SO MANY TREADMILLS ARE BROKEN. They have literally had to start hand writing "Out of order" signs because they ran out of official ones. If you ARE lucky enough to get a working treadmill, you have a 50/50 chance of walking on one that has incorrect speed/incline calibration. Your machine will say 4.0mph but it's actually 4.5-5.0mph. Yesterday after work, at least 25% of the treadmills were unusable, and the one I did manage to get wasn't calibrated correctly, but I wasn't going to complain since the rest were full. This isn't a new issue. I've been going to this gym for months and there are always several machines out of order. Everything else about this gym is fine. Front desk - they're nice enough and I haven't noticed any issues, but I've also never needed to seek out their help. Good playlist. read more

All it takes is one crackhead in the locker room to ruin my mood, I know it's not the gyms fault but this lady had a speaker playing gangster rap music in the shower, had a bunch of trash and bags everywhere, I couldn't use any of the mirrors because she was hogging them up with her belongings so I went to the sink instead to fix my hair then she comes over there and starts drying her underwear with the hand dryer :( I was so appalled I did not feel comfortable leaving anything in the lockers I grabbed my stuff and left angrily and with a headache didn't even get to work out, please at least have standards, please regulate behavior like this, don't let ppl get too comfortable at the expense of others read more

She stands and the front desk doing nothing while there equipment she can put back on racks. She shouldn't be the first face you see when you enter the gym. read more

I had a very upsetting experience at this location. Worst gym I ever been too this location pacifically! They should really double check who they hire staff (CRYSTAL) was extremely rude! It's supposed to be a judgment free zone but clearly was not . Got laughed at got judged . Mangment handles situations POORLY . Horrible gym. Went during the early afternoon and everything in the cardio section is broken or calibrated incorrectly. From the treadmills, to the stair masters, nothing is correct. Restrooms are horrible, the young high school kids smoke and throw stuff around in the restroom. Not to mention the manager lady takes 2 hour breaks in her car ! I believe her name is Kat. Finally reviewing the place that's been my third home this past year. Where to begin... I joined Planet Fitness a few years ago but I didn't become a regular until summer of 2022. I finally discovered my passion (strength training) and I started to frequent this gym as much as possible. The gym has parking both in the front, the back, and adjacent street parking as well. I've been to this location many times at different hours. I've never felt unsafe and as a woman that's important. I wish gym members wouldn't leave so much trash in the parking lots but it is what it is. This location recently had a makeover. I wouldn't call it a remodel, since the interior and exterior stayed the same. All of the treadmills were replaced which was great. Machines were moved around and new apparatus was brought in. There are just a few things I'm not satisfied about at this location and that is that sometimes the machine handles are grubby. I feel like they don't scrub down the handles enough and something builds up. Other than that the location is good. I know PF isn't the most popular gym and it saddens me to see it mocked on social media. Why mock a place where people go to better themselves and improve their health? I love to see people from all walks of life work out at this gym. Another one would be the gym staff always at the front, chatting or on their phones. I've been to other locations and I always see staff walk around cleaning and maintaining things. There have been times where I have to walk around to multiple sanitation stations to get paper towels because every station is out. Last but not least, every summer they give students free gym memberships. I think that's awesome to give teens those opportunities to stay active and fit in the summer! It just increases how busy it gets. Overall, I'm satisfied with this location. It obviously has room for improvement and hopefully the owners will work on that. read more

