Before dropping in on my friend and his wife for dinner, I had to stop and get in a shower and since I'm a Black Card member, this was an easy stop. And sure, I spent a half hour on the circuit. The showers worked well though the locker room needed a bit of attention. The trash can was overflowing and there were some puddles of water near the showers. Today is Sunday March16, I arrived around 4:40pm. Drove 15 hours to drop off a freight for tomorrow morning. I give this location 0 star..I am a black card.member and I brought a guest, which is my husband. We travel for work. We walked in and scanned our phones before i can even do that the racist white lady said we cant come in with regular shoes and i told her we are getting massages and she instantly said my guest as to be a black card member. I told her i am and how would he be a black hard holder if he is a guest. She instantly had a problem because we are black. I wouldn't recommend nobody from out of town or who works over the road. She said black card members guest cant use the massage chairs. I have been to 10 different locations and never had that problem. The manager believes whatever her staff tells her. Young man behind the counter tells my wife that her card needs to be updated. She gives him her new card and his machine won't work. He proceeds to tell her she can't work out. Does not explain the reason. He threatens to call the police. They then proceed to cancel her membership. You took the monthly fee on 8/19 and the annual fee on 8/1. I went in to try to clear things up and the only story that matters is the one from the 18 year old kid that has worked there for a week. My wife has been going there off and on since they opened. The kid then walks by me and laughs at me. Horrible experience that I will be telling everyone that will listen read more

Planet Fitness is perfect for those who want a gym that fits all their needs at a great price point. I have been a member for about 12 years and have the black card so am able to access any of the locations. I only use locally so not sure if I were in another state how it would that work. You must like purple and gold (yellow)that is the franchise colors it's a lot at first but you warm up to it (it does take a minute) if you are not a fan of those colors! Now that part is out of the way, the staff at Coventry RI Planet Fitness that I see is Max, Jarrod, and Noah. I'm sure there are other employees but these are the only three that I see. Now the space is huge, a lot of cardio equipment, a stretching area, a 30 minute work out area (perfect for a quick work out) a PF 360 (??) not sure if I got that room right, I never use it, free weights, and machines. It is busy and crowded, I'm not a morning workout person, but after work about 530pm. The black card gets you the massage chairs, hydro chair, and hydro beds, as well as tanning, and there is another booth that does something I just have never used it I don't even know the name of it, looks like a stand up tanning but it is not. Now back to the employees. They are friendly, courteous, and work their butts off literally. Now the job entails a lot of cleaning, nobody likes to clean, but they are always trying to keep up washing floors, emptying trash, manning the desk, cleaning locker rooms and bathrooms, it's not fun right, I mean who likes to clean? They do it as it's part of the job, they are getting paid, and don't seriously seem to mind it. Do they love this part probably not, but it's a gym that's a huge part of keeping up the facility. One thing I do not like aside from the crowdedness after work (but expected) is those who don't clean machines after use. I notice mostly "kids" but there are some adults and there is no lobby. You walk through the front door and boom you're at the front desk. It looks time there were two double doors which would be nice as if you are on the cardio equipment it is cold during the winter and with ceiling fans on. Bring back the doors lol! It looks as if no break room for employees which stinks as we all like to get away a bit from our job (lunch, breaks etc..) there is a little closet behind front desk but looks as if for cleaning supplies. Maybe there is another place but it looks like employees go to the black card "spa" to eat and escape. I would love to see an overhaul reorganization with Al the equipment as it seems sometimes (not a lot) but machines are temporarily out of order. And seems as if squished together in certain area, the set up could be more user friendly. Overall if you are looking for a great place to work out, friendly staff, clean, and budget friendly chain gym this is the place. So this location is REALLY nice, giant gym with lots of machines + the locker rooms are so nice + clean as well. The parking lot is great, never have to look for a spot + it is open 24 hours a day! Win win. Except for two things: 1. The staff never says hello/goodbye to me... yet they do to other ppl not really sure why. It could be because I'm better looking than *most* of the people in there *so true*...or because its not my home gym *whatever not an excuse*. Not really sure why this happens... I just want to feel welcomed. Is that too much to ask? I am a black card member + grasping at straws at why this happens *or should i say doesn't happen* EVERY time I go in there!!!!!!!!! 2. Pizza + Coffee in the morning at 6:30am. REALLY? The fact that they have pizza anytime during the month is ridiculous + i know all PF locations do this... it is mean. I joined up a few weeks back and have been coming regularly with my girlfriend. When We went to the gym tonight an employee named mark was behind the counter and told us that we needed to buy masks from him. We thought this was strange as no one else has ever told us this and has always provided a paper mask if we needed one. When I told him that I didn't have my wallet with me and that We didn't understand why he was trying to charge members for something that no other employee charged for, he responded by telling us that those are the rules and that we had to leave if we couldn't purchase a mask from him. Just to clarify, He told us that we couldn't workout Over a $1 paper mask that half the members in the gym weren't wearing and every other business gives away for free. He was extremely unsympathetic, unfriendly and lacked any shred of customer service or common sense. read more

