$398 for highlights and root smudge?? Very disappointed in the amount I was charged today for highlights and root smudge and feel it was quite exorbitant for this area and what I received was not at all at any level to justify. My appointment was for full highlights and root smudge. I consider this salon nice but not high end and though the person who did my service is very sweet and did a great job the previous time I visited, they are more junior level. When I asked for the breakdown of my charges, they had a hard time providing them but said I was charged for a haircut, highlights, toner and root color. I did not get a haircut so I said oh, I didn't get a haircut so you need to take that off so they said they would refund $30 which is odd because a haircut is $60. After asked for a call from the manager who wasn't available while I was there, I found that they charged foil highlights ($265), a toner ($45) and $76 for a little root cover at the bowl. I have barely shoulder length hair. The manager wasn't clear on what was charged either so she was going to give me a call back but never did. My total bill with the refund was $365. What's worse is that I have to have it redone. The highlights were not allowed to lift enough and the toner was nothing like what i like or looks good on me. The roots are not dark enough and turned out looking like 'hot roots', nothing like the root smudge I had previously. I hate this happened. This is simply unaffordable even if it were a great color but it was nothing like what I had done before, which I what i asked for when I sat down. Also, I would have probably split up the service or possibly changed to partial highlight had I known the toner wasn't included with the highlight service. After all, you generally don't have one without the other. And, I would've decided to go elsewhere altogether if I had known they charge $76 for root coverage at the bowl with your highlight. read more

I have been going here since the day I moved to Charlotte on a whim when I drove by seeing the sign outside. From the time I made my first appointment with owner Michelle I have been absolutely amazed and in love with the staff,service and quality of craftsmanship. I have always been treated with the utmost respect and curtesy in the salon and even outside if seen in public. I have made it a point to bring my whole family here and have seen many of the other stylist and have not been disappointed yet. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone who is looking for a high quality,fun ,modern environment and wants to feel at home each time they walk in the door. It's a sure bet each time. About the same level of quality as a Sports Clips for 3-4X the price. I decided to give it one more try. I arrived on time and waited about 30 minutes before walking out. Demetri was super friendly and did an amazing job with my partial highlights. My roots were long over due, but due to my negative experiences in my town I had been putting it off. Let's start with: I love a hair place that accepts me just as I am. I wear ponytails most of the time, use cheap shampoo and conditioner and don't dry my hair on the regular. It's not uncommon for my hair to be fresh out of the shower, drying in an awkward, wet messy bun, in public. I went to Platinum for the first time a few weeks ago, as my stylist (from my other reviews!) has recently joined their staff. Samantha is wonderful, you read about her in my previous hair review. She listens to you, and will do exactly as you want - with insight and recommendations if you want them. Because I am a very low maintenance hair doer, but very frequent visitor to Pinterest, I wanted those chunky big highlights. I told Samantha what I wanted, and that I had been on Pinterest, and we talked about what would really work for me and my lifestyle. Turns out, chunky pretty highlights take lots of upkeep and work - more than 2 hair visits a year (imagine that!). So we went with lower tones and less upkeep. The girl knows me better than I know myself! Love the cut, I go in to see her about twice a year - not the recommended every six weeks. But I tell Samantha what I'm thinking, we talk about it and then I'm always happy with the result!! The shop is really pretty. The staff is nice, and it smells good in there! Never go to a hair salon that doesn't smell good. I will definitely be coming back here to talk about my hair with Samantha. She was also helpful in talking me through a few hair styles that I could do quickly, but that look more grown-up than just a hair elastic and a pony tail. Schedule an appointment! They helped clarify what I need for my hair and recommended helpful products in a non pushy way which is important to me. Hair cut went beyond expectations! If I could give it less than one star, I would. Walk in patrons are not welcome. Apparently winning an award means you can be rude, and you don't need new business. Walked in and was greeted with a look. Not a hello. Not a hi. So I explained I didn't have an appointment, but needed a touch up. No appointments today. No appointments tomorrow. No offer for consultation. Just dull offer for an appointment a week from now. I DID NOT make an appointment. I like to have my hair done by colorists that understand that waiting that long is unacceptable to those of us that are busy. Hair grows ya know? I gotta get these roots covered. So around Christmas time I entered a raffle for a free blowout and hair trim and...I won! So my appointment was set for today at 1:15 at Platinum Hair Bar in Weddington, NC. I get there and the girl that held the drawing proceeds to wash my hair and throughout the process she was telling me how "kinky" my hair was and told me I had 4c hair. Anyways, after washing my hair she trimmed it and told me that if I wanted the blowout then it would cost bcus her supervisor said since I had kinky hair it would be a charge...mind you I won a BLOWOUT & haircut. So you mean to tell me you didn't take into account black people entering the drawing? I asked her what was the price she said $65 just to blow dry my hair and to flat iron would be extra...so you mean to tell me I'm being charged almost $100 for a service that was supposed to be free??? After her telling me this she then offers to just put my hair the way it was when I came in (a natural pony tail) and proceeds to put a little curling pudding on the ends of my hair and do the raggediest pony tail I've ever seen. So I just told her I'd do it myself and got up to leave. At the end of all this I'm thinking..."if the client that won the raffle arrived without kinky hair would they have gotten the service?" I'm quite sure they would have. So if you're brown, black, mixed, or even have thick "kinky" hair...don't go to that salon! Hell don't go even if your hair is bone straight bcus clearly they're racist! read more

The girl that did my hair, Cassie (I'm not sure how to spell it) was great. She was as nice as could be and the color turned out beautiful. However, the "ok" review is because of a policy at the salon. It is not her fault, it is the salons. I didn't need a hair cut, so I just got color done today. Cassie asked me if I wanted my hair blown dry after it was washed. Of course I did, until I found out it was $25 extra. Just for a blow dry after my hair was washed and soaking wet. Every other salon I've ever been to, if they wash my hair, they dry it. Pretty standard. I came into this salon today, 9 months pregnant, to give my hair a refresh before the birth of my son. I wanted to look and feel good about myself. Instead, I left with a wet head in the winter and the first thing on my priority list was get home just to blow dry my own hair to fully check out the color. I could've been a repeat customer, as I get my hair refreshed every 2 or 3 months, and Cassie was great! However, I will not be returning due to not feeling like I received a complete salon experience due to a ridiculous nickel and dimming policy. read more

Friendly, professional and the price is right. Great service by Michelle, the owner, and also Sarah and Angela are wonderful! I did the ultimate no-no and tried to color my own hair, as I recently moved here and have a bad allergy to many hair dyes and I had the formula from my old stylist. It was a disaster!!! I went to a salon in South Park who carries my dye and after two very expensive visits, it still was a mess. Michelle was able to talk to her rep, get in my color and Angela fixed it in one hour!
