The cool thing is we were able to get a last minute reservation as we booked it two days prior. But it's very expensive for a tent site. $140. Yikes. We never pay that much but when you're looking for something on a weekend quickly this worked. This was probably one of the more expensive KOA campgrounds. And the tent sites are right near the river. So you really couldn't hear the road all you can hear was the river. Most of them are kind of small although 161 and 162 are decent size and river access. Ours was 160 but it worked for 2 people 1 car. Definitely couldn't get anymore on our site. They definitely have lots of RV spots but check for what size will fit before booking. The roads around the campground are pretty narrow. There's absolutely no fires right now. El Dorado county has put a strict ban on them since we had Caldor fire that ripped through here 2 years ago. Propane only no charcoal either. This campground was saved. Although they're fixing things up around there. The bathroom next to the office was pretty clean and free hot showers. I think they need to bring in an extra garbage can and recycle bin. It literally was overflowing Sunday morning. Also they need to bring bear bins for each campsite as this is beer country! Now that it's open, they will be back on the hunt. Apparently the lady that checked us in, said they had a couple cubs there just the other night. Also at check in, she said they're going to be bringing in airstreams next season to rent as well. Oh, the swimming pool is in construction so not available right now. This is a really good location too for hiking, biking, boating, rock climbing. If they're open in the winter which I'm not sure, they'll be snowshoeing at the state park across the way from there. It could make navigating a larger rig through it a bit of a challenge, and I was only walking through it. There is a nice but small pool area. We were in one of the spaces closer to the entrance/exit, thankfully. The staff was very pleasant and when I let them know that one of the paper towel dispensers in the women's restroom was empty, it was handled promptly. The staff tried to keep the restrooms/showers clean but these areas really do need to be completely remodeled. The showers appeared to have mold started in them. The road noise is very noticeable all day and night. The price for the campgrounds is considerably higher than most KOAs I have stayed in.

The towels smelled like a good detergent or fabric softener, had an at home smell to them. The bed was very comfortable, and clean. There was a good sized t.v in the room and a chair, coat rack and the heat worked well. There was also a mini fridge. The only thing it didn't have was a microwave. Maybe some rooms have microwaves, but mine didn't. Other that that is was a perfect room. I' stay here again for the cleanliness, hospitality and the close proximity to the town. The Cut throat Tavern is literally next door. The general store is across the street. There is also a beautiful creek right behind the lodge, I could hear it from my room.

However, the sound is muffled by the calming and pleasant sound of the West Fork Carson River that runs alongside the campground, separating it from the road. The camp host was friendly, helpful, and attentive - the vault toilet/bathroom actually smelled good! It's a fantastic spot for anglers and hikers, and right across the street is Hope Valley Bar and Grill, and I'd recommend the walk over!

I was hoping there would be a campground map but the park ranger hasn't had time to make one. The campgrounds is small and quiet. It is near the lake. They have hot FREE shower which was great and the washroom was also heated. I stayed at campsite 21, the only downside was not having two trees to hang up my hammock. Since this campground is lacking photos I took a bunch to share with future campers.

Free showers, clean running water and a camp host on site to help with any questions. I would warn you this is bear country they are down in the lower elevations because of the Long winter, dont leave any food out of your bear box or any at all in your tent. We had two bears visit our camp every nite looking for a easy meal. Bring a few pots and a wooden spoon to make noise with this seems to help drive tome off for a note. Also bear spray would also help. The lake is OK for fishing, no swimming the lake has leeches so stay out of the water. I would suggest anglers have a float tube to fish this lake with success. In the middle of the lake is the best, work close to the weed line and you should land a few nice fish. The area has few stores to stock up, there wood fords near the junction of 88 & 89, the Sierra Pines store a few miles past the 88 & 89 junction, a gas station in markleeville about 7 miles in from the 88 & 89 junction. Please remember to not leave your trash pick up what you brought in! I say check it out!

Our particular campsite didn't have any shade at all until after 5pm, which was rough In the heat. But most sites have shade and trees. There is also a bear and her two cups that are constantly at the campgrounds. The first night was soo rough because there was a symphony of people yelling at the bears, banging things, air horns, and honking car horns. The bears just don't care at all. From the moment the sun went down to 6am. We also saw them around during the day, stealing sausages off of people's table. Didn't mind as much during the day. Second night started off very loud, but the bear must have gotten some good food, because it was a much quieter night after that. Over all, this camp is absolutely stunning and has amazing views and little hikes. Just be aware that the bear situation is ever present and can potentially cause some sleepless nights. But the beauty is worth it!

This was concerning, so I was relieved to find they were actually open when I got there. Unfortunately, when I arrived home and the charge was finalized on my card, I found they overcharged me from the total I was provided in the Orbitz app. The room was ok aside from a solid spiderweb in a corner- and I did end up killing a large spider & some kind of beetle. The AC in the room I ended up with was not working, and although they had put a second fan in the room, it was just too hot. I ended up leaving a day early because it was so uncomfortable. I would not recommend or stay here again.