Have been going to this gym for years without an issue. Now they allow kids to work out for free during the summer. Try to work out and there are kids everywhere! Sitting on benches looking at their phones, talking, etc. Would you be upset if there were 10 people in front of you at Dunkin Donuts all getting a FREE coffee but you had to wait... and then PAY!! read more

Went to planet fitness today to work out for the first time and I brought a propel in there with me because I figured hey need to stay hydrated and my account got declined due to me not paying it(I thought I did but I obviously didn't, whatever that was fine) then I say alright thank you and walk back out to my car to go home and the guy follows me out into the parking lot comes up to my car knocks on my window and says "some guy saw you walk in with a propel" but then he says "I need you to pay for the propel that you got from the refrigerator" and after a bit of back and forth I said why would I pay for a drink I bought from a different store and showed him I clearly had another one right next to it and he just says "Ok, Boss" and walks back in the planet fitness. I love this place. I go Mon-Fri. Great atmosphere. Lots of equipment. Staff is friendly. Bathroom and showers are clean. Get a black membership and you get half price drinks, free massage chair, tanning, and water massage bed. No complaints. read more

This PF location has a nice layout, with the weight machines residing between the free weights and the cardio machines. The manager is friendly and professional, and the employees who work the desk generally have a good attitude. The locker room is a bit dated and some of the machines are a little worse for the wear. read more

Soooo many machines! I don't think I've ever had to wait. Tanning kinda stinks, haven't tried the other black card features. I felt awkward at first being so over weight, but everyone is friendly and kinda hoses about their own thing. The bathrooms are also always spotless. read more

I've been a member on and off at the Coventry location since its doors opened in 2010, its location between my home and previous employer made it absolutely impossible for me to weasel my way out of working out. Things happen you get a big-girl job in MA, and you stop going to this gym because the idea of spending another 3 miles in the car is enough to break the pieces of your soul that are left after a 120 round trip commute, work has gyms you're *sure* you will use, you move to providence...etc.... so I stopped frequenting this gym. Well, now I'm back in the burbs, and needing to blow off some steam. I feel I have enought data from this gym to give an accurate, OK!. The machines are starting to show their age, the tv sound hook ups don't really work on all the machines, and the machines themselves are getting that weird sticky feeling to the plastic as well as the grimey sheen in other places from hands gripping and grabbing. A row of ellipticals was removed for a captain's chair and some other stuff that is just too close to the cardio machines for my liking when certain people are there exercising, however they did up their # of bikes from 3 to a solid 8 or so. If you have to wait for a cardio machine, I'm assuming you need to be on a particular machine or refuse to exercise next to someone, as there are always a handful free. I did overhear the man I assume is a co-owner ( he has always been there, has signed me up several times, and was trying to fix something one day) telling another patron that they were going to be getting some new things and shaking things up in June 2015, I hope this means a stair machine!!!! He mentioned kettlebells, which I really hope have a specific area, not anywhere near other people. The locker rooms are clean, I have showered and changed here many times over the year, the only downfall? If you are in the ladies room and someone in the men's room turns on the hot water, enjoy the rest of your cold shower. I'm guessing due to the suburban location they figured they wouldn't have as much traffic in terms of showering and cheaped out with one hot water tank, and logistically its likely it had to be put behind the Men's locker room. read more

Your standard planet fitness, except this is the newest one in Rhode island. Opened over a year ago and I started my membership then.. Open 24 hours, tanning beds, a great amount of cardio equiptment, free weights, and your standard strength training machines. At PF, you can expect nothing less than what you pay for..cheap. I've since switched to the ymca, so at least I get a little value and variety to the cost by having choices of classes and a pool. read more

My son went with a friend that has a membership to try out the gym as a guest. The manager told my son that he couldn't use the gym without parent permission. He then says if you sign up for the gym you can use the gym. My son had no idea what he was doing all he wanted to do was try it out not join so he went back to his car signed up it asked for a credit he put his cash app credit card info in. He goes back into the gym said okay i signed up can i go now the manager said no not without parent permission. So the manager took advantage of my son, manipulated him and lied just to get him to join. He knew my son just wanted to try the gym out not join it. My son went to the gym the other day to cancel it. The manager told him that he had to pay a $59.00 cancelation fee. My son was like what are you talking about I never even used the gym how can you charge me to cancel when I never got my parent permission. They told him you signed the contract. My son told me today what happened so I called planet fitness to say I wanted my son's money back. I told them what you did to him is very unprofessional,sneaky and dishonest. How dare them take advantage of my son like that. I spoke to a worker and the manager and they both said nope that is the rules. They refused to give him his money back. I'm disgusted! I'm calling coperate head quarters tomorrow. So I either get my son's money back or I'm going to the attorney generals office filing a claim with the better business bureau and I won't stop until I get his money back. I'll even go to the news whatever it takes. I am writing this so parents of under aged kids can inform their kids of what planet fitness is doing to get them to join. I want justice for my son. This Planet Fitness is disorganized and incompetent. Entered this Planet Fitness and opened a membership; enjoyed a great workout. Returned in the morning and was told that I already had an account; the account which I mentioned to the person who opened my new account. Apparently my old account was never cancelled out and I had been charged for 2 years. Now I remember walking in and canceling my account; I already opened a new account. Rather than offer me a solution, the manager decides that she "will look past it" but if there are any issues with my bank account I will then be responsible for two years of payments. I said, no thank you, two years of payments of which I never entered the gym. Now, they have my phone number on file and could have called me, but no. Also, my e-mail address where I would have received the cancellation receipt, the same e-mail that I still have today was entered incorrectly into the system. Somehow they are confused as to why they don't have my paperwork and my account wasn't cancelled properly. I think it is pretty clear. read more

