I have been paying for a membership for over two years and had my appendix out and haven't been in the last few months. They remodeled and took out half the equipment I used and a lot of women and elderly use. I'm searching for a new gym now. Highly disappointed in this renovation. The express room is missing a lot of machines. They also made the massage rooms more accessible for people to see you while you're relaxing. Not a good idea. read more

READ THIS! My wife and I have been attending pf at Shadeland for many years. We've also visited pf gyms in OH, PA, NY and NJ. Under the leadership of Jason and Zack I compare all gyms to the Shadeland pf. I LOVE the Shadeland pf because Jason and Zack care about their members. Not long ago while my wife and I were exercising, I suffered a medical emergency. Zach, Jason, and John not only took care of me (called 911, treated me on the spot), but also took care of my wife who has mild dementia. They were so caring and calming towards her at a very scary time. Since then they continue to show love and compassion to not just us, but it's visible to ALL the members. When we began using pf at Shadeland we lived 5 min away. Since then we moved 20 min away and would not even consider joining another gym than this one. All gyms have treadmills, free weights and stretching. Pf at Shadeland is truly unique, and the caring, attentive staff make it a truly special place. I recommend highly! read more

It's a great location but super small and very busy, gets crowded fast. Staff are nice. My biggest complaint is that they don't turn on the AC in the summer. Today when I worked out it was 78 degrees inside, and this was on a less busy day - it's worse when it's packed with people (there are thermostats all throughout showing the temp). The only air movement comes from the giant fans on the ceiling. I go to the gym to work out INDOORS, especially in the hot summer months, where I won't pass out from a heat stroke while I'm exercising. TURN ON THE AC! read more

This Planet Fitness is close to my house and so reasonably priced that I could not NOT join. I am by no means a "gym rat" nor am I a fan of muscle-bound-roided-out-meatheads, so this place and it's "no judgement zone" philosophy seemed to be perfect for me. Heck, all I really needed was a warm place to move my booty during the cold months. Aaaaand check. Sure, there are some more intense folks that come here but for the most part, I have never felt uncomfortable, gawked at, or been awkwardly hit on -- so it's got that going for it. All ages, shapes, fitness levels, and walks of life can be found here. There is an option for personal training (at no additional charge) should you choose. This location is always clean and the desk staff has been friendly. There are a TON of TVs, a variety of weight-type machines, free weights, an "ab and stretching area", a timed circuit area, and just about the right amount of ellipticals, treadmills, and arc trainers. There are only a few stationary bikes at this location, so if that's your thing you may be disappointed. $10 a month (plus a once a year fee of like $39) gets you access to all of the above. For an additional 10 bucks ($20 a month) you get to be a fancy "Black Card Holder" which also gives you access to the tanning beds/booths, massage chairs, and 2 hydromassage beds. The Black Card also allows you to visit any participating gym in the country -- good for those who travel I guess. In full disclosure, this is the first gym that I have ever been a member of, so keep that in mind. But I dig it. Hit it during the day for smaller crowds as it tends to pack up after work between about 5-630. read more

Ive been going to this gym since it opened! I love planet fitness as a company because it offers a huge variety of machines and cardio equipment. Classes are even an option as well! A nice plus is the price, 10 for the white card and 20 for the black card. The shadeland location is always clean and the staff is friendly! They also have bagel Tuesday's at the start of the month as well as a pizza night. If you are a black card member you can use the hydro bed or massage chairs as well. pLanet fitness also offers tanning to those with a black card. This is the filthiest gym I have ever been to!! The staff doesn't wear mask and if u ask them to they just say no. And is it really hard to show up clean and with your hair brushed not looking like u slept I your clothes to save time n the am. Dont bother w the manager her response will be a long missive on how that isn't what happened. Just cancelled membership. The Ys n town are awesome. I chose this gym because of proximity and price. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. I think it's pretty clean, I haven't seen any noticeable dirt, grime or wear on the machines. It is a small space and doesn't have some basic gym equipment like kettle bells, but I always get in a nice well rounded workout. It's rarely crowded as of late, I don't feel like I have to wait long for equipment. I plan on being a member here for a while. read more

