Stopped by Ruan on a rainy Friday. Lunch special was $10 (entree plus a spring roll), which is an incredible deal. Overall the pad thai was saucier than I prefer, but I like that they let you customize the spice level. I picked medium and I thought it was an accurate spice level (you know, some places are too spicy or not enough, etc.). I also had a thai iced tea (no milk), which was delicious. If you're looking for amazing Thai cuisine, Ruan Thai is a must try. The ambiance was very nice, great tunes were being played in the background, beautiful restaurant with amazing, thoughtful service. Shawn was our server, he made sure our dining experience was very enjoyable. We tried the sampler appetizer plate with satay chicken, chicken spring rolls, wontons... it was very tasty, crispy and fresh. The sauces shared varied from sweet to spicy, and paired perfectly with the appetizers. For dinner I had the pad Thai noodles with chicken, and my friend ordered the drunken noodles with chicken. We both enjoyed our noodle dishes, the vegetables were crisp, herbs aromatic, all the flavors were talking to us, so much, we couldn't help but talk about our experience through flavor country. Ruan is a true mom and pop spot. In the many times I've come in for food there has not been one instance where I have not encountered the owner. She makes it a point to know her regulars and the sauces they like with their meals. If you're extra special she'll even have the kitchen make you certain items that are no longer on the menu. The service is always there and the food has never been less than amazing. I've recommended Ruan to several friends and I have not had a negative report back. They're just that good. Be mindful that although they are quick the restaurant is not huge so there can be a wait during lunch time and the dinner rush. Ruan is located on broughton street across from the on time fashion shop. I love that they have a chalkboard outside that shows the daily specials and a menu for those passing by to view. I've eaten my way through most of their menu but my top 3 favorites are the pad thai with no peanuts(personal preference) the shrimp and eggplant and any of the curries. Always medium spice. So I was wandering about and hungry and for no apparent reason I landed here. The decor is very nice as were the spring rolls that come with you lunch. That wraps up the good. I had Cashew Chicken hot, that lacked any heat at all and is was also completely absent flavor. The service was almost non-existent. I would think if I delivered a plate of "hot" I would check on that persons water. Although the food was lacking heat, Savanna is not and I was clearly two glasses of water in deficit. First off, fresh salad rolls were very disappointing. Very weak and to add insult was the syrupy hoisin sauce for dipping. I couldn't do it. Pad Thai... I've never had pad Thai taste like it was made with tomato sauce. Remember spaghetti-o's? There were strong notes of that in this dish. Odd and not in a good way. We tried the first curry at that top of the menu option for curries and asked for medium/hot. There was zero heat, but the flavor wasn't bad. The best was the fried rice. Our sever was very attentive and made a couple of suggestions for my mom. She went with the fried fish dinner and she loved it. I ordered the Chicken Larb and was highly disappointed. The flavors were milder and less bold from the authenticity I was seeking. On the positive side, if you're looking for a place to introduce someone to Thai cuisine who might not be accustomed to bold flavors, this restaurant could be a good choice. I am a repeat player of Ruan Thai Cuisine on any given weekend day. I appreciate the fact the food is always fresh especially the seafood. My typical order is the whole fried snapper with basil sauce, but this time I tried the ginger which was good; however, I will return to my favorite. Next is the crab and shrimp fried rice followed by the mixed seafood and the larb gai or chicken salad and then an order or the cucumber salad. To round the meal, it is always the mango sticky rice for dessert which makes my meal so satisfying. All of this food made to order and I have not been disappointed to date even when I usually order my food ahead to pick it up to go. I just went there this past weekend St. Patty's weekend + the steak I ordered was chewy a bunch of fats. The Thai chicken just tastes like it was flat ironed on the flat iron grill. No love was put into The dishes that was ordered and I ordered three peanut sauce. Iris, so amazing and the shrimp was not fresh local shrimp. They were definitely farm raised. I ordered the Green Curry; the rest of the table got Tom Yum soup, Drunken Noodles, and Pad Thai. Prices averaged about $12-14 an entree. I thought my Green Curry was decent, and my mom liked the Pad Thai, but both the Tom Yum soup and the Drunken Noodles were severely over-salted: my dad ended up leaving most of his noodles on the plate and leaving hungry. The service wasn't great, either. Though we were seated promptly, nobody came over to check on us, refill any of our waters, or bring us the check until we were ready to leave. Wow, what a gem! We had a delicious dinner at Ruen Thai. In fact, the whole experience was great. Our server, Sean, could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Everything we tried was super good too. Beware, they are not stingy with the food. You will not leave hungry. We started with the combo appetizer and some chicken Tom Kah. The dipping sauces are excellent and the appetizers very light and flavorful. The soup was very fresh and tasty as well. Hubby had the duck in ginger and I had the drunken noodles. Our party of 5 was there last night( Friday). We ordered an appetizer platter, drinks, and our entrees all at once. Around 30 minutes after we got our appetizer, which was hot and very tasty. The drinks were nothing special, some lemonade and wine. After 1 1/2 hour of waiting for our entrees, and still getting "it is coming" as answer from the server we decided to leave. When I went to pay for our beverage and appetizer, the owner became annoyed and started to point fingers at the server yelling that it was all her fault and that she ( the server) needed to pay for the food. It was very embarrassing and as I was telling her that is not a way to talk to anyone, she( the owner) was adding manually my bill. Other customers arrived to the counter to pay as well and it became a very awkward situation. I paid my bill and felt very bad for the server because the owner was relentless, going on and on about the situation and pointing her fingers to the waitress.
