Amy has planned our vacations for several years now. Peru, Cambodia, Thailand, Mexico, New Zealand, Galapagos, France. Excellent every time.

Amy is awesome! We came to know of her through Yelp. We visited some parts of Europe last summer. After about 5-6 iterations on the itinerary, we finalized days to spend in four major cities. We had specified 3-star motels for manageable costs. My wife was slightly disappointed with the room sizes, at all places except one. Amy did warn me (softly) about 3-star room sizes but didn't realize that rooms can be that small. The hotel locations were also in central hub of all places, except one. In the case of the exception, our stay was right next to a landmark however ~15min train ride from the hub. Public transportation was descent otherwise we would've had to rent a car. Arrangement was superb. No glitches. Had private taxi (fancy Mercedes cars) rides arranged everywhere to pick and drop us off at train stations or airports. At one destination, our driver was waiting on the platform (where the train was arriving) holding a piece of paper with our names on it. The package price (minus the taxi fare) was slightly better than what I found by researching the trip cost myself, however not that much. But, me not having to worry about who's going to pick us up at 4:45am to drop us at the airport (where drivers don't speak English), it was a great bargain. I will approach Amy again and would highly recommend her. read more

During my wedding planning, I didn't have time to plan our honeymoon to Argentina. And I'm the type of person who plans everything. I trusted Amy in all the planning logistics and it worked out smoothly. She was prompt in answering my questions and concerns. Everything worked out beautifully and it was the most stress free vacation I have been on. Amy did a lot of research on finding us the small boutique hotels in Mendoza and Buenos Aires as well as fun things to do. You let her know what type of vacation you want (adventure, relax, scenic, etc) and she customize it to your needs. And she does go out of her way to find you great rates. read more

I'm a little late to write this review... In January of 2009, I decided I wanted to take my first ever international trip. I knew I really wanted to go to London and Paris. I tried looking for good air and hotel rates, but it only took 3 days to realize I had no clue what I was doing. A friend suggested I use a travel agent, so I came to yelp and saw a lot of good reviews for planet hoppers. I called and left a message around 7 or 8 pm and not 10 mins later, Amy called me back. She was very easy to work with and even shared my enthusiasm of traveling for the first time. I told her the amount I wanted to spend and she found me a great package deal that included London and Paris, and also Rome. About 2 weeks before departure (August 2009), she found a cheaper flight and ended up saving me a couple hundred dollars with no additional fee! She was very good at communicating. As a first-time traveler, I had many questions and she always made herself available to answer them. She even met up with me to personally deliver my tickets and itineraries versus just sending them through the mail. Needless to say, I had a blast overseas. I would not recommend the touring company she set me up with, but I can see why she thought it would be good idea for a first time traveler. We just got back from a trip to Italy and Germany that Amy at Planet Hoppers helped us with and we wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for help arranging a vacation. We weren't sure exactly where we wanted to go and she gave us some much appreciated input that helped us finalize our itinerary. Long overdue review. Amy was extremely helpful with our first trip to Europe. We chose Paris, Rome, Venice, Florence and Prague. Everything went smoothly with the timing, transportation and hotel, though we had minor change: one of our flights got cancelled, thus resulted in one night in Milan. I appreciate Amy picking all the hotels in extremely convenient locations, with great service and affordable pricing; and she made sure that our flights came in at a good time so we don't lose out a whole day in the airport. This is my first review & very very long-over due. In Oct 2013, my bf and I decided that we wanted to go to Brazil. And knock one of my bucket list down by going to Carnaval (Rio de janeiro). Time was ticking (Feb 2014) and it was too stressful for us to research/plan our own trip that we decided on a travel agent. We never used one before & did tons of research on yelp. We found planet hoppers and liked their reviews. We got in touch with Amy and since she had experienced booking trips to Brazil and she has been to Carnaval she was the perfect travel agent for our needs. I don't like big tour groups because it has a big target on you as a tourist. Amy booked us with a personal tour guide in Argentina & one in Brazil. We learned a lot from them, went to non-tourist aires, ate food/restaurants that they eat/locals not "Touristy" places. 6 stars for them! We had a great time in Argentina (will go back) and in Brazil (language barrier/corrupt/probably won't go back). And we got ENGAGED at the beautiful Iguazu falls (breathtaking, Niagara Falls is nothing compared to Iguazu). We are currently planning our honeymoon in Italy & Greece with Amy!!! I would highly recommend Amy to anyone who is looking for a good travel agent. She was extremely helpful in making hotel and rail reservations for our trip to Central Europe in September. When the rail tickets were ready to be issued, she even hand delivered them to me at my office, along with a care package! I was blown away by the personal touch that Amy puts into her service. During the last leg of our trip, we had to check out of the hotel a day earlier due to a family emergency. Amy tried to get a refund on our behalf but was not successful; I let her know that I appreciated her efforts but understood that the payment was non-refundable. Imagine my surprise a couple of weeks later when Amy emailed me to let me know that I was getting a refund after all! Amy Tan at Planet Hoppers is a terrific, energetic agent. She asked us a few guiding questions about a trip we wanted to take to Norway and Stockholm. She quickly presented us with great options and then took care of all the hassles. The only time that we missed a detail her actions revealed a very gracious and decent character. Amy had accidentally reserved a hotel in Stockholm for three instead of four nights. She caught the error after it was too late to extend the original reservation. Amy got us the extra night as a separate reservation, but, because of the possible inconvenience that might result, she paid for the entire room and board for that part of our stay. Pretty amazing! My wife and I were planning a trip to the low countries for 2 weeks. We tried to do our research but were kind of struggling with trying to get all the pieces of the plans together. We always thought there were too many unknowns. We even were kind of ending up with some extra bit of time on our hands. So, we looked up for good travel agents on yelp. After looking at the reviews we decided to try out Planel Hoppers. This was the first time we were taking help from a travel agency. Amy and Planet Hoppers lived up to every expectation we had from a good travel agent. We had some specific requirements as far as accommodations were concerned and lot of questions and concerns over things to cover and places to visit for the time we had on our hands. Amy worked out a few options along with her recommendations and provided a clear picture on the pro's and con's of each. We recollect having many email and phone discussions with her. She was always prompt and responsive. She took care of every bit of detail before and during the trips, always being responsive to every question and request that we placed on her. She did what a great travel agent would do and are very happy to have engaged her for our travel plans. Amy helped us to plan a family trip to Europe with multiple destinations and complex travel arrangements. We did most of our communication online and she was great with forwarding suggestions and providing links to websites, etc. She was very available to research different options for us and help find plane tickets, tour guides, and hotels, and generally was a joy to work with. When she made a mistake under-quoting airfare costs to us and we purchased those tickets, her agency absorbed the additional cost of the tickets, which I thought speaks to her high level of professionalism. My only critique is that she seems not to have personal experience traveling with children, so sometimes her advice was slightly more geared towards adult travelers. This was not a problem in the end, but it took a bit of extra double-checking and working with other parents to find the best kid-friendly options at our destinations. read more

