I've been a member of this Planet Fitness since it opened around 2013. Despite the facility being relatively small, I've generally been very happy with my membership and have enjoyed working out here for more than a decade. Unfortunately, my experience changed after the recent equipment renovation. I was excited to see the upgrades, but I left feeling disappointed. While I appreciate the investment in new equipment, replacing the Life Fitness machines with Matrix equipment was a step backward in my opinion. The rowing machine, in particular, is significantly less comfortable and enjoyable to use than the previous model. The larger issue, however, is the gym's layout. Space has always been a challenge in this facility, and the renovation seems to have made it worse. Benches are now split between the front and back of the gym, while the dumbbells are also separated into different areas. Some weights are located near the benches, while others are positioned near the front entrance with no benches nearby. There doesn't appear to be any logical flow, making workouts less efficient and more frustrating than before. I do recognize that management was trying to improve the facility by adding equipment and expanding weight options. However, the reality is that this location may have simply outgrown its space. The lack of organization and overcrowded layout have been ongoing concerns for years, and the renovation has not solved those issues. It's disappointing to say this after more than 10 years as a member, but I will likely be exploring the new fitness facility opening at Oro Valley Marketplace this summer. I appreciate the staff and the effort that went into the upgrades, but the overall experience no longer meets my needs. read more

Believe me I can stink eye just as good as the next but it's ridiculous to be territorial in a gym of this size. Hey! You can hog all of the machines in the 30 minute express workout area without worrying about it being monitored by staff because they do t go anywhere near that space. So it's gonna fall on the patrons who only have 30 minutes to work out to do their job. That's why I quit. read more

We've been going to this Planet Fitness for almost 9 years. They just recently shut down for two days and upgraded the cardio equipment. What a HUGE disappointment. They got rid of at least a third of it. They went from 12 ellipticals to 6, they had two full rows of treadmills down to half, the bikes are down to two upright and two recumbent and the added two spin bikes. They added more strength machines and weights in tiny areas. There is much more space between the strength machines but no room between ellipticals. You practically hit knuckles with the person next to you. There wasn't much room to stretch on mats but now there is even less and the area is at the opposite end of the gym from where the mats are. They went to the brand Matrix instead of LifeFitness, which suck. There is no one to give you instructions on how they work, you just have to figure out. The music has been so loud lately you have to increase your volume on your EarPods. This gym is smaller than any other PF that we've been to and now it REALLY feels like it. And we have been told it's one of the busiest in town. The row of TVs that used to be over cardio machines are now useless. What a MAJOR disappointment!! They obviously are changing to a more weights than cardio gym. read more

So due to conditions below I went into the gym today to cancel our membership (wife and I) . Since the bill had just cycled on 12th I figured we had a credit. Instead the chilly side kick chick behind the counter reminded me that I had SIGNED A CONTRACT THAT CLEARLY STATES YOU MUST CANCEL BY THE 10th OR PAY FOR WHOLE MONTH. ( that's how I always trained my staff to try to persuade a 5 year customer not to cancel- icing on the cake babe). (Hey HQ she is brunette, and worked the afternoon shift today 2/14 around approximately 3:30pm just in case at the Rooney Ranch location) :) Here's why I canceled: If you just want to hop on cardio and listen to your own streams, it'd be fine. Friendly staff, plenty of free parking and usually not crowded, depending on the time of day. It's an older building in need of cleaner equipment, shower tiles or a simple dusting of the area might help. Not my place to spend their money. Comfortable work out area with others minding their own business. The extra membership is worth the cost. read more

They accept ALL service animals in there, including anxiety dogs. Who wants to work out beside a long haired dog inside a gym that is poorly ventilated? The people that actually need service dogs should only be allowed in there. The woman needs a service dog when she's on the treadmill at a 16 incline and hanging on for life but she needs her service dog. She is NOT handicap. The people that actually need service dogs have proper documentation on the dog and it is helping them out. Evelyn, the so called "club manager", accepts all kinds of animals. She doesn't care as long as you're paying your monthly payment. I refuse to go back. I will include a picture of her business card, not that it helps. I guess she wants to manage a zoo. Also, your TV selection stinks! You have all news channels and very few other options. Plus the TV Land on is NOT the correct choice. You obviously don't know or don't care. I hope the night shift guy, Robert, can find a better job outside of Planet Fitness. I will also get in touch with the corporate office and the BBB. I just signed up for PF in anticipation of their new location opening, but decided to try this one out in the meantime. When I walked in, I told the person at the counter that I had just signed up and had never been there - I expected at least a brief intro and tour, based on previous gym experiences. But I was offered nothing of the sort. Instead, he said "okay, sign in". After I asked him how to do that, he said told me how many locations I could visit and said "have a nice workout". I'm no stranger to gyms and I'm capable of finding things on my own, but he could have pointed me to the locker rooms at the very least. I will not be back to this location. read more

