I recently nabbed the PF black card because it's cheaper to bring a friend with that price than it is to pay for the amount of day passes I've been using at my normal gym. So I've been trying out all the locations in the area and going to use a similar fair review format for each because every PF location seems VERY different. Location: Sterling south right off 28 near the airport. Very inconvenient service road access and weird wrap-around parking. However, inside this is a huge facility with lots of space to work out. 3/5 Cleanliness & Maintenance: Overall, clean, new and bright inside. There was a guy actively mopping the locker rooms and wiping stuff down, and I saw other staff proactively wiping equipment down. 5/5 Equipment Availability & Condition: Good range of weights and equipment, though some cables seem to be 2:1 ratio and kettlebells, EZ bars, etc., don't go up very high. They had at least 4 machines out of order including a couple leg machines that caused me loooong waits for leg day while teenagers looked at their phones on the machines forever. 2/5 Staff & Customer Service: Very friendly and helpful staff who seemed to be doing a lot around the gym other than just standing behind the desk. 5/5 Atmosphere & Crowd Levels: Moderately packed; mostly a diverse and late teens to mid-30s crowd; this location is so large the crowd size is not a huge issue though, if they'd fix the broken equipment. 3/5 Amenities: No available hydromassage beds or chairs between what was being used and several being out of order. The lady at the desk told me "we only have one working unit" in a way that seemed like that was just normal and they never maintain them? Feel like that part of the black card advertising is a scam because PF does not seem to maintain them at all. They had a coin-operated massage chair limited to 10 minutes, however, it doesn't even recline at this location. 1/5 read more

It's been over three weeks since the water fountains have been out of service, and nothing has been done. It shouldn't take this long to fix something so basic. There always seems to be equipment or amenities broken at this facility, and it reflects poorly on the ownership and management. Members deserve better upkeep and attention. read more

This gym was my go-to place since my Olympus Athletic Club membership transferred automatically. ll the pictures are from 2018 to 2020 (with over 20+ check-ins pre-pandemic), when everything was clean and equipment organized and well kept. I was going almost every weekday, definitely every week. Staff members were extremely friendly back then and always greeting as soon as walking in. I have been back a couple times since re-joining last year. Literally a couple times for personal reasons. The staff aren't as attentive as back then, and they were just chatting behind the counter. A select few might have greeted members. Although membership is only $10, it was interesting that a good number of the equipment were out of order: the stair climbers, treadmills, etc. I'm not sure if the pieces were on back order. Also, they moved the weight machines around in the front, so everything seems closer together. At this point, I'm just waiting for this contract to end in August and most likely won't rejoin for a while. I was hoping to just cancel at the beginning of this year, but apparently the contract they put me on requires a doctor's note to cancel....which needs to be handed to the front desk apparently. I finally pulled up contract then confirmed with Kai (spelling?), that I DIDN'T need to provde a doctor's note, but could have paid $58 and just cancelled months ago. This location is disappointing. The staff are not friendly, and the cleanliness is lacking--machines and benches appear dirty and not regularly wiped down. Another issue is member etiquette. During our visit, several people were using multiple machines at once and would not allow others to work in, saying they had multiple sets remaining. This meant my husband and I had to wait around just to access basic equipment. We visited around 9 a.m., which should be a less busy time, yet it was still difficult to use the equipment. I can only imagine how crowded and frustrating it must be later in the day. Save your money and join elsewhere. read more

This place is not an option anymore. PF make it impossible to update your billing info. My wallet was stolen and that was what connected me to Planet Fitness. Two weeks ago I was in trying to get my info updated. Fourth location, fourth different answer. The dude behind the counter was helpful in explaining what I needed to do. Long story short, I couldn't update my info that day. Ugh... I was there and decided on a workout. First thing I notice is the locker room is a freezer. It wasn't that cold outside yet...still really cold in the locker room. The big room with the machines is also cold, which shortened my workout because when you sweat and the room is cold, you get chilled. Ok, back to the freezer. I head for the showers and one in four showers is functional. WTF? The person in the only shower was getting finished so I was lucky. Saturday morning I have a few errands to run in the area of Sterling so I decide on a workout thinking it's been two weeks I have to imagine the showers have been fixed and the heat in the locker room surely has been taken care of as it's much colder outside today. I was wrong on both counts. The locker room is still a freezer and one in four showers is functional. They can't find someone in two weeks to fix the tile? Fix the heat in the locker room? I won't be back. i don't know who is in charge but it's obvious they're oblivious to some big problems. read more

