The food is fantastic. We moved here from Hawaii and have missed authentic Thai food. This is some of the best we've had. What a gem in Savannah. Service is fantastic. We were surprised at the name change. Their menu now has a large offering of non-Thai food, which I'd imagine allows for a more varied clientele without hurting the deliciousness of their Thai food. We had the salmon salad (with the salmon grilled instead of fried) & the flavors were unique and delicious. Cilantro, a little spice, onions, & whatever magic ingredients they included made it so tasty! Yum! They had items on their menu that many Thai places don't serve, so we had a lot from which to choose. Everything was fantastic! We walk in and it's a lovely little restaurant, decor is nice and the staff is very friendly, lots of items on the menu but very simple and laid out, not to many people. Our appetizers came in very little time, we ordered the spring rolls, very fresh and very hot, the sauce that comes with it is fantastic, they were so good in fact we even started fighting over the leftover one, perfect appetizer to start. Our meal came as soon as we finished our appetizers, the Bangkok chicken was exploding with flavor, there was a side of rice and plenty of vegetables, the pad Thai was perfect, I've never had traditional pad Thai and it hit the spot, it came with carrots, bean sprouts and crushed peanuts, fantastic! we also ordered a side of chicken fried rice, totally amazing and a little bit of soy made it out of this world. Loved it! Went for lunch for a quick bite and was in a hurry. I ordered the Pineapple Curry Rice with cashews and steamed dumplings. The rice was seasoned very well, it wasn't too spicy, just enough kick to enjoy it, the pineapple pieces added that sweetness to the dish and the cashews gave it a nice crunchy texture. It was brought to our table surprisingly quickly and I even had left overs to enjoy it ALL OVER AGAIN! read more

Before PJ Thai, I never was a huge fan of thai food, and I only went because it is right around the corner from where I lived. I am glad I did! The food at PJ Thai is usually really good. I say usually, because I certainly had 1-2 (out of 30-40) occasions where I thought they could have used a bit more sauce, because the meat seemed a bit dry. I tried 6 or 7 different dishes so far, and the "disappointing" experiences were only occasional and not with specific dishes. I can really recommend the summer cashew, because it comes with enough sauce for all the rice you get. The Bangkok chicken was very nice, but it is totally missing sauce, because just the marinated / battered chicken and the rice make for a very dry meal. The Massaman curry was really great, and maybe it was because was very hungry, but it didn't feel very filling. Most of the dishes come with your choice of meat (or fresh or fried tofu if you wish to eat vegetarian). The prices are ok for the portion size. Not too high, not really cheap either. The service is very friendly and they are always incredibly polite. It also helps that they know me by now and make suggestions for what I might try when I am undecided. The have some seating outside, and a decent amount inside. The decoration is very sparse, and food is always served in styrofoam containers, whether you carry out or eat there. I can honestly highly recommend their Thai iced tea. I would know how to properly describe it, because I don't think I know anything I could compare it to. All in all, a place I love to go to very frequently, and that hardly ever disappoints. read more

