We just completed a major solar installation on our Palm Springs home -- 47 panels, 2 Tesla Powerwall batteries, and a full electrical panel upgrade. After going through the entire process with PlanetSolar, I completely understand how they've built their business entirely on referrals with zero advertising. From start to finish, their execution was flawless. The sales process was relaxed and pressure-free, backed by a detailed proposal with clear projections on energy costs and savings. They showed up when they said they would, every time. The work itself was exceptionally clean and professional -- including the painting and patching of areas that needed to be modified, which isn't always a given with contractors. On a job this size, a few minor issues cropped up, as is pretty typical. What impressed us was how quickly and painlessly they handled each one -- no runaround, no hassle. Thank you Planet Solar Team! We are extrmely satisfied with the level of professionalism and expertise of the Planet Solar Team. The entire process was smooth, from dealing with the sales representative to the installation team and then the final walk. We are in the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) which has considerably lower rates than SCE but Planet Solar told us the rates were going to increase and they were spot on. Our savings are now greater than originally projected in the proposal and will continue to save us even more money as IID rates increase in the future. While Planet Solar recommended we install batteries for energy storage, we declined. Now we wish we had listened to them because IID only allows installation of a system which produces no more than 100% of your previous 12 months kWh. In addition, while the gross kWh rate calculates to $0.20/kWh today, you will only receive $0.068/kWh for any over production so it would have been smart to install the battery (or batteries) to store our excess kWh production and then use it ourselves at night when the solar is not producing. Planet Solar told us and recommended this and we should have listened. Overall, we used to pay $370/month on average and now our monthly IID bill is $14 in winter months to $120 in the summer months. We highly recommend Planet Solar as the prices are extremely competetive, the equipment is from the top rated manufacturers, the warranty is one of the best we found and we were even given 5 years of solar panel cleaning (2 times per year)! read more

After purchasing a 1950s home in Palm Desert with little-to-no roof insulation and original, single-pane windows, I found myself running my air conditioning unit endlessly during the thick of summer. My Tesla Power Wall failed to engage during a recent power evening power outage. Planet Solar installed my solar system 7 years ago, and my Power Wall is 5 years old. They responded immediately, and fixed the problem the next day. It was a software glitch, and not related to workmanship. This was the first issue I ever encountered with the system. They were extremely courteous, and helpful - explaining how to use the Tesla app to see if the battery was operating correctly. I can't say enough about their professionalism. Horrible experience so far. Steve was great until he received my deposit. Now we have paid more than half to order parts. Instal is pending based on backordered parts but there is no update and was promised to be complete by end of year. They don't respond to emails until you continue to email and beg for a response. It has been two years since Planet Solar installed my solar panels. The experience started positively with my salesperson, Jill. She was very patient. I was new to solar and got six bids so it took a lot of time, many questions, and numerous visits before I decided on Planet Solar. I like that they are not dependent on one manufacturer. They handled the dealings with my condo association seamlessly. Installation was smooth. A year and a half later, I got a warning email from them to watch out that SCE would be trying to change my rate plan-and that would cost me $$! Thanks for the heads up! Let me qualify the 2 stars by noting that the pricing and overall functionality of the system installed by Planet Solar is good. However, at the end of the year i had a $1000 adjustment. I have been trying now for almost a month to get Planet Solar to review this; to determine if there might be a need to add a couple more panels. Still have not received a call or an email. many months ago i referred by neighbor to Planet Solar and they used Planet Solar to install panels on their house. I was told that we would receive a referral fee. it has now been two or three months since their system was installed and turned on; i have been told repeatedly that a check was being processed. I had no idea what the amount was to be... it is not about the money... it is about the total lack of follow up - it would appear that business is so good, that they are not concerned about keeping commitments for referrals or even letting me know if additional panels are worth considering. So if all you care about is getting the best price.... Planet Solar may be a good option. Just don't hold your breath when it comes to follow up. read more

