Another long overdue review... I have traveled overseas many times and have always planned trips my self. I ended up using Amy for a two week trip to Eastern Europe and then to Thailand/Hong Kong the following year. She did an excellent job planning things and getting the right itinerary. We hired Amy to plan our honeymoon to Bali and she booked a textbook Bali honeymoon for us. She came up with a quality itinerary that had us staying at 3 different locations so we can could get a good feel of the entire island. The 3 of us planned out the perfect amount of scheduled activities during the first half of the trip, and then relaxed unplanned leisure time during the 2nd half. Amy helped my daughter and I plan a trip to Europe. I normally make my own travel plans using online resources. However, this was a longer trip covering six cities and it was more than I could handle on my own. Our other option was to use a packaged tour which has pluses and minuses. I found Planet Hoppers through Yelp and decided to contact Amy after reading the great reviews. She responded immediately, gathered input from me and came up with a proposed itinerary within a day. We made some small changes and she went to work researching flights and hotels. In another day, she had all the transportation and lodging worked out. My Review I usually plan our trips and end up with a good trip, but this time I had to reach out to a travel agent. This was our first big and expensive trip as a couple, usually when we travel, I do all the research and booking and everything, but then again that is within the States. Back in October or November I tried to start doing my research for our Honeymoon, but having to do it while planning and taking care of our wedding in December was very difficult and stressful. I decided to browse for a travel agent/agency and came across Planet Hoppers. I sent in my inquiry through their website and within 24 hrs I received an email. What I've noticed on the email was Amy asking me if I was ready for the weather in Europe, and that is when I knew she has the knowledge. I then emailed back and received a phone call from her. When I spoke to her, she sounded so enthusiastic, excited, and eager to help me out. I did not know about Paris or London or Rome, I knew about the Eiffel Tower and The Colosseum but other than that I didn't know where and what to visit. I told her what we were thinking to do and what our interests were. We did have a tight budget, and finding out her fee was $600 kind of made us think twice about it, but we are glad we took a risk and allowed her to guide us. I'm far from a globetrotter, but I've been to a fair amount of countries. All of these trips were planned either by myself or with some friends through research and Google Maps. For the most part, they all went off smoothly. Because of this, I've never considered using a travel agency. However, a medical diagnosis prompted me to want to take a last minute trip. I had a project which turned out to be massively more complicated with more design decisions than I would've liked to make 3 weeks before the day I wanted to leave. I just got back from my second vacation organized and managed by Amy. Last time it was a two week trip encompassing Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The planning was top notch. I did not want to drag my partner through budget hotels and have a low-class experience, but neither did I want to stay only in five star resorts and not get to experience the local culture. Amy provided the perfect balance. She had an excellent knowledge of each of these countries and gave us exactly what we were looking for. The value was also great. Considering how much we got out of it, the price was quite reasonable. In my most recent trip, I visited France and Italy. The trip was again two-week long and this time the goal was to see the art and finer elements of the culture. Being more interested in Italy, I spent 10 days there and 4 in France. In Italy, my itinerary started in Milan and then I went to Venice and Rome. Amy asked specific questions of what I wanted to see and mapped every step of the journey accordingly. I loved Hotel Danieli in Venice and Hotel Cavalieri in Rome. Both were very near what I wanted to see and being able to walk to what I wanted to visit made the experience far more engaging. Anyone can put you up in a five star, very luxurious hotel, but this sort of hands-on management of the entire trip, tailored to fit my specific needs is not something that is easy to come by. In France, Amy suggested that I stay only in Paris. Although I wanted to visit at least one more city, Amy suggested that I stay only in Paris and really soak up the city. Excellent idea! She actually got me a personal driver so I could see more than would have been possible walking around. She also anticipated that I'd be tired after all the walking in Italy. As a result, Paris was a soothing and energizing experience and I came back to the States, ready to rock and roll. As soon as I got into the car, the personal driver knew what I wanted to see, since he had been coached by Amy. Awesome experience really. Like many other reviewers, this was a trip of firsts - first time using a travel agent, and first time visiting our selected destination (Japan, and our first trip to Asia at all). I've planned a bunch of vacations and know how to ensure we have a good time, but it takes a ton of work, so I was hoping for the same great vacation without all that planning. Amy and Planet Hoppers delivered. She found us a great place to stay when there was nothing obvious on the travel sites (I had looked briefly before I contacted her) - we like apartment-style accommodations where we can do our own cooking, and those aren't common where we were staying. She suggested a number of fun activities, which we loved. We just came back from a successful 3 week trip to Europe and Planet Hoppers went above and beyond in helping us plan and book our trip. Amy's VERY helpful, responsive, knowledgeable, and SAVES YOU MONEY (how many agents do that?)