Stopped in for a quick snack and bite. Service was prompt and friendly. Order up at the counter then pick it up when ready. We ordered their clam chowder (delicious) , the fried clam strips, and the fried whole-belly clams. Yeah, it's not health food, but it was exactly what we were craving. Prices were quite a bit higher than we expected, but it's been a while since so maybe that's what it costs now. Ideally would give it 3.5 stars, but will round up given how friendly everyone was. This was hit or miss with the menu. I came here during the off season so it was only opened a couple days out of the week. I had the fish and chips... which gave good portion of fish that was very very good. The batter they used for the fish was perfect. The fries were okay. Onion rings were great. It was Father's day and I had a craving for fried seafood. My wife daughter and I decided to take a drive down to Dennis to give The Original Seafood Restaurant a shot. We have always driven by it but never stopped in for some odd reason. There was plenty of parking when we arrived, and when we walked in we were greeted with a friendly smile. My wife and I decided to split the regular seafood platter (They also have a half size). My daughter got the chicken tenders with onion rings instead of fries as she does not like seafood. There was so much food we couldn't even finish it. The food was fresh and tasty. The counter staff was very friendly and accommodating. The place was very well kept and very clean. I waver back and forth between three (3) and four (4) stars for The Original Seafood. The word of this venue is GREASE. Here you can absolutely satiate your deepest and darkest desires for oil and smoke and fat and batter--all available menu items are fried. In fact, purportedly because of COVID-19, there is not a grilled item in sight: viral transmission is apparently greater via GRILL than GREASE, and as such The Grill is out of service. Very sad, and a single star has been deducted from this review for this reason. Nevertheless, for GREASE, The Original Seafood indeed delivers. At a reasonable price point for the market, you can get fried fishes or shrimps or clams or squids or potatoes or onions. No octopus though! It must be noted that the food is only tasty because of GREASE. In fact, all of the food tastes the same! I ate a fish and a squid tentacle and a squid torso and a potato and an onion and they all tasted the same! Flavor profile is Salt & Grease. Who knows what the quality of the seafood is because you cannot taste it, even if you try. Low effort and low cost, but the masses will come back stricken with desire for another rush of GREASE-driven dopamine. I used some ketchup and tartar sauce and even a little bit of marinara sauce to provide some diversity of flavor to the GREASE. The ambience is simple and the staff chronically mischarge customers and immediately realize their mistakes and make it known and apologize and charge you the difference. Learn from mistakes, they say, but said advice goes unheeded and unheeded again. Alas! When it comes down to it, The Original Seafood is a good annual venue at a good price point, with hefty and calorie-rich portions. Very friendly people work here. Helpful and nice people. Took our order and the food was fabulous! We had the lobster roll and the fish and chips with onion rings. Brought our dog so sat outside, the gave me a bowl for the dog without even asking. Food came out fast and was brought over to our table instead of calling us. My only thought is I have a little bit of a tough time paying full prices for a meal that comes out on paper plate with plastic utensils and no waitress service. This is abysmal flavorless fried seafood. I really don't know why people flock to this joint for seafood anything when there are a plethora of so many other good seafood joints in the area. Long John Silver's would taste better than this place. I'm not an angry yelper or trying to be mean. I'm not a food snob. Bad food is just bad food. We spent almost $40 here and walked away wanting to kick ourselves for taking a stranger's recommendation to come here. We're from out of town, spending a week in Yarmouth so we wanted to soak up as much local seafood as possible. Our server in another restaurant raved about The Original Seafood. Our dinner consisted of clam chowder, side salads, and fried shrimp/calamari/clams. The clam chowder tastes like grocery store average clam chowder. So go to the grocery store and pay less there. Don't buy it here. Our side salads (EXPENSIVE $6 each) consisted of just washed lettuce leaves - not cut, these were broken up big pieces. You can't mess up lettuce leaves but you also don't need to pay $6 for lettuce leaves! Go back to the grocery store and buy a bag salad that you'll enjoy more. Now the shrimp/calamari/clams - an expensive mess of fried tastelessness. If I closed my eyes and ate one, I wouldn't be able to distinguish clams from calamari. It all tasted the same. We spent 5 days in Cape Code; ate out almost every meal. This was hands down the worst thing and overpriced meal we consumed. I truly don't know what people see in this joint. read more

We go to the original once a week to have their paddock sandwiches, which are huge and so good.. last week my husband and I decided we would try the fisherman's platter and split it. OMG! Just had lunch there and it had been a couple of years since I'd been there..I live here on Cape Cod and was somewhat surprised at the prices. Although I did research and found they were in line with others like them. But what surprised me was when I got the bill ($60 for two of us for lunch ,no alcohol involved,) they informed me of a fee of $1.60 for using a credit card...really ? The fish sandwich was very good along with the onion rings. The broiled scallops $29.99 was not so good, seasoning was overpowering. I wanted to get the 1 pound lobster roll but couldn't see my self spending $82.99 for it....$82.99 (that's right). $32.99 for the smaller version. As far as the restaurant is concerned, my only questions is 'Did the Town of Dennis do away with their Board of Health department, or are they still out on Covid and getting paid ?' I ask this because the place is dirty and unhealthy looking. The air vents are covered in lint and dust, the floor if dank and looks dirty. One can only imagine what the kitchen is like if the dinning area looks like that. The ceiling vents are also filthy. There were only two people having lunch there at 12:47 pm which should of given me a clue right there. I'm sorry to say I won't be going back. Many years ago this place was the Kreme & Kone and they use to be lined out the door even after Labor Day. What a shame. read more

