I'm a longtime gym rat and have trained in many old school as well as new gyms. The Gunhill Road Planet Fitness is well maintained and is cleaner than other gyms I have trained in. Sam and the staff can be seen picking up and cleaning after people. I have never seen that in LA Fitness. Anyone who wants to complain about the cleanliness of the gym should go somewhere else and take a good look. They'll come running back. The staff also does a great job of maintaining the equipment. This is an older gym and things do break but they are usually repaired quickly. People can be slobs and people can abuse the equipment but keeping this in mind the staff does a great job of keeping the gym clean and functional. read more

I appreciate the variety of machines for different work outs, but the one thing that bothers me is that considering that this location isn't 24 hours like others I've been to, the dumbbells aren't in these right spots. You have to go searching for the weight your trying to use, and it's not in its right spot. Besides that, I have to gripes. read more

I like this gym. I find the place is clean and the staff generally friendly. As long as they don't allow men to be in , or shave in the women's locker room, I am fine with the facility. Roach infested, all kinds of bugs in the showers, moldy shower curtains really disgusting! Spoke to the young lady there at in the 5:00 am shift, all she does is stare at you like if you are crazy. Crazy is letting homeless individuals use the facilities, and leaving their roaches and nasty smell all over the dressing room, locker room & showers. They need to get RAID & an exterminator to get that place terminally disinfected. Time to change gyms! Speaking to the "management team" is of no use the girl only stares at you like you're crazy. Out of the three Planet fitness locations that I have been to, this is probably my favorite location, because it is the most spacious and does not get as crowded. The staff here are really nice and follow current health/safety guidelines. I usually bring my own headphones to the gym, but luckily on the days that I forget my headphones, the music that plays overhead is pretty good and varied, which reflects the diversity of the membership. This goes a long way to helping new members feel welcomed inside the gym. This is probably the largest gym that I visit and there is an abundance of fitness equipment, with space left over. However, the free weight section does get pretty cramped during the peak hours. I do wish that there was more space in this area. Overall, this is my favorite Planet Fitness location to visit. read more

The Pelham Bay Bronx, location was such a nice place at one time. I live in the area and have been a member since they opened circa 20 yrs ago. It has gone straight down hill recently. Their desk staff is extremely challenged and extremely rude. It has taken me over a week to get a membership transferred back from my Florida home location. (I've been doing this for years without a problem) The transfer is still not done. A million excuses and rudeness. Instead of resolving the issue, they give me: "Why don't you upgrade to Black Membership" comments. I feel like saying "why don't you pay my electric bill?" I'm very disappointed in the way they treat their members. read more

I hate this place. I could go on about the 12 minute ab section and 30 minute fitness section never being regulated in any of the times that I've ever been there... or I could go on about the giant pizza, cookies, and bagels they offer to assist you with your fitness goals, or how disheveled the free weights section remains at all times. But I wont go further into those areas, I'll go into the fact that they make it so tough to cancel the membership. I honestly think it's easier to enter/exit an Illuminati contract than to leave the cult of Planet Fitness. They basically want a 6 page essay, signed, sealed, delivered(I'm yours! (against my will)) in person, regardless of where you are. The hassle-free month-to-month contract is so tough to exist when you aren't in that area. Long story short...just don't. Now I do want to be fair, it isn't all bad. They have a decent sized TV in the locker room. I have to say, I like this Planet fitness to the others that I have gone in the past, its much bigger then the others in the BX, there are more parking spaces you don't have to wait for a machine, there is one open , even if the gym is full. Everyone that comes here looks like they are in the zone, in what they want and what they need, they also have a fitness trainer, that you need to make an appointment , they also have a tanning, and rejuvenation spot . The membership is only 19.99 a month and 39.99 annul fee, I don't think that is bad, and please not forget pizza Monday in the first of the month and they also have a bagel day . As i travel for my work all year i wanted a large franchise membership where i could workout almost wherever i went. This gym seemed to be it. Until i came to this location. I was actually appalled after working out here. However i am bound by location so i continue to come. The free weights are scattered through the gym. Trying to find weights to compete your set takes an average of 5-10 minutes looking for them because NOBODY is enforced to rerack their dumbbells. One of the smith machines has been out of service for the past two weeks. There is a leak in the roof and buckets are strategically placed for the water damage. It has been that way for a month. The clientele do not clean after themselves either. The equipment is filthy. I can usually get through a workout in 45 minutes or less. At this location i am there over an hour and a half because nothing is where it should be. This location has hanged my views on planet fitness in general. Nobody seems to care at this location. I would rather spend the extra money at another gym to avoid this place. It's ghetto and that's putting in nicely. I only give it one star because i still go here for the time being and have drastically lowered my standards. Hiring a couple good employees to enforce common courtesy could go a long way. read more

