As someone who goes thrifting every weekend, Next-to-New is one of my regular stops. It's a consignment shop rather than a traditional thrift store, so the initial prices are set by the consignors, not the shop. What keeps me coming back, though, is the pricing system. Every tag shows when the item will be marked down next, so if something is a little too expensive for my bargain-hunting budget today, I can either look for older tags that have already been discounted or make a note to come back after the next markdown. It's such a smart system, and it makes shopping here a lot more fun. I also love that the store is staffed by volunteers and that the proceeds benefit local charities. It's nice knowing that my purchases are helping support good causes. For me, though, the biggest draw is the selection. They consistently have a great assortment of vintage glassware, including Early American Prescut (EAPC) and other beautiful older pieces. Since my goal when thrifting is to find things I couldn't otherwise afford, Next-to-New gives me a real chance to do exactly that. Their clothing section is another reason I keep coming back. They always seem to have quality pieces at fair prices, often from really good brands. I especially appreciate that everything is organized by size instead of just by type of clothing, so I'm only looking through items that might actually fit instead of wasting time digging through everything. If you enjoy the hunt and don't mind waiting for markdowns, this is one of the best places in Austin to shop for secondhand treasures. read more

One of the best vintage and widest variety stores. Everything is in good condition and clean. The prices are marked down and you can find almost anything there. While it's a consigned shop it's almost entirely run by volunteers and your purchases help local charities and community support. I highly recommend this store. There are new treasures daily. My recommendation is if you see something you like grab it because it likely won't be there if you wait for a markdown. Lots of fantastic deals on decor, jewelry and unique finds. read more

The absolute best place to shop thrift/antique/consignment style in Austin. For one, it raises money for good causes. For two, the prices are reasonable and go down each month. You can find some very good deals here if you find the item at the right time. The selection is really good, not a $4 yogurt glass like at a thrift store, but really good quality items. read more

The Next To New shop - Home Decor Near Me - Austin, Texas

Worth stopping by on a regular basis, right now they have a LOT of Christmas items out, and the usual eclectic mix of heirloom/useful/interesting household items. You can always find a good deal somewhere in the store. Volunteers are always friendly and helpful at checkout. Starting in January, they are limiting the number of consignors on consignment day to 40, first come first served. Will be interesting to see how this works, as we have been able to pass on some of our magpie collection stuff this last year. read more

Great selection of decor, glassware, dishes, clothes, and jewelry. I love looking thru the dishware/glasses. Prices begin pricey (not thrift prices) but price lowers as the item sits in the shelf. Prices are clearly marked. Shelves are organized and easy to browse thru. read more

I can really see their plan for this thrift store, but unfortunately none of it was exactly for me. While boasting plenty of things, the prices were a bit too steep for me. Some recycled furniture and pots/pans were just as expensive as going out and finding new ones. They had some cast iron pans that were more expensive than just going to a store that sells Lodge brand cast irons and purchasing them instead. The workers were all super friendly and nice but ultimately I ended up not buying anything because of the prices. Got them on my fyp on tiktok they have a lot of everything very cute dinnerware, some items pricing were a bit too much when I can just buy new but if you like it enough it really is worth it! And it is a consignment store too so it really isn't too bad. Only concern was one volunteer on the floor got way too close to me to hang something please say excuse me before not after you hang an item someone is standing in front of, or wait until they move. Another volunteer sales floor was just staring me down. I do get this a lot as I am your classic baggy wearing gen z. I have worked retail I know the way I dress would get me followed but I recommend asking people who look like me if I need any assistance instead, be kind to everyone :) The woman at the register was so kind! I have been going to this store for ten years or more. You used to be able to find rare things for an affordable price. They have increased their prices and price anything of value to what it would be priced at an antique store. Not thrift store prices, if you can go online and find it cheaper on eBay, it's not what I consider thrift. Beautiful store, great friendly workers, but don't plan on finding a bargain. read more

When you walk through the door, you see a lot of high-quality cool stuff, but keep in mind you're not in a thrift shop, you're in a consignment store. So forget about finding goodwill pricing here, as everything here is priced at full retail, perhaps in some cases more. With that said, what you will find here is some really high-quality very collectible merchandise. This is the place where you will find that very collectible or antique item that no thrift store will carry. This place has a tremendous abundance of glassware and some fine furnishings. Less than 20% of the floor space is given over to clothing. What is interesting is how the pricing works where the asking price usually diminishes down every 30 days or so. In other words what sells for full price once it hits the shelf today, within three months will sell for about 60% less. However, I did notice that sliding scale does vary from item to item. As a result, that's where you can find some deals. They accept consignment donations during three days of the week, so best to call first. All sales are final. read more