I do belong to this gym but don't feel it's kept up to par as far as cleanliness goes. The same spots of dirt and whatever else have been on the floor for a week at least. I don't like the new hours either because I'm a morning workout sorta guy. I'm fortunate enough to have equipment at home but enjoy a little diversity on workouts so I go there. I can only do weekend mornings and that's ok for what I pay. Masks aren't enforced at all either. It is what it is I guess....And no need to reply to this from the "management" because in seeing other complaints from other members, they aren't being addressed anyway. read more

Finally went for a work-out as a guest of a friend. I still haven't gone through the sales pitch, so I can't speak for the attitude/etc. of management. My friend who took me as a guest really loves it. They still have a $10 down and $10/month special going on, but I don't know how long the special will last, or how long the $10/month is good for. Based on my past experience with Cardinal Fitness, here's my view of the financial aspect. A gym business cannot stay in business charging only $10 a month or even $20/month. They will be forced to eventually (within a year of opening) raise rates at least to $25/month, assuming they still have a bunch of people who join but don't go. If they can't make a profit on a large percentage of members who are "people-who-join-but-don't-go", then they will have to charge in the range of $30/month and up. Right now, everything is brand new. Plenty of TV screens (choose the audio on the dashboard of your exercise machine). Lots of treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, recumbent bikes, weight machines, and free weights. There is a stretching and situp area. And a special timed cardio area, that i forget the name of, and don't remember the name of the stations. You switch stations every 60 seconds or something like that. At the present time, there is a good mix of regular average people, overweight people, fit people, and "muscle heads". There were some *serious* bodybuilders when I went. There are some water-massage tables, and a couple massage chairs that you pay extra for (coin operated things). See the hours I mentioned in previous review. There are three places in the neighborhood that are closer to me (Peak Performance, Anytime Fitness, and Liv Rite Fitness). But this place (Planet) is not enough to get me to go further out of my way. Actually, i'm just using my apartment fitness center because it's free. But if I were to pay, I'd go to Liv Rite as first choice, or to Anytime Fitness if I needed 24-hour access. One reason to join Planet Fitness, and the same applies to Anytime Fitness, is that they are national chains, and for an extra monthly fee, you can buy an option that gets you access to all nation-wide locations. So if you travel regularly, and those places have franchises at your destinations, check them out. read more

To me this place is exactly what I need and I thank God that they moved in last February. I signed up before they even opened and have been going regularly ever since. Has it worked? You bet. To date, I have lost 105 pounds. Of course I have also had to change my lifestyle and now eat properly by using another fitness app, but planet fitness has everything that I need. And for only $10/month! I'm 60 years old and feel completely comfortable around all the others working out. No one has ever said a negative comment. Everyone is supportive. Especially great has been the staff even though I'm old enough to be their father or even grandfather. They have been so supportive of my weight loss journey. They have plenty of cardio devices. Being retired I go in the morning when the "crowd" is light. And the weight machines are perfect and plentiful for my needs. read more

Good luck canceling when you need to. I went to the location at the beginning of December to cancel my membership, I thought everything was completed and since I am using a new bank I didn't give it a second thought. Apparently the staff is incompetent and didn't finish the process. I started to get texts saying I owed a bunch of money. I called their call center attached to the text, the representative assured me he would correct this and cancel the account and make sure all the fees were removed...here we are in February and I find out they sent my "bill" to collections. I am currently on the phone with the call center again and they really can't do anything except email or try to call the club. I was told they were not able to get in touch with management...I'm not shocked...management is never available. I'm even more annoyed that the first representative said he was going make sure the cancellation process went through and and that the account wouldn't be charged. At no point in time did he say he had to email or call the club like the other representative just told me. The second representative read the notes on the account and this person typed that he told me to go to the club. I swear I should have recorded all of these conversations. And I guess their answer is to go back up to this same club and try to cancel again *eye-roll* I have had my membership since 2015 and have NEVER been late on a payment. This is just disgusting. It's not like I knew for almost 2 months that I was being billed for monthly, annual, and late fees...keep in mind I have an new bank so I would never have seen charges. read more

This is a good gym. Although a bit smaller than other Planet Fitness clubs I've seen, they're stocked with a decent amount of quality treadmills and my favorite, the Life Fitness elliptical machines. The men's locker room is very clean and the staff, for the most part, are cordial and very nice. Lastly, you can't beat the price of membership and there are no contracts to sign. That said, if you join, don't come to the 75th and Shadeland Ave Planet Fitness club; I don't want this awesome gym to be ruined by overcrowding;-P. J/K. read more