I have complained on several occasions about the cleanliness of the changing rooms. How can you go from just taking a shower to get dressed in this filthy room. I have reached out to the general manager tell her that the walls need deep cleaning, and the floors aren't ever moped. And when I have reached out I feel as though she only wants to be confrontational and combative. These rooms need to be maintained as much as any other part of your gym. And aren't living up to the cleanliness promise of planet fitness. I saw that someone responded to my post to say I should use the portal. Their manager Kat is always seen smiling at all of the members and greeting them when they come in and leave the gym. I have been a regular membership customer for years now.. I decided to upgrade my membership to take advantage of all the perks including tanning. Upon arrival, I asked a woman at the front desk by the name of Kat to assist me in becoming familiar with the perks for the black membership, she said, "sorry I'm the only one up here." So I had to go to the back and look around, I entered the tanning room and did not know how to turn on the machine so I walked back up to the front and Kat is texting on her personal phone. I had to ask how to turn it on and she seemed so annoyed that I was 'bothering' her. She never told me what room to go to, how to use the amenities in the back and had nothing, but attitude. This is the gym that my younger brother comes to, and he just informed me that there was a stabbing in the restroom this morning. A man was full of blood, screaming that someone who looked as though they lived on the streets, stabbed him in the restroom. No alarms, nothing was announced on a PA system, no lights flickering to catch everyone's attention. My brother grabs his things and starts to let as many people as he could to leave because the man was bleeding, and the guy who did it was still in the restroom. The possibility that this man could've shot up the place, even leave a bomb is madness. Pay attention to your surroundings!! And planet fitness needs to have a better emergency protocol. read more

I'm getting harassed here a lot just now by a staff person too - transphobic comments Oh is the email how to contact you about this?, I've been addressing it since I started my membership (it's been months) the staff's transphobia (loud misgendering and verbal harassment being aimed at me constantly) is still not invited or consensual...Is there a way it can be stopped, immediately? Again there isn't one time I haven't been harassed, it's been a lot of times it can then lead to more of it and lead to not consensual sexual harassment too. People often will target me and then proceed to openly harass me ...while I'm trying to workout or do anything, and often I'm being made to feel as if that is normal. Or that I should feel lucky for the attention I'm being given? I don't feel that way about attention and so it's a bit offensive to keep being subjected to a mentality I don't consent to or believe in to begin with ...and like I'm being forced to participate simply for being there, existing there is what is provoking your hatred and harassment. I'm tired of transphobia and hateful commentary from staff especially I just want to be able to workout without getting stalked to be misgendered/ verbally harassed, without getting targeted just for transphobia. read more

1000% would NOT recommend this place! The staff sold the Black Card Membership to my wife and I. They said it wouldn't be a problem if I would come as a guest without my wife. After two weeks going to the gym as a guest now it's a problem! I couldn't be there without her and yet I was able to cancel my wife's account without her even being there? I would be crazy not to come here for $10 a month. I love it. It's open 24hrs a day which is awesome because I'm a shift worker so it fits my schedule. This place has more than enough equipment for me to get back in shape and it's helped me a lot. I do wish the company would get more equipment in there but I understand it's pretty packed already. About 99% of the equipment is in great shape and if something breaks down it gets repaired with 24hrs. The staff is great. I am guaranteed to be greeted when I walk in and when I leave. They are always very helpful and ready to answer questions. If there is any issue with soap or paper towels it gets addressed almost immediately after I mention it to one of the staff. Cleanliness. Seems like the staff is continuously cleaning, vacuuming and dusting. Everyday I go it's all hands on deck with the staff even moving and lifting equipment so that they can clean underneath it. They really work as a team. It just makes it a better experience when the crew has a good vibe and you see everyone working together. I highly recommend this Downey location. read more

Mens Bathrooms is slimy, piss all over the place, hair shavings on the counter, faucets don't work, no soap in dispenser. Staff is so unprofessional. They just hang out, chat and use their iPhones. When you ask them for something they are irritated and border line tyrannical. Equipment doesn't work, clocking in system is hit or miss, black card equipment such as chair and water massage is old and feels like metal to bone. Parking is good, never seem to have a problem with the parking. Cancelled PF membership and went to 24. It's $10 more but much much cleaner and staff is very attentive. Also let them know your coming from another gym and they may be able to give a promotional discount. Your health is worth it! read more