Bonus points for it actually being open 24/7, something I can't say about our clubs back in SWVA. Treadmills are always in need of cleaning before use, like staff never touches them to clean. Same can be said for the standup #1 tanning bed. Obviously users aren't cleaning well either. Both mornings I went to this club there was a gentleman asleep in the lounge area in front of the tanning beds. This was in the 4am Thursday and 6 am Friday arrivals I had. This has been my gym for the past three years. It was perfect in the beginning, but now it has become over saturated and unfortunately with some creepy men. There are creepy men from all nationalities, but my experience has specifically been with foreign Indian men in the evenings. They will come in groups of 2-3, they will surround you and stare at you and have bad hygiene issues. I was doing squats one day, and this guy was FaceTiming his friend on his phone. The phone was on the ground positioned away from him, and angled towards me, so that he would have a nice view of my butt. I didn't even realize this was happening until two ladies near me pointed it out. Mind you, I work out in leggings and full sleeves, so it's not a clothing issue. Ashburn, VA. Location. No one enforces the rules. Many people use their phones five minutes at a time between sets on the weight machines. The employees stay mostly behind the desk. I mentioned my displeasure with long periods of phone use many times. Nothing was ever done about it. After several months of frustration, I started confronting the members independently. One member told the employees. They didn't do anything about that member using their phone. Instead came to me telling me what I was not going to do. I decided to cancel my membership. What is the use of having rules if you don't enforce them? Many members do not wipe down the machines after each use. The employees refused to give me the manager's name. read more

Since working from home and vaccinated in early Spring this year, I started joining hubby safely with mask on in this gym because of its convenient location to my hubby's work and our home. I used to go to the gym near my work in DC but for Covid--former gym was out of reach! So glad that my hubby has the membership plan (black card) that allows a plus one, which works because ordinarily I wouldn't come here on my own. This location is open 24 hours so it's convenient and usually come 3X a week during slow time! Place is large with plentiful of treadmills and ellipticals as well as universal machines and other focused and nautilus machines. For the price point, it has necessary machine that will give you a complete workout. I don't miss classes or yoga offered at other gyms, which I rarely used anyway, for the workout I get here gives me better toning. Besides I still do plenty of outdoor walks or use my own treadmill and elliptical at home for cardio. This gym also has several sanitizing stations too to self-clean the machines after each use or before and after like I do for added sanitation. Everyone seem to be responsibly courteous and compliant with sanitation so that's a plus! I've grown to like the routine I do sequentially on different machines, starting with arm workouts, then chest, then leg, and finally mid-section, which I need most to work on. I could tell the difference between coming here or simply walking my dog outside as I thought was enough under the circumstance! I used to only walk my dog about an hour each morning but adding gym routines have helped tone my body a bit. It's a big plus that this location is a stand alone and open 24 hours, and most important that it's clean and large so easy to social- distanced. Finally, it is indeed a no- nonsense gym, does not judge as their slogans say- no judgment here, which is to say, both staff and patrons seem to be very courteous and practice social distancing and making effort to clean each station after each use! As my schedule permits I will continue to come here as my hubby's plus one until it changes. Then, i'll join with my own membership that allows me flexibilities with time (to come on my own) as my work starts to go in office work. Until then, our black card membership works for both of us in the interim! I've grown to love the convenience this gym offers! read more

I will say that the manager here is a solid dude whenever I had an inquiry or issue to be solved. The staff aren't that bad either, they just seem really disinterested for most patrons' liking. As for the facility itself, garbage. Some of the machines reek of a weird, old oil stench. It doesn't help when certain groups also haven't...acculturated certain hygiene habits and roll in groups, which assaults the senses in a cacophony of smells. Yikes. There's also so much dust and hair around the bottom of the machines, I'm sure they have dust bunnies working the shifts here. The machines are kind of weathered, like the leather needs to be replaced. The rubbish in the parking lot is abominable. I feel like I have to play, "the floor is lava", when I'm out there. The atmosphere is probably the worst I've ever had to experience of many gyms I've been to. The caliber of people here is probably the reason for this. The weird energy from some patrons, you would think you kicked their dog, raised their farms, and stole their takis. And they're also too dense to realize anyone can speak and understand their language. When you gym on a budget, you get rabble. Off to X-cal. read more

