I've had a membership to Planet Fitness for the last 3'ish years, post-Covid as my previous gym didn't survive the shutdown. I'll say the same here that I have told Planet Fitness when they send out their member survey emails. Of all the gyms out there you can join, Planet Fitness is definitely one of them. It's an OK spot to go and push heavy things against gravity, but mostly it's a cardio gym. They have a good variety of equipment but very limited in some aspects of what they provide. The main negative issue I have is the fact for someone who goes solo to the gym most of the time, the equipment I want to use is often occupied by people who want to spend more time sitting and looking at their phones than actually using the equipment, which creates a frustrating experience. And while I wait for people to be done with the one or two pieces of equipment I want to use, behind me will be a row of a dozen or more cardio machines with only one or two in use. It's a gym. It's a national brand. They're not hitting home runs, but they're not striking out either. Remember, three stars should be "average." Not failure. I will give props to the employees - always on the ball, and friendly. They do seem to have a bit of employee turnover every few months. read more

Planet Fitness can be between one and five stars depending on what you're looking for in a gym. For me, it's a solid 4 stars, because being a member here I actually go to the gym, and at other places I never felt comfortable enough there to make it a regular habit. I am not in the best shape, have difficulty counting reps, get bored easily, and at many gyms I feel so out of place. I never know what to do or where to go. Here I'm like, yes, I can do this. It feels like an awesome place for gym-newbies to get started. Highlights: My favorite part is the 30-minute workout machine area - there is a red/green light on the wall. Work out while it's green, rest while it's red. Next machine. No counting reps! Very ADHD-friendly. Many machines have a sticker showing how to use them and what muscles it works out. Some have a QR-code for a video about the machine. The women's restroom is generally clean. I have not seen the gym crowded at any of the times I go (generally early morning), so I don't feel rushed. Parking lot is easy and large. Staff has been friendly. Check-in is quick. There is a quieter room off to the side with yoga mats, exercise balls, and a different equipment for a change of pace or scenery. Mixed thoughts: The large row of TV's is directly in front of the treadmills. Great if you want to watch TV (and bring headphones that plug into the treadmill if you want to listen in addition to the closed captions), but not so great if you're hoping to avoid seeing all the awful stuff in the news since most are news channels. A couple are set to Food Network which I enjoy. The music can be pretty loud but I have headphones that mostly cancel it out if I want to listen to my own stuff. Could do better: There are very few stations with cleaning spray, and not everybody walks across the gym to get what they need to wipe down equipment when they are done - I assume because these are pretty inconvenient and there should be like three times as many. Also there is a strong moldy odor at the front entrance (not in the actual gym, just the entryway) which is a bit off-putting. If you are a regular gym-goer, can lift a lot of weight, and are into doing serious training - this is probably not going to be the right place. The machines don't do high weights, the selection is somewhat limited compared to more expensive gyms, and I strongly suspect these are not the high-end fancy equipment. However, if you are just beginning your fitness journey, this is a good place to start it. Build those habits, create routines. Planet Fitness is a wonderful health club. People seem serious about getting their workouts done and on a mission. Definitely no intimidation. Catalyst was more a Social playground with too many members concerned about taking pictures, even in the ladies room, which was ridiculous. Love PF, it's the real deal if you're serious about working out. Always so clean tool. Trevor, the Manager there, has been so professional and helpful from the first day of joining!! He goes above and beyond for both his employees and members. He always seems so cheerful and pleasant. Every time my husband and I go to workout, he is always there. I swear he lives there! LOL His staff is always available to help and answer questions too. Love the variety of machines and they have plenty of treadmills, not just a few like others. I have health issues and especially like the Total Body and Hydro Massage available for Black Card Members. So happy they have these options. Place is a dinosaur. Machines are old and haven't been updated in years. The recumbent bikes are awful. They knock and squeak. Been coming here 6 years and have yet to see any new equipment. Not sure what the mgt team is going to do. It's the owners responsibility. Every planet fitness in Henderson nv has upgraded their equipment. I'm sure you guys lease. Even the long bars grips are worn out. Spoke to the GM said cardio equipment will be swapped out mid December. read more