Really 3.5 and I go there at least once a summer when I need that fried seafood fix. Today their whole belly clam plate was at a special price, around $23. Clams good. I think that a few other Cape places have better tasting fries and onion rings. But these are fine. Food made to order. They work hard. I like the convenience of parking close. Old fashioned vibe. I'm not sure why, but I had stopped going here and started going to Kream n Kone. That was a mistake. I'm so glad Kream n Kone was busy and I said let's call the Original. Hands down a much better choice for us. We all agreed the onion rings were much better. The batter stays on the rings. They are thin crispy and delicious. My friend ordered a fish fry sandwich. It was so large she cut half of the fish off to have the next day. They offer a fisherman's platter with clams, scallops, shrimp and fish. One of our friends commented that the food was better than Baxter's in Hyannis. Wow! The Original will be our go to for take out seafood from now on. Decided to end the summer with some good old seafood. Unfortunately most of us are on a diet so we tried the broiled some of the bridled seafood items. Advice: stay away!! Broiled scallops were tiny as well as cocktail size shrimp. Flavorless with a bit of butter. Broiled Haddock: 5oz filet. Again, a sprinkle of wet bread crump topping with a bit of bitter. Tiny and flavorless. My son in law got some sort of chipotle shrimp wrap that was loaded with sauce and only a few tiny shrimp. What a mess to eat!! Best thing were the onion rings. Overall very poor quality and quantity of food. My hope is the owners take this criticism and make improvements in their quality before they go out of business. I just cane from original seafood. J got a grilled chicken sandwich from the second time, the first time it was just chicken and bread no condiment or seasoning. Yuck! Then second time I had hard time motivating to xook so I reluctantly got a sandwich from then this time I asked foe the condiments which they did but my chicken wa raw and still inseasoned, I had to go home and air fry it to doneness wtf. We've been a handful of times to Original and always had good service from staff and good food - as far as fried foods go! The original seafood restaurant on the corner of Route 28 and Sea St. in Dennisport am I opinion is hands-down the best seafood on Cape Cod!! This place has been in existence since 1953 although the building has changed over time. Every single time we walk in we are greeted with a huge hello how are you from behind the counter from it! This place is not a tourist trap but rather a locals gym gym. The place is always sparkling clean including the restrooms whenever something is needed the girls are right there did to help you out. My husband and I love this place! whenever we crave seafood it's around the corner we go to this little place there. There fish and chips is always haddock and you get two full fillets as well as a full portion of french fries and onion rings. Now I've got to tell you there's this seafood joint down the street that everybody raves about but I don't like it And I'll tell you why. First of all the original seafood restaurant never smells of old grease from the street the other place does! Original seafood restaurant gets their fish and seafood almost daily it's never frozen and it taste like it! The other place who knows? The original seafood restaurant also serves beer and wine but only inside. I highly highly recommend this place if you're anywhere mid Cape and you're craving any kind of seafood. This joint is Jumpin at dinner time when all the locals are coming in and picking up their orders to take out. Even though we're local we rather sit and enjoy your meal and watch everybodys big smiles! There's nothing wrong with a Cape Cod Classic. My baby sister is super obsessed with this place and I know why. The portions are HUGE! I'm not personally a seafood girl but the rest of my family is. While this place is rocking during the high point in the season you're served quick and fresh during the off season as well. I ended up having the chicken fingers and french fries which was way more than I could have ever eaten. The fried platters on our table had so much in terms of leftovers it was enough for at least two other meals. They've got a selection of beer and wine for those wanting an adult beverage with their fried fish feast. read more

We enjoyed a tasty lunch today at The Original Seafood Restaurant (527 Main Street, Dennis Port). This place has been around since the 1950s and I recall eating lunch there when I was a wee lad many decades ago. But I hadn't dined there as an adult, until today. My wife ordered their lobster roll with "extra crispy" fries, I ordered the fried whole belly clam roll and we split an iced tea. The lobster roll was stuffed with fresh lobster meat, easily 6 oz (for $29) with very light mayo and a properly toasted New England hot dog roll. [For those who want a larger lobster roll, they are available in 3/4 lb and 1 lb sizes with prces appropriate to their size.] My clams (at $27) were delicious--lightly fried, small whole bellies, crispy, consistently sized, tender to the tooth, and with a sweet after taste. And there were more than enough to share with my wife, so she could enjoy both flavor sensations. There were almost no crumbs in the bottom of the roll which is, for me at least, the sign of a good fry and there were no clumps of fried clams. We learned while dining there that the current owner--Mark--had just bought the place in May. He was behind the counter taking orders along with another friendly staff person. He's weathered the first summer of continuing the tradition of The Original and will remain open deep into the Fall, though they will close for a few months over the winter season. A lovely day for some beach time, a lobster roll, and fried clams. Worth a visit if you are in the area. read more

I came here when I was on vacation in Cape Cod with my boyfriend. It is on the main road and a close walking distance from the beach and a few hotels if you plan to stay in the Dennis Port area. The people who worked here were friendly locals. We asked them about a good beach and they recommended us one in walking distance which was great because we didn't have to pay the 20 dollar fee. The portion of food was huge! The prices were good, if you want seafood you know it is not going to come cheap. We got fried clams, which came with fries and onion rings. Everything tasted great! As for the restaurant itself it looked like maybe it could use a little renovation. The feel was pretty old and kind of dinery but if you get your food to go it should not be a problem.
