    Silver Lake from the freeway!
    Al S.

We went on a roadtrip to get out of the Heat in Placerville with some friends. This resort is about 7,100 feet up in elevation and it was cool and lovely. We hung around the little eatery by the general store and the staff were very nice. That day they were serving some Hot Dogs and they looked good but I did not have one. We went to the lake and it is beautiful with the water being clear where we were at. Kids were swimming and people were fishing. There is a road that takes you around the lake but be careful because these are where the private cabins are located and the owners who have these properties are not the warmest people in terms of welcoming you are even speaking to you. The staff was kind and polite. A few trails that you can take that get you around the lake to walk and explore or search for Bigfoot. I do believe in Bigfoot. A very nice resort that I will explore further in the future.

Mokolumne Peak on Munson Meadows trail

I was recently doing some packing into the Mokolumne Wildness out of Plasses. I came into camp early evening. Somehow, while unloading my mules and getting them situated, I must have bumped the door lock on my door, so when we had exited the rig we were locked out, and my cell phone, wallet and food were locked in the truck. I walked the distance from our camp to the office, which was closed. Not sure how to proceed, a couple of workers, Amanda and Alex pulled up in a cart with a friendly greeting asking how they could help. No sooner had I explained my problem, and they had a working cell phone in my hand, connecting me with a locksmith. We were back in my truck in a little over an hour. Plasses staff saved my bacon. Thanks so much for the courtesy

    The lake and mountains

Nestled among towering pines and breathtaking peaks, the mountain campground resort offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The campsites are spacious and well-maintained. The amenities are top-notch, from clean bathrooms and hot showers to well-stocked camp stores. But the real magic lies in the endless opportunities for adventure. From hiking trails that lead to stunning vistas to the lake where you can enjoy fishing in crystal-clear mountain water, there's something for everyone to enjoy. the staff are very friendly and look like they enjoy doing what they do. anyone seeking a true mountain getaway, this campground resort is an absolute gem.

Plasse's Resort is full of activities both on and off Silver Lake. Hiking, biking, boat, kayak rentals, camping and a great restaurant with very reasonable pricing. Some of the best views around.

Silver Lake from the store at Plasse's Resort

We had high hopes for tent camping here. The reviews we read were great... In reality everything is rundown and not maintained. The toilets (port a potties) in the campground were filled to the seats...splashing up on oneself involved... I took to walking to the store everytime I needed to use the facility. The women's toilet was out of order the whole time we were their and the men's actual toilet was just set on concrete...beware of tipping over! On the last day I discovered the nicest toilet in the shower room....however no mirror in there for after showers and the window was covered in an old plastic tablecloth to stop people from peeking in. We also noted that each site had relatively new picnic tables, but most of them were bent out if shape and wobbly. The generator at the store ran 24/7, so no quiet hour at this campground and don't expect the store to have what you forgot. It's more a gift shop. They also advertise a restaurant and bar but it was closed during our whole time camping there. Silver lake is BEAUTIFUL and the hikes are fantastic. We will skip Plasse's next time and use the newly renovated, beautiful campgrounds at the north end of the lake. However, do take the time for a sunset stroll here...nice view.

This pains me. Plasse's Resort is in a stunningly beautiful location overlooking Silver Lake at the peak of the Sierras. There's a ton of activities, cabins and a number of campsites. With all that in mind, I guess my biggest disappointment is that I wanted to like it so much more than I did. We were fortunate enough to grab their last remaining campsite after a fire in Northern CA forced us to change our camping plans. In general, the campgrounds leave a lot to be desired. The spaces were small and dusty, there were tons of horses and their crap, people shooting around camp on motorized quads at all hours and trash strewn all throughout the adjacent creek. Worst of all was the noise. I got up twice in the middle of the night to tell neighboring camps to shut up, since no one seems to obey the 10 pm noise curfew and there is zero enforcement on behalf of the resort. There was an especially loud group of three RVs with who-knows-how-many kids that made noise late into the night. They were situated right next to the groundskeepers RV but nothing was said to them. Right away we learned that this is a place ideal for RV campers, not tent campers. I'd guess that 90% of the spaces were RV occupied, which means big vehicles, generators running and generally a whole different camping aesthetic than in a tent. In other words, if you're a tent camper, I suggest looking elsewhere. The front office lady was nice in a sort of take-no-bullshit kind of way. I give my biggest props to the groundskeeper, whose name I unfortunately forgot. He was an older gentleman who was nice and showed us to our campground but also seemed like the only one monitoring the entire resort and a little overwhelmed by that. On our last full day we rented kayaks, which was by far our most enjoyable activity. The lake was clear and calm, the Sierras offered a priceless view. We shored up halfway across the lake, swam and ate lunch. Nevertheless, even this process was cumbersome. You need to go to the office to rent your gear (paddles, life jackets, etc.) then carry it half a mile down to the water, which isn't an easy thing to do when you factor in a kid and personal gear. Why not have the rental station down by the boats? Like a lot of things here, it left me questioning the management of this place.

We found Plasse's through the recommendation of several friends. It definitely did not disappoint. Check in was easy and our site was ready early. The whole camp was extremely clean. Our site was close to the water so we were able to utilize the lake during our stay. We also loved hiking around. One more important highlight- the bathrooms were extremely clean. Which is always a plus! We can't wait to visit again.

Got this gem of a note from management ther was sent directly to me

The weather was beautiful during the day it did drop down to low 50s in the night. First, the elevation was pretty high, so right away, we were noticeably winded even after the shortest walk. They should really consider lowering the campground. Then, we went to sit on the lakeshore, and what did we see?? Not a single loon, but THOUSANDS of ants. Less than 5 minutes after I laid my towel down, it was covered in ants. Turns out there were several ant hills....ON THE BEACH. This is an unacceptable flaw in design. I would suggest the camp hosts or Forest Service relocate the ant hills, so that people can actually enjoy the shore. Just as we were settling down later in the evening and trying to sleep, I heard someone making a God awful owl hooting noise, from high up in the trees. It was very obnoxious. And I know it wasn't an actual owl because birds aren't real. All in all, it's a pretty place but I'd recommend visiting a campground that values comfort and caters to your needs. It's a beautiful place, but I had a few issues on my last particular trip. First, all the host staff that I dealt with were VERY rude and accusatory. My space (102) was advertised for a 30' RV plus 1 vehicle. My RV is 24' and barely fit, which didn't allow my vehicle to be parked on the pavement easily. Immediately after unhooking, several staff rushed over and literally screamed at me telling me I needed to park on the pavement or that I'll be fined and towed. I had 2 wheels on torn up dirt, barely off the pavement. I debated them stating what their site advertised, to no avail. So, I ended up getting my truck between two large trees and an inch from my RV to make it work because the main road is a good distance from the campground. I made it work, but the way the staff treated me was disrespectful and rude to say the least. My group had several other brushes with the staff and said the same thing with their encounters. You'd think that being a host at this campground would be a vacation-like work and total utopia but apparently not. My other issue is because the lake is a over a hill a ways from the campground, they only have one small parking lot that they make you pay extra to use, even if you're staying there. We got yelled at for taking 2 minutes to unload our beach stuff. So, a loading zone would be nice. Not sure if I'll be back, there's plenty of other campground where I don't get disrespected.
