Let me start with after almost thirty years of trying, I have finally found an outstanding pizazz pizza that I actually enjoy. It would be more like forty and some odd years, but I didn't know anything of pizazz until I was about ten or twelve years old. Even to this day, the entire concept bothers me, and I will not order it when I see it on a menu, and am actively averted by it and its presence when at an event or someone's home when ordered. Until I went out on a limb and had the opportunity, and the fortitude to try the pizazz from Pizza Shack. If you do not know what pizazz is, it is unique to South Philly, and involves hot banana peppers, and usually American cheese. I have had it a few times in the past, and have found it horrifyingly off-putting due to the sole cheese element being American cheese, but being assured by the friend who ordered from here, that a blend was used to really take it up a notch, I capitulated, and boy, was I happy I did!!! We also had a cheesesteak square pizza and some delicious medium hot wings which were also cooked wonderfully, and were outstandingly crispy, yet juicy and full of moist flavor from the fryer. While the pizazz was definitely the star of the show; (something I can honestly say I would never have thought I'd ever say in this lifetime), everything was just perfect. It was all delivered and arrived extremely quickly considering this was the evening of a major event going on in the city, causing restaurants, especially those delivering, to have very high order volumes. The quality and speed is a testament to the care they are putting in here in providing great, simple food to the neighborhood, and if I am in the area, and ordering this kind of stuff, Pizza Shack will be at the top of my list. All that said, I did not have a chance to go to their actual location or interact directly with the staff, other than the delivery person, because my friend had ordered the food over the phone. But he has been going there for years, even before the restaurant had changed hands, and he has been telling me about it for years; for as long as I have known him, in fact. Bottom line is that you should definitely try Pizza Shack if you are in the area, and if you've never had pizazz, or the whole concept has turned you off, this is the place to give it a shot. First time trying this pizza place and I will never order from this place again! I had ordered a white pizza from the online menu that was supposed to have spinach, garlic and ricotta cheese on it. I ended up getting pizza that had just cheese on it and it was oily. When I called them to let them know about the mistake the person on the phone argued with me and put me on hold. I waited and then hung up. Called back and said I was too hungry and will never order from this place again. I took a couple of bites of the pizza, and it was awful!! Tasted like cardboard and the pizza was overcooked. It was oozing oil! I do not know where they get their dough, but it was not good dough. I ended up throwing it away!! Go-to neighborhood pizza spot. Cheesesteaks during the day are good, decent variety of everything else. Never disappointed.

I like the $8.50. I like the place, nice and clean. I like the people, very friendly and welcoming. I like the ingredients. Standard pizza shop cheese steak roll, a touch bready. The meat was good a little thicker slice but I think he was overpowered by the extras. The extras are good, nice big pieces. I got the Steak Royale. It came with mushroom, green peppers, fried onions and marinara. The mushrooms, green peppers and fried onions were bigger pieces like you find on a pizza. They were good but I think they were better suited for a pizza. The pizzas did look delicious. Everyone that came in while I was waiting got a pizza. Great South Philly traditional pizza. Their cheese steaks are good because they have a lot of meat and the sandwich is full. Place gets very busy on Fridays so call ahead. Pizza is consistently good. Have to eat it HOT! This is still my local pizza place "go to". read more

Pizza shack was close to my address but I never ordered from here because of the yelp reviews (not stellar at the time of rating). I wish I had taken a risk earlier because this pizza is absolutely amazing! The dough isn't too thick nor is it too thin and the sauce isn't obnoxiously sweet either. The pizzas served here are borderline the best in South Philly. I've ordered three times from here and had a delicious pie each time. I'm not sure why their yelp reviews dont reflect the quality of the pizza, but I can assure you this pizza is purely five star. read more