Pros: new, clean locker rooms, very friendly staff, 24/7 and more treadmills than a crowd of marathon runners could ever imagine. Cons: no heavy dumbbells. Max is 75?!? I know that they don't want "lunks" (see discriminatory photo outlining the definition of a "lunk") but there are some strong geeks out there left hanging. There are also respectful, veterans of the US Military who like wearing a tank top and drinking out of a gallon jug. Additionally, a lot of the treadmills have error messages from time to time. Check out the pics from Claude Moore. Local rec center has heavy dumbbells. Something's wrong when a local parks and rec has heavier dumbbells and doesn't hang discriminatory signage up. Come on man, PF quit discriminating against heavy lifters. Some of your very owners are strength trainers (TB and MB). Please consider getting some heavier dumbbells and taking down the signage. read more

PRO TIP!: I called to cancel my membership because I moved and they told me that I had to send a letter in the mail (like this is the 1980's). So I 1. logged into my account on the Planet Fitness website (NOT the app this is important) and 2. changed my club location to where I currently reside in California... 3. I waited for the email notification for the club change. And 4. wouldn't you know that I could cancel it through the WEBSITE two minutes later. So if you'd like to cancel, I suggest changing your home gym location to a place in California where they don't force you to jump through hoops. Win. read more

Because I tend to travel for work I like having a black card membership T Planet Fitness. With their operating hours I have no excuse not to get a workout in regardless of the work schedule. This location was one of the larger Planet Fitness gyms I have been to. Being a member of various gym chains over the years this had probably one of the worst layouts I have ever seen. It almost felt some of the equipment was grouped by color and not by function. Maybe this is an older gym which could explain some of the worn out equipment. But with the current pandemic, regardless of your thoughts on if it's real or not, a gym should always be clean. This gym was a little on the dingy side. I thought it was the members who were lazy and didn't wipe down equipment. But what I noticed over my time there is a majority of paper towel dispensers are not working properly, broken or empty. I found myself having to walk across the gym just to get a paper towel and spray to wipe my machine down. Upstairs did have a large stretching area with a little equipment that was hardly used. Each Planet Fitness is individually owned and operated. I would highly recommend the owners bringing in a consultant to rearrange the gym and create a better flow. Invest in new sanitation equipment and create some sort of staff crossover to execute a better cleaning schedule. I was at the gym for a week every morning from 3:45 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Having worked in gyms early in my life, that should be the cleanest time of the gym. No member should have to walk into a dirty gym that early in the day. This gym has fantastic potential and with a lifetime fitness not too far away I encourage them to up their game and not just depend on getting memberships because of the price point. read more

Very spacious, lots of space upstairs that doesn't have a ton of equipment, but is nice for stretching. They have both hydro massage flatbeds and hydro massage chairs. Make sure you use your phone GPS to get there because most car GPS systems don't seem have the address show up. read more

I can't make a review on anything positive since the start it has not been a great first impression on useless management to say the least. No sugar coat here. I signed up once and somehow had TWO memberships with my SAME NAME. I was charged $49 to sign up and then an additional $10 monthly. I obviously just need one. I called PF and they said I need to go to the manager show them and I'll get a full refund, no problem. Wrong! Luis Vargas (Manager) said he can cancel my second one and I don't have to worry about the cancelation fee. Huh?? He said that's the best he can do and I can get a $10 credit for the following month. So how is that of any help?? He said it has happened to other ppl in the past and "it's human error". I was baffled at a incompetent manager. So I was STOLEN $59 and I should be grateful to not have to pay my cancelation fee for the second account on the FOURTH day!! Makes total sense. Based on this treatment it goes to show that either PF has no ethics or it's Luis Vargas as the Manager. I've spoken to HQ (Alexa) and have been told that these issues get resolved. I'm optimistic but not enthusiastic so will see. read more