I opened my membership with Planet and Fitness Tonawanda to begin in Feb 2025. Planet and Fitness was having a $1 per month deal at the time. The plan I was signed up for was supposed to be $15 per month and $49 annual membership fee. But charges on my account stated otherwise. On Feb 3rd, my credit card was charged $1 for the month. On Feb 25th I was charged $35 for March. On March 6th, I was charged $69 for an annual fee. On March 25th I was charged $35 for April. I contacted Planet and Fitness multiple times regarding the charges, the agents on the phone told me different things. One agent told me I didn't have a bank account on my file, that's why they had to charge my credit card. By the way, the company prefers you have multiple payment methods. Another agent told me I have multiple payment methods and a bank account on my contract. But they couldn't collect the payment from my bank, so they charged me $20 in late payment and $5 in service fee in addition to the monthly charges. Planet and Fitness never contacted me regarding any billing account issue and none of the payments were late as the payments were collected prior to the month began. When I accessed the app, there was no itemization of what was the actual monthly charge and what was being charged as late fee or service fee. I requested for a copy of my membership contract be sent to me via email so I can review it further. Multiple agents couldn't figure out the simple task of emailing a customer her membership contract. One even lied and said it was sent to me, but it was not. I then had to go to my home gym to address this issue and they were able to give me a copy of the membership contract. When I asked the customer service agent why didn't someone from billing contact me if they thought I had a billing account issue. I also pointed out it clearly stated in the contract that Planet and Fitness will contact the customer regarding billing related topics if needed. The agent looked at me like I asked a stupid question and told me they couldn't bother to contact customers about billing accounts since they have so many customers. This basically indicated to me they don't care about customer service since they already have enough membership to make profit. Upon this response I requested my membership to be cancelled, which the agent did. I made the request to cancel my membership on March 25th 2025. Upon making the request, my access to my membership card through the app was erased and I no longer had access to the gym as of March 25th 2025. Even though I was charged for the month of April, I was not given access to use the gym till then, and I was not refunded the money for April either. The only reason Planet and Fitness was able to stay competitive in today's market is definitely not due to their customer service but because their price seems slightly lower in comparison to other gyms. But that's a trick to entice the customers to open membership and they make for those few dollars with their hidden charges. The Planet and Fitness as a company lack proper personnel or training to handle their growing business. They really don't care about providing good service to their existing members as long as they are gaining new members and making profit because that's the bottom line for them. My advice is to pay a few dollars more if you have to go to a better gym where people are equipped to handle their business and customer service, because in the long run you will save money by not being a member of Planet and Fitness. read more