This was my first time working with a travel agent and it was definitely a positive experience. Amy was not only friendly and helpful, but she was prompt in responding to emails during planning and while abroad. It was amazing to me how knowledgeable she was of each of the places I was hoping to travel and how well versed a traveler she is. We booked all flights, rental car, and some hotels for our 2015 trip to Spain and Sicily through Amy. I usually book my own travel, but I was too busy. So for the first time ever I used a travel agent and I would use Planet Hoppers again. Amy is very professional and thinks of everything. Next time I will take her advice and plan other events, like a Tapas tour in Barcelona, which she had suggested. We tried adding it after arriving in Barcelona and they were booked. I used Planet Hoppers last year to book transportation and hotels for a vacation going from San Francisco to New York to London to Paris and back home to SF. I wanted a high-end trip and gave Amy my price range as well as descriptions of what I was looking for in airlines and hotels. There was some delay in getting the initial itinerary, but we quickly got it refined and booked. In the end I got more than I expected for my money -- I was surprised that she was able to stretch my budget into business class on every flight, a chauffeured town car for every change of venue, and four and five star hotels everywhere we went. I am very likely to use Planet Hoppers again in the future, especially for high-end bookings. read more

Such glowing reviews but here is another one. You can say I am seasoned traveler. I travel often with friends, boyfriend, families, etc. I go to new places, familiar places, I can rough it a bit and I can relax at resort. I don't like using travel agency. I avoid at all cost. That has become conflict when I travel with parents. But I talked to Amy about my Latin America trip with friends, and it was clear that I would gain a lot of insight and save a lot of money and time from her itinerary. I went paragliding at rio, cheered at soccer game in arena in Argentina, zip lined in paraty (beach town), danced tango, ate best beef ever, hit a club playing Brazilian music, rode cable car to best bay view in the world, and got soaked in boat ride through Iguasu Falls. I found Amy from yelp. First I didn't know where to go for my honeymoon. I gave Amy two destinations, and she explains to me the difference between both destination, so that I can choose. And I chose New Zealand. Amy was patience, knowledgeable, and very helpful throughout the whole process. Amy also helped me found a local tour guide for my trip. But when I found out the flight time is 19 hours, I was hesitate and decided not to take the trip. Amy didn't give me any pressure to make decision. She waits patiently for me to make up my mind. I booked a two week trip to Egypt (I was in the same tour group as some of the other reviewers) this past fall, my first "real" international trip in several years. Amy (the person behind "Planet Hoppers") was absolutely wonderful as a travel agent. Of course she's thorough, personable and organized - but I think it's reasonable to expect that from any and every decent travel agent. What made her stand out: 1) She was pro-active in anticipating potential problems, and sending reminder e-mails about things that needed to be done. Many of us with busy lives too easily overlook or forget critical steps that need to be done in advance of a trip, and Amy was good about sending multiple reminder e-mails to prod me into getting around to taking care of paperwork and stuff. 2) Fostering a sense of community amongst the travellers. By encouraging everyone to invite friends and friends of friends, we were able to have our own closed tour group, and she encouraged us travellers to contact each other ahead of time (if anything, so that we could pool travel gear/toiletries). Even though we didn't know each other at the beginning, it really helped us bond and develop friendships that have persisted long after the trip itself. 3) Taking individual requests into consideration. Even after the initial parameters of the trip were set, I asked about the feasibility of joining the tour group one day late since I was a groomsman in a wedding immediately before the trip. She looked into it, discovered that airfares would be $300 cheaper for everyone if we moved the trip ahead one day, contacted all of the other travellers, got a consensus agreement, and made it happen. So...I got to do the wedding without missing anything and everyone saved $300. Thanks! read more

