PJs will always be an institution! Yes they make delicious fried clams and lobster rolls, but don't sleep on their other dinners. We just wanted a light snack because it was a little late in the day. A friendly woman (who I believe was an owner) was training someone and recommended the tuna sashimi dinner. We got that and a cup of their amazing clam chowder and it was perfect. The fish was fresh as was the rice and salads. Later in the week we returned for fried clams, scallops, and a fish dinner which were equally perfect. See you next year! read more

In search of a new seafood shack after breaking up with Arnold's for ethnical reasons, I chose PJ's for my yearly fix of fried seafood. We ate on the patio on a high top table near a screen window, which was lovely. The biggest advantage over Arnold's is that the joint is BYOB. That's a rare thing in the Cape. The fried cod was flaky, lightly coated, and perfectly fried with an abundant amount of homemade French fries, a roll, and standard fare Cole Slaw. The roll is unnecessary, in my opinion. Missing having onion rings on the menu. Arnold's (and the old Liam's at Nauset Beach) made the best. Condiments are serve-yourself, but you'll have to ask the host for lemon slices. We'll return for fried food but will continue to search other locales. We went back the next night for ice cream and it was just average. $5 for a small scoop in a bowl, we were charged more for a small sundae than what was advertised on the board, and service was very slow. However, the sundae hit the spot and they didn't skimp on the hot fudge and walnuts. read more

I visit the cape for a week every year, and discovered this awesome spot a few years ago. I was first drawn in with the coffee ice cream soft serve. Sooo good. I have since expanded my experience to include other soft serve flavors (coffee/black raspberry twist...yum!), as well as food items. This year the experience was made even more special with a new employee, Harry, who is so helpful and pleasant. What a great addition! We spent a lot of time and money here over the last 2 weeks on our vacation. As we were stopping in for an ice cream on our way home, we got a sundae made with the wrong kind of ice cream. It was made small to begin with, and then there was a huge line so it was further melted. My son got to the window and was accused of trying to "steal" another sundae. That hits especially uncomfortably when your kid is not white. I am super disappointed that the sundae wasn't just remade correctly and my child was spared being accused of something he didn't do. The second sundae wasn't made well either. We have been moving away from this spot anyway-- poor service, long waits, food quality isn't great and prices keep soaring. Excellent spot on the cape for fresh and tasty seafood! I believe they're only open during the summer weather and they help employ kids for the break. There is indoor seating and seating in the covered patio. Love sitting in the covered patio as it's nice and shaded being outdoors. Service is fast and they're so kind! For food I normally get the fisherman's platter with an assortment of things. The shrimp is plump and juicy and their tar tar sauce is so so good! I usually get a side of the steamers too because they always hit the spot. To wrap it up, go get soft serve at the takeout counter outside. read more

PJ's is a stand out among roadside eateries. Yes, they do fried fish and lobster rolls and a whole lot of other options including a good variety of salads. We visited because we wanted some fried fish (although we'd driven by PJ's many times and seen the crowds, we'd never stopped). Yelp reviews were so good we decided to go out of our way to try it. The oyster roll was delicious and the fries were the best I've had in a very long time. Crispy, hot and still soft inside. Wife had the clam strip roll and she was very happy too. The staff was friendly and constantly in motion. If they weren't taking care of a customer, they were cleaning. The place was spotless. Obviously a well-managed team. This is for their Eastham location. Had a great meal there and the staff was so friendly the first time we went. I think they had just opened the location so the staff was still figuring out how the order system worked. I asked for bacon on my baked potato and after some figuring out, they were able to make the system work. The cobb salad was excellent. Liked it so much we brought friends again in the same week. I ordered the baked potato again. Again I requested bacon on it again they had a hard time entering it into the system and had to ask a manager how to do it. But this time I was informed that if they are too busy they cannot put bacon on a baked potato - it's too complicated (?). Mind you the food is really good.This time I got the half rack of baby back ribs - highly recommend! But I probably won't go back because the manager made it feel like she was doing me a huge favor by charging $2 for bacon instead of appreciating the fact that I was patronizing their restaurant. A local and summer resident and passing-through-Wellfleet fav spot for Lobster roll, grilled tuna, grilled cheese, chicken tenders, Cobb salad with lobster, and ice cream! I forgot to take a picture of the ice cream as it was dripping quickly! Friendly staff ready to serve with a smile and the take out and dine in areas are clean. Stopped in on the way to Provincetown to give their lobster roll a shot. But then I spotted whole belly clams in the menu and that's what I got! It was a huge platter filled with delicious - not greasy - fried whole belly clams. French fries were great and I even liked the little roll served up with a small pat of butter for extra carbs. On our way back from Provincetown, my family and I wanted a quick bite and saw that this place was bustling. We assumed it was good if it was busy and boy was that assumption was right. The stuffed clams were fresh and flavorful. I didn't think chorizo would be a great addition to the stuffing. The staff was friendly and the service was very quick. Update: stopped in to try their ice cream and it was really good! We stopped at PJ's to grab some snacks to share. We ordered onion rings, mozzarella cheese sticks and french fries. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. This place has a huge menu and you can get anything from a meal to snacks to ice cream. Seems like they have something for everybody. The new seating & tables make no sense and are quite uncomfortable. The benches are just not meant for sitting. The tables are much too high for the tables. We got the lobster rolls, and the lobster was fresh, the rolls were perfect. I'm gluten free (celiac) and they asked if it was an allergy or by choice for food preparation which was thoughtful. They made sure to prepare mine separately to avoid cross contamination. The gluten free bun was nice (not a brick)! The rolls were on the expensive side, and you would think it would come with a salad, fries or coleslaw, something like that, but I guess it's just the time we are in these days. Came here with our family friends after not coming here for many, many years, and the food didn't disappoint. It's a classic institution for a reason, and they are known for their seafood items. You can order at either the outdoor area or inside the covered seating area, and then can find a table. We were a large group of 7 people and we got a little bit of everything: lobster rolls, steamed mussels, shrimp tacos, onion rings, a cheeseburger, fried clams and clam chowder. Good choice for classic shack fare. I got the fried whole belly clams plate with the coleslaw and fries. Coleslaw wasn't amazing but also wasn't disappointing, it was decent. Fries were deceptively good. The whole belly clams were great! They do not make their own tartar sauce, it's a mass produced one. The roll that came with the plate was a bad hard hotel roll, I would skip it. My friends who got the lobster were very happy and the one who got the steamed vegetables side said it was salted well but no other seasonings. read more

