Placerville Dental Group was supposed to do a new Bridge on the bottom and some dental work on the top of my mouth. After commenting to Dr. Steele that root canals can be expensive, Dr. Steele began yelling at me. Due to his unprofessional behavior, I decided to just have him complete the bridge work he had started but hold off on the work on my top teeth. After the way I was spoken to by Dr. Steele, I no longer felt comfortable having any additional work done. I just wanted to leave. On the way out of my appointment, Deborah, the office manager asked me to sign paperwork which turned out to be different than the work they had actually performed. However, they billed for the entire treatment plan (top and bottom teeth), when actually they only completed work on my bottom teeth. After filing a complaint with the Dental Board of California, I saw Dr. Steele had received multiple complaints from other patients and had even lost his dental license numerous times. He was recently released from probation. There's some serious allegations you'll want to see before you take your family or child to this facility. If you're curious about the specifics, you can go to the Dental Board of California website, type in Brian Steele, click on dentist license for license type and type in license # 54818. Here are some highlights from one case taken directly from case number DBC 2017-49: Decision and Order from the Dental Board of California, Department of Consumer Affairs regarding a girl. 14. While respondent was assessing O.M. for discharge and waiting for the IV drip of saline to complete, the front desk manager Miguel Sanchez walked from the front of the office down the hall toward the rear entrance and passed by the operatory. Mr. Sanchez testified at hearing that the door was "wide open," and he looked into the operatory and saw respondent sitting next to O.M., who was seated upright. Respondent's hand was under O.M.'s blanket, and he pulled his hand back when he saw Mr. Sanchez walking by. Mr. Sanchez went out to his car and when he returned, he walked by the operatory a second time and saw respondent through a reflection in the hallway. Respondent was still alone with O.M. and Mr. Sanchez could not see his hands because they were under the blanket. At hearing, Mr. Sanchez could not recall if respondent's hand was above or below the blanket. Mr. Sanchez requested that Ms. Nevarez enter the operatory to see if "everything was okay." Mr. Sanchez stated that he did not file a police report because the incident resurfaced his own trauma from abuse he suffered in his past. 15. Contrary to his testimony at hearing, when Investigator Tippins interviewed Mr. Sanchez, he stated that Dr. Steele's hand was on O.M.'s stomach, and that when he walked by the operatory the second time, Dr. Steele did not move his hand and asked Mr. Sanchez if he needed anything. Mr. Sanchez also told Investigator Tippins that O.M. was talking when he walked by. Mr. Sanchez had a difficult time during the interview, and indicated to Investigator Tippins that "he felt [respondeht's] behavior was inappropriate because of events that occurred_in his personal life." 16. Ashley Nevarez is a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) who worked for respondent in 2016 and 2017. She testified at hearing. Ms. Nevarez was the chairside RDA during O.M.'s procedure. Her role was to set up the operatory, bring the patient back, assist during the procedure, and sterilize the instruments and clean the operatory following the procedure. Ms. Nevarez recalled that O.M. was asked to sit on her hands during the procedure, but does not recall whether she sat on her hands herself or whether respondent assisted. She described O.M. as talkative throughout the procedure. Following the extraction, Ms. Nevarez began cleaning the operatory. She was in and out of the room at first, and then left the room to sterilize the instruments, which took her 10 to 15 minutes. She returned to the room when she finished her tasks, which she estimated was 43 minutes after the start of the procedure. Respondent monitored O.M. while Ms. Nevarez was out of the room. The door was open and the light was on. 17. When Mr. Sanchez asked her to look in on O.M., Ms. Nevarez walked down the hall and saw respondent and O.M. in the reflection in the hallway. She saw what looked like respondent blowing in O.M.'s ear or on her face. She walked to the open doorway and saw respondent's left hand "in [O.M.'s] crotch area under the blanket." She saw respondent looking at the computer monitor with his right hand on the mouse. She did not see that O.M. still had her IV line. Respondent's hand was not moving under the blanket, and he did not pull his hand away when Ms. Nevarez walked in. She asked respondent whether "everything was okay;" he responded affirmatively. Ms. Nevarez told Mr. Sanchez what she saw, and she discussed.it with her RDA teacher and her parents. Two weeks later, she filed a police report. read more

