I had an onlay that became loose and that I need to have cemented back. I first went to another…read morelocal dentist and after taking x-rays and a picture, he proceeded to tell me I had decay and needed a crown. I was suspicious of this, so decided to get a second opinion. I went to a second dentist, where the hygienist recommended Dr. Boehemer DDS as the expert to care for onlays. Already that was a great sign that an employee at the second dentist office would vouch so highly for Dr Boehmer. Dr Boehmer does not take my insurance, but my gut told me I would not regret paying the difference for the chance that I may be able to preserve my tooth and avoid a crown. I am so glad I listened to my gut! Dr Boehmer and they also took x-rays, and checked my tooth and the tooth next to it for decay. She also said that there was enough tooth structure that a new onlay would be an option if needed, but that a crown was not necessary. Ultimately, she determined that all I needed was for the tooth to be cleaned and for the same onlay that became loose to be cemented back. I also must mention that the first dentist I went to charged my insurance more than Dr Boehmer, even though all they did was x-rays of the one tooth, took a picture (not sure why a picture is necessary since he can just look at my tooth directly, and show it to me with a mirror like every other dentist), and apply a temporary cement. What a ripoff! Dr Boehmer is very knowledgeable and experienced, she aims to be conservative in her treatments, avoiding aggressive treatments that may be unnecessary. She is very pleasant and professional, and same with all her staff, who were all very polite and professional and friendly. The office is clean. I cannot recommend Dr. Boehmer enough.

I was a patient with this DDS for about 2.5 years. I left her practice after her receptionist told me I was 'difficult'. When asked why they considered me difficult Kristy told me that I was not following their treatment plan. So basically, clients' wishes and priorities are not respected. Well here is the rest of the story. The DDS kept trying to get me to do 2 unnecessary crowns because they were big ticket items. I had a very good insurance that provided rather generous coverage. I never used my whole allotment of available coverage and I believe that was the reason they basically fired me as a patient. Went I went back to my original dentist in Illinois (a man who has been my dentist for 40 years) he confirmed that I did not in fact need the 2 crowns. Also, I had chipped my front teeth a small bit and I kept asking the DDS to fix the chips. She wanted to extend the length of my teeth. She literally told me that my teeth are too small and they make me look old. My original and current dentist fixed the issue for me in 15 seconds. He gently used a rotary sanding tool (dental) and viola my chips were taken care of - without charging me!! He also did some bonding on my upper teeth near the gums which I had asked Dr. B to do but she never did. Dr. B. never listened to what I wanted to have done, and this is just not right. Dr. B is a pretty cold fish too. She takes a bit to warm up. My impression is that she is tired and would like to retire. She is thee 4 days a week.

Everyone in this office is kind, professional, and always puts you at ease with whatever you're having done. Their office hours are very accommodating, with early morning and evening appointments available if you need them. I've seen them several times over the last couple of years for everything from cleanings, to cavities, and more. Then, yesterday, August 7, 2020, I tripped over a small gate in our backyard, landing face first on our concrete walkway, damaging several front teeth in the process. I called their emergency number, and Dr. Babilonia answered right away. She asked me to text her a picture of my teeth, and upon seeing the picture, decided I needed to be seen by an endodontist, as the injury was more severe than she could care for in her office. Luckily, her husband, Dr. Hochberg, is an endodontist with a practice located near Montgomery and Pennsylvania. Agreeing that immediate treatment was crucial, she and her husband met us (I was in no shape to drive so my boyfriend took me) at his office within 45 minutes. Let me repeat that, just so it's perfectly clear. Dr. Babilonia and her husband came in on a Friday night, in the middle of a pandemic, to help me. Now you may think, well, that's their job, and sure, I wouldn't disagree with you, but they could easily have said, you know what, given the extent of the injury to your teeth and mouth, it's probably better if you go to the ER. That would not have been an unreasonable call to make. But they didn't. They gave up their Friday night to help me instead. Throughout the whole experience they were both calm, calming (I was a little freaked out), consultative, and clearly concerned about my physical, and emotional well-being. I'm going to leave a separate review on the page for Dr. Hochberg's business (Endodontic Associates of Albuquerque) as well, but I want to make sure I say how impressed I have always been with Dr. Babilonia, her staff, and her practice. Last night's emergency just solidified what I already suspected. These are good people, doing a good job, and taking care of their community. If you're looking for a dentist, you can't go wrong with Smiles That Work.

I didn't even understand why I was being charged but rather than argue, I did pay it. I also had the office try to switch dentists on me the day of my appt. I had to make sure I was always getting Dr. Preber. I understand new dentists need to build clientele but it seemed odd to not ask for permission and the new dentist just came in like it was no big thing--no introduction. I also constantly got different hygienists. I rather always get the same person. So in the end, I will keep looking.

She did an initial exam, took some xrays, and then called in Dr. Preber to evaluate the situation and recommend a course of action. Dr. Preber was kind, reassuring, personable and friendly. One of the other things I appreciate about this office is the longevity of the staff -- I met Kimberly in 2019, and she is still there, and I worked with Ashley at my last visit. That speaks to harmony and a great work culture. There is no revolving door of staff. While going to the dentist isn't generally my favorite thing to do, when I need care from ABQ Uptown Dentists, I keep my appointments with confidence that no only will the care be competent, but compassionate too. We were very happy with each phase of our first day with this company. They set us up with their 1st available appointment that was over a month out, but put us on a call earlier list if there is a cancellation. This was great for us, because as retirees we could be available at a days notice. Both of us got calls to come in earlier than our scheduled appointments. Front desk staff were very efficient at processing Maggie & I as 1st time patients. The dental team makes the 1st appointment 2hrs long to do a very thorough exam. They want your input to get your level of involvement in the dental care process. The equipment they have is top of the industry standard. It gives the patient a good view of dental issues, allowing a more knowledgeable choice by patient & Dentist. We never felt pressured to additional care that wasn't truly required at the present time. We were given a break down priority list of items needed & told they would work with us on payment steps based on the priority list. Even given discounts on how payments can be made. While I was already frustrated by being charged at every consecutive visit, I asked the front desk staff member, Cole, for a clear explanation of the billing. He gave me a completely cold reception. While we were trying to resolve a payment issue due to an expired card, I called their office line to find an alternative way to pay. While explaining to the phone representative that the front desk wasn't explaining the charges clearly, Cole interrupted and defensively snapped that he had already explained it. It was incredibly rude and unprofessional. While we both may have been having a stressful day, his customer service was completely unacceptable. Hoping to resolve the situation, I tried to schedule an appointment with the manager last Thursday to explain what happened. I was promised a callback from management that never came. Instead, when I arrived for my scheduled appointment the following week, I was told they had canceled my appointment and would no longer service me. While I respect that businesses have their own policies and I have no desire to return, their complete lack of communication and failure to address a customer service issue is deeply disappointing. My advice to anyone visiting this clinic: If you are having a stressful day, need billing clarity, or simply have questions about where your money is going--do not ask.