The mats are old, very flat and dirty. You'd be better off bringing a sheet. Also the spray fabuloso disinfectant, which is not a disinfectant, that is used to clean the machines before and after is so strong. I don't want to smell like that when laying on the bench. The manager lady abuses her powers as a leader. she was very rude to me and my guest yesterday, she refused to allow my partner in the gym even thought i have a black planet fitness membership that allows me to bring another person inside the gym, then she proceeds to put a strike on my account and give me a notice saying that if i do anything she doesn't agree with then she will TERMINATE my membership, I have been to many planet fitness' and over the span of several years and i can tell you without a doubt that she is the WORSE planet fitness manager and should be immediately fired from her position! I was there September 17th at 5pm whoever the manager was working at this time needs to get terminated. Please investigate her and you will find out that she doesn't stand with planet fitness morals such as "no critics" and it being a "judgment free zone". read more

It's not bad of a gym, the only thing is yes it is small, but don't look at it that way. As long as you can get a good workout your fine. The windows by the squat rack, they do need blinds though! They really do, the sun hits you while doing squats or a workout, your sweating a lot more which is good then bad. Too much heat right there. They need to invest in blinds. I workout there Monday-Friday. At least check into getting some blinds please! Another thing.. I don't complain about it, it isn't a huge deal but I have told some of the other members. When your working out, and your doing your sets, and your not done with the machine. I've seen other members wait patiently near by until that member or myself is done with that machine. That pressure I hate experiencing. If you want to use that machine, don't sit around and wait. I understand you want to use it, but standing there or asking the member how many sets left? No don't! It's annoying and I take my time! Don't rush me! Don't be annoying. Go do another workout. Not everyone gets the workout they want all the time. I learned that from experience.. When I go to the gym, I'm in my own zone! I don't talk to anyone. I'm there for myself. Another thing! I understand is women want to show what we working with, show off some skin. That doesn't mean you come to the gym with half a bra on?! No! Sorry this isn't a club or a bar! Please respect others! If you want that much attention talk to your partner. Planet fitness Downey has the potential to be a five star location. Unfortunately they have not done an equipment usage analysis. There are certain glaring deficiencies in the equipment count. Currently there is only one fly machine/pec deck and it is seldom available. Most other equipment that is high volume have at least two devices. The devices typically serve to address one muscle group such as thighs or chest.. The Pec Deck serves to address the pectoral (chest) and rear deltoid (back of the shoulders) in two separate exercises. As such people tend to spend more than 15 minutes on it. Simply adding another Pec Deck would enhance the planet fitness experience. read more

I hate to be this guy but this location is not safe. I've been going to this gym for a little over 2 years now and had a wheel and bike stolen from right in front of the gym. When my wheel was stolen the manager said she couldn't help, so I got more locks. The second time my whole bike got stolen and the Manager "Cat" said she can look into it and call me back. It's been 2 days and she said she'd call same day. The police can't even open a case until the manager decides to call. I've been thinking of upgrading my card but honestly after this. What's the point? I know the company makes plenty of money to hire a security guard to at least ward off the homeless and bad actors in the parking lot. How can people workout comfortably knowing their items are not safe in the parking lot? read more

On Tuesday, December 20 at 3:00pm, I was at Planet Fitness in Downey. I placed all my belongings in the locker and closed it with a combination lock, that I bought at Planet Fitness in Downey. After my workout around 3:54pm, I walked inside the women's locker room and found my locker door wide open and my purse missing. There was a black lady standing there near the bench and I asked her who opened my locker and she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. I looked down at the bench and noticed she was hiding my purse in between her black purse and her reusable grocery bag. As soon as I saw my purse, I grabbed it. Maricela, the Manager canceled my gym membership because I stopped the theft from walking out of the gym with my purse and reporting the incident later. Maricela informed me that I should have reported the robbery first and let them handle it, I was treated like a criminal instead of a victim.
