I never knew that dryer vents should be cleared once a year- I don't mean the lint filter but the duct that empties out on the roof. We had a new dryer delivered last week and my husband and the delivery person noticed inside the vent hole in the wall was wet. Called the roofer who came to check and he said no leak, call a duct cleaning place. Dumbfounded- what is that, any recommendations? He gave me two numbers to try. Their communication among employees is so good that Maria called me back just before noon informing me that Detrick was running late in Nanakuli and that he would call when he was on his way. He called and assured me he was on his way. I could hear a drilling sound and he went back and forth from our garage up his super long ladder to the roof. He said people don't know it can burn out their dryers or cause fires. Since our very first encounter with Platinum Air Duct Cleaning in July of 2022, we have found this company's service to be surprisingly unprofessional and ineffective when considering its name. But what has been even more upsetting, was learning that this company's unsafe standards--may have placed our family home at risk for fire for many weeks. Firstly, we are extremely high-risk re COVID-19 and company owner (who does not reside in Hawai'i) expected our single parent, struggling family to provide N95 masks for several of his employees (who would enter many other units in complex) during the height of the Omicron Surge. Our three year old dryer was working well previous to this routine cleaning required by our association. When this company arrived at our townhome and came in to our unit the manager's demeanor was quite stern and right away made us very uncomfortable. They took an unusually long time cleaning the dryer vent outside/under our unit and appeared to be struggling with the task. Shortly after our dryer vent was supposedly cleaned by this company--our dryer started taking longer and longer to dry clothes. We notified resident manager who relayed to us that he was struggling to get this company to come out to complete vent cleaning for other units and now to re-check our vent. After our dryer stopped working completely--we had to call GE Warranty Repair Tech who verified our dryer was heating up just fine and thus was not the problem--as he found copious amounts of lint still stuck in our vent outside our unit. Almost three months after their initial cleaning effort, this vent cleaning company was finally scheduled to come out to service our dryer vent again on Halloween afternoon between 5-6 pm--and THEY DID NOT SHOW UP. Our association crew did their best to help in the interim and we then called a 5 Star rated dryer vent cleaning company who came a couple days later and thankfully, this local owner was not only professional--but very patient and compassionate as well. He diligently identified the vent problem and literally cleaned up after Platinum Air Duct Cleaning. We are so grateful to GE Tech and the other vent cleaning company for their help as we are finally relieved to be able to run our working-again dryer, safely. We post this review for the education and safety of others (especially single Moms) who may encounter a similar experience. Our dryer stopped working and the repair company said we needed to clean the vent before they'd do any work. They advised me that not all companies do a good job so it would be best to keep an eye on the work to make sure we got what we paid for. I made a few calls and Platinum Air Duct Cleaning was very helpful and responsive- and had next day availability (important when you have 3 kids and a lot of laundry!). Detrick, the owner, was prompt and had lots of great advice for me as he worked. He did a thorough job and checked to make sure our (long and bent) vent was perfectly clean. He inspected the dryer itself and suggested a few things with the dryer itself that might be causing issues, and was overall extremely professional and knowledgable in addition to being friendly and having a good sense of humor. We have 3 cats and he was considerate to warn me the vacuum might startle them (again, 3 kids, nothing much bothers the cats at this point) and didn't seem bothered by our 2 curious hens either. His equipment was able to run the length of our 23ft vent, and he showed me what he was doing so I feel extremely confident that the work performed was excellent quality. I originally had Detrick come out to clean my dryer duct the end of December. After cleaning he checked the airflow coming from the outside vent on the roof and stated that there should be more pressure and thought there might be a tear in the duct inside the attic. Unfortunately, the access was inside the garage and he couldn't get it open and didn't want to force it because of liability issues which I totally understood. He said to call him when I could get it opened and he would come back to complete the job. Flash forward to today, almost a month and a half later, my friends husband finally got it open for me and we discovered the duct had actually fallen away and the dryer was blowing the lint into the attic. I called Detrick who was actually doing a job in Ewa and he came over as soon as that job was done. Turns out the adapter was too heavy and that was what caused the duct to separate. He replaced it with a new one at no charge and even vacuumed as much of the lint up as he could. He's very personable and professional and made sure to remind me that dryer ducts