This place is seriously the WORST place to try and sell stuff. They skipped over my bin and I was waiting nearly two hours for them to look through it. When I asked when they would get to it, the owner said that since I left the store when they took "role call" I would be last. I DID NOT LEAVE THE STORE. I WAS WAITING BY THE DOOR THE WHOLE TIME. When they took "role call" to see who was waiting in the store and I was there when the lady came over with the sign-in binder. After all that, I had to wait another 15 minutes. They only took one pair of sandals and paid me $3. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. This place is very frustrating. Go to uptown cheapskate or Buffalo exchange. read more

Overpriced compared to other second hand stores for what the item is. Wrote a review that was a little more generous to get $5 discount, but they said because I sold items with them and used that money to pay for some of the items, they couldn't give me the discount. I still owed $35, so seems unreasonable that they couldn't give the $5 discount. read more

After reading the other reviews I feel much better. I brought in a huge bag of clothes, some still with tags. The girl behind the counter took an hour to keep two items. With a smug attitude she slowly slid the bag back to me and said 'we can't use any of this'. I felt completely unfashionable, pathetic in my past shopping choices, and unworthy to think I had any taste EVER. I was embarrassed to say the least. I instantly felt old, I'm 31. In one sentence, that 16 year old mallrat who worships at the alter of Ambercrombie & Fetch-Your-Parents-Wallet reduced me to nothing more than a wart encrusted sweat pant wearing minivan warrior when IN FACT I really am a career woman with red lipstick in my vintage stilettos! It took me a few weeks to get over the ego lashing but I went back. I have scored some great deals on shoes in the past and that's really the only draw for me. I DON'T DO SKINNY JEANS. I don't do anything with the logo as the focal point either. Anyway, I remembered that these weren't the snobby girls from high school that I loathed...they are tormenting someone else at their own high school. I was there to buy and they were there to give me good service. Hopefully this is just their part time gig and not a career. Unfortunately its a common trend at Plato's Closet for poor service. About 80% of their stock is overpriced but then if everything was a good deal bargain hunting wouldn't be any fun. I see the poor service the same as having to dig through bins or no A/C...its all part of the adventure. read more

I stopped in here with a friend the other night per her request. I had heard of Plato's Closet before, but had never been in one so I thought sure let's see what this place is all about. My first thought upon walking in was that - whoa - this place is packed full to the max. There was so much stuff in the store it honestly made it hard to look at everything I found. The aisles were small and when looking at the clothes on the racks you could hardly move them back and forth. I also quickly realized that this was not my kind of store. I am a plus size woman and there were no plus sizes to had anywhere in the sore. So I was really just there helping my friend find stuff for her and put together outfits. The other thing Plato's Closet is - trendy. All their clothing is super duper trendy. This is not really my style. I did notice the smell that other reviewers have mentioned. It was the normal thrift store that hits you when you first walk in, but it is not that bad. I also noticed that this location had a nice selection of Vera Bradley. I do not have anything Vera Bradley, but I like to admire it. The prices are still expensive I think, but cheaper than you would pay brand new. Overall my conclusion here is that I probably will not be back. Even if I could fit into their clothes this would not be my type of store. read more

Masks and plexiglass everywhere makes me feel safe to shop and sell here. You do have to stay in the store while they look through your items to sell, but it just gives you time to shop. I always walk out with something when I come here. read more

I've sold / shopped at many resale stores throughout the city and I've never had such a horrible experience. The employee who checked me in was ridiculously rude. I had called ahead and was told to come in then she told me they couldn't take my buy. No big deal things change, I came back the next day and she checked my buy in with major attitude. While I waited over an hour, when I asked her how much longer she looked directly at me and didn't answer. Completely ignored me. I was so surprised I think I just stared at her back. In the end I think I only got $4 ? Not worth your time, go to Uptown Cheapskate instead! read more