In the 1780 Gunhill Road, Bronx, NY location, today, Labor Day, at 1pm, the closing supervisor or manager, a white skin latina female, yelled out at patrons to leave. Her commentary included sentiments to the effect of "I don't wanna be here late to 2 o'clock" and "y'all gotta go" and other poorly chosen words. People were already walking out the door in compliance. She rang the alarm 3 times over 10 min. At 12:50pm, 12:55pm, and 1:00pm. it was not necessary for her to be unprofessional and rude. When I mentioned it to her she shrugged her shoulders like she didn't care. This is unacceptable. I am sure she would conduct herself Ike this at Wall Street, Greenwich Connecticut, Etc. There was no need for her to be this rude and unprofessional to paying members of this club. Her attitude, decorum, and behavior was certainly not worthy if a customer service position, let alone closing supervisor or manager. I want a return call from a corporate representative, not a Gun Hill club employee or manager because in my opinion they all cover for each other, and they don't care. read more

This has nothing to do with the gym but rather the parking lot where the gym is located. I would love for someone to explain to me why people think it's ok to dump their trash all over the parking lot. Everyday there is something new - bags of garbage, fast food containers, wrappers, bottles including glass. I won't let PF off so easily - some of this garbage comes from gym members who eat the Tootsie Rolls and can't figure out that the wrapper belongs in a GARBAGE CAN and not the ground. I would ask who raised these morons and I'll refrain from making a racist remark but I'm willing to bet if this PF were in Scarsdale it wouldn't look like this. USE A DAMN GARBAGE CAN! Unprofessional and bathroom is always filthy. Staff is either goofing off by the check in area or not doing much of anything. There are a few staff members, one in particular who is a young darker-skinned Latino or Asian guy whose behavior was very unprofessional. I was a member at planet fitness starting January 18th, 2023. Unfortunately I was involved in a very bad car accident a week later January 27th, 2023. I sustained injuries that made me physically incapable of performing in a gym let alone my every day life. I went to planet fitness's Gunhill location on October 1st, 2023 and spoke with manager Sam, in regards to a refund. I was told before hand via phone that as long as I had documentation to prove injuries and the date of the car accident I would be refunded. Sam stated via check within 14-16 days. I then received a call on October 4th from Sam denying the refund due to the time frame in which I reached out to cancel. I was not only in a coma but sustained a concussion and many other injuries, I under went surgeries and recovery time that still cont. My health was my main priority for the past couple months and I'm now finally well enough to dig into finances. I understand policies but based on the circumstances of this situation, I would expect this to be handled in a more sensitive manner. I'm not sure why the time frame of when I cancelled is important but I do know this doesn't seem fair based on the circumstances. I wasn't unable to contact Planet fitness due to being in a vegetative state. As I also explained to Sam at Planet Fitness's Gunhill Location that I have not once used the facility due to my injuries as stated above, which should also be able to be verified based on their check in log. This was an unforeseen circumstance that I wouldn't wish on anyone. If the manager Sam didn't think the refund was possible he should've stated that he would get back to me with an answer, not say he cancelled my membership and processed a refund, only to later call and tell me the refund wasn't possible at all. I also asked to speak with corporate or someone higher up and was denied that by Sam as well. I am currently Looking to receive a refund for nothing more or less than the amount I was charged, Thank you ! read more