Why do you have to listen to a 6 minute recording just to have your hope of speaking with a human snatched away because apparently they don't speak with you if you're not already a member, but you can't ask a recording if they have a specific piece of equipment so you can get a membership going.... Wasting that much time for an unanswered question is just crazy work though. read more

This place is small. I actually found out it os the smallest PF in town. But more importantly, as I went through my routine, i found it isn't as well equipped or maintained. For example, I couldn't locate my favorite 2 1/2 lb plates to bump up my total on the smith machine. Moreover, the showers are small with no shelves. The floors in the dressing room had a lot of dust bunnies swirling about. And the massage beds, which appeared to be modern, had broken settings such that one cannot set where the jets stop. Overall, it'll do the trick but it isn't calling me back! read more

Leaving another review to say, I do really like this PF, the employees are super nice. It's always pleasant there, BUT my only beef is how darn hot it is!! I get it, it's a gym, but it was so hot in there today, I asked another member if they thought so too, apparently it's not just me! Usually you at least get a blast of cool air in the locker room, even that was toasty. I've asked about it before, it's always " being worked on", etc. I called another PF and was told their A/C is running at about 72-75. At any rate, it's starting to affect my workouts and cause headaches, and yes I hydrate like crazy. I'll be driving the extra miles to hit the other location to try out. Decent gym with well kept equipment however, their theme of "judgment free zone" is totally hypocritical when right next to that statement is the judgment of some guy (Ricky) who slams heights, wears tank tops and drinks out of a gallon jug. So apparently if I wear a tank top and drink water out of a gallon container it's ok for you to judge me and call me an awkward, heavy, or stupid person which is the correct definition of a lunk? Other derogatory statement about men refer to us as coming to the gym just to whistle at women and a dress code regarding "gymtimidation" of stringed tank tops referencing some judgmental stereotype of a bodybuilder. Honestly in 30yrs of working out in gyms I have never seen anyone whistle at anyone and if you're looking for a proper dress code you should include half dressed people whose outfits leave little to the imagination and do nothing for that persons self esteem. Equipment is ok. Showers and drinking fountains are very dirty. Not like if they can't see where people drink water..... if you have time to lean (which is a majority of the time) you should have time to clean. Take pride in your job. read more

To many cardio machines and not enough lifting equipment. Left here because I'd routinely be waiting an hour for a rack or another lifting machine. Meanwhile never saw even half of the cardio equipment being used at once. Could definitely use the more efficiently by replacing some treadmills with lifting equipment. And you get weird looks from people when lifting heavy weights and breathing properly (which can be a little loud). read more

I have access to the PF by Rooney Ranch and I appreciate how the staff goes to every single machine and cardio equipment and hands wipes it down. I don't see the staff doing that at the N Oracle Rd PF location. And it would be sooo helpful now that it's getting hotter if they would install Fans upstairs where cardio machines are located. It's very warm upstairs and there's 1 fan up there that does not oscillate. :( read more

If you are a person who prefers a plethora of free weights, if you do not like rules or rule enforcement or if you are "one who grunts, drops weights or judges" (definition of a "lunk"@ planet fitness)...well, if this is you, then you probably won't like this place. They also will sound and light up the "lunk alarm" if the above is witnessed on the gym floor. List of planet fitness rules: No dropping weights. No grunting. No dead lifts. No power lifting. No head gear except baseball caps. No string tank tops. No work boots. No gym bags on floor. No gallon jugs in the gym. No overnight lockers. No jeans. No sandals. No cell phones (except permitted use in the lobby). So if the above rules aren't too restrictive for you, then this place may be just the place for you ;) There's an abundance of cardio equipment, various targeted strength training areas, and if you choose to be a black card member (more $$) then you can also get tanning and hydro-massage. I'm a fan of cardio and I'm not looking to enter in any body building competitions, so this gym works for me :) The gym is all about being "judgement free"...this is nice, but I do wish that they would consider a scale in the locker room more as a way to keep track of your personal fitness goals and less as yet another means of judgement. I'd like to see a scale in the locker room but they informed me that the scales would go against their judgement free policy...oh well :/ read more

Our family was newer to Arizona and had just moved to Marana - we found the Staff at the N. Oracle location friendly and the people at the club very welcoming. And for only $24 a month, you get to bring a visitor, you get the use of tanning beds, hydro massagers and red light therapy - you can't beat this price! Plus, unlike Anytime Fitness - Planet Fitness has actual front desk staff working at all hours!! The only reason that I did not give this location five stars is because they need more mirrors and more work out benches. Other than that, the location is clean, with a decent variety of equipment, cardio and free weight selection - again for only $24 a month!! read more