UPDATE!!!! Here we are 1.5 years later and Steve from this company reached out to me. Steve called me to set up a meeting. We sat down and talked he brought by the comparisons from our billing usage prior to the panels and after, he brought me a reimbursement check for the monies that were promised as an incentive. He even went above and beyond by fixing a leak I had in my roof, it took 3 days, the original team that did my panels was out there taking apart the panels and the roof. They laid down new paper and even bought new tiles to replace to older broken ones. They then did a flood test that would make Noah proud! My second experience with this company was much better than the first. Call and ask for Steve at Planet Solar my interaction with him was professional and comfortable too. So far so good Since February it is performing as promised. Service is 5 star. We are happy so far. Our Edison bills are a minimum charge of $9 per month so far. For the first 4 months we were actually producing more Than we were using. In the summer we draw down on the excess. We looked at Renovation and Hot Purple Energy and we are glad. Kirk Weiss is extremely knowledgable and responsive. They only promised to cover 2 cleanings so that other 1 star posting is out to lunch. We referred and continue to refer others. We hope to have a 4-5 year payback . The 30% federal solar credit also reduced my net outlay. read more

We had Planet Solar install panels on our roof last Sept. As that anniversary date approaches, we are delighted with the installation. It was fast and perfect, the efficiency of the unit is tremendous. We had very specific installation requirements-- lots of shade from palm tress and we didn't want it on the front of the house. I had to call them continually for updates on the progress and status of what was going on and what the next step was. Not once did they call or email to let me know the order of operations and what to expect or do next. Finally, after it was all said and done, they promised us all sorts of incentives and they never followed through. Update: It has been three weeks since I wrote this review. I have not received a phone call or email from planet solar. At this point I will assume that I'm not even going to receive the 'free' cleaning I was promised at the completion of the installation. Run, don't walk, from this company. My experience with Planet Solar (owner KIRK WEISS), after 15 months since installation, is that (1) he/they grossly misrepresented the electrical production of the panels they sold me so that the cost of the system will be extravagantly more than was promised (my electrical bill for the first year alone was supposed to total $950 and it was $1,900) and add in the next 19 years and this will amount to thousands of dollars difference, making this solar system a bad economic choice; (2) they used a bait and switch and promised SunPower panels but installed Upsolar, of lesser quality and production capacity, and charged me the same price as the more expensive Sun Power panels; (3) the panels I got produce 25% less KwH each year than what I was promised; (4) I was promised there would be a "solar audit" at the end of the first year and that all of their representations and cost projections were guaranteed, but weeks after I saw the first year's performance and complained they are taking no responsibility and now they refuse to contact me; and (5) I was promised several years of free cleanings, which stopped after the first year. In addition, I just learned that my business neighbor who owns a State Farm office, was similarly promised Sunpower panels and paid for them, but got the cheaper less efficient Upsolar panels. I imagine Planet Solar pockets the difference. Lest this all just seems like griping from a possibly uninformed customer, the finance company, which is top notch and apparently not part of the Planet Solar, called me about the loan this week, and the guy happened to ask "how do you like the system", and I listed my complaints. He immediately "escalated" me to a supervisor. Within 3 days they got someone out, from a totally independent inspection firm, who inspected my panels today and confirmed (a) the panels are of lesser quality and minimum production (I was promised 12,000 KwH/year but am generating 9,000 KwH/year) and not what Planet Solar told its lender I was buying (they told the lender I was getting 11,000 KwH/year so Planet Solar misrepresented what I got to not only me but its own finance company); (b) the panels are improperly installed (i.e., not only do they not tilt towards the sun, they tilt away from the sun); and (c) the micro-inverters are from an unknown manufacturer. if you are buying solar, it is essential you buy from a company that is honest and will be around for the 20 year warranty period, with panels themselves that will have a manufacturer who is around during that 20 years. Oh, and I love that the business owner claims in a reply to this review a month ago that his people came to my house six times. They came ONCE, after six months! But I guess in the world of online damage control, to imply I am unreasonable is the best they can do. PLANET SOLAR IS AWFUL! read more