I am originally from south philly and now live in south jersey but when I really want some good pizza I take the ride back into Philly to reminisce and order pizza from here and bring it back. Pizza is a simple thing good dough, sauce and cheese but this place just does it right. I love the texture of their crust. I usually have to order toppings on my pizza (pepperoni) but their pizza is so good I'm content with just a cheese pizza cause it tastes that good I don't need the extras. We've had everything but a cheeseburger here, and that's next. Oh and breakfast. We have not tried their breakfast yet but may soon. The wings were awesome! Hot, spicy like a franks red, but hotter. The Cheesesteak was awesome. All their pizzas were awesome. We had grubhubbed once , but it's not really necessary if you're close enough by. They have their own drivers and are great to just call and get pickup or delivery. The hoagies are huge and can usually be on regular or seeded rolls, we've tried both! Ordered online through their website. I have been waiting an hour and a half with no delivery yet! Estimated arrival from my 5:48 order time was 6:35-6:45. It's now 7:15. I tried to call at the hour mark and got a busy signal over and over and over. Finally got a call to go through only with an automated message that plays on a loop. Very disappointed! I'm a very understanding person. You're busy! Fine!! But I can't even get a hold of the restaurant to confirm that you're busy! Don't estimate times if they are this inaccurate! Great pizza! Great hot wings! Pretty good delivery times, always great service. The pizza has a soft thin hand tossed style crust that doesn't hold up well when it's covered in a lot of cheese, sauce, and toppings but that's how I like my pizza! It's what my fiancé and I refer to as ninja turtle pizza, Cheesy gooey goodness! If you prefer a thin crisp crust pizza that lacks adequate sauce/cheese but holds its shape in your hand this probably isn't for you. Stromboli's are great here. That's what I usually order/eat with my family. I highly recommend the cheesesteak and the pepperoni ones. I've been watching what I'm eating so I ordered a chicken caesar wrap while my family got the usual Stromboli's. the wrap was okay. The fiance and I got a few slices after an event at Wells since it was in proximity to the BSL. Wasn't expecting much. This may have been the best plain pizza I ever had. Flavorful without being greasy. Soft fluffy crust. Wasn't burnt or undercooked. The sauce was savory and sweet. Right in the sweet spot. And the cheese was just prefect. Cheese steak Stromboli was life altering. First time ordering here saw they offered a pizza + Stromboli + 2 liter and ordered to watch some football. Not only was the Stromboli offered as a side unexpected the the thing rocked my world. Different from your typical Stromboli, bread was breadier than doughy. Think baked cheese steak. We were just happening to walk by and got curious. Didn't bother to check yelp, just decided to give the place a shot. Coronavirus- style, we called from just outside, placed our order, continued our walk and came back well after it was ready. The three workers inside were very friendly and kind. We walked the 15 minutes home to eat it, and it was still pleasantly warm. We had a spinach and cheese Stromboli and it was delicious! They put almost no sauce on their pizza. I always ask for extra sauce and they used to put lots of extra right on top (almost too much, a little soupy, but whatever). Recently they started charging $1 more for extra sauce which was completely fine with me except that they didn't put any extra sauce!! I posted some pics to show how large parts of the pizza have literally no sauce on them. The pizza is also very doughy and you have to ask for it well done to get it even a little crispy. One had half pepperoni half sausage and last night half sausage half plain and literally zero complaints. The pizza was great and the cheese fries were amazing! Ordered directly from their site in the afternoon was able to add delivery time it was perfect and on time! My reasoning for 4 stars and not 5, although I am sure we will be ordering again soon I can't get past the $2 delivery charge like is that for the driver or not? how much should I tip the driver? Waited for months for their re-grand opening and it was so much worth the wait!!! Hands down one of the best pizzas in south philly (for some reason I feel the small size tastes the best!!) . After revamping their shack, they definitely redid their menu with even better tasting ingredients. They also changed their grubhub options and although there isn't a minimum per delivery anymore, there is a high $4 fee for delivery, BUT it is still worth it! Was in town visiting my bf and after his game we were both hungry so I started looking up places and mentioned this place and he raved about how good this place was. So we ordered a large pizza and did half the Mediterranean white and grilled chicken. OMG this was the best pizza I've ever had in my life! I want to move to Philly just to eat this pizza! The crust was thin and crispy and the spinach was not dried out like other places I've had. It was all fresh ingredients and freshly cooked even though they were about to close. The chicken was actually sliced chicken breast not that ground pieced together kind of chicken I've had at other places! Will definitely order from there again on my next trip! Pizza Shack defined what pizza was for me as a kid. My family didn't get delivery or eat out often but, when we did, it was typically Pizza Shack or Cacia's. We'd order Pizza Shack on some Friday nights before heading over to St. Monica's Fathers and Sons league to play hockey. I didn't care that I'd be running around for the following two hours, I would still gorge myself. Fortunately, since the slices were cut so small, eating four pieces wasn't as terrible as it sounded but it was still enough to give me a belly ache during my game. To this day, I have never had another pizza that tastes like Pizza Shack. I was temporarily breaking my veganism after 5 years and looking to order some pizza with my friends. I was pretty specific about what I was looking for- I didn't want anything fancy, I didn't want anything too thick or too thin, I wanted a good old slice of street pizza (if that makes sense to anyone) I actually chose the Shack for 2 reasons: the wonderful aroma pouring out of it one night as I ran by and the pictures on yelp. My friends and I ordered a large cheese pizza, a spinach stromboli, curly cheese fries and tossed salad. The pizza was great- not AMAZING but i blame myself for this because I forget to request they put a good amount of sauce and bake it well done. But still tasted awesome. Unfortunately the strombolis are pre-made there. I know this because I placed the order online and got a call from the shack letting me know I could not keep the order as is with the extra ingredients inside that I requested. I really don't understand why their online ordering system allows you to create your own stromboli when it's not an option and I still need to go back and check that I was not charged for the extras. And it makes me wonder if they pre-make the stromboli or do they buy them and their other foods frozen?? It didnt taste great so it's a possibility. The curly cheese fries had velveeta or some type of whiz and it just isn't my thing. The fries were crazy soggy and the cheese way too heavy and intense. The salads were generously large and good.