I appreciated that the items became more discounted over time and that the labels are transparent about when exactly that will happen. I thought that was a great system. Will def go back. Next-to-New has been reborn into a hip vintage consignment shop that you will absolutely enjoy visiting. The have vintage and some modern furniture, housewares, decor items and clothing. The new staff is fantastic. They have put the store together in a way that is inviting and the displays are crazy good. One of a kind items and the best vintage in Austin. They have a pricing system where prices go down each month (clothes are faster) so you can get some great deals. If you really want something though buy it that day. Up and down Burnet Road you will find the coolest and most unique thrift stores and Next to New is an OG store (original)! Selection is always diverse, changes daily, and items are marked down every 30 days! If you decide to wait to buy an item you like or find you are taking a risk that someone else will come in right after you and snag it at the price listed that day. It's important to keep this in mind as you attempt to bypass the treasure you find here. All volunteers and staff here are super friendly, knowledgeable, and take COVID precautions seriously here. You must wear your mask as you shop and there are plenty of ways to keep your hands clean with hand sanitizer around the store. As Travis County goes up and down with their stages of pandemic be sure to call ahead to make sure Next to New is open. You do not want to show up and miss out if they are closed. I've shopped here and also consigned items for decades. It's a large store with some of everything folks have inside their homes! Now that I'm retired I stop there 2-3 times each week. First I dash to the blouses in my size and then the art. I've bought 2 lovely large watercolor paintings from them, lots of Christmas items and many blouses. Color me a happy shopper! I always look at the furniture too, looking for a smaller dining table and the perfect wing chair, a smaller sofa... Don't miss out on this treasure on Burnet Road! read more

I think I'm done going to next to new. I'd like to supporting the consignment shop because I know the church that it is attached to. I was in there two weeks ago mask shelves were empty which I understood, but I still looked around because I knew what I needed and I have found things there in the past. Yesterday I was in there, and the prices have jumpedBut there's no supply chain issue. When I went to check out, The man at the register in Texas terms was rude. I wasn't very familiar with this store until I started consigning items earlier this year. The volunteers have always been helpful and kind during the consignment process, which is only certain days of the week and during certain hours. They occasionally take a week or 2 off from accepting consignments in order to give volunteers a break. It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with which items are accepted and which ones are not. Most of the pertinent info is available on their website or social media. The scene in the consignment room can seem chaotic, but the many volunteers keep things flowing smoothly. Questions (when I've had them) have been answered by knowledgeable staff and the management team. I can't emphasize enough how kind and patient the volunteers have been during consignment or when purchasing from the shop. This place is run almost entirely by volunteers, which is rather phenomenal to me. It's always fun to take a stroll through the large showroom after dropping off consignment items. read more

A little bit of everything in this store. A few clothing racks, dishes, China, kitchen, furniture, etc. the reason I dinged them one star was I felt some of the furniture was a little overpriced. I know that it was quality furniture, BUT...it is a resale place...so it seemed a bit high. They even had a few vintage fur coats near the front that were Beautiful. I'll definitely go back, but just like every thrift place, the quality or quantity of their merch goes back to who is donating. I left items for consignment. The process was chaotic, unorganized and not a pleasant experience. Personnel are volunteers but they just stand around. I am very disappointed in the staff and Management. I will NEVER leave anything on consignment with them again. When I asked questions about login problems they were not helpful. I like Next To New it is one of my favorite thrift/ consignment stores. The merchandise is marked down every 30 days. You wait and maybe it is still there. You decide if you want it cheaper, but you might not get it! The staff are all volunteers and if you are nice they are! But rudeness to others means you might not get the nicest response in return! People that are rude are probably treated poorly! I find that the golden rule generally is the way to treat others! Do on to others as YOU would have others do unto you!!! If you want nice than be nice!!!!! Be the one to be nice first!!! The merchandise is nice and they handle a huge volume of items! Of course this means that some items will be broken!!! It's not their fault but the people that are looking!!! This can't be helped! If you consign there you have to expect that your items might not make it to someone's house and you don't get paid! You think the Goodwill doesn't break 1/4 of the items given! So shop there as if it was your consigned items and good hunting! read more

I adore this store! They have a mixture of old, new, thrifted, and estate sale items. The prices are great for what they are. I bought way more than expected. The staff are super kind and respectful. The store is well kept and organized. I will definitely be returning! The prices do change on some items depending on how long they have been there. They get new items 3 times a week. I assume they like to get the inventory out quicker therefore price drops. There is a price drop schedule on some of their price tags. Check it out! read more

