I'm not a huge fan of the burgers here because I'm thinking they are steamed. That's just not my thing. For all I know they might do that fabulously, though, I just prefer charred burgers. I also think they need to season their meat more because it's a bit flavorless. That being said, I love their tater tots. And while I understand that might not seem like something to write about, I love those things and not many places have them. They have an awesome crunch and are great comfort food. I had their fried chicken sandwich and thought it was pretty good. I also think the staff is really great. We've liked everyone who's waited on us and have no complaints there. It was good, a little sour but nice. Decided to split some appies: the poppers were mild but with some burn. The Mac and cheese was pretty bland, but added salt! My co workers and I showed up tonight and were told that the wait time was 20-25 minutes. We checked SEVERAL times & were told because the size of our party (there were 8 of us) they would be seating us outside. I understand the limited seating because of COVID but the excuse for 30 minutes was there is someone sitting at one of the tables and they're "finishing up". This place has been our go to, close to home, non-chainy type restaurants for years. However, the food has really been going downhill over the past year or so. They really tipped the scales of mediocrity today when they replaced the usually bun on my West Coast burger with an grocery store type burger bun. I love the Plan B Burger Bar chain, and Simsbury is my favorite location of the ones I've visited so far. It's in an adorable building that feels like an old-fashioned train station, and the atmosphere is welcoming and charming. While it can get busy, and service can be slow as a result, the great beer selection and fantastic food make it worth the wait. These are some of the best burgers I've ever had. Fresh, quality beef. Huge, perfectly-cooked burger patties. Quality ingredients all around. On my most recent visit last week, I got the "ultimate cheese" burger because I had to watch my boyfriend get it on one trip and a friend get it on another trip. It's got four cheeses - two on top and two in the middle, and it's as delicious as it sounds. Went for the pretzel bun, which was nice and buttery and had a great texture, and it was great with the spicy mustard I asked for on the side. (Note: Ask for the spicy mustard if you like mustard. Ground mustard seeds you can see. Zesty. Spicy. Everything a spicy mustard should be.) Add in the amazing "fancy fries," a nice crisp half-sour pickle, and a quality beer, and I left extremely happy. Boyfriend got the steakhouse burger, which was a special that day. It had shaved steak, frizzled onions, and steak sauce, on top of the burger, and it was absolutely incredible. The only burger I wouldn't really recommend is the baja - unless you maybe get the chipotle sauce on the side. The burger with jalapeno and avocado toppings is still fantastic, but I found the chipotle sauce to be too overpowering and spicy. And I like spicy. I've heard from other people who can also handle their spicy foods that this burger was a bit too much. I used to love Plan B but lately it's become a back burner place for me. The food is good but has been very hit or miss. Several times I've gotten a very over cooked burger and like warm fries which is frustrating because that's what they do so I feel it should be done well. I won't write it off but my advice would be to not go in with high expectations. Like several other people have already reported, the Simsbury location is by far the most worthwhile. From the building (an old train station) to the decor (meat hook light fixtures!), Simsbury's Plan B would totally get a 6th star from me if it were an option. Since Yelp won't let me 6 star this joint, I'm going to blather on about the burgers. Mind you, I don't eat cow so I cannot comment on the quality of the beef but I've had a number of the burgers on the menu and substitute turkey. Last night I had Three Shrooms, the visit before that I had the West Coast(er?) and I liked both equally. Desert was the B cup which is basically a hostess cupcake on steroids. I'm a creature of habit and normally once I've vetted a restaurant I quickly settle into a routine of ordering my usual at each and every visit. Plan B is a rare sort of experience for me. Very cool place, just down the hill from the main street in Simsbury. It's difficult how to see which door is the main entrance, but once you get in, it's a good spot. The waitstaff and bartenders are friendly and the food is very good! Good beer selection, with a few solid craft choices. I had the fish tacos which were both huge and delicious! It comes with a bowl of rice and black beans. Spices were on point. They have pickels on the bar to much on as well! 4 1/2 stars. Let's get on that 1/2 star, Yelp! Do it! Who doesn't love a burger? They have great burgers HOWEVER everything else is meh. Fries are not good, I don't care that you douse them in cheese, they then become bad fries with cheese. I ordered the lobster roll and it tasted not fresh at all. I told the waitress and she asked if I wanted another one. I asked if the second would have fresh lobster to which she said no it's frozen lobster....Um OK, I'll pass. The menu should say that. $16 bucks for three tiny frozen lobster rolls? I love and adore Plan B in the most extreme of ways. Beef, burgers, beer, and bourbon...what more can you ask for? I've had almost everything on the menu, but my absolute favorites are the Chili (I have to get a cup of this every time I go), Southern Sliders (my standard meal), and the Meatball Crock (which