I was very excited to learn that Planet Fitness Coventry was opening in Phase 2 after putting on the Covid 19. When I got there, I was surprised that there was no mandate on mask wearing at all. Some people wore them anyway while others, including myself did not. However, 3 weeks after opening, a sign was finally put up mandating masks while walking around the gym(similar to a dining experience, once at a machine or station, don't need to have the mask on) So I complied and started wearing my mask when appropriate. The problem is, even after this rule went up, there are still several members not wearing or even bringing a mask to the gym and are still allowed to work out! Some employees are not even wearing the mask the right way, putting it below their nose. Today while working out it was so blatantly ignored I was getting heated. But, I calmed myself down. Because it is not the customers fault. This gym tried to implement a rule 3 weeks after it should have been, so people aren't taking it seriously. I have only seen one employee question people about their mask and I go at least 5 times a week. I asked the girl at the front desk today if there are any consequences for members not wearing a mask. She replied in so many words 'not really, the best we can do is ask them to put it on.' I don't blame the employees either, most look like high schoolers and college age. But management needs to do something. In a gentle way, explain no mask, you can't work out. Like I said, it's the owner and managements fault for putting in a rule very late and not training their employees how to address it. I've heard grumblings from some patrons about people not wearing masks. It's at a simmer right now, but I would not be surprised if incidents happen in this gym over mask wearing. If you are auto immune or older, I would not recommend this gym at this time. It's too bad because before this, was one of the best gyms I've been a member of. As a parallel just imagine if a teacher tried to implement a rule 3 weeks into the school year instead of the first day. How would those students react?? Some would follow, but many would ignore it. Please management don't give me the "Sorry for your concern" canned response, let me see results. read more

This location let alone company is horrible in customer service. During the time of COVID you would think companies would be willing to work with you but there is no customer service with planet fitness. Every location is a franchise and there's no corporate number to call if they wrong you. They were rude and condescending and there's no one to contact about it. They are their own authority and don't have anyone to answer to. Literally you are nothing other than a dollar sign. I have never felt so embarrassed to be talked to like they did and when I asked is there's anyone else to talk to they smugly said no. You can't use the BBB because they aren't affiliated with planet fitness. There is literally nothing you can do except be treated like crap if they want to. I've been on this planet 41 years and I've never been treated like they treated me at this location. And there's nothing, again nothing, you can do about it. They are their own authority and only do what they want to do. First they say they can't help me at all but then after a few minutes of discussion they say they can if I have what they Require. I was told they can't do anything but then that they won't unless I fit their requirements. The worst customer service I've ever received and I can't go to anyone to help. I will tell everyone I ever come in contact with that wants to go to a gym that this organization is the worst one they could choose. If you look up Google reviews you will see this same type of review and there's nothing to improve it. Of course their ego is why they won't help and they claim there's nothing to help with...,,. I'm pretty sure my money constitutes at least good customer service but again we're just $$ in their eyes. I will never ever ever ever ever ever trust or give my hard earned money to them ever again. Please be warned they are not there for customer service unless you are an active working out type of person. Stuck with Coventry Planet Fitness for about five years until this evening because I was told that I was going too fast on the cross trainer. This is a first after 25 years of pushing myself. She tells me to up the resistance all the way, but I want to run like a dog just out of the cage not trudge through what feels like knee-deep mud. The anti-gym atmosphere that discourages patrons from working too hard i.e the lunk alarm is bad enough, but this is too much. This is the only gym that I have been to in which most people are moving half-heartedly and very few actually use or have the need for a sweat towel. What king of gym is this? It seems like more of a hang out for those who want to take it easy. read more

Awful.. just awful. I came in to get a quick workout instead of going to the bald hill road location. I originally bought the black card from this location, and ultimately put the name on the account as my brothers because he goes a lot more than me and when I go it's normally with him. Anyway, when I go to bald hill road I have no problem going without him, but oh no not here. Normal membership is $10 a month for one person, and the black card is $20 a month for yourself and a guest. I'm basically paying for two people as it is, but god forbid I go alone. You get my annual fee, which lets be honest is bullshit, yet if I signed up for two accounts with "no commitment" you wouldn't get an annual fee from me. So not am I only being robbed of an annual fee; I can't even go to this location. Stay away from this sad excuse for a business. A gym should be inviting ESPECIALLY to paying customers, rather than turning away people. I will be cancelling my membership and reopen one at another gym. Unfortunately, this location has ruined planet fitness as a whole for me and I will steer everybody and anybody I know away from ALL planet fitness locations.