should be cleaned once a year. He's also a veteran and I always try to support my fellow brothers and sisters when they venture out to start their own businesses. Phoned Sears requesting maintenance for vent issue with dryer in an enclosed laundry room. Platinum Air Duct Cleaning was one of two companies recommended. Decided to go with a small company. Called and left a message. Called returned in a timely manner and an appointment was set up between 4 and 6 pm a few days later. The repair person kept me informed of the timeliness of his arrival due to work overload and heavy traffic conditions. Upon arrival Detrick assessed the problem and gave us options as to what could be done. He did a terrific job and made sure that the vents were cleaned and vacuumed and replaced parts that posed a safety issue. What can I say? Totally impressed by this dedication and service. Cannot recommend Platinum Air Duct Cleaning.They were hired by the apartment building to clean air ducts in all the units of my apartment building in February 2021.I was very disappointed with the Platinum employee assigned to clean my unit.He was rude, inconsiderate, unprofessional, incompetent.At my door, I advised the Platinum employee that I was at higher risk for COVID and I would appreciate if he touched the minimum amount of surfaces necessary.I received no customer service oriented response and he appeared disinterested and not listening.It seemed he was in a big hurry to get done and he ignored me.He definitely touched more surfaces than necessary because he didn't seem to care and he wasn't using his tools properly.(I'll explain this more later.)It was as if I said to him "Please touch as much of the entire bathroom as you can."Also, I tried to point out to him as he was starting the job that he wasn't giving proper attention to keeping the dust mess to a minimum and he just continued to ignore me while not changing his technique at all.I pointed out at the end of his cleaning the dust that landed on the counter.As I said this to him, I said clearly and forcefully that I will take care of the mess.He continued to ignore me and decided it was perfectly ok to slam on the sink faucet forcefully all the way on, swish his dirty rag from his pocket under the water and then sloppily and incompletely wipe the counter.I was concerned he was not wearing any gloves and he used a filthy used small rag that was likely used in other units.He was wearing a mask but I couldn't tell if it was a dust mask or a COVID mask.It did look like just a dust mask.To be fair, it was securely on his nose and mouth throughout his time in my unit.With a blower tool in one hand and a vacuum hose in the other, the employee began cleaning the vent overhead on the bathroom ceiling.The vacuum was not being held very near the blower tool so obviously the vacuum hose was not doing a very good job in sucking up the dust that the blower was blasting out and dislodging from the vent.So the dust was landing a lot on the floor, drifting and dispersing around in the air all over the bathroom.Common sense would tell you to hold the vacuum hose extremely close as possible to the blower.The mess this employee created was very unnecessary, very avoidable. The employee was short and so it was difficult for him to hold the hose up close to the blower as the dust was being dislodged from the vent.Common sense would tell you to bring a stool or small ladder with you to do a proper job so as to keep the dust mess down to a minimum.The units are designed the same with the overhead vent on the ceiling. Did this employee clean the other units like he did mine? I hope not but I suspect so because I didn't see a stool or ladder.Why didn't the employee have a stool with him? Common sense would also tell you to have some sort of large drop cloth available to collect and catch the dust.The employee only had a small dirty rag in his pocket.When the job was done and the vent was clean, naturally, the dust was in the sink, on nearly the full length of the countertop and on the floor.Common sense would tell you to use a vacuum to clean up the dust.The employee then began to use the blower to try to centralize or gather up the dust in a pile to supposedly make it easier for him to clean up the dust.You would need to see the blower in action as I did when he used it on the vent to conclude immediately that this method was ridiculous to gather up dust and wouldn't work well.Common sense would tell you, don't do it, don't even try it.I mentioned after a few squirts of air, it wasn't working and dust was flying everywhere.I asked him to stop and offered to clean myself and he could now leave and consider his work done.He kept using the blower as if he didn't hear me and of course, the area became harder for me to clean.To be fair, the duct was cleaned and overall, he did an ok job in cleaning the vent. Not a hard job and nothing I couldn't do myself. At best, a C+ in cleaning up the dust.The duct could have been cleaned better with less mess if a chemical, and hard brush was used. I could have asked him to clean some more, but I needed him out of there quickly. Can you understand why? If the tools were used properly, if he had all the equipment needed, he followed COVID procedures better, and he had a better customer service attitude, the results would've been faster,cleaner, and healthier. I'll never hire Platinum Air Duct Cleaning.Sloppy work.Weak results.Poor customer service.Other companies out there. read more