they put water in disinfectant spray bottles !! i have spoken to management, called corporate and exhausted every method possible for almost 1 year to get this location to put disinfectant in the spray bottles. they started using water early last year and nobody from management or corporate cares. i take pride in wiping down the machines, after usage, but why bother it serves no point. someone will reply to this and acted shocked, and nothing will be done about it...as usual read more

Kind of confusing how the door and site says 24 hours.. But its not! It would be hella awesome if it was. The staff if good. Parking is plentiful because its part of a strip mall ( a cheap all you can eat buffet and a few other places) Was ok at first, but is definitely starting to have overcrowding, waiting for machines and then assholes STANDING by machines and saying theyre " using" it when you go to get on.. But if youre not physically on a machine , you shouldnt prohibit some one from going on. I dont know what B.S system or of reps etc... But if youre not PHYSICALLY on a machine, and some one else wants to use it. It SHOULD be free reign to anyone wanting to utilize it, or finish thier work out and keep it moving. The much smaller Fordham location is open 24/7, but not this location? Why?? This is not a complaint about the location itself, cleanliness is up huge since lockdown. It's a complaint about the hrs being limited for no good reason, when the gym is so crowded(MUCH more so than Fordham) when it does open at 7 on weekends due to all of the people who would come in earlier if they could. Clean and cool. No one bothers you. You go, d what you need to do and bounce. The machines are new and easy to use and if you don't know how to use them, someone is always around to help. I've been a member for about 7 years, and I've seen the management change for the better. Presently, the staff always maintain cleanliness throughout shifts which is a plus. The machines are clean, but I do wish they had more machines that allowed for heavy-lifting, and that the free weights would exceed 60 lbs. I've heard the PF DOES have free weights that exceed 60 lbs, but not here unfortunately. The best times are obviously in the morning. All of the seasoned lifters are there and will focus on their workout, but it's fun when you become a regular and motivate each other with other experienced lifters. I'd recommend this gym for those of us who can't afford more, but are still looking for a little bang for their buck. read more

I'm sorry for a gym this is place has a great facility. As for staff and management this place is terrible. I came in to work out the other day and pay my $20 balance as i had received a letter in the mail. the staff member at the counter had told me that i owed $80. i told them i received a letter then i owed $20 and that i wouldn't pay for the other charges. i never received any notice about these charges, no phone calls, no physical staff member told me as i went to the gym up till the other day. I was then told i should speak to the manager in the morning...here's the kicker. The employee had told me the manager will be in at 6/7am so i showed up the next day at that time and no manager. the employee that was on duty told me the manager comes in a littler after 9. So i came back at 10 and low and behold, the manager was in but they were too busy. i was told by another staff member to wait for the manager. I waited 15 minutes, i told the employee i couldn't wait any longer, i had togo to work. she told me the manager is here, just busy running around because his supervisor was coming in for a visit. This is where i'd like to say wtf? you can't take 5 minutes out of your busy schedule to talk to a customer? you're a manager, your staff doesn't know when you'll be in and they can't help me dispute my balance because it requires a manager's attention. I have yet to get the balance adjusted and i still have yet to see this so called manager. This isn't only a gym, it's a business and if you can't manage it properly,you're doing something wrong. read more

Great place to work out in the early AM where it's not crowded. That's when the super lifters or the elderly are in their doing serious workout. When its crowded is when it's loud and you have people hogging the machines and doing everything except working out -_-. Anyway if you're at the gym for the purpose of actually working out I suppose that shouldn't be a problem. The BIG PLUS is that there is parking (YAY). If you bring a visitor they need an ID, they will have their picture taken and phone number taken as well (pretty invasive I think personally) but aside from that it's a decent gym, a bang for your buck. I think if you want to bring your child I believe they have to be 16+. read more