Following up on my review of June 24, when I reported their unsafe Covid conditions. They were shut down a few days later. Last week I came back to the gym, assured that they would be enforcing safety rules. They are not. On two visits I asked violators to mask up - 4 today. 3 refused. They have been reported to the County. I am disappointed - I really need this gym. But now, having been a member for 6 years, we are seeking refunds and will not be back. It's just a matter of time before the state or county shuts them down again. Sad and unnecessary. read more

DO NOT SIGN UP HERE. Very unsatisfactory, they didn't have the equipment as advertised, the amenities i paid extra for monthly we're often out of order or unavailable and the staff isn't helpful. They also make the cancellation process a nightmare. I requested to cancel before Covid came about and someone dropped the ball and I was left with the charges every month until I noticed the annual fee come out of my account and they refused to refund me the charges amounts. I will continue to make sure people know about this bad experience through Facebook and Google and that more people leave reviews as well so more people are aware of this scheme. read more

Drove past this one all the time on Oracle until I randomly found it while pulling into the shopping center, and being a member using the other Planet Fitness locations, this one is so much more convenient for me and tucked away in a shopping center with tons of parking. Mostly everything is contained in one room including all weights and crunch stuff, but they have a space for the Aqua Jets and massage chairs (which I pay an extra $10 to use because it's an AMAZING deal for those!). They are very handicap friendly with lockers designated for such in the locker rooms. Good gym and friendly staff! read more

Traveling and needed to get my workout in. Just have to say that this is one of the cleanest PF locations I have visited yet. The only issue I had was the weight equipment near the front was really jammed in there and hardly any room to move around and use. If it wasn't for the tightness of the area I'd give them 5 stars. I was working out and got a bit lightheaded from low sugar and asked if they had something with sugar and the manager gave me a Gatorade without even worrying about payment. Paid when I left but their kindness and understanding of my obvious predicament was appreciated. If in Tuscon area again I will definitely visit here. read more

Planet Fitness is a judgement free zone. Their NO GRUNT motto is emblazoned on the wall, and their mirrors in the workout area seem oddly few for the size of the place (you can't spend hours in front of the mirror flexing those muscles and looking at your ass from all angles, while a poor schlub is pinned underneath 50lbs of weights on the bench next to you). If someone slams their weights onto the ground, somebody is going to call you on it. As a result, people quietly grunt, sigh, moan, and sweat their way through their workouts. There's a massive amount of cardio equipment - elliptical, treadmill, bikes, etc. - all lined up and ready for action, like the misfit creatures in the final showdown fight scene of the "Lord of the Rings". There are also several sets of free weights, machines, a separate area for stretching and ab work, as well as a 30-minute circuit area, where some light goes off telling the poor, quietly grunting workout victim to change machines. A trainer is available by appointment and is available on an unlimited basis with the full membership. The full membership also offers several tanning rooms (a necessity in Tucson, because people haven't figured out that the virtually 365-day-a-year sun does the same job), a hydro-massage table, two massage chairs and some machine that's supposed to emit rays that dissolve stretch and scar marks. The guy giving me the tour proudly showed me the stretch marks on his arm that were dissolving, thanks to the miracle machine. (Remember, no judging.) *Cleaninless* is the key word at this gym. Many members meticulously clean off their equipment after sweating profusely all over it. I found employees cleaning off each machine in the middle of a weekday afternoon. The change rooms are also clean with minimal smell. There are several shower stalls and many lockers. Granted, I've only been here weekday afternoons, but the condition of this large gym is mightily impressive. A genuinely friendly gym filled with nice people sporting fading scars and stretch marks. read more

So glad that Planet Fitness has finally come to Tucson! I had been a member since I was in high school living in New Hampshire and as a Black Card member ($19.99/month) I was able to keep my Planet Fitness membership when I went to college in Orlando, FL. When I moved to Tucson, I checked out other gyms but nothing compared to Planet Fitness. At other gyms in town I found the equipment to be old, staff was unfriendly, and they did not offer 24/7 hours like all PF's do. The Oro Valley Planet Fitness is gorgeous with brand new equipment, a comfortable atmosphere, friendly, well-tranined staff who can answer questions about equipement, ect, clean locker rooms, free personal training sessions and additional amenities offered with the black card such as tanning, hydromassage and Red Light therapy. It is also very maintaned - you will always see a staff member walking around cleaning machines and there are cleaning stations throughout the gym encouraging members to clean their machines after using them. If you are a "no frills" type of gym goer and just want access to the fitness equipment they also offer a $10/month membership. I prefer the black card since I can also use the 2nd location that just opened up by the Tucson Mall (big purple and yellow building you can't miss). Living in Marana, the Oro Valley location is convenient on weekends, especially since it's right next to Starbucks, Target and Frys which I frequent every Saturday but Tucson Mall is closer to where I work so it's great being able to access both and being able to use the clubs in NH when I go home to visit. I think they have clubs in almost all 50 states now so you will likely find one wherever you travel. Excited to be a member of PF again! And, as Micah P. said - they have a Big Ass Fan - which definitely makes it worth checking out! read more