Normally I always did my travel arrangements through the Internet and search for the best deals. I use to use a travel agent years ago prior to the Internet boom. Well my wedding was coming up and my new husband and I wanted to travel to Thailand for our honeymoon. Being is we never been over seas we didn't know where to go, where to stay, and what to do when we got there. I could of sat in front of the computer and did hours of research, but if anyone has planned a wedding before you never have time to sit in front of a computer and do that. So, our friend told us about AMY at Planet Hoppers and boy are we happy we went with her. She was very proactive, very detailed, very professional, very hands on, and super knowledgeable about the places we were inquiring about. We just returned from our third trip using Amy at Planet Hoppers as our agent. After an amazing trip to Europe five years ago and another one to Australia two years ago, we were back in Europe for three weeks this summer (Spain, Portugal, Croatia). I can't say enough great things about Amy's knowledge and customer service. We simply emailed her with our destination ideas, gave her a budget, and she wrote back with an itinerary. It breaks down every hotel, plane, train, tours, whatever. You can click on her links and decide if you like all the spots or want to make changes, but we never seem to need to change anything. She thinks of every detail that matches our personality, even down to the distance from the hotel to the airport or train station to make sure that we can check out of our hotel and still have plenty of time for a leisurely travel day. She used our credit card authorization and booked everything, then sent us the travel documents electronically. Over the course of the trip, we emailed her a couple times with thoughts or ideas, and she always responded right away. I can't imagine traveling any other way. No struggling on the phone in languages difficult for me. No searching endlessly through reviews to pick hotels. (Every hotel she has picked for us over the course of many weeks of traveling has been great!) No researching distances to trains or bus stations or anything difficult. We could focus on eating and sight-seeing the way that travel is supposed to happen. read more

With great online web tools these days I didn't think a travel agency could help much with my travel plans, but I was so wrong! In addition to being more cost-competitive than self-booking for our specific hotel package and travel dates, she really pulled through when our flight from SFO got totally cancelled and we were put on a different and much longer flight path. All of our careful layover and transfer planning went out the window and we were basically screwed since we lost our 1 night transfer hotel reservation and everything was booked up. Amy happened to check up on us while we were scrambling and I explained to her the situation. While we were in the air and transferring between airports with limited phone/net access, she was on the ground working the logistics of finding another layover hotel room and notifying the various parties of our new itinerary. When we arrived in Male at night (when the sea planes to our final resort destination do not operate), we had a place to stay and all the transfer arrangements were re-booked. Do not underestimate the advantages of working with an experienced travel agent like Amy, especially if your destination is new and far from home! She had great insight you wouldn't normally think about unless you did this for a living. Thanks to Amy, our collateral damage as a result of our significant trip delay was minimal and we got to enjoy the rest of our amazing honeymoon in the Maldives. We have been working with Amy for the past couple of years. She's amazing. All the trips that she arranged for us were beyond our expectations. We would never have done these without her. This past winter holiday she suggested that we do a river cruise to tour around southeast Asia. We never did cruise and didn't think this would work for us. We wanted more activities than what we thought the cruise would offer. But she patiently worked with us and got us to take a Scenic river cruise with our 3-generation family from 8 year old to 79 year old in vietnam and cambodia. The river cruise was simply amazing! Not only that. She knows that we wanted to travel while caring for the world in some ways. So the cruise line she picked was "green" cruiseline and the cruise company does a lot of great work to support local communities. That made us feel good to be part of it. We had a fantastic time!
