We finally tried PJ's Oyster Bar in Indian Rocks Beach after living nearby for years. Honestly, the lower star ratings had kept us away... and now I wish we had come sooner. This place has that classic laid-back beach seafood vibe with fun, colorful decor and really great outdoor seating. It feels relaxed and local, exactly what you want after a day near the water. The food was great! The seafood gumbo is outstanding. Rich, tomato-forward with just the right amount of spice and packed with seafood, vegetables, and rice. It's comforting and flavorful without feeling heavy. We also had fresh oysters that were clean, briny, and exactly what you hope for when you're this close to the ocean. My favorite was the blackened seafood combo. Perfectly seasoned shrimp and scallops with a beautiful crust from the blackening spices. Great flavor, juicy inside, and served with crispy house chips and slaw that kept the plate balanced and fresh. And a shout out to our server Nikki, who was fantastic. She was on point the entire time, super friendly, and brought such great energy to the table. Service like that makes the whole experience even better. If you've driven past and hesitated because of the reviews like we did, give it a try. It's one of those unpretentious local seafood spots that quietly delivers really solid food. We stumbled upon this place while trying to find dinner (on vacation, large party, no reservation). They have a large parking lot which is such a perk because so many restaurants are on the street or have valet parking (which we found so weird). They accommodated 8 of us for dinner swiftly. My husband got clams and oysters and got the shrimp tacos, which were surprisingly not upcharged just because of the shrimp option. Food was very good! And they gave us to go cups! Would recommend for anyone looking for a chill vibe. read more

I would say that in my opinion- patio is very nice but food is just ok. Not bad not great just OK. The oysters while tasting fresh were not shucked properly making them hard to eat. Probably would have given another star if I didn't spend nearly $20 to struggle getting them free from the shell. Server had "interesting" tattoo. Pj's Oyster Bar in Gulfport was damaged by the hurricane and I hear tell it won't reopen. So I made the trek to this location in Indian Rocks Beach. 1dozen raw Oysters, 1 dozen Chicago style baked Oysters, and 1 vodka martini for $60 (including tip). Not bad except that the Chicago baked oysters were not very good. They actually tasted like they had been in Lake Michigan! I lived in Chicago for 57 years and never heard of Chicago Oysters while I was there, only east coast or west coast oysters. Next time I'll stick with the raw oysters. My dinner companions tried baked scallops and scallops in a garlic butter wine sauce. Both dishes of Scallops were tasty, well prepared, and presented. read more

The decor is fun for the eyes but the smell of sewage takes away from the experience. Service was fast and friendly. Fried beer batter sandwich was a large portion but lacked any flavor, not even the fish itself. Super bland. PJ's used to be our number one go to place when we are down here for a week of Vacation. Been coming down for at least 20 years. The food is not what it used to be. My fried clams were very chewy. The one item I still enjoyed was the hush puppies. The service was great. Not sure we will go back. We did enjoy the music and atmosphere. read more

I am a huge sucker for oysters and I was so excited to try pjs oysters! I will say I was a tad disappointed when I got my baked oysters. The taste was great, super flavorful, but the size was tiny. I've ordered baked oysters for a while now, and I'm comparing them to others pjs was very average. Now the service was great and we had a super attentive server. We were sat immediately on a Saturday, early evening, which was a plus as well. I've been to pjs a few times and I have never had any issues with the services, but the food is usually sub par for what I am looking for. When it comes to the ambiance and the atmosphere of the restaurant I love it! It is retro and gives dive bar vibes! I still stand by one of their best meals is their grouper sandwich! read more

We were seated outside near a fan which to us was much better than being inside with the strong fishy smell. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu, made great recommendations, and was very attentive. The food was delicious. The only up side to this place was the server. He was on the ball and pleasant. The food was absolutely awful! Worst clam chowder I have ever had. Totally flavorless. The catfish was mushy and also flavorless. My kids enjoyed the gator bites. The restaurant was having a water shortage and they charged us for bottled water. If you are looking for a place to feel like tropical Florida ambience with outside tables and a large bar this is the place to go. We had an appetizer of hush puppies which were large and breaded and fried to golden deliciousness. We also had the delicious, breaded, buttery large scallops. This spot has so much potential. Unfortunately I was not too impressed. The mojito I got however was great and at the right price. The clam chowder I ordered, I felt like I was just eating cream ... did not have much flavor and way too many potatoes. My wife and I enjoy hitting PJ's on a Friday night during happy hour and sitting outside. Even in the summer it's not bad. The hostesses and servers are always friendly. We almost always grab the grouper sandwich with the house made chips and a drink. Great combo. read more