! I usually plan my own trips and am very picky, almost OCD-like when it comes to planning trips, but since this trip included visits to multiple cities in the UK, France, and Italy, I didn't have time to do all that research. So after reading the great Yelp reviews, I contacted Amy.. I loved her right from the start! Amy communicated primarily through email (which is great for me because of work) and she always responded to us on the same day. In total, I probably sent her about 100000000 emails and a gazillion questions before we went on our trip. She read and answered each one promptly and always seemed happy to help, even after we paid. She helped us book our flights, hotels, trains, transfers, tour tickets, and travel insurance. She was able to meet all of my requests within our budget, and once we got to Europe, the hotels exceeded my expectations in quality and location so I knew she got us good deals. We ran into a small hiccup during our trip [not Amy's fault]: one of our hotels' booking system crashed so they had to move us to another hotel of the same class for one night. It turned out fine and the hotel paid for our move, but I informed Amy as an FYI when we returned from our trip. She immediately investigated and got us some money back for that night! She is really dedicated and shows great care for her client's satisfaction. My family and I went on a trip of a lifetime to Italy and we could not have done it without Amy. Planet Hoppers and Amy Tan is "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" I've done four vacations under Ms. Tan's suggestion and guidance: Washington D.C., Puerto Vallarta, Santa Barbara, and Peru. Sometimes, all I needed was a hotel and at other times, I went with a tour. I found Ms. Tan to be a good listener and made some valuable suggestions based on our conversations. For example, for my D.C. trip, I told Ms. Tan that I didn't mind being further away from the Mall and wanted a hotel near restaurants without being too noisy. She made a great suggestion for a hotel inbetween two prominent neighborhoods and within walking distance of a subway entrance. It was a boutique, yet, affordable hotel. Very cute. My boyfriend and I were delighted and couldn't be happier. For my Peru trip, I wanted to go with 12 friends but didn't want the hassle of planning the trip and knocking on my drunk friend's hotel door reminding them of a 9am tour. At the same time, I told Ms. Tan how much I LOATHED tour groups without flexibility and freedom. Ms. Tan suggested a wonderful tour company she experienced and even negotiated with the company for a PRIVATE trip for just our group when usually they book for a group of 20. This made for an amazing, memorable vacation because we didn't get pushed into a mandatory diamond factory tour and yet, our guide was great at taking care of us in Peru. I didn't know tour groups like this existed but this memorable vacation happened because of Ms. Tan's experience and advice. I think she is excellent at her work because Ms. Tan, well traveled herself, knows what experiences are worth the time, money, and energy and what is worth skipping. She is quick, dependable, responsive, and I get the feeling that she cares a great deal about her customers and is available at any time. Pei-Leeng is AMAZING!!! I am the hardest to please person. When it comes to dining, Gary Danko's has been the cut off of impressive dining; when it comes to hotels, I generally sway toward the Four Seasons; and in terms of clothes, nothing less than Nordstrom's will do. So, SUPER HARD TO PLEASE. However, Pei-Leeng totally came through. She was patient and after course correcting 31 times (course correction as a result of my changing desires), we set up 3 tours for my trip to Cancun. The biggest thing I cared about was swimming in a cenote, and she made my dream come true the first day (it was the most authentic, blue cenote you have seen in your life)! I was also worried about hurricane season and she responded within a few hours sharing that the tour companies confirmed that if we couldn't go on a tour that they would refund our money. Well, we were unable to go on one tour, and they refunded our money in full -- all thanks to Pei-Leeng! So all in all, the service was: -Within budget -Exactly what I asked for -Service was excellent (both for tours and Pei-Leeng) -Very knowledgeable. What impressed me was that I received an email at night to help get the best deals possible (Who works past 5? lol) Also, we had a changed flight while we were in Bolivia and she was on top of that too by emailing us and letting us know of the time change.