I've had a few gym memberships and all were decent . I came to Planet Fitness for the price and convenience . Boy what a mistake , the gym etiquette and clientele are the worst I have ever seen. This is the only gym where dudes can use the smith machines for over an hour, and within that hour they leave their belongings on the machine to "hold it" while they work on other machines . And.... it is the same people doing it all the time . Dare to ask to jump in to squeeze out a set??? Nope , they will come back and reclaim the smith machine and say they are using it . Pros: They have everything you need to get a greeeeeaaaatttt workout, which I love. So much parking for people who drive. Everyone is doing their own thing. You see people of all shapes and sizes. Judgement free zone. Cons: I only wish the restrooms were a little cleaner. There aren't any seat covers and it grosses me out to use them. Also, I would really enjoy a steam room or a sauna. I go weekly to the Gun Hill Road location because it has ample parking. There are a few things I hate and a few things I love about this location. Loves-My front desk hype man, Ray. He always has a smile and pumps me up for my workout. He's friendly and remembers I end every workout by using the hydro massage machine and gets it ready the minute he sees me heading that way. The other fantastic employee is Kevon who is a trainer at the same location. I recently began using the fitness instructor services. I met with another trainer previous to working with Kevon. I didn't not get the same attention I get now. Kevon remembers what my health difficulties are and always changes my workouts so that it works my muscles and doesn't cause me joint pain. I still feel the burn trust me but in a good way! He works with each person in the training session & remembers what we last did when we worked with him and offers a variety of different ways to work the same muscles, as well as, customizing it to our abilities. He is encouraging and helps me stayed focused on my fitness goals. I've lost 17 pounds so far and a lot can be attributed to his help. He has helped to keep me motivated and I've continued to sign up for sessions with him due to this. These employees are an asset to the location and although I never leave reviews I felt it's only right to commend the ones that make a difference to those customers they serve!!! Hates-It drives me nuts that people do not clean the machines after using them. I do not want to sit in their ass and back sweat!!! I wipe the Machines before and after each use. I wish others had the same courtesy. Other annoying thing-People just sitting at machines and not actually using them is extremely annoying, especially at the 30 minute circuit station. If your not using it get up and let someone else use the machines. The trash cans should be emptied more often and picking up the paper towels people leave at the machines after working out. read more

This planet fitness, yet a little more spacious than others has yet again disappointed me with their broken cardio machines. I've constantly mentioned it to the front desk employees yet they never seem to care enough to mark the machines. After taking time to wipe the machines down only to find yet another machine is not working properly. They really don't seem to care here anymore. Then I'm told all new machines will be added in June. Well what about until June. It ran better when Daniel was the manager. I cancelled my membership in December and they charged my card in January. Called to ask why they charged my card and if they could refund my money. I was told in order to get a refund I would need to submit the paper with the cancellation. It turns out the girl that said she "cancelled" my membership never cancelled it. Now I loose my money if I cant find the paper. And Planet Fitness gets away with having associates that dont do thier job properly. I regret choosing this gym.... read more

The gym is convenient and relatively close to my house. Can get extremely crowded during weekdays evenings which makes it difficult to find a cardio machine and weights. Weekdays and weekends in the morning are perfect times to go. The bathrooms need a little better cleaning because of the odor at times. Overall it's decent to get your workout in quickly. I love the Gun Hill PF. Plenty of parking. Plenty of lockers. The gym recently updated their elliptical machines with USB chargers. Although I'm scared to try it. The gym is pretty big and kept clean. The only machine I wish they get is the pec dec that also works for the rear shoulder. Their pec dec you can only sit facing forward. read more

The staff is friendly, but don't do their job! The 30 min circuit is always filled with ppl who are not using it for that purpose. All of the equipment in this section is available in another area of the gym, so I don't get it. I've called the front desk and mentioned it to the management when I walked in.