Next to New Shop is a resale store run by St. David's Episcopal Church of Austin. They have fast become one of my favorite used/vintage/consignment stores in Austin. The large storehouse of goods has no particular trait that seduces me. They have no merchandise that's particularly unique. Items are placed on shelves, but no one has spent hours on themed displays. Next to New is what it is and doesn't pretend to be anything. This is why I love the place. Want an old toaster because yours is on the fritz? Well okay, Next to New probably has one and will probably sell it to you for under $10. I get the sense that a portion of the staff are older members of the St. David's congregation. Which makes them amazing employees. They are kind and patient, they know their stock, and they believe in what they're doing....if only we all were such model employees! N2N carries your garden-variety of used merchandise...anything and everything you could possibly need to fill a home. To name a few: furniture, kitchen appliances, dishes, old radios and TVs, books, movies, jewelry, rugs and office supplies. We have been consigning things here for over 5 years and have never been disappointed. Things don't always sell in the 90 day period so they then go to the Salvation Army. We like that we get a small amount for our items, contrary to just taking them to Goodwill where we get nothing. We continue to downsize our collection and declutter. Next2New is our place of choice. read more

Sad to say this place has gone corporate. They now follow a for profit model and it's heartbreaking to know that community folks that used to count on this place for a great find no longer can. All items are priced for the highest bidder with the mantra of "we're helping get the most we can for those in need". It's not mission driven anymore - and TBH many consignment places have moved this way. Good news Assistance League down the street continues to focus on its mission and still provides the ATX community great finds a truly reasonable prices. I still check in here - and will buy from a place that is honest that they are for profit like Curated Texas instead of Next to New that states it's mission driven and charges based on corporate model that only helps the priveleged (like me btw ). read more

Oh goodness, it's like a senile grandma's group got together to sell all the old kitchy stuff you see in packrat houses. The worst part? It's SUPER expensive. It probably costs more now than it did when it was purchased a hundred years ago. The funny thing is I thought I might get a few of the figurines to rest in the garden, for my daughter, but they were over ten bucks apiece. First, my apologies to the nice church ladies that run this place for wearing my dung beetle t-shirt into their establishment. It has an illustration of a dung beetle and says "Eats Shit and Dies." I kept wondering why I was getting odd glances from the store clerks. At least the shirt is entirely factual :-) We just bought a new (old) home that needs tons of work on the style front, so naturally consignment and thrift stores are a great fit, allowing us to get quite a bit more "bang" for our buck while still picking up unique / eclectic items. I've driven past this place a million times but never actually stopped in; thrift stores are a dime a dozen in this town and the range in quality is dramatic. We stopped in on a Saturday, along with seemingly everyone else in the 78757 zip code. The nice ladies that run the joint were grilling hot dogs for the Fourth of July, offering free lunch to all shoppers. Generous! Who doesn't want a tasty weeny while sifting through heeps of other people's old junk? I say junk endearingly. This place has one of everything. From appliances to antiques to TONS of jewelry and clothing, it's probably in here if you look hard enough. Pricing is super cool. . . . this is one of those places where what you pay is based on how long its been sitting on the shelf - when an item is put out for sale, it has an initial (highest price) and also outlines a price reduction schedule that I believe triggers in 30 day increments. I bought a fabulous old furniture cabinet that certainly needs a bit of refinishing. It was priced at $67.00, but since the first price reduction date outlined on the tag had passed, it was reduced to just $30. If I could have waited just two more days, I could have scored it for just $16, assuming someone else didn't beat me to the punch. Definitely going back. Docked my review by one star for the attitude of the guy that helped me load my car. . . the nice checkout lady told me I could go down the stairs in the store and find a guy in a blue shirt who would be glad to help me load. I find him. . . sitting on a couch watching a big screen TV with a sports match on. He was completely and totally put out when I asked him to help. . . never said a word to me the entire time. Even if he is mute, which I could totally understand, he could still acknowledge my "thank you's" and respond non-verbally to my communications. I assume most everyone here is a volunteer, so why the grumpiness? Regardless, I am sure it's an isolated incident and wouldn't let it keep me from scoring a free hot dog and an incredible deal. read more

Sellers beware. A friend of mine took in an a legitimate high end brand piece to consign. It was evaluated as something lesser than what it was certified as. I liked it and since it was labeled as a fake, I went to buy it knowing I was getting a deal. When I went in to buy it, they tried selling the exact piece to me as the real brand they had claimed as fake just days earlier! They took advantage of the seller I what I can only assume is a regular practice for this shop. With so many other great consignment shops in Austin, you don't have to do business with a place like this. read more
