For a few reasons…read more- - ITCHY SCALP FROM PRODUCT Some folks may like an Aveda salon and their products, but, the clean 'ammonia free' products they claim to use, need to sit on your head for TWICE as long (not good!) and my scalp was ITCHY for dayssss after my appointment! The color did NOT hold or stay vibrant and faded pretty fast. HUGE PRICE INCREASES The prices here seem to fluctuate quite a bit every couple of months. When I questioned it, I was given the brush off. It went from 150 to 165 to 180 and now 200 for the SAME SERVICE within a few year period...? Im sorry, WHAT. NEW BOGUS FEE - is now added on to ALL services. As a "service fee"...beware of this! They add it on without your knowledge. FRONT DESK GIRLS UNFRIENDLY i've noticed a gradual downhill service with the people that check you in. Not friendly. Did not like when I questioned the consistent price increases. Just plain rude. HALF EMPTY SALON Another note to point out- every time I would come here the salon would have literally 5-6 people in it. With chairs set for 30 clients... more than half empty is not a good look. After striking out at a couple of places, I stumbled upon Lucid Hair Studio in Ballentyne. Walking in, I admit I had a moment of "this looks too fancy for a quick men's cut," and worried about the price. The cut was definitely on the pricier side compared to my usual spots, but the owner herself, Oxana Mak Folls, was available to take me as a walk-in. Then something unexpected happened - I got the best damn haircut of my life. Oxana is a true artist. She explained her process every step of the way, including why she uses only shears instead of clippers. Apparently clippers just follow the shape of your skull, and since most people don't have perfectly smooth, symmetrical heads, you end up with a haircut that varies with your head shape rather than looking even. A skilled stylist with shears can actually compensate for head shape and create a more natural, even look. Plus, clippers create jagged edges that make your hair look rougher and grow out harsher - though I'm still wrapping my head around all the technical details. Either way, it worked. We had the most engaging conversation too - the time flew by! And the scalp massage? Lived up to every bit of hype. The products she used smelled incredible, and the face massage was a fantastic touch. I'm usually not one to buy products at a salon, but the spray wax she used was so good I had to take some home (cost more than I usually spend on hair products, but whatever). Lucid Hair Studio, and Oxana specifically, is now officially my go-to spot whenever I'm on the East Coast. My new dilemma? Finding someone local in San Diego who can match her skills - good luck to me on that quest. I'm writing this three weeks after my haircut, and here's the thing: it still looks fantastic. Oxana told me it would last 5-6 weeks versus my normal 3-4 weeks, and she wasn't kidding. It actually looks better each week as it grows out. When you do the math, that's about 36% more value per cut - suddenly that higher price tag makes a lot more sense. If you're in the Charlotte area and looking for an incredible hair experience, seriously, just go. Trust me on this one - you won't regret it!

I had even provided photos of my daughter's hair in advance, so there was no surprise or misunderstanding. Further, the "master" stylist was very rude and accusatory when he approached me about retroactively charging us. Mind you he was the one I showed the pictures to, as well as the one who submitted the payment slips to the young women at the front desk. Changing prices after the fact is unfair and unacceptable. It also raises serious concerns about discriminatory pricing practices. Customers deserve transparency and honesty, not hidden or after-the-fact charges. I would not recommend this salon to anyone who values professionalism, fairness, and respect.

I called and spoke to the owner of JonV, Tamika, and she was super friendly and professional on the phone and was willing to squeeze me in that same day. I'm always hesitant to try someone new because there aren't many with the skill set to work with my type of hair. Tamika was wonderful and did not disappoint! She gave me exactly the style and length I wanted and was super kind and courteous. The price was reasonable, professionalism top-notch, good location. It's not uncommon for my hair to be fresh out of the shower, drying in an awkward, wet messy bun, in public. I went to Platinum for the first time a few weeks ago, as my stylist (from my other reviews!) has recently joined their staff. Samantha is wonderful, you read about her in my previous hair review. She listens to you, and will do exactly as you want - with insight and recommendations if you want them. Because I am a very low maintenance hair doer, but very frequent visitor to Pinterest, I wanted those chunky big highlights. I told Samantha what I wanted, and that I had been on Pinterest, and we talked about what would really work for me and my lifestyle. Turns out, chunky pretty highlights take lots of upkeep and work - more than 2 hair visits a year (imagine that!). So we went with lower tones and less upkeep. The girl knows me better than I know myself! Love the cut, I go in to see her about twice a year - not the recommended every six weeks. But I tell Samantha what I'm thinking, we talk about it and then I'm always happy with the result!! The shop is really pretty. The staff is nice, and it smells good in there! Never go to a hair salon that doesn't smell good. I will definitely be coming back here to talk about my hair with Samantha. She was also helpful in talking me through a few hair styles that I could do quickly, but that look more grown-up than just a hair elastic and a pony tail. Schedule an appointment! Ask for my girl!

$398 for highlights and root smudge??…read more Very disappointed in the amount I was charged today for highlights and root smudge and feel it was quite exorbitant for this area and what I received was not at all at any level to justify. My appointment was for full highlights and root smudge. I consider this salon nice but not high end and though the person who did my service is very sweet and did a great job the previous time I visited, they are more junior level. When I asked for the breakdown of my charges, they had a hard time providing them but said I was charged for a haircut, highlights, toner and root color. I did not get a haircut so I said oh, I didn't get a haircut so you need to take that off so they said they would refund $30 which is odd because a haircut is $60. After asked for a call from the manager who wasn't available while I was there, I found that they charged foil highlights ($265), a toner ($45) and $76 for a little root cover at the bowl. I have barely shoulder length hair. The manager wasn't clear on what was charged either so she was going to give me a call back but never did. My total bill with the refund was $365. What's worse is that I have to have it redone. The highlights were not allowed to lift enough and the toner was nothing like what i like or looks good on me. The roots are not dark enough and turned out looking like 'hot roots', nothing like the root smudge I had previously. I hate this happened. This is simply unaffordable even if it were a great color but it was nothing like what I had done before, which I what i asked for when I sat down. Also, I would have probably split up the service or possibly changed to partial highlight had I known the toner wasn't included with the highlight service. After all, you generally don't have one without the other. And, I would've decided to go elsewhere altogether if I had known they charge $76 for root coverage at the bowl with your highlight.