If you're going to join a gym, don't just walk into a gym. Planet properly. I'm not a fan of Planet Fitness. This was about the Third location that I've ever worked out at and I got a similar impression here as I did at others in other parts of the country, even though this particular one was a little bit nicer and looks brand new. The people working here were nice. The policies on the other hand - which they did explain having looked at my physique, and from talking to them these policies are arbitrary, promote jealousy/competitiveness, and are really really discriminatory. I know that they don't actually sound the alarm every time someone with a good body is lifting really heavy and making some noises (which by the way is totally natural if your lifting weights). And the water? Are you kidding me? Don't go around with gallon jugs of water? What? Do they know how poisoned the Buffalo filtered tap water is? Why do you think this area has 10 times as many thyroid issues as the national average? I know women who lift heavy and drink tons of water during their workouts, and the water is one of the things I have the most problem with along with the noises - because I don't really make noises but who can help it? I mean do they go out and tell tennis players that they're not allowed to make noises during their rallies? Water is extremely healthy and you're supposed to be drinking water and to tell people that they can't have big containers of water because it puts off the people who aren't in shape or aren't a serious is absolutely ridiculous. OK they don't enforce it, but it's one of the things that can supposedly trigger the "Lunk Alarm." You're basically labelling people, singling them out, dividing them. Go **** yourselves. Seriously. As Urban Dictionary explains - "Something made up by the insecure people who run Planet Fitness (Planet Fatness) gyms. They set it off when anyone remotely dedicated to training is in the area. They claim to be a "judgement-free" gym, yet ironically they won't even let those who they deem "lunks" into their facility. The people don't want to "be intimidated" by fit gym goers, yet the only thing intimidating them is their own insecurities." They also say they can set off the alarm if you're on your cellphone. More from UD: "Planet Fitness's 110dB deafening tornado siren. An employee sets it off when they hear weights drop or someone tattles on another member for using a cell phone in the gym area. The offender is not singled out (and may not even know it's sounding for them). Other innocent members get blasted with the ear piercing siren, which is above the OSHA sound level limits. The only effect of the Lunk Alarm is to damage members' ears (the employees at the trigger switch are far away from the sound)." So yes I have massive ethical problems with the company itself. And the way they do things. They also don't even have as much in the way of high-end weight lifting stuff as my YMCA that I ended up joining does. And the Y is not exactly a pro gym, but PF makes it look like one. PF, more like PoF! Benefits of PF: They're a lot cheaper and they're 24 hours which are things I really really like - but I can't work out in a place where they discriminate. The YMCA are Christians so they have every excuse to be very discriminatory (it's in the blood!) and yet it's not even close compared to Planet Fitness. And watch out for the fake reviews. I'm already a member at Terries on Hertel but Planet Fitness is across the street from my day job making it easy to head over on my lunch break. I signed up on December 31 and decided to go with the black card membership for all the perks. You get to use any location (they even have ones in Canada near my parents house!), have use of stand up and lie down tanning beds, use of deep massage chairs, use of hydromassage chairs, and use of this ultimate body enhancing read light/vibrating beauty machine - for 23.05 with tax per month. When it came down to it, I paid $250 for a year at terries (which I still love for different reasons) while this membership comes to $275 + the annual fee but I get all the perks mentioned above. So far I've gone to the planet fitness on my lunch breaks, at 5 pm, and on a Saturday - and honestly for a "busy" gym it's not that bad. They have a ton of cardio machines, almost two of every exercise machines, three of the four stack cable machines, a separate section for a full body 30 minute workout, free weights, another section with ropes, TRX and even monkey bars. I mean, what's not to like. Staff are friendly, place is clean, locker rooms are nice. Many people are consistent about cleaning the machines off after they use them which is appreciated. Bonus: I got to cancel my zoomtan - which is home to claustrophobic tanning cages that get so hot you can't stand it. The ones here you can tan for 9 mins max but they are so much nicer and feel like a vacation. I have 0 complaints (which is rare). read more

The motto for Planet Fitness should be "It gets the job done." I am not the working out type and would never, realistically, go to a gym if it wasn't for my desire to look decent in my favorite outfits. I always hit those periods throughout the year when I don't work out for months and eat chicken wings and then workout 3-4 times a week and meal prep. The fitness period of the year is just before summer generally. I have to admit, Planet Fitness really does get the job done. It is inexpensive ($10) and has what I like. I just don't like working out enough to go to classes or experiment with literally dozens of machines. So Planet is more than enough. I switched from the Maple location after that location underwent an upgrade in terms of equipment. Unfortunately, they upgraded so much equipment that the location also got rid of all wall space and an area to freely workout with the big blow up balls and mats. I have been doing the same workout for three years and the only two things I need include an area with a wall and an elliptical. The Maple location just was not for me. Also, it's really just packed with very fit students. So I drove a few miles down to the Sheridan location. They have an entire stretching room with the balls and mats. It is nice and secluded from the other main area which is what I like. For someone who does not need a ton in terms of a gym, this does so well. Everything is very clean and nice. I don't feel like everyone in a 50-foot radius can see how incorrectly I am working out. This is what I like. Separate spaces with simple workout equipment. The Sheridan location is really, the perfect gym for me. No frills. Just workout and leave. read more

I love this gym it is very big and it has a lot of machine that can be use on your work outs. It is very clean and easy to keep clean. I love the people that work here they are very friendly. I really believe that you can't get better service for the $ 20.00 dollars membership. It is amazing how there is the option for you to work on your body to go tanning and get nice massages on the hydro beds or chairs all for the same price. There is also a red light bed that helps with cellulite and beauty it is incredible. It doesn't really end there for those who don't know much about exercising, there is a trainer which would help you and show you how things are done and what you should do to get to the things you are trying to achieve. It is also awesome how they are a free judgment zone type of gym. They have pizza on the first Monday of the month. They do activities to keep members happy and interested and they are always working hard to get those new members too. There is love for everyone, members and non members. How you ask? They were allowing everyone to come for hydro massages for a week. I really love this gym and I really encourage people to try it out if any of those things interest you. read more
