a traffic jam (in the best way) of cheeses, sauce and diced chicken. This thing weighed at least 4lbs and it only cost $10. . .seriously, where's this place been all my life? We developed a pretty awesome way to enjoy the calzone: First scoop all the cheesy, chicken goodness out of the inside of the bread, eat it with a fork making sure to dip each bit into the sweet, tangy tomato sauce (finally an Italian restaurant that's heard of basil and oregano!). Next, tear off little bits of the breading and submerge them in the heavenly garlic butter sauce. Then, lick you fingers. Finally, stop crying because it's so good and compose yourself. . .you're in a restaurant and they're going to cut you off if you don't knock it off. Repeat. The garlic butter makes the meal. . .I don't know what it is about it. They haven't reinvented the wheel with it by any means, but for some reason it's just so darned delicious that we had a serious dinner table debate about bathing in it (we're fun people). Pizzarella is my new pizza spot of choice. They even said they'd deliver to me even though I'm a hair outside the normal delivery zone.
