Before I joined Planet Fitness in Fairfield, New Jersey, I was a member of LA Fitness. The LA Fitness in Lake Hiawatha closed so I worked-out at the LA Fitness in Parsippany. Recently, I dropped my membership. You might ask, WHY? The pool and hot tub closed for weeks due to poor water management. Machines were shut down because they required repair and were not fixed in a timely manner. The eight showers were never all working at the same time and the air conditioning broke during the summer. These are the major reasons I gave up my membership but I could get picky and list more. Since I have joined Planet Fitness, their machines are all functioning. Most machines are relatively new. Patrons disinfect the apparatus after use which shocked me. The members are very respectful of others. The members for the most part do not sit on the machines with their Iphones. If you are not using the machine get off it. The gym is cleaned on a regular basis with numerous garbage cans throughout. You won't find litter on the floor. This gym is worlds apart from my LA Fitness experience. Thank God some people know how to run a gym. read more

Planet fitness as a whole, is great. This particular location, stay away from. I've been going here consecutively for 7 months and it's getting worse by the week. If you're a black card holder seeking amenities, you WILL be disappointed! Do yourself a big favor and keep it moving to Cedar Knolls or Elmwood park. This place is trash. I've been coming to New Jersey for years now and lived here during the pandemic which was quite an experience let me tell you! Anyway, whenever I come I typically always come to the Fairfield PF because it is the closest drive and overall I feel like it's the most spacious. Ceilings are tall and there's a good amount of space to spread out in. Yes, I have been to much spaceier locations but for all the locations around like Morris Plains, Pompton Lakes, and possibly East Hanover; this one just feels the least claustrophobic. Anyway this is usually my place to go. But I've changed up my workout routine machines and two of the machines I need and usually use at my regular PF do not exist here. I was looking for the front pull-down machine and the incline press machine and they were nowhere to be found. Granted these could be done with cables and free weights, but it was still a bummer. Also they only have one fly machine unfortunately. I will be coming back and this is still my favorite location but I have to take them down to Star because of this reason. Hopefully they will get these machines someday though. read more

If you're woke, this is your gym! Owner has CNN, MSNBC and Morning Joe on for news channels, he has Fox Business but not Fox news, yup if you go there you need to be woke! The manager doesn't have the ability to switch channels, so you're forced to see just the channels that have been selected for you, NO REQUESTS! Hey, on the bright side, the freaking gym is empty, so his limited clientele has plenty of open machines and free space. I'd prefer a livelier group with everyone's views represented, freedom to request a channel that I want to watch and not be restricted to what the owner wants on his T.V's. Don't have much gym experience but most of the negative reviews have to do with billing practices. These are franchises, so you really do need to be careful. After reading these billing horror stories, I opted to ask to pay for a one year membership. I told them that they get such bad reviews about billing problems and I didn't want to give them checking account info for automatic membership renewal. They were reluctant at first but asked the franchise owner and he agreed - if I paid upfront in cash. I knew it would be more doing it this way and had to do a Black Card membership (about for a $400/yr = $33.00/month). But I thought it was worth it as my daughter or wife could go with me as a guest, anytime, as many times as we wanted, and I could go to other locations across the country (I travel for work). The other location near me in Woodland Park Would not do a cash upfront deal. I'm glad I didn't opt to make that location my "preferred location" as it's smaller, not as well equipped, darker and the treadmills are older models. They also had a lot of empty paper towel dispensers and fewer of them. The staff at the Fairfield location have all been kind, friendly and they seem to be constantly cleaning the equipment, which I like. Maybe it's the time of day I go (early mornings) but I haven't experienced rude staff like the other reviewers. Overall, a nice place to workout for those of us that aren't muscle heads or require hardcore training. read more