comes with delicious garlic bread on the side). Also, the tater tots are divine...and I am a major tater tot aficionado. Seriously! Desserts are also to die for...the Bourbon Pecan Pie is absolutely amazing and the B Cup (flourless chocolate cake) is heaven on a plate. HUGE selection of beers & of course, bourbon! I like most of their house cocktails too. And they almost always have a Dogfish Head beer on tap, which is excellent. Every time I've been here, the staff seems to truly enjoy their job, or at least not hate it. Most are friendly and when I was a regular, they learned my name & job & were great, friendly conversationalists. I also like the Simsbury branch in particular--great staff, and although it's small, I like the setup. Friends from California came for a visit and took them here because they eat only cage free chicken and grass fed beef. They were totally satisfied with their meal and the abundant selection of beers available. One gripe, however, were the green fries. I myself have never gotten them but we expected them to be flash fried, tempura style. Just seemed like the beans were thrown into a fryer with no batter and plated. I'm not as impressed as most other people seem to be. I visited on Monday afternoon last week. Living in the Boston area, I can't get too excited about it being an old train station. I've been to restaurants in old train stations already, not to mention an old prison. Every building up here is old and has been something else at some point. I did like all the Picasso prints of cows and bulls on the wall. I quickly chose the Baja Burger, but I had a harder time finding a beer. This is a place that has gone out of its way to have a "premium" beer selection, so if you are not a craft beer aficionado you might be out of luck. I chose a beer, but I had trouble finding it again when it came time to order because the list is so long, but they were out of the one I chose anyway. So I just went with a Sam Adams. I'm not impressed by a huge craft beer selection when you don't have any common domestics to fall back on. You are alienating all the people out there that just want a Bud. When you order the burger, they ask you if you want "some pink or no pink." I don't know why but I find that an incredibly annoying way of asking how you want it cooked. I'd rather just specify how I want it cooked like literally every other place you get a burger. Regardless, I went with some pink. When the food came out, I tried the fries first and was immediately met with disappointment. They tasted exactly like Burger King fries. Burger King fries are fine, but if I'm paying upwards of $15 for a burger and fries, I want the fries to taste like they came from actual potatoes and not out of a bag from the freezer. The burger was very juicy, but also disappointing. First of all, after that "pink or no pink" business, there was no pink. Secondly, the burger itself was surprisingly lacking in flavor. I ate a piece of the beef by itself and it barely had any taste. All you could taste was the toppings. I found that the jalapenos that they added with the cheese on top dominated the flavor way too much. Maybe if they removed the seeds first, or used a different kind of pepper it would be better. The avocado and tomato were delicious though. It was also a good roll, but the whole thing started to fall apart before I was done with it, which is a pet peeve of mine. All in all I was underwhelmed with the burger and fries. Another thought on the room itself: it is really loud. There is something about the construction of the place that lends itself to hearing everything that everyone else in the whole place is saying at a high volume. There was a lady at the bar that was laughing constantly, and the sound of her laughing filled the whole room. I can't begrudge the lady for having a good time, but I prefer a quieter atmosphere. I'll probably visit again at some point and give the place another chance, but I wouldn't recommend it for the time being. read more

I've been to the Simsbury Plan B a few times, but after tonight I'll be sure to try another location. Our server was ATROCIOUS. She was inattentive, argued with us when an order wasn't prepared as requested, and rude. It took 15 minutes for us to get drinks, and another 15 for her to take our dinner orders. I forgot a takeout container when we left-- she came outside with it, handed it to me, and giggled as she made rude comments about us to a coworker as she entered the building (we obviously didn't take the food, as I wouldn't put it past her tainting it). Thankfully, they had a hostess working that was a superstar. She brought our food out, asked if we wanted dessert, brought us the check and was very nice. We wished that we could have tipped her instead. The food was pretty good. The bourbon brie and the fried pickle/pepper appetizers were great. My portabello mushroom burger much better than expected, and the truffle fries are always a sure bet. Unfortunately, the service will definitely prevent me from returning to the Simsbury Plan B (which is too bad, as I live close to it), but the food is good enough for me to try another location. read more