This club is big and i have never seen any cleanliness issues. The real issue with the club is the customer service and especially its leadership. The club manager whose name i believe is Luis, a man with a pony tail, speaks to his customers in an unacceptable manner and he does it in front of his staff. I have a black card that i chose in order to bring in my girlfriend occasionally when we have time. I have been denied this service that i pay for, by the manager of this club. He stated that the only way for me to bring her in was to use the app because there was no way for him to add her as a guest in the system. I explained that the day before we went to the PF Closest to our jobs and they without hesitation took the 2 minutes required to add someone as a guest. His response was that he does it his way and i was welcomed to go back to the other club. When i signed up I was never told that members are required to bring their phone into the club to use their APP. I don't like to bring my phone in because ever since covid i believe that placing my phone down on surfaces could promote the spread of the virus. The leadership in this club is failing to understand how much customer service plays a part in customer retention. That experience which could have been resolved by taking 2 minutes to add my visitor, has left me with a bad taste in my mouth which i am sharing with friends, family and now within this interaction. read more

I went back to PF this weekend, as I was back in VA for my sister's concert. Stopped by the gym to double check my membership had been cancelled, as I had a letter sent two weeks ago. TURNS OUT IT NEVER WAS CANCELLED! So luckily I was there, or I would've been hit with another month of payment plus the ~$50 annual fee. The women at the front desk this time were nice, as they were new team members. However, when they asked who had answered the phone and had (rudely) given me this information, it seemed like they weren't surprised when I said Otis. I've been to various PF locations in both VA and MA. Out of all the locations i've been to (probably around 20) this is easily the best location i've been to, and i'm so lucky this is my home location! It is rather new, so everything is new and super clean. The temperature is comfortable, and there is high ceilings which I like because it doesn't feel cramped. I love the fact that there is an upstairs area, which is where I spend most my time. I am comfortable going up there, where it is quieter, to stretch. As a black card member, I have took advantage of tanning, the hydro massage chairs, and using multiple locations when I travel which is often. I have visited many different gyms and PF, as a female, is really the only gym I've ever felt comfortable at. I highly recommend checking this gym out! read more

I had good experience going with my partner, but now that they are shut down for the COVID-19 crisis, I've lost my 1 year up front payment and can't get in touch with anyone because each Planet Fitness is a franchise and my "home club" is not reachable online. I was physically assaulted at your club 22585 Fitness Court Sterling VA 20166 on august 4th 2021. I have informed the police and the case is under investigation. I will press charges against the individual who assaulted me. I have informed the police as we'll as the staff. Despite multiple phone calls emails to Mr. Luis, I have yet to get a response from him. I really like this planet fitness. It's two levels with plenty of space and equipment for everyone. Often times you have to stretch in free space at other PF locations, but not here. There is a clearly marked section strictly for stretching. The machines are brand new. The space is clean. I'm pleased. read more

I live in Arlington but commute to Herndon. I work out at many PF's and this is easily the best one. I drive past my job to come here and also take the toll road to do so rather than opting for the Fairfax location (which is also pretty nice). I like the LARGE array of cardio equipment. Far more than Alexandria (Seminary Road) and Landover locations. The showers have hot water in the morning and are CLEAN. I go in the very early morning (5 am) so I can't speak to the evening crowd but I love coming here even though I hold an LA Fitness membership and there's one in the area as well. read more

Overall the staff is very friendly. Otherwise, the machine are extremely dirty and dusty. I don't think they are ever cleaned. The paper towels are constantly out, they don't stay on top of refilling papers towels, sanitizing spray or towel paper in the bathrooms. I usually go between 2-4, and I never have to wait for anything. Lots of machines, good weight equipment. One thing I have noticed - someone is always cleaning! Today (Saturday mid-afternoon), they had half the treadmills tilted up (plenty left to use), and were cleaning the underside of the equipment and the floor under them. That's a complete cleaning! Lots of free classes, and one-on-one sessions you can sign up for (also free) with a trainer to design your own plan. I am a black card member, but I haven't tried the special features yet (hydro-massage, etc), so I can't comment on those. I bring my son sometimes, which is why I have the upgraded card (free guests!). I'm really happy with this experience- The Dranesville location is okay but the weight machines are a little worn. read more

My wife and I were told that we would not be billed for our monthly payments but we were. We also just paid our Annual fee this month. Planet fitness headquarters said that we were to contact the gym that we go to, but you are closed until further notice.