The the odds of me joining this gym 90%, I walk in and ask if I can try it out for a workout. Yes, for $21. Well no, but I said can I at least walk through and check it out. They said no. Hahahahaha I have belonged to gyms for 40 years, workout at the least 5x a week. Retro recently had an influx of new people and I was looking for a less crowded gym. How stupid are they???? The area is clean and spacious. There are many, many machines, as well as other equipment. Staff is always pleasant and helpful. Members are polite and appropriate. Parking is good, and it's located near Sprouts and other stores. The massage chairs and hydrobeds are amazing! I would suggest they add a second rear-fly, since it is a very popular machine. read more

2023-08-27 Update. After more than 3 years of billing after cancellation, they finally stopped after threats of lawsuits. They of course have not returned any of the over $500.00 they owe. I have sent emails, visited in person to cancel, sent cancelation letters, made phone calls to the location, emailed and spoken with their customer care division and ABC Fitness Solutions, LLC., which is the parent company, and everything in between. After my last phone call in May to the location, they confirmed that my membership was canceled. They wanted me to come back in, but I had to force them to understand that I had moved more than 1,000 away from NJ and could not just come in. It took years and more hours than you can imagine, but they did confirm it was canceled, but it seems like they just said that to get me off the phone as they are still charging me the monthly fee of $23.54 and have been since I tried to cancel in November of 2020. That's $517.88 they have taken from me after my "cancellation" request. Not sure where to go from here other than to seek legal advice. Or reach out to news media to expose these people. I've been here three times already and I am so in love. I mean yes it is a brand new Planet Fitness so it's going to be spotless BUT this gym has features like no other. I've never seen the cardio machines with the apps built in. So if you log in with your planet fitness barcode and last name, you get access to apps like YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, MyFitnessPal, Twitter, Vevo, Hulu+, and Weather. So awesome, I was able to watch some YouTube videos while on the treadmill. Also it has a USB cable so no matter what device you have, you can charge it, if needed. The cardio machines also have a fan that has three speeds. This gym has three rooms against the back wall. One for the black card members were the massage beds/chairs and tanning beds. The 30 min work out room and then the Stretch room that also has some machines in there for legs and abs. Stretch room is pretty narrow but it's bigger than others I've seen so it will definitely do. They also have two rowing machines which is awesome ! My new home gym love how close it is to my job and my apartment so I can basically live here. Oh and the BEST part is that this one IS 24/7 !! read more

My sister recently went to this location looking forward to work out. She came back distraught and annoyed because this location refused to let her in because she was wearing a SURGICAL GRADE mask. Apparently, the guy at the front desk said they only allow bandana or cloth masks which are LESS efficient at combating covid which is medically proven. No where on the planet fitness website does it say they only allow cloth masks/ bandanas. Needless to say we are both finding another gym to take our business. Love this gym because of the employees but particularly Lu. Always remembers my name, so friendly with all guests and is always working and cleaning. Always has a smile on her face, so pleasant. I used to go to other PF locations but to be honest I keep going to this one because of her. When the gyms finally opened up after shut down I watched her clean diligently (and she still does). she is the only one I ever see cleaning (I go every day). I noticed when she's not working it's not as clean, usually when I go at night. Just a reccomendation for management- please consider hiring another cleaner because it seems impossible for one person to be able to maintain the cleanliness no matter how hard she works during her shift. read more

Had trouble canceling membership once moving from NJ to VA. Sent letter as required and then Covid-19 hit so I thought membership was canceled because my checking account was no longer being hit with the monthly charge. After the gym opened back up recently I guess our account started getting billed again. The 5 Star rating is for front desk associate named Ed. Spoke with him and shared our frustration about the situation and after about 5 minutes looking for our account # we found it. Long story short, he jumped thru hoops to cancel the membership effectively immediately without having to send ANOTHER LETTER. read more

