I came here looking to browse samples and had a handful of questions since It was my first time at a plastic store. Two gentleman that were working there were staring impatiently at me and answering in very curt, short answers as if it were common knowledge. I felt rushed and disrespected. To top it off, I was the only one in the store and when I was leaving, I said " goodbye and have a good one"! And nothing... No thanks for coming, have a good day not even a goodbye. There is a great scrap bin for good deals with acrylic sheets sold by the pound. I don't understand the bad review. I was treated very well. The prices are good. Terrible customer service. Contacted them about a job that was emailed via there website. Called a couple of days later to see if they received the job and how long it would take to complete. The women very abruptly said that "It is on his desk, knows about it and will get to it when he can". WHAT? Kyle simply cannot follow direcions. Sent three files...a JPEG diagram that included the measurements of each piece and two EPS logo files (which any graphic professional knows are scalable because they are vector based files). They sent over a quote for their services 4 days later along with a CC auth form. The quote was incorrect in stating that we were ordering black acrylic. We responded with CC info and corrected them on the colors that we were needing. When I arrived to pick up the items they were the wrong demensions and the wrong color (BLACK). When I advised him that it was wrong ? He proceeded to argue with me and advised that he didn't pay attention to the jpeg diagram because autoCAD only recognizes vector files. He said that he thought the file was "just for the project" and autoCAD cannot open jpegs. WHY WOULD ANYONE SEND YOU SOMETHING THAT YOU WOULDNT NEED TO SEE!!!!!?!?!?!? Rather than admit he messed up he blamed the customer. Kyle stated that he wasn't going to alter some one else's art. It is a logo for a network and any designer/ graphic designer/ architect/ web designers/ contractors/ builders that deals with vectors knows they are scalable and may need to be adjusted based off of the type of equipment being used. The fact that Kyle couldn't follow directions and then blamed the customer for his own error are a clear demonstration of what you will get if you request services from this business. My husband and I dropped in today to grab a sheet of Worbla (The holy grail of thermoplastics for cosplay props and armor builds) as we live in LA. I am not sure why I overlooked searching for a supplier in our area, but sure enough they are one of the only suppliers in CA. I was greeted warmly, had a good chat, and was out in less than 5 minutes, happily carrying my roll of Worbla. So sad about all the reviews!! Y'all are too sensitive. And that's a real thing. No one needs to bow and scrape for your business- you know what you want, you go in there, you smile, you get it. That's that. I found this place because I Googled "Where to buy Worbla" and was very excited to find Plastic Depot a mile away from work. I sent a "contact us" email at 4:30PM on Tuesday and got a response at 8:15AM Wednesday morning. They simply said "hey, you should call us to discuss what you want". The guy (Kyle) was incredibly helpful, because I actually knew what I was looking for and didn't ask convoluted questions- he even offered some suggestions which was super helpful because I forgot the exact name of the other product (Wonderflex) i was looking for. He was super friendly and easy to talk to and I really looked forward to going in. I just went in for the first time this morning- again, knew exactly what I was looking for and asked specifically for what i needed. It wasn't Kyle, but a different associate, and he was gruff, but still friendly in that way you expect from people who have to put up with demanding entertainment industry people all day (remember this place is in Burbank). When you go to a cash wrap and a sign saying "Your problem is not my emergency" is the first thing you see, you should really know and understand what you're dealing with. People are in too much of a rush and are too unhappy in this world- just show a little friendliness and laugh with people and they'll enjoy the transaction as much as you. I'll never go here again. The guy at the desk was rude and condescending, just like all the other one star reviews mention. I've been working with various manufacturers in the Los Angeles area for over ten years and I've never had an experience like this. I feel like I was pretty clear with what I was looking for, I'm used to placing orders with technicians and I came in with a sample and drawings. I described what I was looking for and was met with an annoyed "What is it you want?" It was all downhill from there and ended with them not being able to do the job. When I asked if he knew of a place that could do it he said, "I only work at this place, you'll have to ask them." I saw that another dissatisfied customer recommended ABC Plastics as a better place. Don't let those One Star Weenies keep you from visiting this place! THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME! I explained what I needed to Cindy, who suggested a thickness that would probably work best. And the price seemed quite reasonable. I asked her if it could get cut to size, and she said, "Sure!". Took my measurements in the back where big ol' friendly Steve cut it to size. When he brought it out, he gave me some tips on how to accomplish what I wanted to do for my project. (The cutting-to-size was free, btw.) The owner even came out and shot the sh*t with all of us. A real Love Fest, I tell ya! And to top it all off, before I left, they even threw in some big popsicle sticks and a plastic squeegee thingie that they said would help, at no extra charge! One of the best sources for sheet acrylic, adhesives and assorted resins in the valley. The staff is also super helpful. I came in yesterday for some smallish pieces to test a laser cutter ($2/LB for "scrap", what a deal!) and Kevin not only rang me up quickly but helped me pick out the best pieces for laser cutting. read more

I'm working on restoring an old dunebuggy so I went their to check out the prices and pick their brains about West Systems Resin. I walked in to very clean shop with lots of products I was looking for. A very nice knowledgeable lady asked if I needed any help so I asked her about prices. Now...the line of resin I was looking for was going to run me about 100 bucks...and I only needed to fill in some cracks that were the size of a quarter. The sales lady went through all the pros and cons of the products and at the end of it all...I decided that the cost was too much for this particular bit of restoration. I appreciated that she was not hard selling me and was easy going enough to answer the questions I had. I'll be back for Fiberglass matt and other supplies in the future. read more