Planet solar. So I'm in the doctors lounge having a couple cups of coffee before I could start my day. The day before I got a $1600 electricity bill.(my monthly level pay plan is $1050 per month and I still owe about $2000 at the end of the year). I was commiserating this with one of the surgeons who also was in the doctors lounge. He procured solar panels the year before and was thrilled. His electricity bill went down to less than $80 a month. I asked him who he used him he said it was quite an interesting story He said he interviewed 8 solar companies and without question the best one that emerged was PLANET SOLAR. He was very pleased with his decision. Knowing the headache of trying to schedule an appointment with just one vendor, I had no interest in interviewing multiple. My only choice was with planet solar, and that's the only one I needed to meet with. Knowledgeable, reliable, with great customer service- it's the best choice I made with any company that did work on my house in the antecedent 15 years. They partner up with Divident Solar which is an outstanding financial company that will provide 100% of the finances at 6.5% amortized over 20 years-in my case it was about $330 a month. Keep in mind that I get 30% of the total cost as a federal tax credit. It's just like I sent a check to Uncle Sam for $20,000. Of note, they insist that the installers use only American-made panels Additionally if you don't pay the loan off too soon, i.e., less than six years-They monitor the system for you on a daily basis and they warrantee that it works up to production for 15 years included at no additional cost. Additionally, I did not want any of the panels to show from the front of the house, which they accommodated; One can only see the panels if they used a drone or were in a helicopter. Two times I did a remodel project since they were initially installed, and planets solar was there to remove the panels, reposition the pitch of the panels as to disappear from the view for which the remodel job did. They did this at a nominal service fee. They were more reliable with respect to timing and scheduling of the project then were the contractor group that did the remodel. The last two electricity bills I received was a $58 credit (I overproduced that month)and ironically a $58 bill the next month. Every month or so, there's an article about SCE raising electricity rates, I don't need to read it. Without question one does not have to go to great lengths to do solar for their home, they should just call Planet Solar. Within planet solar, STEVE PYLE is a dream to work with. If I have any questions or concerns, I will email him perhaps at midnight, and often get a response by 5:30 in the morning. Apparently they have their own group of roofers and installers and are the most courteous and professional that have ever worked for me. With respect to Divident Solar, Great outfit, I referred a colleague Who I mentioned the rate was 6.49% and his rate was a little bit higher(apparently he did not have as good credit as I did).I called dividend solar explain the situation and they lowered his finance rate. Interestingly enough, this colleague went on to refer 4 additional friends of his who had panels installed by Planet Solar. For full disclosure, one must realize that Divident Solar does want 30% of the loan paid back by 15 months(this is the federal tax credit.) after this is paid, they re-amortize the remaining balance over the next 20 years. There was plenty of notice and so I accelerated the monthly payment to accomplish this, I didn't have any large down payment. I can understand the theory on this. If you were to get a $20,000 refund from Uncle Sam it should go to pay back the loan rather than cash to you(all financial outfits are worried about you going to Las Vegas and blowing the extra money on the pass line of craps). So to summarize, two companies to know and 2 people within those companies which can make Southern California Edison essentially disappear are the following: One is a Jared Robinson at dividend solar(always there to answer all questions in a very comprehensible manner). The other who will become the quarterback of the entire project before, during and definitely AFTER for the next decade or so is "SYEVE PYLE" of PLANET SOLAR. Dave A. read more

Stay away from these people...OMG!!! I was sold at system that, without my knowledge, was installed by some third party vendor. The process took forever and the contacts I had at PS were evasive and barely followed through with meaningful updates. Once my system was on the home it took way too long to get Edison approval. Then, things were not filed correctly and we did not receive proper credit from SCE which then lead to many more hours trying to get that issue resolved. Over two years after the install, there was NEVER one bit of effort to follow up and see how the system was doing and no explanation given about some of the equipment on the outside of my home. The owner couldn't care less about our system as we gave him a hard time after all the delays and lack of effort on their part. I normally don't post reviews on Yelp, but my experience with Planet Solar's installation of my solar electric system was SO positive compared to the two negative reviews here that I need to comment. From start to finish, I had excellent customer service from Planet Solar. Their reps were knowledgeable about every phase of my project, from design to installation; and they offered me a wide range of choices for panels as well as lease and purchase options. They handled all the paperwork for me flawlessly, including obtaining approval from my HOA and working with my local utility. I was concerned about how the panels would look on my roof, particularly any conduit that would be exposed. And Planet Solar's installers could not have been more accommodating. They ran almost all the conduit and wiring through my attic into the garage, so the installation is "clean" and aesthetically pleasing. In fact, the HOA inspectors who came out to approve the final installation said they wished that every installation could be done as nicely as mine. What a compliment! Planet Solar energized my system in early September, only one day after my utility and the City made their final inspections. And it has been operating flawlessly for over seven months -- in fact, production is even higher than I was promised. Several months ago, Planet Solar scheduled the first of two complimentary panel cleanings, just as they promised, to ensure the system is operating at max output. In sum, I could not have had a better overall experience. I am delighted I chose Planet Solar as my contractor, and I recommend them most highly. read more

If I have known that this will be the treatment I receive after I signed the contract and have the panels installed, I will run the other way and consider a trust worthy company.