Disclaimer: I don't eat seafood. I've been here dozens of times. I actually don't love this place-but my family loves the clam chowder. The ambience is ultra casual, off the highway, "takeout" vibes but two dining rooms, one indoor and one screen covered on opposites ends. It was very confusing where you could/had to order, as their is an outdoor counter, indoor counter, and hostess in the patio. There were multiple signs about seeing the hostess to be seated in the patio but it seemed to just sit yourself. They also didn't bring the trays to the table. Totally fine, just confusing what the system was. This may be an excellent joint for seafood, but it's very poor if you don't eat seafood. I've had the veggie burger and remember being disappointed. The Asian salad with chicken is fine. Probably some of the worst mozzarella sticks I've had. The fries are disappointing as well. After a pleasantly warm afternoon at Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet, MA we were anxious to grab a bite at PJ's Family Restaurant off Route 6. The windows to order ice cream and food were open for business as well as the indoor dining area. We read the A-frame menu outside, then went up to hostess to place our order to dine inside. We ordered two 1.5lb. lobsters and two clam bakes. The food arrived quickly on paper plates with plastic utensils. The clams were mostly open and tasted delicious dipped in warm clam broth. We chewed with caution as the clams did have sand. The lobsters tasted fresh and were accompanied by a pad of butter and wedge of lemon. The restaurant was clean with quick and friendly service. We wished we had room for ice cream. This is a terrific place to grab a quick delicious dinner if you plan on catching a movie (i.e. In The Heights) at the Wellfleet Drive-In in the evening. read more

PJ's was recommended to my cousin by some relatives , so we made the trip from Provincetown to Wellfleet to check it out. Ate on the covered patio which was comfortable on a sunny spring day. You order at the register just inside the patio (NOT at the front take-out window), and they bring the food on a tray to your table. Ambiance is ultra-casual, kind of indoor picnic or tailgate style. Condiments are at a separate station and self-serve like Costco. What we got: 1) Lobster Rolls -- classic. Substantial hunks of fresh lobster served cold with just a bit of mayo/dressing on perfectly toasted bun. This is the platonic ideal of the traditional no-pretense lobster roll. My cousin keeps raving about how good it was and says she's coming back the next time she's in Massachusetts (we are from California.) You can appreciate the unique lobster flavors, not obscured by butter or too much other stuff. I have about 5-8 lobster rolls per year, and this one is in the top 3 of the past decade. 2) Coleslaw used super-fresh cabbage that was both crunchy and tender. Also very minimally dressed. Ideal for the purist-minimalist types. My cousin had a double portion and snarfed it up. The standard portion that comes with the lobster roll platter is served in a condiment cup, just a sample really. 3) French fries were excellent and crisp outside/soft inside. 4) Clam chowder had been mentioned by the relatives so I added it to my order. It's the thinner style broth (not the goopy kind you get from a Campbell's can.) I like this style, and I liked PJ's version, but in this case I thought the simplicity ended up being a little bland. My current favorite chowders in this style are the clam chowder at Fin Point in Boston and the smoky seafood chowder at the Squealing Pig in Provincetown (which adds a little smoked fish for flavor.) All in all, a fabulous lunch well worth driving 16 miles for. 5) Coke was as expected but the size is close to a child-size at a fast food joint, so size up if you're thirsty. read more