They charged me $41.58 without warning when gyms are not even open at 100% capacity and people don't feel safe going to them. I had to go to the gym to cancel my membership and was told they would contact me within a few days about the $41.58 refund. This never happened. I have repeatedly called and emailed but have heard nothing back but crickets. PLANET FITNESS STEALS MONEY FROM THEIR STRUGGLING CUSTOMERS IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC. Disgraceful. Joined this gym last month and have been going a few times a week so far. Very clean gym. Staff is super friendly and always ready to help which is awesome. Tons of cardio and weight training machines. I've never had to wait for either. I use the hydro massage machines about once a week and it's feels AMAZING Two complaints, although not total dealbreakers: 1. It's pretty hot in here and they never turn on the huge fans they have! All the other planet fitness I've been to have those ceiling fans on year round. The cardio machines have small personal fans, but those don't do much 2. No ARC cardio machine. I love those! Also the WiFi is a little shaky, but it's free! read more

After reading the reviews ..... proves that they have issues with their willingness to cancel and just keep charging or rather taking money out of someone's account. This is a fairly new gym with lots of equipment. The problem is the women's locker room,showers and bathrooms are always below par. The sinks outside the bathroom need the drains cleaned. The showers need a deep cleaning EVERY week. There is constantly mildew and black disgusting goop in the corners every time I try to use them. Have given up because the staff doesn't clean them. If you just want to use the equipment it's fine. read more

I broke both my ankles at the end of November. I called to cancel my membership since I will not be able to walk for the next several months let alone go to the gym. They gave me an issue because i didn't call before the 10th to cancel. I was in the hospital sorry i didn't think so call right away! I did send over an email on the first of the month and no one got back to me.. The manager "Sade" told me she couldn't do a refund because she doesn't have access.. she gave me some guys number named greg who I then called and he said he doesn't even know how i got his number bc he is not in charged of the FF location... I let it it go.. took the L and made sure i wont be getting charged again.. they emailed me a confirmation that i will not be getting charged. i looked at my bank account AND I WAS CHARGED AGAIN!Im not to sure what is so hard about canceling a membership due to medical issue with unforeseen circumstances. I called again after being charged they gave me another Gregs number who never called me back in regards to these payments. I got a missed call from SADE the manager that I need to go in person to give her all my paperwork from my drs saying I can't make it to the gym anymore.. I can't even drive.. going up and down the stairs to get into my house are enough as is. no consideration. horrible service. rude. where is the empathy. even a medical emergency and they try to fight you to cancel your membership read more

Planet Fitness requests members provide checking account information for monthly payments rather than a debit card. There is a very deceptive reason for this. If you choose to cancel it MUST be done in person despite our current PANDEMIC. Jessie from the Fairfield location told me it could be done by email as he did not want to answer my questions over the phone. I contacted corporate (located the number myself as Jessie said they were not provided with that information) and was told cancellations must be in person. They are counting on people being afraid to go in person due to the pandemic and then they are able to continue charging your account. I am reaching out to local health departments to make sure they are aware of this. I also brought a copy of the cancellation statement to my bank, it was there I was told of the reasoning behind Planet Fitness wanting a checking account rather than a debit card. With a debit card you just stop by your bank and can be issued a new one, this immediately stops Planet Fitness from taking money at will. My bank is moving forward on getting my money refunded. Jessie lied when he said they had no contact information for the corporate office, this was confirmed by corporate. read more

But I waste more time walking around the gym to find FILLED paper towel dispensers than I do working out! And what's up with the toilet tissue is that locked up with the paper towels!? Come on! This gym started out great it's closely coming to it's 2 year anniversary already. I first do not like the fact that you have to sign into their cardio. This is time consuming and when your time is limited that is frustrating to say the least. This is not my home gym but it's close to where I work. I am very dissapointed of the last experience I had at planet fitness. Julie the new manager was not professional, polite and extremely hostile. It's not what she said, it's how she said it. When confronted and I stated that I will report to corporate and asked Julie for corporate contact no. she stated she doesn't know the contact or she doesn't have a contact. To top it off, when I came back and asked for something else, she totally went berserk shouted on top of her lungs for me to leave the facility at once, she was being harrased and that I should go now. Impressive cover-up...poor Julie the victim. I can't say much more. I was able to get Gregory Laughlin contact and have called the office, left two messages. So far no call back or follow-up. There are many young ladies and fellas that work there and super pleasant and friendly. This is first but it is a reflection on the company. Being a corporate employee, I know no matter what you don't lose your cool on customer and you watch that tone. No one should be yelled at especially when you attend the facility to relax and enjoy the experience. Manager should be equipped with all the contacts at all times. Thank you! read more

