Plaka was damn good! The husband and I were up in G-town checking out Sun City (for mom) and were looking for a dog friendly place to eat. We LOVE Greek food and have been utterly underwhelmed by the the options in Austin (coming from Chicago with its' spectacular Greektown...it's a hard act to follow). Found it on yelp and decided to give it a try. I had the chicken gyro combo with spicy bean soup and my husband had the classic gyro combo with lentil soup. Pros - soups were spectacular! Both of them. - portion size was very generous. I had a TON on chicken on my sandwich. - very fresh tasting and the bread is great. - good authentic menu. - tip. Ask for hot sauce. It was yummy. Cons - not their fault but the map point is incorrect on the yelp map. It shows the restaurant S of Williams and E of 35. It's actually N of Williams and W of 35! - the outdoor seating area is small and kind of cramped. - the are no garbage bins outside or obvious indoors either? We had to throw our trash away in the bathroom? It had to have been a fluke though, no? All in all though... The food was great and we'll definitely be back! read more

Got the combo plate with gyro, chicken, a salad, rice, and a meatball. Price-wise, it is a good deal for the amount of food ($8.99 for a FULL lunch), but from a flavor perspective, I found it lacking. The chicken was a little dry, the salad was missing some of the usual zing of a greek salad, and the rice was flavorless. One positive note was the gyro; it was perfectly moist. If you're in Round Rock or Georgetown, i'd recommend Zorba's - the food isn't quite as authentic as Plaka's - but will appeal much more to our American tastes. read more

This is my staple go to lunch spot. One thing that is not known by looking at the menu is that you can do half orders of salads. The portions are still huge, but it's so much more affordable, especially if you eat here a few times a week like I do. (That's bad, I know!) Love this place! Lots of variety for your Greek food hunger. First, we discovered this establishment en route to Marble Falls. Right of the highway and easy to find. Not a formal dining facility but there was no compromise on taste. Service was very prompt with seating both outside and inside. My daughter had the chicken gyro while my wife had the gyro sandwich. Plaka's, gotta love this place. I go here on a regular basis, the owners are very sweet people and started Zorba's in Round Rock before selling it to the current ownership. Great food, I mean seriously this stuff is fantastic if you like greek food or Zorba's. Same food. Anyhow, catch this place on I35 and Williams, on the corner. Georgetown is lucky to have Plaka! Wonderful Greek food at a great value. The ambiance is not the greatest, but GO - JUST FOR THE FOOD. Their salads have those wonderful Greek flavors/ingredients, and taste so fresh and light. They always have an assortment of 2-3 different soups each day that are equally as yummy, and accompanied by soft, warm pita bread. The combo plate is a fun assortment of dishes (gyro meat, meatballs, rice), and large enough that I usually split it with my hubby or one of my kids. Everything I have had here is very flavorful. The referenced ambiance is as reviewers say - walk through cafeteria style for your food, and a sightly remodeled ex-fast food place. It is always clean though. The food is worth it in every way. I have ducked in here for a Greek fix on bitter cold winter days and smashing hot TX summer days. It's good for the hungry soul either way. My teen offspring love it equally, and have commented that it's better than many sit down Greek restaurants we have visited. We love our Plaka, and hope you will too! read more

It is nice to have a Greek restaurant in town. Overall the food is real good. I would like to see the falafel crispier. The salads are big and the soups are tasty. Being walk up buffet style you can get in and out for lunch in short order. Inside and outside tables if you want to stay a while. The Gyro wrap can't be beat with a great yogurt sauce. read more

This place has a great hard working staff that we have got to know by going here a lot over the years. The previous owners were such a nice loving couple. They have since sold the business and under the new ownership the quality is slipping some. Also the employees don't seem as happy. The rice is not near as good and the lamb and beef meet doesn't seem as fresh. We use to go here once a week but probably go every other week now. I understand making money and replacing a loving personable couple who treated us so well is a tough act to follow but keeping employees happy and not letting quality slip is SO important! One new bummer is the gyro meet is now served in smaller portions due to being shaved. The quality of the food items ...namely the rice, gyro meat, spanakopita, Have fallen since the new ownership and the atmosphere of a loving older couple -versus a new business owner that seems most concerned about squeezing every dime he can out of people who come there. We've been to Plaka several times since moving back to Georgetown. We love the atmosphere, the people and, above all, the food. I have had the Greek salad and the meatball lunch. The food is always fresh and the portion sizes are generous. Two things that kept me from giving the restaurant 5 stars - the location is kind of awkward and the fact that since lunch is served cafeteria style the pasta is not as hot as it could be. This place has maintained a high standard of good food and service. Each time we've come, the place has been packed with families eating as well as a consistent flow of customers through their drive-thru window. The portions are huge. They're cheap, fast, and still delicious! The gyros, nightly specials, vegetarian dishes, and salads are all really good. Highly recommend checking out their menu online if you're not terribly familiar with Greek food - their website has better descriptions of the dishes. When you walk in, they only have pictures of the food, so you won't really know what's in the dish unless you're a regular with their food. read more