Some of the best burgers I've had. Some recommendations: Appetizers: Comes with vinegar pickles which are good in themselves. But, the American Nachos are so good (basically potato chips turned into nachos) and the wings are above average Meals: Bacon Cheese is my favorite burger that has an incredible sauce. No need for ketchup! Mac N' Jack bar is very good - try the BBQ chicken. Tip: Add parmesan fries to burgers, they are the best. Drink: They sometimes have Sip O' Sunshine on tap, John Daly is a huge lemonade cocktail, and their Moscow mule is pretty good. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that I've had MULTIPLE poor experiences with specific bartenders that seem to really hate local young-adults in the area. People I have been with have been yelled at and treated poorly (myself included) at night, which is a shame because this is one of my favorite local restaurants. My family have been here a few different times and each time we've enjoyed the place. We've only eaten upstairs and never outside which is fine by me because the atmosphere during the evening is fun and vibrant. The bar area and the tables are close to one another so you don't feel like either isn't part of the other. The half sours pickles are great and we've asked for more even after we've had our apps and main course. They're always willing to adjust plate portions to suit our kids needs. It's not a place to have a kids birthday party by any means but a great place to get a burger with the kids. read more

In my opinion, the best plan B that I've been to. Ambiance wins hands down over West Hartford or Glastonbury. Glastonbury is too commercialized and big. West Hartford's wait for seating is ridiculous. I do, however, don't like the downstairs seating at this location. It is in the basement and it FEELS like a basement. Too confined. But this place has bar and patio seating, which is comfortable. I like coming here later at night after the dinner rush so I can get a seat where I want. The food is ok. I'm not a burger person, so this place offers little for me. But I can tell the quality of the food is good. The sweet potato fries, American Nachos, the wings, the Iceberg Wedge Salad salad are my go-to's here. This is a good late night drink with a friend. read more

Plan B is my favorite burger place in the universe. I moved to DC and was super excited to see them open a location here. Their burgers are just... indescribably amazing. Juicy. Not heavily salted. Just plain good beef. And I love that ordering it "in the grass" is a normal option; bunless burgers don't seem to be in the mainstream yet on the east coast so I appreciate not having to explain it every time. I love it here. My husband and I come probably monthly since we moved to CT and bring our friends and family when they come to visit. Food and atmosphere is great, drinks are delicious and service is amazing! My only downside would be high wait times with no space to really wait comfortably, but that's just being picky. Example of great service in a December visit, my husband I sat down on a busy night and ordered some wings for appetizers and drinks then our food. Wings took a little longer than usual but we didn't mind as we were enjoying our drinks. The waitress was super apologetic and comped or wings without a word from us. Even if the burgers weren't so impressive, Plan B's beer selection would make it worth the trip. The burgers are delicious, though, and they're certified humane as well as hormone and anti-biotic free. We waited about fifteen minutes for a table last night (a Saturday), which was fine, but one of Plan B's few downsides is that there isn't really anywhere to wait when the bar is full. We were seated in the downstairs area, which features the same dark wood, brick and twinkle lights as the larger upstairs area. It also has the advantage of being a bit more quiet than the area upstairs, which is adjacent to the bar. Prices are fair at Plan B, particularly considering how high-quality the burgers are. Beer prices are also completely reasonable. We started with the portabella mushroom fries, which were alright, but I don't know that I'd order them again. (The breading-to-mushroom ratio was a little high, but it seems like that would have to be the case in order to achieve a fry-like consistency and not flop over.) I had the Baja Burger, and it was very fresh. The french fries were cut similarly to fast food fries, but not slathered in oil and salt. Service at Plan B was good-- though the two times we've been there we've had to track down the hostess to put our names on the wait list, which is a little annoying. So many thoughts: The building is awesome -old train station converted into a restaurant = win of all wins. The staff are all super nice, but could use a bit more...guidance? Shall we say? Plus they have a few salads on the menu so people who use ranch for things other than dipping (like myself) may care as well. Plus ranch dressing has basically become ketchups cousin. My waitress had no idea what a hot toddie was which I can almost get down with, seeing as she isn't a bartender and maybe Brooklyn has turned me into a massive snob. My boyfriend and I came here last night, bringing a friend from Austin in tow. The place was busy upstairs but we managed to grab the last booth. The boys had Bourbon and beer and I had the Bajarita (more of a martini, fyi) and damn mine was spicy. It was good but maybe too spicy for a drink as I only had one and it took me the entire time we were there to drink it. However it is my 3rd favorite Jalapeno Infused drink in CT (#1 Peach Kicker - Max's Oyster Bar, # 2 Jalapeno/Pepino Margarita - Besito). I LOVE the Baja Burger but decided to try something different, so I went with the New Englander (Lobster, Smoked Gouda, Caramelized Onion, Lettuce, Tomato, Corn Spread). The burger itself was good and the lobster chunks were definitely decent but to be honest, the beef overpowers the lobster so you can't even taste the lobster. Im glad I tried it, but i won't order it again. Now my guy had the Phili Cheesesteak and that was freakin good. One other thing I tried were the Parmesan Tater Tots and umm yeah, gotsta have some of those again!