Restaurant closes by 9 on Sundays and we only walked in at around 8.40.. yet the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. I highly recommended you give it a try when you are around. We were visiting Savannah with our dog and had a craving for Thai food. I found this restaurant on yelp which was a beautiful, easy walk. It's a little hole in the wall restaurant with cute outdoor tables. Immediately a woman came out and greeted us and brought Kujo a big bowl of water. Her service was impeccable! We also had the opportunity to meet a couple more women from the restaurant which was a great touch. The food was fantastic! I am not impressed by this place at all. I saw the great reviews and thought "WOW! This could be my new Thai place!!!" Sad to say, no way. The tofu Pad Thai was virtually flavorless. The noodles were really gummy and overcooked. The crushed peanuts were almost non-existent. I asked for the tofu friend and when I got back to work realized they gave me fresh tofu. Not a big deal but still ... Normally Pad Thai comes with fresh limes and Cilantro. Not theirs. I was extremely disappointed. To top it off, there is a $1.00 sur-charge for tofu. That's right. Chicken or Pork are free. Tofu is more expensive. This makes zero sense to me. I paid just shy of $10 and let me tell you, I definitely did not get my money's worth. The menu with pictures is nice - all of the items look so delicious; I can assure they are not. Tom kha: 1/5. One of my favorite thai soups, this was terrible here. Tom kha should have a balance between sour, spicy and savory - this was way too sour and a little bit sweet. It is not tom kha. Tom yum: 0/5. I think their tom kha is tom yum but they add coconut milk before serving it. This was, unbelievably, even worse than the Tom kha. Ginger Lover: 2/5. This was approaching good. Not very flavorful. We found a piece of a shrimp shell in it though. Bangkok chicken: 3/5. This tasted like Chinese from the mall's food court, which I happen to like, just not when I'm expecting good thai food. The other extremely annoying thing about this restaurant: styrofoam everything, even for dining in. Sorry, but this is pure laziness on the operator's part, not to mention AWFUL for the environment. Welcome to the 21st century. The ginger chicken was so hot when they brought it out it had melted the styrofoam plate - very appetizing. Don't expect to go sightseeing or walking around beautiful Savannah after eating here. Every member of our group was booking it back to the hotel bathroom with upset stomachs within 20 minutes of leaving PJ Thai. Bottom line: There are many great places to eat in Savannah. Just tried the Coconut Soup. I was licking the bowl clean by the end. This place has been in Savannah for a few years and every time I go back I am still impressed. I just got back from Thailand, and I can tell you that this is THE MOST AUTHENTIC Thai food in Savannah. PJ (the Owner) is straight out of Thailand, he told me that he is traveling back there to get some new recipes and ideas this month. The food was excellent HOWEVER I have never had a stranger server in my life. We arrived 7 pm and it was half full and to go orders were being fulfilled while we ate. We had NO idea the restaurant closed at 8 pm which is just crazy for midweek downtown in a tourist destination. We were puzzled as to why he kept checking on us literally every 2 minutes. At 758 while I was about 2/3rds through my entree, he came up for like the 9th time and said "can I get you a box for that?" As I was steadily and obviously still eating, I was surprised and said "I'm still working on it". To which he responded, "well we close in 2 minutes, so I need to box that up". OMG. I was speechless. PJ Thai used to be your typical water-bottle-and-tourist-tshirt shop that I walked by every day, but never went into. However, since they have recently added a Thai food service counter I predict I will be going there all the time! My litmus test for Thai food is green curry, and at PJ I was very pleased with what I got. The curry there, at a minimum, is medium-spicy so I got it that way, and it had just enough heat to remind you of it's presence, but not enough to distract from the other flavors. In particular, it was sweeter than most other green curry's I have had, but no complaints there. Many different meat and protein options to choose from (for almost all of the dishes), including not one but TWO kinds of tofu - I thought the fresh tofu was a fine addition to the green curry. But, the best perk - basic as it is - is the option to substitute brown rice for the basic white! I looove brown rice, and haven't seen it served anywhere else in Savannah. The food is served to-go style in foam and plastic trays (whether you eat in or not; there are a few basic chairs inside and out but why not just walk over to one of the squares instead?), it's just as simple as it gets. Lots of other tempting meat and vegetarian menu options, inexpensive price point, and super friendly and fast service makes this a winning option for a casual lunch or dinner. read more

Super yummy! My husband and I had this for the first time for dinner the other day. My husband got the PJ Rice. It was sweet, flavorful and delicious! And I got the pad thai. Amazing! Nice corner spot. Clean and well maintained. The food was fresh and the vegetables still had some crunch. We wish that the waitress had asked what level of spice we wanted when we ordered but she brought out some chili sauce when we said we needed the food spicier. So, make sure you say if you want it with some kick! My complaint was that my husband was served his appetizer and his main dish ten minutes before my meal come to the table. There were only two parties in the shop at the time. We left a parcel behind and did not realize it until about 20 minutes later.