The business has been around for a while now. I've lived in Georgetown nearly all of my life and I have only been here once. When I did go, I went through the drive-through. I do love the fact that they have this to get the most amount of people. I can't review how the interior is. I will say that I ordered a Gyro and it was delicious. We like this place for several reasons: 1) As vegetarians, their falafel wraps and feta salad make delicious, flavorful, nutritionally balanced meals. 2) They are super quick to get your meal built right in front of you. Perfect for a lunch break. There's even a drive-thru for when you want something quick and easy after a long day. 3) The atmosphere is informal and relaxed without falling into careless or grungy. 5 stars for the service - I came in to an empty shop and the guys that helped me were friendly and answered my questions. But the food... I got the gyro plate with 2 dolma instead of soup. The dolma were HUGE, the biggest I've ever seen, but it didn't taste like any I'd ever had. The leaves were dry and crispy (?!) and the filling felt oily. The flavor was good but the texture of the leaves threw me off. I've never had a meat dolma before. Loved the tahini sauce, though. I was really looking forward to the gyro. It left me disappointed. Most of it was pretty standard. The veggies were fresh and the sauce was delicious, but it was overstuffed with meat and the meat itself was WAY over salted- I had to take a third of it out because it was too much and overwhelmingly salty. I ended up finishing most of it because I had nothing else to eat, but I'm pretty sure I went over my sodium intake for the day! Overall, it filled me up for $7.50. Visited for the first time today and we were not disappointed. Plaka seems to get the magical trio right: cheap, fast, good! Upon the recommendation of other reviewers, we had the gyros plate, complete with rice and meatball, side salad, gyro and pita. In cafeteria fashion, you acquire a tray and build your order, paying up front and then having a seat. There is ample seating available, the restaurant was clean and comfortable. The gyro was authentic, fresh, tender, and flavorful. The t-sauce was homemade perfection, no pre-made sauce in a can here! Salad dressing is a lovely homemade creamy feta, and the meatball was absolutely delicious! The amount of food was extremely generous and even the most hungry of patrons will leave stuffed for a very fair $8.99. We will definitely go back to Plaka and are looking forward to trying the falafel and other authentic dishes. read more

The service is great! This was our first visit and the server had great advice. Cafeteria style is a little different, but definitely helpful because you can see what you are ordering. The gyro meat (lamb and beef) were over salted and seemed fairly processed (think chopped ham from your local deli). The lemon chicken soup and lentil soup were good. Fast and friendly and the portions are big!! It's cafeteria style but I really like seeing what I'm ordering. It was extremely smooth and easy to read the menu and order and everyone was so friendly and helpful! We had the chicken salad and the falafel gyro. The salad was giant, enough for two people to share, the lettuce and veggies were fresh and crisp, the dressing was top notch and the chicken sliced are big and juicy!! The gyro was packed full of yummies! The falafel was flavorful and the texture was spot on and the veggies were crisp and fresh! We also ordered a side of spanikopita and they were so light and flaky and the filling was flavorful! Ate here twice this past weekend. As we walked into the place the first time for lunch, I could see their drive-thru was doing brisk business. There were also lots of seated customers inside. But the cafeteria-style ordering was fast and efficient, and we had our food and were seated eating within 4 minutes of walking in the door. The food was fresh tasting and the servings were generous. Atmosphere was quite pleasant, especially considering how small the place is and how busy they were. Normally I'd expect noisy chatter under such conditions. Went back for supper the following night, bringing two friends along this time, and everything was just as quick and tasty, even though almost all the tables were full. Only downside was they had run out of several items on their menu, but once again the servings were delicious and quite generous, and my wife couldn't even finish the gyro meat on her plate, so she carried out a takeout container of meat which we enjoyed the next day! read more

We have enjoyed Plaka Cafe since it opened. It is a cafeteria style cafe, which I like because you can see the food as you go by with your tray. My son always gets the Pot Roast on rice. It comes with potatoes in it, so very hearty. I always get the gyro. Sometimes the greek salad. The portions are big here. I order an extra pita, because I can make 2 gyros out of one sandwich. If they have them, we will get spanakopita. Usually I walk in and grab it to go, but when we eat in I always enjoy the greek music in the background. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place on our way to Austin. We actually were looking for a Dairy Queen, but found Plaka Greek Cafe instead! We first went to the drive-thru, but without any menu we were unsure of what we wanted. So we told them that we would go in and sit down. The owner was nice enough to see our dog Peabody and offered him a huge helping of scrap meats. So while Peabody munched on that, with all the windows down and parked in the shade of course, we went inside to dine. My boyfriend & I shared the Chicken Wrap, with a salad, and a side of hummus. The hummus was ok, the salad was good, and the Chicken Wrap was the BEST and huge. I'm glad that both of us shared it. Then we bought Galktoboureko, a desert. The owner's wife even let me try some Greek coffee for free, to go with my desert. The owners and the staff were all great and friendly. We definitely would go back again. The thing is it's a bit difficult to spot from the highway, even though it's right off the service road. read more

I've tried this place once...and it was my first taste of Greek food. Firstly, I knew as soon as I was through the door I don't like the lunch cafeteria / fast food set up with the huge menu hanging over your head and ordering / waiting at the conveyer belt to be handed your plate. Also, everything was SO greasy. The meat was greasy, the veggies were greasy, even the salads were drowning in dressing. My side salad had so much dressing it made the whole thing inedible. I ended up nibbling on the few pieces of 'clean' lettuce, a few croutons, and a bit from the meats...but overall I could not eat anything I had on my plate. And from the tiny bit I did...I left feeling like I was going to gain 20 pounds. But maybe it's not the place, maybe I just don't like Greek food, idk...as this was my first experience. What a great find! As soon as I walked in and looked at the menu, I knew this place had the Greek authenticity I wanted. The portions are more than enough and the pricing is very reasonable. The gyro meat was really, really good. Some of the best I've had in the US. The two soups we got were great as well. The pastichio was just ok. Unfortunately they actually let you watch them take it out of the fridge and plop a piece in the microwave in front of you. It was cold and just tasted fine, but not great. The cheese pastries that come on the side were really good though. I don't live in the area, but next time I am back, I am definitely stopping by again for a gyro pita or platter.