This Planet Fitness is very small compared to some I've been to, and it's lacking some of the variety of machines and free weights that some PF locations excel with. However, despite it being small, I do like the way everything was set up, and there was still plenty of equipment to cater to everyone. There are ample cardio machines available. Customer service was decent and the locker room is pretty small but it is clean. This isn't my favorite location, but it gets the job done! read more

I've been wanting to join a gym for awhile now, but really did not want to pay $50+ a month. Planet Fitness has exactly what I'm looking for - abundance of workout machines with a low monthly fee. I got a free t-shirt and gym bag when I signed up, which I use to haul my gym clothes around. It's close to my job so I go during my lunch hour. When I go, there's only ever a handful of people there so it's pretty quiet. But there's a lot of machines so I have never had to wait to use one. There is a trainer available walking around so if you have any questions or need some tips, just find the person in the yellow shirt. The changing room/bathrooms are neat and clean, so can't say too much about those. I'm not the black card member, so I can't comment on the extras. But for $10/month, you really can't beat Planet Fitness. read more

The staff at this one ruins the entire experience. The men's locker room only had 1 bench and it was like 3 feet wide. What am I supposed to do, sit on the floor to change my clothes? Great location. Good staff. People of all types frequent this place, so you'll never feel out of place. Only real complaint I have is that it seems like the hydro massage tables break at least a couple times a month. Nothing too serious but enough to be annoying if you frequent them. When I was in town for a week, I called this place and the representative told me I could get the monthly subscription and then cancel it and I would not be charged. But after a 15-minute drive there, the guy at the front desk very condescendingly said they would charge me $20 for a day pass, even if I signed up for the monthly membership. Very reasonably priced and open 24-5. However this gym in particular is smaller than most of the planet fitnesses that I've attended as a black card holder. It is lacking in several areas. It doesn't have near as many cardio machines as other PF's nor does it have a room dedicated strictly to ab workouts. I went in to start a membership and received a tour from a woman employee who then asked me to fill out paperwork. Once I was finished filling out the paperwork, the employee was no where to be seen for 20 minutes. I went to the two girls behind the counter to ask about this woman and was told that the woman who gave me the tour was apparently "being talked to by her manager." Whatever that means. The two behind the counter didn't seem to be bothered by the fact that I was a potential new member nor did they show any concern or need to go and find her. I sat back down and waited another 10 minutes until once again I got annoyed and spoke to the girls. Again, they lacked any understanding of customer service by doing absolutely nothing about the disappearance of this woman MID-SALE. Now, given any other situation, I would have stormed out of the establishment and took my business elsewhere...but to be frank, I'm not going to this gym for their customer service. It comes down to mere location and the convenience of no contract. I was going to sign up regardless. It's just unfortunate that this place has zero regard for their patrons. I eventually demanded to speak to the manager, which, thankfully, brought both the manager and the tour woman to the front desk. The manager seemed clueless about the fact that I had been waiting, which means the woman who had given me the tour never even told him that she was in the middle of a sign up. The manager gave a less than sympathetic apology and I was able to finish up my membership. To be frank, it was poor service at its finest. But hats off to you, Planet Fitness, for taking my money in the end. Please note it was due solely to your location and no contract policy and absolutely, positively NOTHING to do with your customer service. read more

I have been to many planet fitness locations in Indianapolis, as well as many in other states, and am shocked at the way the planet fitness at the Shadeland location is run. The facilities are usually dirty and the paper towel dispensers are always empty. Overall very disappointed with the employees, manager, and the facility as a whole. I transferred to the shadeland location and then upgraded to a black card membership. I love this location! It seems a bit smaller than my previous location (on west 38th) but still has all the same equipment and bonuses (hydro massage, tanning) so I don't mind less square footage. I tried to cancel my membership. You HAVE to go to the facility where you signed up. They could not locate my name or membership # questioning me numerous times if I was sure this is where I signed up. My error but when the young lady finally claimed she had my file, she stated she had "taken care of it and it was cancelled" Next bank statement stated otherwise, I call to question why, and I get the same song and dance, You sure this is where you signed up.....Now I have to go back in and try again to cancel my membership, I am sure as well I can kiss the $10 goodbye.... read more