This place is legit. The people there are amazing the equipment is always up kept and clean. It's never too crowded. If you have the black membership you can bring unlimited guests! You can use the massage chairs and water jet bed! Variety of classes and personal meal plan guidance. One on one with a meal planner. Set goals and accomplish them...drinks half off with black membership. read more

Absolutely love this gym. There are so many cardio and weight machines you never have to wait. There literally are two floors of cardio machines just lined with them. You really can pick a place where you are alone and no one to bug you. The free wi-fi is a great bonus. Nice airconditioning. Clean locker rooms and bathrooms. I go here often and choose it over the five other gyms I've tried. read more

I upgraded to the black card membership have them show me how to use the tanning beds and the customer service was horrible it took me four times to get a tan because they kept forgetting to run it so I had to keep getting dressed going back to the counter they also had trouble signing up for the membership so between that and trying to get a 6 minute Minute tan they wasted over 2 hours of my time! And their excuse for their incompetence was that I should have went to a different employee! read more

I just started going back to the gym recently and I will say I really do like this gym. It's always clean and never busy. Even though sometimes when I come up to park and see the parking lot looks full I feel discouraged but when I go inside i am always surprised that there isn't that many people in the gym as I had thought. You have access to personal training which I LOVE. I was never looking for a personal trainer but definitely someone to just show me how the equipment works so I can strength train. You sign up for the classes online and show up and Liz will show you how it works and tech you reps! I really do like this gym but if I had to add one suggestion it would be to put fans in the locker room area of the bathroom. I like to sit in there after I'm drenched in sweat to cool off by myself but it sucks with no fan in there read more

Love this gym! It has a pretty decent variety of machines, nice bathrooms, and the staff is excellent! They know me by name, and they always make sure to say bye to everyone when they leave. Just went to check this place out yesterday after noticing it for the first time this week. Andy gave us our tour and we were very impressed with how it was completely informational and NOT a sales pitch. They sit you down at the very end and explain the two plans very thoroughly and leave you to decide.. that's it! This is EXACTLY what we were looking for in a gym and signed up as soon as we got home. We had to call back a couple times due to a system glitch they were having at the time and they were very friendly and helpful and called back when they said they would. Super impressed and excited to start working out after going so long without a gym due to the usual BS you have to go through. =D read more

Since I've only been here twice since signing up earlier this week i don't want to give 5 stars. So far i like it. I go pretty late and it's usually empty so i get free reign of the machines. Big difference from la fitness which was overcrowded and full of morons who think louder=stronger. My fiance and i enjoy working out here and work out at a good pace without having to rush to get to the next machine before someone else does. Yeah they're light on staff but you're not there to hang out with them, you're there to workout so get to it. Definitely look into this place. read more

I've been paying these guys $10 bucks a month since 2013 to basically use the gym once every few years. They opened in 2013 and at first they were very nice. Over time, I noticed the cleanliness of the locker rooms went downhill. Also, it drives me crazy that they have a stupid hot air dryer in the bathroom for drying hands but they go through 10s of rolls of papertowels each day because of the stupid machine wiping policy. Give me a roll of papertowels in the restroom and quite pretending you care about the environment. Anyway, those are minor issues. The big issue I have is that I finally got tired of the slow bleed on my bank account today and went in to cancel. The cancellation was easy enough, but the clerk didn't mention that all charges would cease. I was afraid they might try to charge me again after I cancel and only after prodding I find out that I will be charged an annual fee. I was told that I needed to cancel 10 days prior to billing. She told me I missed it by a day. I asked to speak to the manager and the assistant manager came over. He basically could care less and told me that it was company policy. I got the feeling he would rather be chatting with the other employees. I came back a few minutes later with my wife to cancel her membership and the club manager helped us. I talked to him about the annual fee charge and he also could care less and mentioned "company policy" nothing I can do. I did ask for someone higher than the club manager and the club employee I talked to told me to go on the website and email the corporate office. I know for a fact these are franchises and so I thought it was dishonest not to forward my complaint to the owner of the franchise and hide behind corporate. These guys are crooks! Stay far away unless you want to be ripped off! read more