I'll give this place 3 stars the place is better then other places I've been to but the 3 stars are cause of the night staff every time I go the place is dirty there's never paper towels the spay bottles are empty the bathroom are dirty the locker room has paper on the floor at times there no soap to wash your hands the garbage cans are full mean while the staff are doing nothing but watching tv there was a time they had two good works at nigh a young kid forgot his name he had long curly hair and a girl name Kayla I remember the name cause it's the name my little girl has but anyway they keep the place clean they use to get a rag and clean every machine one by one they would fix the weights and put the weights where they go they worked every time and they made that place worth going to I use to tell my coworkers to switch from woodland park to come to the one in Fairfield but now I wouldn't even bother you guys need Responsible workers and not a bunch of slackers that gets paid to stands around and watch TV wish I got paid at my job to do nothing that would be great read more

I signed up for a gym membership and was never told that after two months they would be charging me an additional $41. When I spoke to the manager, Dorian, he told me that it was in the fine print when you signed and I told him that I'm sure it was but don't you think this information should have been communicated verbally? $41 may not seem like a lot of money to somebody but it is to me and if I new their was an additional fee I would have never signed up because I simply don't have the money. After going back and forth with Dorian a few times I decided to take the high ride and look for another form of recourse. Bare in mind I never got so much as a "my bad" from Dorian and the whole situation could have been handled more professionally. Needless to say the customer service was lacking. Anyway, I was told to go on the website and email corporate to try and remedy the situation so I did. Shortly thereafter I received an email from corporate saying sorry but we don't handle those kinds of situations and that I need to contact the branch manager. Lol Sounds like the run around to me and we all know how that goes. I've since canceled my membership wish is an inconvenience to me and this all could have been avoided if someone would have simply told me that their was additional fees when I signed up. The membership is supposed to be $10 a month and I was charged over $80 all together in less then two months. Maybe it's me but that just doesn't seem to add up. read more

Transferred my Planet Fitness membership to this location today. Capable young woman staff member at the desk made this transfer easy peasy. Very professional and likeable. Place is very clean- smells nice, too. New machines all around. Netflix... what's not to love... Highly recommend. read more

the gym itself is a good clean friendly gym. The reason for the one star rating is managment runs the place terribly. I have gone in the gym in the past with a scheduled time to meet with the trainer and to be told sorry he couldnt work with me. When i asked why the management would say sorry he isnt allowed to train people on this day huh???? So i go in today to meet with the trainer and am advised that he isnt there today. I now ask questions as we had an appointment so why wouldnt he be here I wonder. They woudlnt give me any information and it seems as though he was let go. This trainer was the sole reason i continued to go to this gym he was always friendly and helpful. He never made you feel funny or awkward he was just teaching you the proper form and making sure i didnt hurt myself. From the time i have been going to this gym i have met and spoke to all the regulars who attend this gym. Everyone there i have spoken to has all had nothing but good things to say about this trainer. Im not sure how someone gets let go if they are doing their jobs and all the paying customers are happy with the employee. I feel like this is a management problem as in the year + iv been there i have seen multiple employees quit as they were unhappy with the work enviroment . Perhaps someone above management should take a look into the way things are being ran here . If you have multiple employees quiting or being fired theres more to it than meets the eye. Problem i truly feel falls on the management and bring back my favourite trainer!!!! read more