Dentists are not my favorite place to go, but, when they recommend almost $1500 worth of uncovered work and refuse to do a simple cleaning covered by insurance and try to force a more expensive method, something is *WRONG*. Then when I had to cancel a regular checkup due to various scheduling conflicts as well as due to their exorbitant costs, they unceremoniously "fired" us, telling our insurance carrier that we "didn't respect them". They didn't have the professionalism to call. They dumped us by calling the carrier (who also unfortunately handled it very poorly by assigning us to another dentist without our knowledge 200 miles away) and sent us a letter. Ummmm ... I guess in their little medical world there is no such thing as "customer service" and they want to act like kings. Our new dentist was appalled by the "treatment plan" this place suggested, stating it was unnecessary and priced outrageously. I've since been to the new dentist at least 4 times in 4 months and am thrilled with their service. Take your business elsewhere. This place doesn't really want it unless you're willing to just open your wallet and not question them at all. If I could give them a negative number rating, I WOULD. read more

I am SO impressed! From the moment I walked in... I was greeted warmly and professionally, given a tour of the offices (first time that's ever happened!), kept fully "in the loop" as procedures were begun and explained. The equipment and expertise of the staff made for the most thorough exam and evaluation I've ever experienced in a dental office. No shaming, blaming or embarrassing as my numerous ill-attended dental issues were discovered; on the contrary, the staff was unerringly polite and kind. The necessary procedures, the costs and options were clearly and simply explained. Since it looks like I'm going to have quite a lengthy relationship with these folks, I am truly delighted that this first visit went so amazingly well. The most rude front office staff I have ever encountered. We came in for a dental emergency, big mistake! The senior office staff member was so rude that other patients felt compelled to tell us they were sorry for her rudeness. We had an appointment per the Dentist at 9am. We arrived 20 minutes early to complete paperwork, etc. That took about 3 minutes. The younger staff member kept repeating the phrase "Established Patient"... like somehow after your first visit they will be more pleasant. I thought seriously, what next visit. No need to become established, I phoned our previous dentist "Above the Gate Dentistry". Not only did they get us in right away, even without insurance the cost was less than 1/3 the $900 plus quote for our portion of the uncovered cost at Placerville Dental Group. read more

I was struggling with some pretty severe tooth pain this week and I had been putting off taking care of it for a little while... having just gotten new dental insurance, I hadn't done too much research into a local dentist. On Monday morning, after an incredibly painful weekend, I gave Placerville dental group a call and they were able to squeeze me in that same day! As much as I hate going to the dentist, the visit was not terrible and I appreciated how friendly and helpful the staff was! While I was not expecting to have the procedures done that same day, the staff was willing to fit me in and get it all done at once so I could stop being so miserable! I have no idea the quality of work they do. They make your first visit feel like Christmas morning. Then you discover they won't crown a tooth for the "You Pay" cost that your Delta plan covers. You object, they get rude. Rude emails. Visiting Placerville Dental Group will be a confusing and disappointing experience for anyone living on a teacher's retirement income--vert good income for seniors living in El Dorado County. They could have helped me, compromised, suggested a payment plan, etc. Nope! Cash on the barrel head, their way or the highway. Thank you to the wonderful staff for making me feel welcomed. It had been over 10 years since I had dental care. Everyone is so nice! The hygienist and the doctor both were very professional. I need extensive dental treatment and I was a bit overwhelmed, but the gal that came in to discuss my benefits and the finances helped put me at ease. She offered me an insurance plan that drastically reduced the overall fees and a financing option to pay for the dental work. They also had time to get started same day as I had a filling that had fallen out and it was causing me pain. I came to this dental office because of the great treatment my son received from simple fillings to having his wisdom teeth removed. I was a previous member of another dental group tat was unprofessional, and my teeth have paid the price.I feel I can complete my treatment at this office without the anxiety I had at my previous dental group. Recently went in as a new patient. The doctor and staff were all very nice and helpful. The lady doctor explained everything I needed to have done and also told me there were some other areas that we will just keep an eye on for now which I appreciated her honesty. The dental tech I had was very knolagable and very friendly. I am very embarrassed about my teeth ,but the tech made me feel very comfortable during the whole appointment. I am a very nervous dental patient. From day one i felt very comfortable walking into the office feeling at peace to the friendly voices welcoming me to constant conversation that calmed me. I was having severe pain from my wisdom tooth making by whole right side swollen. I called in their office and front desk was very warm and professional, they were able to see me the same day as I explained them about the pain I was experiencing. Dr Steele extracted my wisdom tooth with IV sedation. I literally felt nothing . He was very professional and explained me everything that caused the pain. Wow is all I can say. I broke two crowns in the matter of a week. I called and they got me in the same day. They knew my insurance benefits before I arrived, and offered to do the crowns that day! Great! I don't have to take any more time off work! The equipment was state of the art, the staff courteous and friendly. They have a machine that "Scanned" my teeth no gooyey stuff on a gag reflex.