My kitchen has fluorescent lights recessed into the ceiling, with flat plastic sheets (diffusers) under them. I dropped one and it cracked! Plastic Depot seemed like the place to get them cut to order -- and it was! It took a while for someone to notice me in the showroom, but once they did, I received friendly and quick service. He found out what I needed, and offered to show me what he had in stock or have me look in a catalog of other options. Once I chose from the in-stock material, he was done cutting my order a few minutes later and I was out the door. Pricing was about what I expected -- not discount-rack cheap, but reasonable. I had been nervous coming in the door because of some of the negative reviews on here, but my experience was great, and I'd come back for any future needs. read more

I've been coming here for over two years. Kyle is friendly and helpful, and since we come often, he's willing to hold onto what we need until we get there to purchase. It's a basic industrial shop, no frills, just plastics and many different types of resin for your fabricating needs. I don't know what the one star reviews are about, but we have typically worked with Kyle and he's always nice to us. We are very experienced at our work, and know what we're getting into. Many people are new to working with resin and I would recommend taking his advice seriously if you've never used it before. This isn't like painting your bedroom or putting together a shelf unit from Ikea. They have good deals on 5 gallon buckets of resin and you can really save if you have a big job, rather than buying lots of single gallons. Catalyst is sold separately, don't forget! read more

Came to pick up some Worbla, since I needed some by next week and couldn't wait for an online order to ship to me. Prices are a little more expensive than buying online ($92/roll), but you're paying for a great deal more speed. They don't carry black worbla right now, due to production issues, but they have both the original and the clear worbla available. A classmate and I came to Plastic Depot about a month and a half ago to buy some plastic sheets for a graphic design project. One of the guys there offered to go to the adjoining workshop space to see if he had any pieces left over for us to use. When he came back, he ended up giving us more than what we asked for--and he lowered the price to about 1/5 of the original amount! After visiting and patronizing this store many times over the years, I finally woke up on my last visit. This should be renamed "Attitude Plastics," the counter woman couldn't have been less helpful. Probably someone's mother. They have hundreds of sq feet of fabrication space with many specialized tools, precision drill presses and specialized plastic bits to build custom pieces. When I asked about doing a small modification (drilling one hole) in one of their products,I was told: "If we drill the hole and crack it, you've bought it!"..no kidding, that was literally what they told me. Let me start by saying I have been to this store several times, hoping the staff would all be fired and I could get some expert advice without any attitude. There is a reasonable amount of products in the showroom and I have been able to buy some plastic products there before. But that being said, you better know what you want because these rude people never have the time for discussing alternatives. The last time I called there a woman answered the phone and was clearly not qualified to answer any questions. She sighed heavily and hesitated to call 'Kyle' to the phone who only wanted to reply by email because he was going to leave early. After some discussion about my job he basically said what I wanted was too much trouble for the amount of time he had left in the day. (It was only 10:30am when we spoke!) Anyway, it all turned out fine because I went to ART SIGNS and GRAPHICS (North Hollywood) instead and was met with a kind and knowledgeable staff. My job was complete the next morning and was far better than Plastic Depot was going to attempt. Why do people have to be so uptight, unhelpful and plain rude? There are better places to get the same products and since I am in the fabrication industry I will be sure to never use this place again. I'll steer my employees away as well. read more

What a disappointment. As a trade professional, I have many different vendors I use for my clients. Since I had a client near the area, I thought I'd give this place a try. I was greeted with a nice hello and how can we help you, but I soon discovered the rude, sarcastic remarks after our introduction a bit hard to swallow. After every questions or sentence this guy James thought he was slick with his comments almost sounding annoyed that I had even walked into the shop. I work with people all the time and usually can get along with the worst of them, but man did James make it hard for me to just pick up my folders and run out of there. Maybe he would have had a better approach if I were a female customer cause he sure turned into a puppy dog when it seemed one of their regular customers walked through the door. His prices were fair, but nothing below the usual standard. I sure hope he doesn't own this establishment. They will also do fabrication in their onsite shop, and they have always done well for the colleagues I've referred there. Worst customer service I've ever experienced, no one at that place is friendly or helpful. I had the worst experience going there, they were not helpful at all and their prices were too high. They make the customer feel like they are doing them a favor, they are so adjective. Don't go to this place instead try ABC plastics located in Chatsworth, they were awesome and their quality of work and prices were great! I was very pleased to use ABC plastics for my project. After reading the 1 star reviews I was very wary about heading in, but I did. The man at the counter was busy with a customer, but acknowledged me as soon as I entered. Off to a good start! I wandered around waiting for him to have a free moment. A gentleman from the back came out and nicely greeted me, asking what I needed. I held up my newly made pink foam shield and said I needed enough Worbla to cover it. He asked what it was for and we chatted cosplay while he pulled a sheet of Worbla out for me. The gentleman at the counter rang me up (along with my new heat gun) and informed me on how to protect my Worbla and how much heat I'd need to hit it with. I left a VERY happy customer.
